So I've finally managed to install a CWM recovery for my spreadtrum phone. Went on to do my first nandroid backup but I noticed near the end of the procedure it said sd-ext partition not found sd-ext not backed up (something to that effect). I know I have an sd-ext partition because I am using link2sd (using fat32 for partitions). My question is what will happen in the event I restore that backup? Will the linked apps in the sd-ext partition need reinstall? Is there any potential problem that may occur if I restore? Thanks in advance.

[Rooted with xtrSense 5.0.1 ROM]
Well the first issue I was having was my phone wouldn't boot past the white android screen. I popped the sd out and then it booted up fine. Turned off/on and again same issue. So I decided to copy everything on my sd to my computer, format, then converted it to ext2 to ext3. Copied everything back to the sd from my computer. It booted up fine this time but now none of my apps will work. (I had apps2sd as you probably figured) - I also re-flashed it and still no apps working.
Anybody have any ideas?

Yes. The ext2 or ext3 partition was probably not visible from your PC - I am guessing it is Windows. You probably only copied the files from your FAT32 partition, but the files in your ext3 partition - where your apps are stored on apps2sd - were not copied, and when you re-partitioned, you basically formatted the disk and erased them if they were there.
If you look at the backup/restore menu in Amon_RA recovery, there is an item called Nandroid+ext backup - this would backup (and allow Nandroid restore to restore) the apps on your ext3 partition. If you have a Nandroid backup that you made with the Nandroid+ext item, you should be able to restore your apps. If not, you'll have to reinstall them. (If you installed and backed up with Titanium Backup, you could restore them from there as well, with data.)
I did a nandroid and a nandroid+ext backup before formatting my sd, so I will go ahead and restore the nd+ext now.
So what actually backups for the nandroid? ..and for the +ext?

Nandroid (on Amon_RA) backs up /system, /data and the boot partition. (If you installed the trackball optional version of Amon_RA created by Scary Alien, it also backs up the /cache partition.) Nandroid+ext does all of these and adds the SD ext partition. Nandroids from Amon_RA are named automatically with names that start with something like BDS, BCDS, BDES, followed by yyyymmdd-hhmm - these letters let you know what was backed up with that backup - (B)oot, (D)ata, (C)ache, (E)xtended partition, and (S)ystem, plus the GMT date and time of the backup.
So, any of your backups with BDES should have your apps.
Hi,
I've read that CWM3/5 can corrupt sd-ext partitions, and the recommendation is to revert back to the latest CWM2 version. Does this only apply only if I have an sd-ext partition? My Desire Z's sdcard is pure FAT32, I'm assuming CWM5 would be fine?
Also, does it matter if CWM wasn't used to create the sd-ext partition? On my wife's Desire, I used gparted to create the sd-ext4 partition. Is there a possibility CWM3/5 will corrupt it in this case? If so, when? During bootup to recovery? Or day to day use?
Thanks.
My sd ext got corrupted during a nandroid restore. I have since move to Amon Ra and it's been solid for me on my N1
A few days ago I accidently formatted my sd card by resizing sd-ext (I don't even know resizing sd-ext from CWM will format the sdcard)
Thing I have done:
Recovered the Nandroid backup with undelete software
Tried a full restore in CWM (Check mismatch in system.yaff2.img)
Tried to restore /data only (Also it doesn't let my to do this)
What should I do?Can I force the phone to restore the backup?
That Nandroid backup is my last resort to get my app data back.I don't want to play the game all over again. So plz help me
Hi all, i just replaced my sd-card so i can make a swap partition and speed up my phone.
any way.. i played with Swapper 2 options (swap and swappiness size).
after reboot my galaxy doesn't boot into the system i did a nandorid backup, moved back to Samsung official release, did a full system format and still i doesn't boot into the system.
when i'm restore to my cm backup it stuck on it writes that the restore succeed but it stuck on ''Samsung Galaxy SIII'' screen.
when the official release installed (from adb) it does a boot loop over and over (factory reset doesn't work).
another thing i noticed is that in the recovery it writes ''E:failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)''
that can i do? i think i did every thing i can
In recovery can you access the efs partition? If not then it probably is corrupt, you'll need to format it and restore your efs backup.
If you don't have an efs backup then you need a service centre.
I wouldn't mess with any partition software on this phone, too risky.
i don't have /efs partition
Ok so i managed to boot into official firmware and i found that i don't have /efs partition.
i figure this out from EFS Professional, EFS pro and the recovery.
im searching for an hours but with no answer.. - can i create /efs partition?

Do you have any older backup files.
When you try to restore your backup file CVM or TWRP recovery will ask which partitions you want to restore.
If you see EFS partition on any of your old backups you can restore it.
If no the way to service is seen.
TWRP for the OPX brings up the partitions below:
System
Data
Cache
Persist
Boot
Recovery
EFS
I wondered which ones I should be backing up for standard nandroid backups? I used to do System, Data +/- Cache on my OnePlus One. I did EFS once and backed it up externally and on the SD card, but never restored it.
Do we need to backup all partitions every time?
More importantly, do we need to restore all partitions if restoring an older nandroid of the same ROM or one from a different ROM?
Many thanks

All recommended.
You can store your backups on SD card and forget to worry about the sizes.
