[Q] MD5 from CWM files? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, thanks in advance for (hopefully) helping me!
I have a halfly bricked phone, and I can still get into recovery mode. I have a ClockWork Mod backup, made when the phone still worked.
CWM Recovery keeps having errors while restoring 'data'. So I want to make an MD5 file to flash the backup (only the data files, which are three files, if that's possible) using Odin.
Is this possible? And if yes, how?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Young GT-S6310N
I tried flashing the stock firmware (using Odin), but the trouble seems to be in the data files, since there weren't any in the stock firmware md5 file.
Thanks!

Bring the backups to pc.
Search google for md5 calculator.
Calculate the md5 value for the data files and replace the generated value in md5 file.
But a strict word of caution. Since there has been md5 mismatch, chances are that the data backup has got corrupt.
Using the above method will save you from restoration errors but you may have a corrupt phone in the end.
Extent of corruption may vary.

[Q] problems with my xrecovery

i use xrecovery 0.3-releasde to backup my current system and data, and when i'm going to restore,it says the MD5 mismatch
who can tell me why?
You may have changed something with your build after you backed up your current system. Try removing anything you recently changed before you backed up your system.
thx for answer~
i just got why it happened
the xre itself calculated the md5 incorrectly
i calculate the md5 of the three .img myself and change the md5 in the nandriod.md5
then i can use the restore~

[Q] [PROBL]Cwm-recovery v5.0.2.7-nandroid backup and md5 checksum error

When trying to restore backup from CWM-recovery I get MD5 checksum error in 2 of 3 restores. The backups doesn't report any errors but restores stops because of MD5 error.
Every time I do a backup I have to check by restoring to verify that the backup is ok. Otherwise I can't trust the backup to be restorable.
This happens with backups/restores from either sdcard or ext_sd, no difference.
Anyone else experiencing this, and are there any solutions to solve it, or at least check the state of the backup without needing to restore it to check if it's restorable?

Click to collapse
In adb shell or in a terminal emulator, navigate to your backup folder
Code:
cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/name-of-your-backup/
md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
This code resolves md5 checksum errors. Now try to restore.
In case this fails, use advanced restore to restore each .img one by one

[Q] ClockworkMod Not Restoring Backups

I'm on stock 2.1 with 2.1.1.A.0.6. and my phone's rooted. And I have never been able to use CWM to restore any backups.
Everytime I try, I'm told there's a MD5 sum mismatch. Even if I've made the backup a few seconds before and I'm still in CWM. I've gone into the backups and changed the checksums in nandroid.md5 with the correct ones (or at least I assume they're the correct ones, I use ES File Explorer to generate them). CWM then restores it..but I get thrown into a boot loop when I start the phone.
I do a lot of fiddling to get my phone just the way I want it and every time anything goes wrong (like a ROM not installing properly), I have to reflash the whole thing, re-root it, re-install my app's, re-remove the bloatware, re-set my settings, re-do my widgets, blah-blah-blah..
Anybody any idea what's going on? I'm using ClockworkMod v3.2.0.0-r5.
when you create a backup using clockworkmod NEVER rename the folder its saved all your backup, if you do then that will cause the MD5 to be invalid,
if thats not the issue then try downloading ROM manager from android market and use this app to backup and restore your .img files
Well, I don't rename the folder, I don't rename anything. I think I'm not wiping the right things first. At least, I hope it's something that simple. I'd hate to be the one poor soul on here whose phone doesn't like doing backups..
ROM Manager sounds like the sort of thing I need though, even if I do get CWM working properly.
Many thanks!

[Q] EFS issue- tried info on xda, ?bricked

Hi everyone.
I have spent last 3 days searching, reading and trying possible solutions.
I lost my imei after 4.3 samsung to 4.12 downgrade. I had EFS backup on galaxy s3 toolkit called .tar.gz and .img.gz formats, i also have efs.zip and efs image backup around 20mb on my external sd card.
due to the problems, i followed advice and used hk-tools app to restore my efs, i chose to format and restore option for a clean restore and as soon as i formatted, phone hung and was unable to boot into rom.
i used odin to flash ram and recovery again, forst stock then others, but cant boot into any rom, as efs doesnot mount.
i can enter recovery and download mode, i have tried using phils recovery's custom restore of efs but it says md5 mismatch, probably as the backup was taken on s3 toolkit and other ways.
I am really stuck, any help will be greatly appreciated. I have genyuinely exhausted the knowledge i could search and try.
thanks.
says md5 mismatch
In settings turn off md5 checking

many thanks, tried your advice, says no efs partition!
so did not work.
Extract the efs files manually on your PC, copy them to your SD card and then in Philz copy all the files the efs folder. Fix permissions then reboot.
You need to understand what you did to break it before you go any further, general forum, sticky threads, efs 'know this stuff'.
Mod Edit
Please refer to the stickies in General before posting.

Nandroid backup problem

Today I decided to upgrade the cyanogenmod software of my girlfriend's phone. I did a android backup before doing it and I have it both on my SD card and on the phone. The upgrade went wrong (dont'know why i was having many crashes of some apps) so i decided to restore the android backup. I have tarp recovery and i'm having two problems. The first one is when I select MD5 check: it's written MD5 failed to match on... maybe because I followed the guide about creating an MD5 blank file ( I was having problems in matching MD5). When I uncheck the MD5 check box, the backup starts and it seems it works, but when I press reboot the system it says NO OS INSTALLED. I need some help please I've tried for two hours fixing it.
What partitions did you backup and try to restore? Sounds like /system or /boot didn't backup or restore properly. You could try to reinstall the original rom she was on and then do just a /data restore and see if that works. Other than that, either another rom or back to stock are the main options. What was going wrong on the new rom? Did you try to upgrade by dirty flashing - as in not wiping /data? Sometimes it also helps to format /system too when upgrading the rom to make sure there's nothing leftover. Also, getting the correct Gapps are important for everything to run correctly.
PS: I've been having some issues with backups in TWRP on my phone as well and wasn't able to restore /data and if I just choose to restore just boot and /system then it would at least boot backup and be usable. I'm not sure if this is a similar issue to yours or just phone specific.
