[Q] Cubot S308 (MT6582A) CWM / TWRP + custom rom? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Does anyone have any instructions on how to install CWM or TWRP on Cubot S308 (MT6582A)? Is there any custom ROM available in there to install on this phone that supports dual sim?
Thank you!

*bump?*

hello,
I've managed to install CWM into this phone using Mobileuncle Tools. Flash tool didnt work for me as my computer cant recognise my phone when its turned off, nomatter what drivers i installed. Keep in mind though that probably you cant install TWRP using Mobileuncle (i've read that somewhere but cant remember where ) but CWM woks fine :good:.
I have another question though, prior to installing CWM holding voldown + power booted me into the default recovery. Now to boot into CWM i use volup + power, and when i boot using voldown & power i get a different menu which is in chinese . Anyone knows what that is and if i need to change it to english?
Anyway, now waiting for a decent ROM to flash

It's the phone bios. There is no way to change it because the phone is Chinese. This is one of the reasons I'm scared to set up CWM on my Cubot because I'm afraid I'll end up stuck on that screen and not know what to do. Any suggestions?

root s308
Can you point me to how to root the s308. I've tried many root programs but only vroot works and then I've got annoying Chinese stuff all the time.

s308 root
OK, did vroot again and this time i've installed supersu & uninstalled the Chinese superuser and it still says I've got root so that'll do for now.

I personally distrust the fact that the ROM is made by CUBOT and the fact that it could contain spying apps running in the background transmitting information without my authorization. That is why I would prefer to install CM... better to leak to the USA or Russia than to the Chinese, right?

I'm not a robot

Help getting recovey back

Hello all, I need some help with my new phone
Phone is an AT&T Optimus G E970
Phone was rooted and unlocked by myself... everything was ok!
After testing some roms, i have now lost the ability to enter recovery mode. After I press up + power button it will go into fastboot, but when y press down twice it will show the android logo with the chest open and a red triangle above... the weird thing is that the phone boots up fine with the last rom I flashed (wifi not working though).
Tried root checker and it said i am rooted. try to enter recovery from rom manager and it does nothing... would appreciate any help i can get from you guys
Bump
Sorry, but i am desperate to have this phone working at its full potential...
Try flashing recovery IMG file using flashify.
It sounds like you're using an older bootloader, which does not display the options.
Vol Up + Power enters Bootloader, not recovery. When you get to the screen with the android, press Vol Down Twice and then Power. This should get you in to Recovery.

That is what i tried doing... please look at the pics i attached... I can get to the bootloader at least. I also tried to re-root but i will need to change from "Charge Only" to "MTP" and the rom that's on the phone now ([ROM][KOT49H] AOSP-GEEB 4.4.2_r1 [Dec-13]) does not have that option. What i want to do at this point is flash the recovery by any means possible so that i can install a stock JB at least. OR some other way of rooting which i think will fix the What would you recommend?
I rly appreciate you looking into this for me

[Q] Nabi 2 bricked

Hi, I've acquired a NABI 2 to try and repair off a friend but its proving difficult to say the least. I know he was doing something with the firmware but beyond that im not sure.
The current state its in is this: It doesnt power on by pressing the power button. If you enter the recovery menu (VOL +, VOL- and power) the recovery menu displays in the top left with the nabi logo in the centre of the screen. The menu cannot be navigated, either its froze or its unresponsive. If i connect it by usb when in the recovery menu the PC detects it as a MTP USB Device but it fails to install the drivers.
Really i just want this back to factory standard, is their anyway to put this back in working order? I've not a whole lot of android experience so please, treat me as a noob with step by step instructions.
Any help appreciated
Update
As is often the case new things happened after i posted, i can now access the recovery menu. This happened when i tried to instal the stock 2.0.5 from SD card

I'm short on time this Christmas Eve but the general idea is this if it's a US Nabi2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51037177&postcount=21
EXCEPT use the files from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54871957&postcount=2342
instead of the ones it says to download in the first post I link, use the files from the second post I linked(Nabi 246 files, JB bootloader). It will work but the only trick is which TWRP to start with ICS ot JB. You may have to try one and then the other. After that the procedure should get everything running again.
Ok, i managed to get TWRP working again but its unable to install anything, whenever i try it just shows as in the screenshot. Any further advice?

Try this way.
Power off your phone.
Connect your phone to your computer.
Now, on the phone press volume down + power simultaneously. It will boot to the bootloader (fastboot).
Install chinese TWRP (I think it's worked fine).
English language for TWRP:

Put in phone folder TWRP/theme.

Recovery and download mode without using a power button?

Hello,
I need to enter download mode to flash custom recovery and then the recovery to flash a custom ROM, but my S3 doesn't have a power button, as I needed to brake it because it was causing reboots.
I've tried method from the 4th post of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ow-to-boot-recovery-rom-power-button-t3006256 , but it doesn't work for me.
This is how I currently turn on my phone https://www.youtube.com/watch?annot...qLqi1aRm0Ow&src_vid=mKpOFTecfTg&v=l402ljcmPu4 , but adding home button and volume down while doing this doesn't get me to the download mode.
So, is there a way to enter the download mode and recovery mode with some software tricks (I'm not rooted)? I guess I've tried all the combinations with the phone turned off.
I need to get at least android 5.1 to use the oneplus vr app for buying 1+3, as I guess they will be out of stock before the "buying only by vr app" ends (12h) . Maybe there is a method to run that app on android 4.3?
My friends use iPhones , so I'm on my own...
I have the same problem, I rooted my s3 and enter the recovery, but now I'm stuck in it, cos without power button you can't select anything.
I guess if you menage to root your phone, you can use Rom Menager to install custom rom..
How did you root it without a power button? If you can enter download mode, you can flash touch recovery, so there will be no need to use the power button.

I root it with KingoRoot software for windows.
For rooted phones use TerminalEmulator. Type reboot download or reboot recovery. There are also apps which offer a widget for rebooting.
Use TWRP-recovery, it's fully touch-controlled.

I'm rooting S3 with Kingoroot for windows right now and it stopped at 99%, "waiting for the device" status in Kingoroot and the phone screen says "Downloading... Do not turn off target" but there's no proced bar under. 10 minutes passed with this status, so I guess it's stucked . Don't know what to do now...
edit:
20 minutes passed, so I unplugged the phone, turned it on and luckily it works. I guess I'm done with rooting, it's not worth it. I don't want to get a bootloop or something, as then I probably won't be able to revive the phone without that power button.
Sorry to hear that, I had no problems with Kingroot. Did you install all drivers for you phone on your pc?
The phone was recognised by my pc, so I didn't install any additional drivers. I think I'll try one more time with kingoroot android apk.
edit:
Doesn't work too, error at 90%. No way to root my phone I suppose.
edit 2:
Problem solved. I used adb to boot into download mode and then rooted with odin. Works fine.

Acer Iconia One 10 B3-A20 shutdown when trying to boot in bootloader mode

Hi everyone,
As I have said in the title, I want to access to the bootloader mode, in order to flash my custom boot image. However, the tablet turns off when I try it with adb/fastboot tool
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
.
I tried also to access it from the stock recovery, and I have the same result. I tried to do it with volume and power buttons by different ways, and I couldn't do more than accessing the said recovery, or a chinese recovery with blue letters. I looked at translations for this menu, and there aren't the expected option either.
If someone has any advice for me to fix this problem, it would be welcome.
Thanks
Hello,
I have this tablet too and I have exactly the same problem. I want to see a custom ROM on Oreo but there is nothing. I tried to flash a custom recovery but it was a wrong recovery... And when I tried the other volume button I have a Chinese menu.
Sorry if my English is bad, I am French.

The Chinese menu is a factory menu ( not recovery ) that comes up when you use the power+vol-up buttons together. Use the vol-down button alone to get into recovery menu.
To flash the stock ROM, you don't need to use adb/flashroot; put the zip file on an empty microSD card, and use the relevant recovery option to flash from that.
