my friend tom got his galaxy s like two months ago. he has a even more plus plan with unlimited everything on tmobile and he used that in a iphone 3g for a year with no problems and he could roam with no issues on att.
with his new vibrant its not working! it takes forever to try to connect then gives a error. the sim should be good since it roams in two other unlocked phones..
for the note, his phone IS unlocked... that was the first thing we thought of..
the error is: unable to select network.. your sim card is not allowed to connect to this network
this phone is a quadband phone so it should work.. we have put a att legit iphone sim in it and it works great.. what gives? why can't he roam on this new phone when other phones do? running bionix rom.. have tried updates, wondering if anyone has any opinions or info
we've already tried changing network settings with *#0011#, gone into service mode *#*#197328640#*#* with no luck
edit: we've tried not allowing the phone to connect to our local att 3G band (1900) and use all other bands again with no luck. the phone connects to canada's rogers network tho.. weird..
anyone check this out yet?? anyone got it workin? any reports would be killer ...
we have tried more settings through service mode still with no luck. when we specify certain bands and leaving the att 3G local band unchecked, it will not hop on T-mobile with the setting! Crazy! not sure if it's the rom, radio version or kernel but we will keep tweaking and posting results.. if anyone is having this issue or has concerns any posts or signs of life would be cool lol
Same issue
Unfortunately, I don't have a solution, but I've been working on this same issue since september. I originally contacted tmo about the problem to see if they somehow hadn't provisioned my phone/account for roaming. Needless to say they were not much help. They suggested I exchange the phone for a new one, which I did, and I still have the same problem.
I'm in a rural area of california where tmo has roaming on att towers. My girl has tmo service with a different samsung phone and she can roam on att just fine. She can send/receive calls and text. I even put my sim in her phone, and it works, so I've pretty much narrowed the problem down to an issue with the vibrant itself.
My phone is not unlocked, so we've ruled that out. I'm running bionix fusion with ji2 modem now, but I've had the issue with the stock phone before ji6, and after ji6 ota. I've tried messing around with the service menu the same as you, and I haven't got anywhere either.
I have been able to get the phone to at least lock on to att by adding the apn internet2.voicestream.com, and it will get past the "not registered on network" message. Unfortunately, it won't complete a call or send a message, it just times out after about 15 seconds and drops back to the previous menu (depending on whether I tried to dial out of contacts, the call log, or the dialer). But it does not give me an error message, it behaves as if the call connected and immediately hung up.
I had given up on it for the past couple weeks, but I have time now to try and work it again. Let me know if you've gotten anywhere, and I'll do the same.
The fix is: when you're in an att roam area, set your phone to gsm 850 only via the service menu. If your phone doesn't auto lock on the att network, search for available networks and choose att. After that you should be able to send and receive calls and texts.
after yet some more messing around, still no luck. it's clearly a thing with tmobile not allowing roaming..... because i read many threads off the gooooogle that say tmobile is pretty much going away and any "contractless" plans don't have roaming so they don't lose money....
dickheads. at least he's grandfathered in with a good unlimited everything plan tho..
even if all this said, if anyone finds any info out post!
the other day i was out of tmobiles network coverage and on att voice and edge not 3g. i live in texas
this is with a stock vibrant jI6
tried the app RoamControl with no luck. it uses different tmobile bands when in "roam only" mode. anyone have any luck yet?
I have a work phone that is really old and slow, which is why I wanted to upgrade to the Note. But after swapping my sim card into the Note, I can make/receive phone calls fine, but my data doesn't work at all. In my status info, I see this:
Network: AT&T
Mobile network type: HSPA:11
Service state: In service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
I called AT&T, and they said that my company's data plan is only 3G, and it won't work with "4G" phones. In order for it to work, I would have to change to a 4G plan (which I probably won't be able to do since it's not my account).
Does anyone know of any work arounds? Maybe possibly masking my phone as a 3G phone? So far, I've tried the following and they've all failed: used Saurom to force network to "GSM only" mode, enabled data roaming, changed modem firmware (older & tmobile).
You might need to get a new sim card depending on how old it is
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I got it working! I installed the latest King Kang ROM and now my data is working! (no LTE tho, but that's fine with me)
My 3g SIM wouldn't work when I upgraded from the Dell Streak to Note. A Best Buy rep configured a 4g Sim and upgraded my original AT&T unlimited to 4g as well... No cost and no change in plan.

You have to turn it on. Check toggles. (In cm, anyway)
Another strange thing is that when I installed the latest CyanogenMod 10 stable release, my data stopped working again no matter how much I tweaked the various mobile network settings. The data starts working again after installing King Kang. AOKP M1 works as well
Finally figured it out. My SIM only works when the APN is set to wap.cingular (not pta)
Ok, I thought I had seen it all until today. I Have a AT&T Branded Note SGH-i717. Stock ICS 4.04 IMM76D.UCLF6 Not rooted. Everything works 100%. I Unlocked it to use with Solavei (A T-Mobile MVNO). Put the SIM card in, asked for code, took the network code just fine, boom, unlocked. But no reception. I get a Circle with a line through it for signal strength. I've done this sucessfully 50 times until now. Can't firure out what is wrong.
When I go to Mobile Network Settings and and then to Network Operators, All I get for available Networks is "AT&T and 311660." When I look at the Settings, about phone, and status... Mobile Network type unknown, My Phone number is correct, IMEI is there, Service state says "out of service," and it keeps trying to jump on the 311660.
I usually see T-Mobile, T-Mobile, and ATT for Available Networks, but not on this phone.
I am trying to blame it on the fact that under Signal Strength the ASU is 0.
I have tried several Activated Solavei SIMS, T-Mobile SIMS, as well as an ATT SIM. Nothing on any of them. The only thing that changes with each SIM is the APN Setting.
My question is, why is it that I can not get this phone to work with any SIM? And Why do I not see any other networks (like I usually do) other than AT&T and that 311660 Network.
Does this have anything to do with it?
Arbitrary Strength Unit (ASU) is an integer value proportional to the received signal strength measured by the mobile phone.
It is possible to calculate the real signal strength measured in dBm (and thereby power in Watts) by a formula. However, there are different formulas for 2G and 3G networks.
In GSM networks, ASU is equal to the RSSI (received signal strength indicator, see TS 27.007 sub clause 8.5).
dBm = 2 × ASU - 113, ASU in the range of 0..31 and 99 (for not known or not detectable)
In UMTS networks, ASU is equal the RSCP level (received signal code power, see TS 27.007 sub clause 8.69 and TS 27.133 sub clause 9.1.1.3)
dBm = ASU - 116, ASU in the range of -5..91 and 255 (for not known or not detectable)
It is widely disbelieved[by whom?] that ASU = "Active Set update". The Active Set Update is a signalling message used in handover procedures of UMTS and CDMA mobile telephony standards. On Android phones, the acronym ASU has nothing to do with Active Set Update. It has not been declared precisely by Google developers.[1]
Which I am thinking it does... And if so how do I fix it? Do I need to replace the piece that contains the Buzzer Ringer Speaker + Antenna Flex Cable?
If this phone is still registered on an account it would still function with another SIM in it right?
Was up all night with this phone!
Any help?

I don't get this phone! Everything works, but I can't get it on any network. Why? :crying:
This phone is for at&t and not compatible with T-Mobile when stock.
You will have to flash a modem so your phone can be on the T-Mobile frequencies.

I get that. But I unlocked the phone, put A SIM card in, and it should work fine. Any Unlocked ATT phone will work on -Mobile. I have tried three different carrier SIM Cards to no avail.

When you put a t-mobile sim in an unlocked at&t phone you can make phone calls and send texts only.
You can enable 2G/EDGE data by inputting a t-mobile APN. But I don't think you can save the APN unless the phone is rooted (I'm not 100% sure about being able to save).
Anyway, like ^^^^^ said, flash the Blaze modem or the S3 modem.

Tried this just now. No go. When I go to Settings, more, mobile networks, network operators, now its sees NO networks whatsoever.
FOr some reason this phone only sees the ATT network and the 311660 network. But even when I put a live ATT SIM Card in the phone it still does not work.
Banging my head against the wall over here! :cyclops:

I tried everything. Stock, rooted, Modems, ROMs, etc. My issue is that no matter what I do or what SIM I put in the phone I can't do anything. No calls, No Text, and I don't even think I can call 911
Hardware issue?

I'm in Clearwater Florida. Don't know how a GSM Phone is picking up a Metro Signal.....
Spent 2 hours in the ATT&T Store trying to resolve the issue as well. No luck there. I forgot more than they know, but at least I found out the IMEI is clean and the ESN is clear.
I'm Stumped. :silly:
Gotta be a hardware issue??!!??

Maybe this is the frequency that allows the 911 calls?

Is it possible someone flashed a CDMA ROM to this phone? But if they did, I have already flashed the Stock GSM ROM (straight from Kies) back on the phone, so wouldn't that take care of the issue if someone had flashed a CDMA ROM to the phone by mistake?
Grasping for Straws.....
$100 Reward to the person who can tell me how to fix this one... Lol

I'm giving up on this phone. Something wrong with it for sure. Especially if I can't fix it. AT&T has agreed to take it back, and send me a new one. I'm just pissed that I spent about 20+ hours on this phone and never could find out what was wrong with it.:silly:

So really any of the ATT Galaxy Line I can Flash the T-Mobile version to it and use it on T-Mobile?
Hello people. I am hoping for some help. Have s4 mini I9195. Unlocked. Currently I am connected to T-Mobile network. However can only get 2g in my area. So bought, activated, registered, and paid for att account. Now have both T-Mobile and att. However, when plugging in the att aim it WILL NOT connect to att. I get 4 Signal bars on phone but no connection. Have correct apn. Spent two hours with att it's not on their end. Sim card works fine in different phones and other att sims WILL NOT work in my phone. So we know it's NOT a Sim issue. And remember T-Mobile network is connected and working. Only att is the problem and will not connect. Any ideas?? Please help??
I'm on the verge of flashing custom recovery, rom, gapps, to maybe fix this but want to make sure I am not missing something more simple first.
I've done all the basic stuff from resetting phone, apns, closest tower, etc.. Just see seems like phone will not accept att now. It did for first night for about 15 mins got texts and Signal, but nothing since. I am stumped.
Thank you for any help
Hello, I just switched from Sprint to a Verizon MVNO and a few weird things are happening and I can't seem to find a lot of info or help for it. After sticking the new SIM in, it said it was connecting to "." and then it updated apps for "." After that, where Sprint or US Mobile should be located at the top left, it says "Roaming Indicator Off" instead. In the network settings it says the network provider is "roaming indicator off" lol.
The APN list is a dozen of Verizon related ones, and Verizon Internet is selected. I was told by support to use add a new APN., and it removed the long list of others and kept the VZWINTERNET one. The top left then read "Searching for Service" and I had LTE while it was searching but after 2 or so minutes it shut off and read "Emergency calls Only". I've tried putting the Sprint sim back in and fiddling with the settings there and switching back to the US Mobile sim, and it started to try to activate to the network but eventually failed and gave error code 6604. I'm assuming it was trying to connect to Sprint? Someone suggested taking a Verizon sim and seeing if that can install the Verizon personality on the phone, since it was still running Sprint OMADM and was in an in-between stage of being both Sprint and Verizon. I found an old Verizon droid and put the sim in. It got it to recognize as a Verizon sim, and now it boots up saying Hello Verizon, downloaded the apps and waited a while. Started to look good, it said it couldn't activate service but I'm assuming because there isn't any on it? Popped the US Mobile sim back in and still saying Roaming Indicator Off. MMS still doesn't work either. Also noticed I have a new APN, LTE Verizon Internet. I have another phone with an active Verizon service on it, but I'm not sure if that will work either. Maybe I'm more in Verizon land than no man's land now.. At least I'm getting somewhere.
I should also add this is on a Galaxy S9+ and was leased on Sprint, I bought it out over a week ago and ported over 2 days ago. MMS is also not working. Data, and VoLTE are though.
