Disable the stupid Verizon installer? - Verizon LG G3

So, my LG G3 won't load work via USB for music on my 2013 BMW 328i. The BMW recognizes the device when I put into MTP, then the G3 goes back into the stupid Verizon installer, and then the BMW says "device not recognized." Any fixes?

Not necessary to sell the BMW.
OP you can use this
http://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Wireless-Bluetooth-Connectors-NAB-4003/dp/B00J4YU7II
I have it and I can stream via bluetooth to the USB interface.
It looks like an A2DP adapter to the phone and a mass storage device to the car..
Best part is no cables.

Should be a matter of disabling a service.

Why not just stream over bluetooth? Certainly that BMW has bluetooth audio streaming features. Works great, no wires, and great sound. Give that a shot. No need to buy extra stuff.

I don't know what service.
At some point I'll investigate, it's just not high on my to do list right now.
I use the BT adapter that I posted earlier. I found it at Fry's for $10.
For me it's a great solution because I don't need wires.

Bluetooth Remote Control for Android Media Player, etc

I'm looking for a Bluetooth remote to use in my car, to control my G1 when it's hooked up as a music player. This is both a safety and convenience concern.
The starting point is finding a remote control that transmits Bluetooth directly to the G1 (i.e., not infrared or wired). It needs, at a minimum, a forward and a stop button. Reverse, pause, and other functions are nice, but not mandatory.
The other half of the solution is software to control the media program in Android, which may or may not already exist; if not, I'll commission someone to write it. Maybe I can even offer a turnkey system for sale if there's enough interest.
I know someone's will say "search the forums", and I did. What I found seemed to be focus on wired remotes for another HTC phone, or remote controlling your PC with your phone. But if I missed a relevant post, please do correct me.
Ideas are greatly appreciated.
remote
there is a remote for gaming used for the n95 i saw on a website it worked for android on a basic level. maybe that might help. in the development of this
Found this on another thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Wc0KqnW2M that some people are using. Jabra BT3030
Aux cable from car stereo plugged into remote. Remote paired with phone. Not *completely wireless* but atleast you don't have to look at your phone.
Does that get you anywhere?

Hmm, I posted a reply to this, but it isn't showing up. Maybe forgot to submit.
Anyway, thanks for pointing this out. I had seen this a long time ago and forgot all about it. That's exactly the kind of thing I want. Here's the instruction manual, for anyone else who might be interested. It's about US$55.
The only problem I see here is that it'll register as a headset and thereby disable the sound coming out of the extUSB connector in the car.

It's the Zeemote JS1, and this blog has a video showing it interacting with a G1. This may ultimately be what I'd have to go with... it seems to be designed solely as a controller, without A2DP getting in the way. But looks like it needs some kind of interfacing software, at least on the Nokia. At US$20, I should just get one and play around with it. Cheaper than buying another car stereo with BT built in.
Dual Infrared + Bluetooth Remotes
FWIW, I ran across two rare, interesting items.
One is the RicaVision Vave 100 Universal Remote. Unfortunately, it's $349... but in theory, it would control both your car stereo (via infrared, which the majority of remotes use) and the G1 (via Bluetooth). It's able to "learn" commands from 24 infrared devices, and has a 2.4" 240x320 color LCD screen. No PC or internet connection is needed for configuration.
The screenshots show artist/track info being received from Windows, so it's Media PC-oriented, but still a possibility -- assuming you could program it accordingly. If so, just carry it back and forth between home and car: use it inside for your TV and PC, outside for the car stereo and G1.
The other device is the Ricavision SideShow Remote for the same price, also having IR + BT transmitters. This is purpose-built for Windows SideShow, and has fewer buttons -- volume, play/pause, prev/next, etc. It's smaller than the Vave, but still has a 2.5" QVGA screen. This is perfect for my car setup, but there doesn't seem to be a learning mode or any way to program, so the chances of it working are about zero. Boo!

If that worked in my case it'd be perfect, and it's the smallest form factor yet. The only problem I foresee with this and the Jabra is that they'll want to subvert my wired headphone output over to A2DP. But for $13 I'll probably take a chance.

Meanwhile, I didn't realize until looking more closely that most of them were fake. I've been burned by counterfeits before, and sure enough, there are a ton of them on fleaBay. I made this graphic to demonstrate:
Aside from the logos, they look identical. Price is an obvious warning, but not always. Location is another: I'm wary of shipping from Hong Kong. OTOH, just because it says Jabra doesn't mean it's real... the Motorola H700 is another example where it's nearly impossible to tell them apart online.
Unfortunately, even with VeRO and the rules against keyword spamming, this junk can be found all over eBay.

In theory, if it's able to connect to one phone's A2DP, it should connect to any. But I wonder if it has something to do with the ROM you're running?
I've noticed the G1 needs some finesse when connecting and pairing BT. Also, there are different steps you can take that all arrive at the same result (ergo, lots of trial and error).
Anyway. Now that I have the Jabra, my next problem is keeping A2DP, HSP and AVRCP separate... more on that soon.

Here is whats interesting; I have tried the BT3030 with several ROMS and I get the same results (I even tried it on stock and then rooted). When paired placing and receiving calls work fine. The problem arises when you try to listen to music, the sound skips constantly and I haven't figured a way to fix this permanently. Do you experience this problem (skipping sound)?

I got 3 knockoff bt3030s back in october (from dinodirect... shady) at $15/ea it was an ok price...
I too have the skipping problems on my Droid, but I just discovered how to fix them. Go into bluetooth settings, long-press the jabra bt3030 device, select options, and deselect phone audio and reconnect the device. Now, no more skips.
I don't know if it's the bt3030's fault, I think it might be an android bug where audio gets routed over phone audio instead of a2dp. This is evidenced by the skipping audio--headset audio only has something like 8khz of bandwidth.
It kind of sucks that phone audio has to be disabled, but in all seriousness, I use the bt3030 for a2dp far more than phone calls, if I need to make a phone call over the bt3030, I'll reconnect the phone audio and disconnect it when I'm done.
Don't know if anyone still cares, but for the record, and for searchers, there are these options:

http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/217/sfID2/219/productID/1938
Both of these are very expensive though as they are part of large packages for cars. YMMV.

[Q] slow/distored sound with android car stereo unit

whats up guys, this seemed the best place to post this since it doesnt pertain to any of the devices listed here. i have the Dynavin Android unit (www .dynavin .com / android.php) in my car and im having an issue that so far it seems only 2 other users have had.
with this unit there are 2 "sides", 2 different computers in one is guess you can say. the am/fm radio, CD/DVD, bluetooth, etc is all completely separate from the android OS side. whats happening to me is ALL sound played on android gets distorted, slow, and staticy. i have reinstalled the firmware numerous times, used different SD cards, i have tried different apps, it happens with music from the SD card and internet music, it even happens with the sounds when u adjust the volume. nobody on our huge thread at e46fanatics can figure it out and only 1 or 2 other people have had the issue.
the weird part is that many times it will play fine for a few minutes and then start to slow down, and even rebooting doesnt help at that point. im thinking maybe it could be overheating, but even with the a/c blasting in the car it happens. and the radio/cd part is completely unaffected.
thoughts?
nobody has any idea? its android 2.2
geez tough crowd
ANY ideas?
dammit....

Wow, that's a sizeable thread!
Looks an interesting device. What troubles me is that it appears to be an intermittent issue. I'd agree that heat could be a culprit, possibly - I'd be tempted to try running it out of the car for an extended period of time and see if that helps.
You could also try OSMonitor or similar and see if you can monitor internal temperature. If the ROM is rooted, you could even try under or overclocking it and see if that helps.
Car audio I can cope with, but Android debugging not so much - you could try doing a logcat (assuming you can hook up via USB) and see if it gives you useful info when it's freezing up.
I have to say, this is screaming out for you to install Torque on it and a bluetooth ODBII scanner...!

yea its not rooted and the manufacturer doesnt seem to want to help with that, and they cant seem to replicate any of the issues the units are having (including force close loops). as for Torque, problem is that the bluetooth doesnt work with the android part, it only works on the radio part for phone calls or streaming music. its like 2 separate OS's in one unit.

The unit also has USB ports on the back, that talk to the Android side. You can attach a powered USB hub to that to gain more ports. This way you can add a WiFi USB dongle, and even a BT dongle via USB.

[Q] Output the screen to a TV via this cable?

I know the droid incredible can do it, but it's definitely software based from what I've read. If I purchase this cable, would there be anyway to get it to work? I would love to tinker with it if it's possible and I can get a good start on how to figure it out.

MicroUSB to TV output cable (not really sure what the official name for it would be lol)
I'm hoping it's not ONLY HTC phones [regardless of the branding of the cable] =( Because even though it's not HD, it's still pretty cool to connect 2 sixaxis PS3 controllers and output the N64 emu to the TV for a 2 player game! Almost like having a full portable console =)
The Player definitely does not support MHL (HDMI output), but there is some stuff in /system about TV output though, not sure how tvout worked on the Captivate?

Hmm, I am guessing (and hoping) that you wouldn't need mhl support for that, since the chip is built into the cable?
Also; @entropy512, where in /system are you seing things related to tv-out?

If the headunit was designed to be used with an iPhone...then no. It depends on a specific format and directory structure in that case.
The other possibility is using it as a USB device, but the phone can't do it stock because of the 'Media' nonsense. What you need is for it to work as a USB mass storage when it's plugged in (which probably requires root).

I couldn't get Pandora to work. Local music only. It's pretty stupid, so I just use an AUX cable and use the USB port to charge. I had an idea that someone could rip apart the Kenwood app, and make some sort of hack that plays all audio through the USB port. But I'm not experienced enough to do that and there's probably not enough interest for someone else to get it done.

There is indeed a way to use USB mass storage on our phones. It was an app that was posted to the xda front page shortly after our phones came out
You know I was sitting here thinking after i read all this that if possibly there were a way to make androids react to head units like iOS does. For instance the Pandora crap. That way we didn't always have to grab our phones and look at them therefore distracting us from road conditions. Just an idea and if this were possible?

Unfortunately, most head unit manufacturers have designed their decks to support crapple devices only. There are a select few that support Android. My deck will not play through usb on my s4 but I can connect with bluetooth and browse music on they phone from the deck without ever touching the phone. That will depend on the BT support of the deck. It's a pity that the vast quantity of stupid people on this planet with Apple products still ruin it for us educated people that want nothing to do with it.

How I fixed my Kenwood/Galaxy S4 issue.
sorry if my response is late or outdated but I was having the same issue with a Kenwood head unit I installed yesterday. For me it would not work even with the Kenwood app so I downloaded an app from the Play Store call "USB mass storage enabler"... it's free. I simply opened the app after installing it and told it to enable USB mass storage. Now when I hook my s4 up to the head unit it takes about two seconds to read and then plays my music perfectly. I am able to search by folder, genre, artist Lor album etc. Works perfectly 100% ... even shuffling. just wanted to share if anyone else was continuing to have problems or had any in the future.
