Thanks to @jeboo for the original exploit, this is his exploit but using a different method of writing over memory.
If you don't know the purpose of this then don't download.
Totally dont know the purpose and not too worried, but thanx Surge for not forgetting about us over here.
Nice work, very useful.
Nice job! Will the safestrap your working on with kexec be posted here?

Would this allow us to install safestrap? or a real recovery install? or something completely different?

It will allow us to flash insecure modules using safestrap .. I am not a dev but trying to answer what I understand from kexec insecure modules will be compiled with the stock kernel and then flashed so we can flash aosp roms . Correct me I know I am wrong somewhere .. lol
So I've gotten quite a few messages about this asking what it does and what it's for etc. This does the same thing bypasslkm does (this is a reimplementation of bypasslkm for NC5 and NC1). You guys can read the bypasslkm thread over in AT&T S4 dev thread by jeboo to learn more.
If you have trouble getting wifi to work on a custom rom though this will allow the wifi module to load. I wanted to avoid having to say that so every Tom, **** and Harry doesn't rush in here to ask why wifi won't work on so and so's rom and why this didnt fix it.
Will this allow AOSP or unlock your bootloader? No, it will not.
Will it allow you to load modules that are compatible? Yes it will. Granted you know how to load modules (if not, Google insmod)

No, but it also doesn't mean you can't. I haven't tried to boot a 4.4.4 rom so I have no idea if they fail due to module incompatibility.
I successfully loaded the fast charge module on stock NC5 just to play around. I recognize some of the modules you have in that zip you put together like scsi_wait_scan.ko, but I was just curious what some/most of the others do. For instance I googled like crazy to find out what fuvzw.ko was and found nothing. This seriously is some awesome work! Seems like a huge step to being open once again!

A lot of them don't do anything theyre just tests. Lol fuvzw, just creates a temp directory in /dev/fuvzw. State.ko just adds a funny message if you type cat /proc/state in terminal. sysctbl.ko finds the system call table etc. I just put them in to show making custom modules do load.

Thats is an AOSP rom, It will not work unless it is modified to work with safestrap or kexec is implemented to safestrap. What phone are you using?

Honestly I just realized that information about the AOSP ROM im running the Eclipse S4 TW - v4.0.2 (6/25/14) - Real AOSP styling!! KitKat has arrived! This has been my favorite rom so far as I just got the s4 I545 and had the s3 that was rooted unlocked. I may try a touchwiz rom 4.4.4 any suggested rom ?
Just curious (and if this is a dumb question sorry in advance)... but how far off does this make us from having KEXEC on the S4 running say NC5?

Yeah I've been following that thread. I just was unsure of how close/far aware things are with these insecure modules so I felt it was better to ask. Hopefully the kexec work on the S4/S5 can also be helpful on the Note 3. I know @hsbadr has been making some progress on things with the VZW Note 3 so we'll see.

Hi,
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy s4 with build number JSS15J.I545VRUEMK2, and I recently rooted it so I could run the Google Play Edition Rom. From various threads and guides I knew that I needed to use SafeStrap because you can't use CWM recovery on an MK2 device. After a couple of attempts installing the GPE Rom, I found out that the GPE roms i could find only work with SafeStrap and an ME7 device. Furthermore, I found out that the only ROM that works with and MK2 device is Hyperdrive 11. I was wondering if there is any way around this or, alternatively, if there are any plans to fix this.
Thanks in advance.

First of all. .the only way around is to hope our devs who pretty much do the work on their spare time...look at what can be done...Second their nothing broken that needs a fix.
If you want ability to load different roms buy the dev phone.

You need a custom recovery to load any ROM. Problem with the build you are running is you cannot install a custom recovery because the bootloader is locked down tighter than Fort Knox. Devs are working on a solution and hopefully they will succeed. Don't hold your breath though as it may take a long while.
Until then, you can root, uninstall and de-crapify the bloatware and crapware from the phone. Change the launcher to GEL and get something closer to a GPE phone. Done all this to my S4 and it runs much more smoothly and gives me excellent battery service.
Those on MK2 With safe strap and want to get rid of Touch Wiz ( which I do -.-) Get the Illusion ROM for your Galaxy S4 (Verizon). That's all. Except the only bug/s is WiFi doesn't even if you try flashing the MK2 Module's. And those On AT&T, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, NET10... Etc using there Verizon Galaxy S4 will not get Data to work. I have Straight talk and tried everything to get Data to work. I've flashed all Carrier Roms (the AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular) together and see if that would help. Nope. But Messaging (just SMS) works and so does calls and Voice Mail (xD)
And if someone could extract this and try making another AOSP ROM that works with MK2 (or SafeStrap) and make CM11/10 to work, that would be excellent!
Credit for the ROM goes to the Developer. I am not endorsed with the development/developer nor do I hold responsible for your phone being a toaster

If you guys are on 4.2.2, it would make since if it was a gpe rom, as gpe was somehow compatible with 4.2.2 safestrap. If I remember correctly, someone said that the differences between the kernels was negligible and could boot with the tw kernel.
I would say its safe to assume that its actual AOSP seeing that it uses the CM kernel source (or at links to it on the OP), however, there are no accounts in the thread of the rom cook saying that it is AOSP, only other posters.
Haven't tried to download it yet, but I'm going to convince myself that you guys are just pulling a sick April fools prank.

Well so far it's AOSP ROM. It has pure android, the weight of the zip is so light and if. And yes, A Dev did say it wasn't compatible with any AOSP ROM's. But I found a ROM that works! I'll post some screen shots of the AOSP ROM. And if it says AT&T its because I have a Straight Talk Sim Card in it.
So far people are eager with this. If we can get more people's attention we can probably get Hashcode to see what's making this ROM work on AOSP

I'm on MDK and I've never tried a non-touchwiz ROM. I want to now. I'd appreciate if you guys could tell me what the most popular / mainstream / well developed AOSP ROM is for the Verizon s4. I think I'd like to start my AOSP journey there.
Also, are the current crop of AOSP ROM fully functional? Or are there still some features of the S4 that aren't supported?

Think I answered you in another thread about this topic but.. Try Mahdi, C ROM , Liquid Smooth, AICP ... They've all treated me well. They'll all run differently though for people so you'll just have to flash away and report back in their threads. Also I highly recommend using KToonsez AOSP-Kit Kat kernel with those. It's been nothing but stable for me.
Good luck!

Hey no problem!
MDK is the build that the Verizon S4 first shipped with and it allowed for a bootloader exploit called Loki which let's us run custom recoveries... Thus allowing AOSP ROMs like the ones I mentioned.

I'm helping my friend install CyanogenMod 12 on his S4 (jfltevzw). We've rooted it and we're currently doing a full backup through Safestrap in case anything happens. Once that's finished, I'm unsure as to what we should do. CyanogenMod's wiki has installation instructions for the Verizon S4, but it says in big bold letters to not attempt this if on a ROM newer than I545VRUAMDK. He's on the latest version that Samsung/Verizon have pushed out, which is I545VRUFNK1. Is there an alternate way to install CyanogenMod on top of the newer stock ROM, or is it not possible?

Dang, so there's absolutely nothing whatsoever that can be done? The page says you can't downgrade, but is anything at all possible now that he's beyond the MDK build? He really wants to make the switch and is fine with doing a complete wipe or whatever is necessary.
EDIT: I've been trying to read up on the VZW S4 and why this isn't possible, but I don't quite get it. Reading other threads it seems like the reason is because the bootloader is locked, but that can't be the case if he was able to install Safestrap. I'm coming from a Nexus 5 where everything is incredibly simple, so I apologize for my ignorance. (I don't mean to say you're wrong or anything as I have no idea myself, I just don't understand why it doesn't work on newer ROMs.)

you can install hyperdrive rom
its not lolipop but its worlds better then stock ...
also there is a chance of getting the 5.01 GPE edition rom running when Samsung releases the lolipop update for the vz s4
that would at least give us a working lolipop kernel to use with the gpe rombase
and hey you never know there could be a exploite in the lolipop rom/kernel that lets us get kexec working
Basically safestrap loads after the kernel but early enough to replace point to a different root for the system. So we can load what ever system we want... But are stuck with the kernel the phone booted. If the system is based on the stock kernel this is fine... But when it starts making calls to custom kernel stuff you will have trouble.
So Cyanogenmod only provides the GUI? I've installed CM on two B&N tablets and I've been asked to root a new Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4. I've assumed that, because it's new, it will have I545VRUFNK1 4.4.2. I rooted my VSG s3 years ago to 4.3 and there was no going back on that one. It looks like it's the same with VSG s4. So, if CM provides only the GUI, then a rooted VSG s4 can still access Google Apps? What is the concern with with TW based ROMs? Is it the recovery/backup feature or only being stuck with the VSG s4 GUI?

Couldn't you ODIN back to an older baseband version and then try to flash CM12?

Nope, in order to get CM, you'll need to be on MDK. Samsung prevents downgrading.
btw. the baseband version doesn't matter much. Its the bootloader version that is the toughie.
Boo! I just picked up my S4 yesterday after a 5 month run of using Windows Phone so I'm trying to figure this phone out. I'm on NK1 and trying to figure out how to root now.
vaindil where did you find a VRUFNK1 compatible version of Safestrip?
I'm on the stock S4 5.0.1 kernel, rooted. Are there any alternate kernels that are Odin compatible and won't mess up the phone?
non-MDK bootloader: NO.
MDK bootloader : yes
Depends on what your looking for. If you are on OF1 there are several that are quite effective at bricking your phone. Probably not the desired outcome though
However, rumor has it that these unsigned Kernel Modules have been successfully flashed on devices with the OF1 bootloader. I am in the process of installing them myself.

Be sure to thank the Dev....donate if feasible.

It went perfect. Flashfire install. I just used the latest version from play store. Kernel Adiutor works well with it (even though the new look takes some getting used to). I'm running Stang5litre v3 with the OF1 bootloader so I used OF1. Check out ATGKompressors battery saving guide after you get it installed. I noticed improvements right away.

Good news, everyone. I got a used motherboard that is carrier unlocked and was on 4.4.2, so I can flash whatever I want now. Still looking for ROMS though. I'm on Dirty Unicorns 4.4.4 right now, but am looking for a kernel. The CPU freq settings don't stick for CPU1, 2, and 3, only for CPU0. Tried AlucardKernel, it sucked and didn't work properly. Are there any kernels that allow overclock?
