Q&A
Installation:
You can run this rom on JB bootloader but you will have to install a older kernel from this thread to have full wifi working. but I will not support it
First time you install KitKat rom follow the instructions. After that there is no way back to JellyBean BOOTLOADER and your warranty is void as the KNOX is tripped in bootloader. You can still install JellyBean Rom compaired with JB kernel on the new bootloader
Download the rom from this thread for your device and place it on your Note8.0
Install the latest PhilzTouch recovery for your device (I'm running philz_touch_6.41.6-n5110).
Full WIPE if you install this rom for the first time.
Install the rom and reboot
Aircommand
Bugs with Aircommand:
Chrome won't work = you need to install Chrome beta
Activating reader mode will cause a reboot when opening a app that supports reader mod
Aircommand terminal command and tips:
Remember when installing the Aircommand that you will disable some features of your note.
Like some quick command options and Spen gestures.
Why this option:
That is the reason why I build in a command that makes it possible to disable Aircommand or enable it, this way you don't need to reinstall the rom to get rid of Aircommand, with this command you only need to reboot your tablet to enable/disable it.
When you disable the Aircommand all normal features of the Note8.0 will work for 95% again. Best is to reinstall the rom.
Open terminal emulator
su (enter) airoff (enter)
su (enter) airon (enter)
Tip to pop up the Aircommand :
Go to Xblasted modules - Statusbar - Gestures and select a gesture to pop-up the Aircommand trigger app.
I did long press in statusbar. Now you can open the Aircommand in any app by long presing the statusbar area
If you are looking for the Spen window manager only (no aircommand) support I suggest you install this app (best but you need to pay for it) or this , it can only makes pen window short cuts. where the paid app allows much more options .
With one of these apps you don't need Aircommand to have the pen windows.Stock battery or change battery icon
Use the 3minit battery app to select your favorite battery icon, the stock kk icon can be found in one of the online download sections of the app.Kernel Q&A
Note on CIFS:
Example on what you enter, but your IP and share, if that wasn't clear. The option section is very important
Note on NTFS
You need to use Paragon!
You need to set your mount point yourself.
Example and recommended is:
Code:
/mnt/extSdCard/paragon
Miracast/Allshare support
If it doesn't work install Triangle away from the playstore and reset your counter and select the reset at reboot.
The custom kernel support it, I tested it and I have no problems.
Black screen with miracast= ask your miracast device (TV or player) manufactor to solve it, this is not a kernel rom problem.
Looking forward to this new kernel.
Thanks for your ongoing support of the Note 8.0. :good:

Yes the 5100 and 5120 will get support but as I'm building the kernel for every device separate from the official source for your device I have to do it 3 times. 5110/5100/5120.
The older kernel was all based on one source but as I want it to be bug free and smooth I want to make a clean start for every device.
Patience as I don't have much time.
Smoothness and stability is the reason why not every special feature is in the new kernel. I tested it a long time and it is compiled now in release mode. Meaning all debugging stuff is removed so the footprint is as small as possible.
I hope this answers your questions and that you are not forgotten.
Chromecast casting!
I can confirm that Chromecast casting works with the 3.0 ROM and the Mirror Enabler app. :good:
Miracast connects to my dongle, which it didn't before, but the image doesn't appear on the remote screen. I believe that's the fault of the cheap dongle I bought but it would be great if someone with a reliable Miracast device can confirm that.
I've flashed many times since I last ran Triangle Away but didn't have to run it to get Chromecast casting working with this ROM.

Coming from Flexnote kk Rev.2.1 do I need to wipe for the new version?
Btw, thanks for your great work. I just discovered and flashed Flexnote kk last week and it is working very well
Edit: I am aware of your instructions to wipe if installing the ROM for the first time but I was wondering whether Rev 2.1 is considered the same ROM and is therefore updateable to the new version or not. Tx
Edit 2: OK, I might not be the smartest peg, but I think I finally got it: by wiping and flashing the Rev 3 we are also flashing the recommended KK bootloader which is needed to run the new kernel included in the ROM. I was wrong! We need to flash the kitkat bootloader separately through Odin. Find instructions and links to the bootloader files here and here
I did it per instructions in Q&A post and all I can say is - WOW! The wipe was totally worth it. Haven't tried all the features as I don't need them (Miracast/Allshare cast/Google chromecast, Air Commands) but all the basic stuff, S pen included, works, flies! The UI and scrolling are very fast and much smoother then in Rev 2.1 which I thought was great as it was. Embedded YouTube also works now. Your beer is on its way!

It is possible bu don't complain if wifi or some other stuff don't work. And for this rom/kernel you need to be on KK bootloader.

In previous testing with the stock ROM it would connect and then drop the connection almost immediately, which is why I think the problem is with the dongle. With this ROM it connects and stays connected but no image appears on the screen.
I'm planning to pick up this dongle once it is released. That manufacturer has support forums and frequent firmware updates so I'm hoping to have better luck with that.

I am one of the many that enjoyed the plethora of battery icons to choose from in your last build so I think I'm going to stick with the last update. I followed the link in the OP and the instructions on how to obtain what i had before was a little over my head. We all appreciate your time and effort that was put into this awsome rom and kernel. Thank you again.

OP, do you have sound in video recording? Is the camera app stable? Other than that i like the idea of this rom, pure stock AOSP, no mods
@Cocolopes
Yes it's based on SuperNexus and has some of those features, I will list exactly which ones in OP later today but no it won't receive SuperNexus changes.
Edit: OP updated
@Mashed_Potatoes
I haven't tested it yet, I will test shortly and let you know. As far as camera goes, it's been working spot on for me. I don't use any scene modes or whatnot but as for just using it to generally snap a pic of something - it works fine.
Edit: Audio in video is working, I found a bug with video camera though, see Bug List post #3.

I'd try either turning assert on or off in recovery (if possible).
Will sort the problem in next build.
Edit: As this was based on SuperNexus, for the next build, should I base it purely on AOSP or continue using this base?

To God be the glory, my SlimRoms project finally works!
Sleek, simple, slim, SLIMROMS. This is the lightweight champion of cell phones! Not another CM based rom, SlimRoms is based off of AOSP source, with custom edits for a smoother, simpler interface. If you are looking for every feature, check out AOKP, or PAC ROM, but if you want to step back into the simple life on your phone, then this is the Rom to do it.
**** This is an UNOFFICIAL ROM. Install at your own risk! ****
Downloads :
BASELINE Download: The base rom before any changes such as kernels. Everything works, without extras.

What works :
Code:
+ Phone calls/receiving
+ Data 2g/3g/LTE
+ Bluetooth
+ WiFi
+ MTP
+ GPS
+ S PEN
etc....
What doesn't :
Code:
- The Camera works, however, the flash often gets stuck on. I recommend using OpenCamera app from the playstore instead, with OpenCamera, this does not happen.
- The edge panel is not implemented at this time. The screen wraps around the edge.
- I have not found any big errors, fault crashes, or problems yet. Please let me know if you find an issue!
This SlimRoms MM ROM was built for the tbltexx and tbltetmo, the International and T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. I have not tried this on any other device, but you are welcome to try it AT YOUR OWN RISK. You will need to edit the META-INF updater script to accomplish this.

Notes:
Here are some notes about the rom that I thought might help:
Random Reboot issues?
If you are having random reboot issues with the new kernel, you can adjust the settings as follows:
CPU max freq. 2496 MHz
GPU max freq. 500 MHz
CPU governor interactive
GPU governor msm-adreno-tz
I/O scheduler CFQ
That should solve your issue with the kernel. If you want, you may also flash this baseline kernel:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/bt4qw03m8jko53a/slim-mm-kernel-baseline.zip
This baseline kernel will always work just fine, however the battery life and performance are not as good as the AKLU kernel.
Using Layers:
Yes, this Rom unofficially supports RRO layering! This is not a CM rom, and does not have the CMTE (CyanogenMod Theme Engine).
So, if you go to the playstore, you can download the (depreciated) RRO Layers manager: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lovejoy777.rroandlayersmanager
Note that it is depreciated, but still works. I downloaded the Elixium UI theme here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bitsykolayers.Elixium
And installed it. Because of the depreciation, not every RRO layers theme works perfectly, and may not change everything the way you want. However, you can see the screenshots here, the first screenshot is the original settings menu with the Slim Stock colors, and then the second is the RRO Elixium colors. You will have to play with themes to get them to work how you want, but there are lots of options, so have fun!
If the screen looks red-ish, check the settings->display->live display options, you may want to turn them off, it is a low light sensitive display option.
Airplane mode - While switching between WiFi and regular data, on rare occasions, the phone will get stuck where you have data or WiFi with the ! mark and no connectivity. If this happens, you don't have to reboot, just hit airplane mode, give it a second, then hit it again to get everything working again.
T-Mobile users with device model = unknown:
If you are using a N915T (like myself), then after you flash the datazip file, you will notice that your phone reports itself as "unknown" to apps like XDA, TapTalk, About Phone, etc.
The fix is very easy!
-Open /system/build.prop in any text editor
-Anywhere in the file, add this line:
Code:
ro.build.model=SM-N915T
Save and exit, then reboot your phone. You can check "about phone" under settings, you should see yourself as SM-N915T, and apps like XDA should report you as Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
Setting selinux to permissive: (Now permissive by default.)
See @oscarmaldonado post here for one of the many ways to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69235667&postcount=17
Apps:
OpenCamera - The Slim stock camera gets "stuck" with the flash sometimes, so you can either turn off flash on the stock camera, or use a different app. I used OpenCamera successfully, with no issues while using the flash, you can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera
Side App Bar - This has a semi useful side "edge" bar feel.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=infamous.apps.appsbarfree

Works great here. I am guessing that you mean, how to install an apk without the play store?
Go to settings -> security -> unknown sources.
Make sure that is on. This allows you to install apk files that you have downloaded.
If the apk you wish to install requires root, you can enable root by tapping repeatedly on settings -> about phone -> build number, this will enable developer options. Then you can go to settings -> developer options -> root access, and change it to enabled for apps.
Aptoide is a great Google PlayStore alternative if you want a way to keep your apps up to date without Google.

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble.
I am using this rom right now, and I can install all the .apk files from my sdcard.
Can you be more specific about the problem? What happens when you try to install them? Does it give you an error?
Here are some generic questions that may help us figure this out:
-Which phone specific model are you using?
-Did you flash 5.1.1 modem/bootloader prior to this rom?
-Did you do a wipe before installing?
-Which gapps did you use? Is it Arm 6.0?
-Have you installed anything else (supersu/xposed/etc.)?
Thanks,
Maybe we can get to the bottom of this.
There is a new kernel thread for these roms, you can find it here:

Now includes the Nightmare governor!

Pretty stable, I have been using it as a daily driver for the past 3 days. No issues. The only bug is that the flash for the camera causes problems on the built in app, I have been using open camera without the flash issue. Be sure to grab the kernel from the above kernel thread for better battery life.
By God's grace, I just now figured out how to fix the recents button. I have it working as a menu button on my phone as we speak, and I am building it into another rom update! However, if you can't wait, or want to do it yourself, it is really easy to fix:
Using ES File Explorer or similar, open /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl.
Go down past "key 226 HEADSETHOOK"
and add "key 254 MENU"
Save and close that.
Then, open /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl.
Go down past "key 212 CAMERA"
and add "key 254 MENU"
Save and close that.
Then, open /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl.
Edit "key 254 MENU"
Save and close that.
Now, reboot your phone and the recents button will be a menu button!
Another build will be rolled out soon with this built in.
Praise God! A new build is up!
Check out the OP for downloads. The latest build fixes the RECENTS button, which didn't work at all, which is now a MENU button.
I dirty flashed this over my old Slim6 build, be sure to dirty flash any datazips if you are using those too. You do not need to reflash Gapps if you are dirty flashing. As always, be sure to make a backup before proceeding!
thank you so [email protected] for fix recents button
let me flash new slim build rom!
i suggest you can name the rom name like Slime V2.0 when you release new Slim rom.
that's more easy to distinguish.
A while back I made some boot animations for Slimroms. If you are interested, you can check them out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/slimroms/general/homemade-slimroms-boot-animation-t3377271
Nothing fancy, just some simpler, slimmer boot animations.

Should we add or replace with menu 254 ???
Sent from my unknown using XDA-Developers mobile app
The latest build is in the op, you can just download and dirty flash to fix this if you want.
If you do it by hand, the first two files you add that line, the last file you edit 254 to say MENU.
I hope that helps!
Hey all, I edited POST #4 with the following information about random reboot problems, if you experience this, then use these tricks to make them stop, or use the baseline kernel to ensure you don't have those problems ever again.
Random Reboot issues?
If you are having random reboot issues with the new kernel, you can adjust the settings as follows:
CPU max freq. 2496 MHz
GPU max freq. 500 MHz
CPU governor interactive
GPU governor msm-adreno-tz
I/O scheduler CFQ
That should solve your issue with the kernel. If you want, you may also flash this baseline kernel:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/bt4qw03m8jko53a/slim-mm-kernel-baseline.zip
This baseline kernel will always work just fine, however the battery life and performance are not as good as the AKLU kernel.
Great work alaska ! Love your devotion and dedication .
The OP has been updated!
For the group, I am planning to change the way the OP lists the release in the Downloads section of the post.
I have a released a build entitled "BASELINE", in this case, "Slim-tblte-tmo-xx-6.0.1-UNOFFICIAL-20161108-BASELINE.zip". This BASELINE edition has the original kernel, with everything working as it stands. That way, any who want the modified kernel can grab it from the kernel thread, and not have to worry about it being built into the rom.
So, if you have any problems with the rom, give the BASELINE edition a try. It is really rock solid. The other releases will have other kernels and posibly other options in the future.

FAQ
Highly recommended to read FAQ from here.
1. Bootloop.
Did you flashed SuperSU or Magisk again? Maybe you were rooted before and you need to reflash root. Pay attention to OP instructions and to the text printed in recovery.
2. Thank you for this kernel.
But can you please help me to get surround sound on my S6?
Sure. Here is it.
3. How to build your kernel from source?
After you git cloned it, open terminal in root of the cloned folder and enter this: "sudo bash build_kernel.sh G920F" (or your model). Choose stock dt.img during building process.
4. Synapse is saying:
- "No UCI support" → Close the app from recents and open it again. If still no UCI support then PM me with the output of this command: uci (run it with su permissions).
- "JSON configuration parsing failure" → Using a file manager go to /res/synapse and delete a file named "config.json", close Synapse then open again, UCI error, reopen and done.
- The apply and discard buttons appeared for no reason. Which one should I click? → Click "X". This is a bug in Synapse.
- Is there a mod for Synapse? → Yes, Morogoku worked on it and I modified it a little bit to match our kernel and I built it. Get it from here. All the credits are going to Morogoku. It features backup/restore profile option and a red material theme.
5. Where to install BusyBox?
In /su/xbin or /system/xbin. I'm using SuperSU and Synapse is working perfectly. After each boot up I highly recommend you to check the Synapse settings, especially CPU OC to see if everything is ok.
6. There are unexpected freezes. What should I do?
Open Synapse, go to GPU tab and set GPU highspeed clock to 420 MHz.
7. How to fix the excessive heating?
Try switching from Interactive governor to Nexus and vice versa. See which one is good for you. I think Nexus will be the one.

Also I've added the source link in OP.
Edit: Added a FAQ.
@minealex2244 Everyone using AOSP for s6 really appreciate your work mate, thanks and I hope you continue the great work
Does it work with AOKP?
Hope this one can be compatible with g9208 as well!!There isn't any rom compatible with g9208...stock touchwiz forever doesn't sound good:crying::crying:

I don't know. If you want you can try it.
hey can you add support for people using s7e battery with S6 ?
i am on nexus os rom.
Thanks for the kernel...will try it and report in a few days:good:
can you add :
spectrum app support https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-spectrum-kernel-manager-users-t3601542
gpu overclock
Add stock power management, nexus team add custom power management that cause very poor battery life.
also can you fix gpu in nexus rom, because dont scale up right like in stock rom.
gpu is always active at low freq and also only use low and max frequence.

Spectrum seems a good thing but I'll add support for Synapse. If it won't break anything then I'll add Spectrum support. Regarding battery life I'll inspect it as I had just put my hands on this kernel.
Regarding GPU it depends on the governor the kernel is using by default. Synapse support should give you the ability to select another governor.
Next week I will have a little holiday and when I get back I'll try to add Synapse support for both my kernels.

IronMan-Rom for the Note 8 is finally here with a dedicated thread :victory:
Hey guys! Here we are another time
Assuming that you already know me more or less, this rom is based upon latest Samsung Experience 9.0 (Android 8.0). I really love the Samung UI, that's why I work on those roms and not on AOSP such as LineageOS, I know I'm a little fanboy
Coming to the features, it's similar to the ones you'll find on my other roms such as BatMan-Rom (for the S8/S8+ and S7/S7e) or the SuperMan-Rom (for the S7/S7e) or even the EOL (End Of Life) HydraRom (for the glorious N7) :good:
The Rom itself contains many many custom features via RomControl, I'll list the most important ones below, still you are very welcome to try them all via the RomControl app (choosable in aroma). Now enough talking, wish you much fun flashing the rom and hope you'll enjoy it! :fingers-crossed:

How to install the rom:
For advanced users:
0. Make sure to have a backup somewhere on external storage
1. Make sure to be on most recent TWRP, bootloader and modem
2. Flash the rom
3. If you need VoLTE or Wifi Calling, flash your correct carrier CSC
4. Done :highfive:
For normal users:
0. Boot your phone, enable OEM unlock in developer settings
1. Flash TWRP with Odin, following this thread Note 8 TWRP until it works correctly (to access download mode, press bixby+volume down+power on while phone is turned off)
2. Make sure you are using most recent bootloader and modem, latest one available here on Android File Host
3. Now boot into TWRP by pressing bixby+volume up+power on while phone is turned off
4. If TWRP asks you about allowing system to be edited, swipe yes to confirm
5. In TWRP, go to wipe, format data (a keyboard will pop up now), type "yes" (this will wipe all your data, make sure to have a backup!)
6. After this, reboot recovery and start the rom installer
7. Select your preferences in my aroma installer, make sure to chose NO ROOT for the first rom flash so dalvik-cache can be build properly!
8. If you selected to auto update bootloader in aroma, the installer will reboot automatically
9. You can still install my CSC selection if you are customer of a carrier which is not supported by default CSC inside the rom
10. Wait till the rom boots up
11. Go though the setup and boot back into twrp. Then flash your preferred root method in the recovery
12. After setting up, open IronControl Free and let the app apply my default settings!
13. Enjoy the rom!

so i installed b2, prior to this build and got the same experience so reverted to renovate., downloaded ur new rom today, clean flashed it, as soon as i try to restore my 29 apps from tibu, and reboot, the screen just flashes like crazy and i'm unablee to use the phone unlock it or do anything, same thing happened to b2.
I did remove that stupid 3minit battery app and it's resources apk. is that something to do with it? if so can we have a option in aroma not to have 3minit battery?
I did not remove anything else prior to restoring my own apps and rebooting.
On renovate when i do the same thing i do not experience the same result.
thanks in advanced tkkg1994
Edit: i also lost root as soon as i booted up, chose 14.5 magisk in aroma

If you remove 3minit = systemui crash. Why? The systemui relies on it, that's why we have the romcontrol to disable it. The apps don't run in the background, they don't use any space, nor ram, nothing. There is no reason to delete those apks. If you choose to have the stock UI you won't get them installed of course.
I explained once back on SuperMan why I will NOT make a separate systemui with/without 3minit and that will stay the same for now.
All issues related to magisk, please report to the magisk threads here
Another masterpiece from the Roger Federer of XDA, runs beautiful on N8, no issues, hope you can crack the CSC encryption in the future but you've pretty much nailed it so far, thanks for your work.

sorry i brother i never used ur roms before so i wouldn't had any prior knowledge.
I can't use the rom knowing something is on it that i do not want but thank you
It's fairly common for FD devices that had the missing OEM unlock to lose root when using magisk in initial flashes, doesn't appear to me they know why.

What does that mean???
Good luck finding a ROM (official or custom) that doesn't have stuff you don't want in it, if you want such a ROM then develop your own.
This Dev is one of the best so seeing that comment is insulting.
He makes it quite clear that the settings are disabled in ROM Control and with them disabled they have no influence on the system whatsoever.
Your loss in skipping this ROM, one of the best in my opinion.

thanks for the new rom. will try it later
He's on an timer'ed FD, folks facing a week in jail have to be careful. It's got nothing to do with the rom or the developer, it's about staying alive.

relax, i wasn't saying it to be insulting, just really dislike 3minit apps. Maybe i'll come around to it, later.

Tried the beta. Love this rom very much. Quick and smooth. Unfortunately, I am also on an FD. Was jailed 7 days when I was on the beta, blamed it on myself for my carelessness but this OEM thingy is my phobia. Agreed with you, it's about staying alive for FD users.

Was in the beta. the OEM unlock was hidden. I've already downloaded this stable version. Have yet to install. On reserve mode and ready to go anytime after better understanding in this discussion. You know our fingers are always itchy to try more even if we already know that FD is always at risk. That's the spirit ya?
Is this rom purely based on the note 8 ...Or is it like the beta that was comparable with s8 and s7 edge ? Cause had some theming problems when I was on the beta ...The contact page wasn't theming correctly...That's why asked ?
Thanks man, rom is smooth, love that...thank you very much
Installed it 1 day ago... and what do u think, u can u expect from a ROM with initial Release...
Well, I must say, this is my ROM. It's so feature rich packed with useful mods. Till now runs smooth and stable.
Aroma installation guides you through wipe options, debloating and feature. I am really impressed. I found my daily driver...
Finally I got a suggestion. There is still the problem with appearance of OEM-Unlock Toggle for many N8 users.
Most Custom ROMs hide this toggle. Isn't it possible to show the toggle and its status and just disable it, instead of hideing?

IronMan-Rom for the Galaxy S8/S8+ is finally here with a dedicated thread :victory:
Hey guys! Here we are another time
Assuming that you already know me more or less, this rom is based upon latest Samsung Experience 8.5 (Android 7.1.1).
Nobody is allowed to take stuff from my rom without asking me! Thank you.
IF YOU FOLLOW MY STEPS BELOW, YOU WILL MAY LOSE YOUR WARRANTY, KNOX WILL DISPLAY 0x1! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED DEVICE!

Thanks tried that already...no luck...tried a few different options in Aroma installer (with/out stock kernel etc etc)
After the first boot, when I try to install my apps - backckup about my gmail account, direct after when you insert your mail it's end in a "whitescreen". The only thing was works is the power menue on a white screen. After a reboot the same occurs.
I've G950f with AOK7 baseband.

There is only 1 reason it can bootloop: installation aborts because too many bloatware files have been selected. It will display an error message on your screen saying: some symlinks failed. In this case reflash with LESS bloatware :good:
