Hi, A while ago I tried setting up MTP/PTP connection via USB from to transfer files from my S3 i9300 to PC, but without any success.
I've been using Airdroid since then but it's painfully slow for large numbers of photos , and wondered if anyone has been successful with this? I'm using Gentoo Linux on my laptop and all PC's I have, with kernels ranging from 3.4 (for VMWare compatibilty) to 3.12. I tried using Heimdall to root the phone but gave up and used the standard Windows programs under VMWare in the end.
Any pointers / help appreciated

Has anyone had any luck in getting a StarTrk recognized via USB connection under any recent Linux distributions? I've tried fiddling with various sync packages on Ubuntu 6.10 without success. I don't really need to sync with any desktop applications; I'd be happy if I could access the StarTrk's filesystem from the Linux box, for copying files to/from the phone. Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcome and much appreciated!
Folks,
I think this is a driver issue, but I'm not sure how to solve it. I can get the phone to recognise USB mode in Developer access, but I can't seem to get it to work by using the USB Mode in the network options.
The problem only seem to happen on my Windows 7 64bit machine (and another one I tried). I tried it on a Win95 machine at work and it had no problems recognising it either way.
It doesn't seem to matter if I install keis or not on the machines; the Win95 one worked right off the bat with no installation.
I know this is only a minor issue, but it is a niggling one. Has anyone else encountered the same issue?
I used it on a modded 64-bit W7 and it worked when transferring music, but it transfered at < 100kbps and it wouldn't let me transfer videos or sync with Kies Air.
Anyone else who is having issues? I'd like to know how to solve it. Not necessarily that other people have theirs working.
Nope no problems with win7 x64. Transfer files at ~12mb/s
Edit: cant remember which device i formated mem card on but either the computer or phone formatted card made transferring stuff realllly slow. Try formating with both.

i can connect and transfer files on my Win 7 32 bit and galaxy s 2. i don't know how's 64 bit. you can use latest Kies. but i have anohter issue about connecting. when they connected by USB, it show me "click home button to close Kies". i do it, but i can't connect them again. i don't find the Kies on my phone. i don't know which is useful Kies or USB?
I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit and I have no issues :s. Try a different USB port? Try going into device manager and searching for new hardware?
Had same problem, went into the bios and enable legacy usb, samsung galaxy s2 connects and work tried on 3 computer 2 with windows 7 64 bit one with ubuntu linux all work now.
Hello all, has anyone tried to figure out how to copy files to and from the tablet on OSX Lion using USB cable?
I tried to figure out a way but nothing worked (and OSX not having USB networking didn't helped) beside using ADB to push files to the tablet (but VERY SLOW).
Lates Kies releases aren't working or even installing on Lion.
Suggestions highly apreciated.
Thx,
William
Try "File Expert" from Market and get a FTP client for Mac
Done that already, but transferring big files (e.g. HD movies) or a huge amount of files (e.g. music collections) takes too long (wasn't able to get more than 2.5~3MBps transfer rate).
Samsung has released an update for the Kies software for Mac to connect with Galaxy Tab 10.1. I'm a new user here, so I'm not allowed to give you a link (and have the 5 mins timeout). Just google for it.
I'm having the following two problems transferring music and photos, and was wondering if they are known issues with or without workarounds.
1. When I plug the phone into the PC and try to get at photos, I can't see any thumbnails--just generic JPEG icons.
2. Transferring mp3s and photos often just plain fails. I've tried rebooting phone and PC, unplugging and replugging...but it happens seemingly for no reason. As in, I'll successfully transfer one photo or mp3 to the phone fine, and try another one immediately after without changing anything and it'll hang for minutes before declaring itself a failure.
Any help?
MTP
What OS are you running on your PC? If it is Windows XP, then try to install Windows Media Player 11 and run windows update as well.
Galaxy S III does not support USB Mass Storage like older Android phones but rather uses MTP/PTP as the file transfer modes which are only supported out of the box in Windows Vista or later. For Mac OS X, you'd also need to download MTP client.

I'm running Windows 7.
The problem is not that the PC can't handle MTP mode at all. The problem is that it is inconsistent. One album of mp3s will transfer just fine and 30 seconds later a single mp3 won't move at all. And the fact that I can't see image thumbnails (only generic image-file icons) is a real headache.
Obviously one day I'll be rooting and installing CM or something else, but I'd like to be as fully functional as possible until then.
Is anyone else having similar problems?
Copy and paste never a problem for me .
