Huge data drain by Android System app - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, so I've been facing a huge data drain on my android phone and the culprit turns out to be the Android System app
I've searched throughout the web for a fix to this annoying problem but to no avail.
I've used all kinds if firewalls from droidwall to lightningwall but the problem is persistent.
All I know is that the app still uses data even when I don't have Gapps installed!
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
I'm using Cm11 on galaxy s2 plus
(This problem occurs in all ROMs I've flashed from stock 4.2.2 to paranoid to liquid smooth to cm)
Thanks in advance

[Q] Extremely Slow Speeds on Neutrino ROM V2.2

Hello all,
I've attempted searching to no avail. Has anyone else had extremely poor data speeds using the latest version of Neutrino ROM V2.2? I'm getting unusable speeds (100kb down for example.) The radio I'm using is 30P. Reflashing unfortunately did not resolve anything. Back to Alien 4, again :\
Thanks!
Do u have problems with wifi? i believe i may have a similar problem. However, my problem was that, apps like facebook and youtube takes forever to load on 3G/HSPA. browser has no such problems.
If i used wifi, the apps work perfectly. So it may be permission settings/data settings or even a bad flash. I googled for a solution but to no avail.

[Q] How to debug a MTK6573

Hello,
I'm experiencing a battery drain in a Dapeng A7. Sometimes the battery charge decreases even though it's plugged to the charger.
I can see that when it happens the wifi don't switch off, even though I have set it in the settings, and it fact some times it does.
I have get some logcat but the only thing I noticed was just several ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED, but without timestamp.
I would need some extra information, combining top, with logcat, and some more command you will suggest for sure.
I have rooted the phone, so any command will be available.
Any suggestion? Meanwhile I'm testing some battery savers.
Thank you
Some more information would be useful are you using a custom recovery like Clockworkmod or stock recovery are you using the stock ROM or something like Cyanogenmod it could be hardware causing the issue like dying/dead charger or dying/dead battery or it could be software with Clockworkmod you can clear battery stats have you tried turning off everything from Wi-Fi (Already mentioned), 3G Mobile Data, Bluetooth, Network Location, GPS etc to see if it had any affect on the battery maybe you could try searching an App to do these things if Android is bugged as a temporary solution.

Thank you for the answer.
I have just rooted the device with its stock ROM, but I havent found any reference about installing Cyanogenmod or Clockworkmod.
Anyway, I have experienced this leakage after a factory reset, disabling wifi and 3G, ... I have tried to locate which app can be battery consuming, but without success. Well, one of them, I don't remember, always says that it was Google Calendar sync. Can be gapps?
Moreover, now I have been reading a French forum and I'm not alone

However no one has a clear answer. Perhaps is the charger problem, but I have tested with diferent cables and chargers.
And the worst thing that sometime charging works fine.
Do you happen to know if there is any command like logcat but with a timestamp in each line?
Thank you

[Q] Weird 3G issue since jellybean

Hi Guys,
I've been an active "reader" of the forum, but never really wrote anything until now.
I've noticed that ever since I flashed my rom to Jellybean (specifically super nexus 1 build 5 and super nexus 2 build 2), my 3G connection seems to disconnect rather frequently. For example, when i open my facebook app, it says "cannot connect to server" and I have to refresh it for it to work. This problem disappears when I connect to wifi. This is weird because every time I flash a rom I do a full data/factory reset and wipe cache and no one with my rom appears to be having this issue. I never had this issue when I was using gingerbread.
I am using the default CM kernel that comes with it
Can you guys tell me what might be an issue and how I can solve it? I know its a small issue, but it just annoys me sometimes.
Flash different modem.

[Q] GPS and calibration issue

Hi guys, I wonder if anyone could help me with this problem.
The phone I'm using right now is Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-I9100G). Android 4.2.2. Using Avatar ROM 2.14b.
Ever since I rooted and did a custom ROM to my phone, the GPS seems not working well. For example, when I use Sygic Navigator, under Hardware settings where you can see the GPS satellites, it doesn't show any. And there is no GPS signal at all. Weird. Is it because the issues of the ROM I'm using? Because I've changed from using ParanoidAndroid 2 to Avatar ROM just because I wanna see if there is any fix on the GPS issue. Sadly, no.
One more problem I had is the calibration issue. I started noticing this problem when I'm playing Doodle Jump. When I started the game, it doesn't jumping straight up, instead it jumped to the left, always to the left. I don't know if both problems are related to each other.
So, anyone got any idea how to fix these problems?
EDIT: The term I should be using for the 'calibration' is the gyroscope. It seems like Avatar ROM has removed this option the settings.
EDIT 2: GPS Status app always showing Looking for GPS location... even after I reset and redownload the A-GPS Xtra Data.
Theres a gps fix on rootbox thread somewhere. Im sure it can be used on all 4.2.2 roms. Have a look there mate.
Also gps fix on playsore may solve it. Have a look test them and report bk to what works to help others.

Okay I *finally* got it worked. I just have to reset the factory settings.
So, for those who have the same problem, I'd suggest you to sync all the data, backup your apps and do some recheck on your files if something have missed out. Then only you can do the factory reset, this will rest everything in your phone including your installed apps. It will reverted back to the default settings.
You can also do the factory reset in the recovery mode.
After reset, you can download GPS Status app to test your GPS locking.
I can now

Issue with downloading data on background by Android system

Hello,
I have HTC One M7 with Android Revolution HD One 36.1 and recovery TWRP 2.6.3.4 .
I was running it like this without any issues for more than one year. Only recently (few weeks back) phone started to download huge amounts of data. It downloaded few GBs during weekend. All these downloads are displayed as Android System in background.
I have tried to block it with firewall but to no avail. I have tried to perform factory reset, I have tried to reflash ROM from TWRP. But in all cases issue immediately started again. In the end I was able to reduce consumption by restriction on all downloads in background through settings. This way it does not download data on cellular networks, but it still drains all Wi-Fis I connect to. It also means that I cannot use most functionalities I was used to like autosynchronization of gmail, apps like viber does not work and many other small obstructions.
Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of this?
thank you
