Inserted sim card but no service or registered network - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a used galaxy s3 that seems fine except that i can't get it to work with my sim card. I always get the searching & not registered on network when trying to dial. The sim card works fine on other phones. the phone is running android 4.3... Any idea of what could be the problem and how to fixx it?

Are you sure that you phone isn't sim locked?

If it were sim locked you would get a request for the unlocking code at boot. Most likely the phone has been tampered or broken, either wrong modem or efs folder corrupt.
Search and read for the available fixes.

[Q] No Sim card Message after unlocking

I have bought a new Xperia Ray ST18a from Telus (Canada). I have successfully unlocked it using a code, called my voice mail without a problem. Then I downloaded Sony's PC companion to verify if the phone's software was up to date. When the update was finish, I tried to make another call and noticed the "Emergency Calls only. No Sim Card" message.
I used the Sim card in my old phone and it worked. I used another Sim card in my Ray, the 'No Sim card Message' was still there.
I sent the phone to Sony for repair and came back with again the same problem.
Anybody have a clue what is wrong with the phone?
The SIM lock Menu it shows:
[x Network 10

It's locked again
They have network locked your phone again. As for the SIM problem, maybe the phone/SIM contacts aren't clean enough. I don't think it's related to the network lock/unlock.

Thanks for the reply.
I have checked the contacts and even applied pressure on them when the phone was restarting. Same results.
How can you tell it's network locked again?
With which code did you unlock?
Does any other SIM card work?
According to the Network value, seems like the SIM-lock is still there...Is the phone branded?

Yes it's a branded phone.
I tried another SIM card from another cell phone and I'm still having the same message.
I bought an unlock code from a unlocking service from the internet.
Learned something yesterday!
Not all cell phones can prevent the insertion of the SIM card the wrong way!
On the Ray you can insert the card the wrong way and you will be able to install the battery and cover perfectly. I have re-inserted the SIM card in the right position and the "No SIM card" message disappeared and was able to unlock it with the same previous code. All is now fine.
I don't mind looking like a foul and hope this thread will help somebody else.
Thank you for trying to help.

xt910 locked up

Hi all,
I have a strange problem with my phone. Hope someone will be able to help me.
I was not sure if my phone is unlocked when I came on holiday. Bought and put a different provider sim card and there was no signal. Also showed nothing to type unlocking code, so I thought that maybe something with a new sim card is wrong.
I bought a second card from another provider to be sure. On the screen appeared: enter sim network unlock code or something like that. ok so I have to unlock.
Now the strangest thing. when I put back my old sim card (o2), on the screen appeared again: enter sim network unlock code!
Since then I can not use the phone because it still asks for the unlock code.
I tried to change the soft but still do not have signal and no longer asks for the unlock code. anyone know how to force a window to enter the code?
I tried unlocking code from a cellunlocker but not working and and when i switched on my mobile is showing invalid SIM card.
someone has any ideas of what i can do with it?
sry for my english

No Sim Card/emergency calls only help?

Hi, i have some problems with No Sim Card detected on Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 from T-Mobile (Austrian)
Firstly i unlocked the phone at the shop and was really unlocked on all sim cards but than i did a factory reset and the phone no longer detects sim card from other carriers, it only detects sim card from T-Mobile, It dosen't even shows the menu when you turn on the phone for network unlock.
I tryed using those secret codes to show the network unlock menu but they didn't work since the phone was updated to 4.3 firmware.
So i followed this guide on androible downgrade-galaxy-s3-i9300-android-4-3-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware
To downgrade to 4.1.2 firmware along with provided modem file. The secret codes now do show menu's but when i click on UMTS RF NV it says it's not supported.
Also instead of downgrading to T-Mobile 4.1.2 Firmware i downgraded it to Orange 4.1.2 Firmware hope that dosen't effects it in anyways? Phone otherwise works just fine IMEI Number shows OK.
I tryed 2 different SIM cards from orange none of them worked, it only detects SIM from T-Mobile.
To recap it all agean: I wish to unlock this phone so i can use different SIM card's but the phone is on NO Sim card, emergency calls only but when i insert T-Mobile Sim it works, Also there is no Network Unlock Menu shown durning turn on or reset since i already Unlocked the phone once with a code. Does anyone has any clue how to fix this or unlock it without rooting the phone.

Help with Samsung Win i8558 IMEI clash!!!

Hello Win'ners
Please I have this Samsung Win i8558 I got from a friend and would like to use my both lines in it (Not actually as a smartphone as I already have a Note 4) Runs on 4.2.2 but here is the problem I have with the device!
If I insert one SIM card in either slots... It reads and gets signal for the Network SIM. (either Sim1 or Sim2)
But if I slot both SIMs in both slots... It would give a "No sim card" error even when it would shows the SIM Network names under "SIM Card Manager" in settings but would not detect signal.
So I put in one SIM in sim1 and checked the IMEI via *#06# and it came up. I put in one SIM in Sim2 and checked the IMEI and found out both slots uses the same IMEI number.
If I mount both SIMs at same time and check the IMEI , it would give "Null/Null"
Any help on how to solve this problem as I have 2 network SIMs I want to use on it.
Thanks.
SOLVED
I solved the issue by flashing a later build via Odin!
Now I need root!

SIM locked on international model after modem

I'm now SIM locked after flashing a modem and can't figure out how to reverse it. I have the international model and it was never SIM locked before (a week after available). I flashed RR and couldn't get it read my SIM card so I flashed a modem. Didn't work so I restored a backup (strangely only gives system and data option) and now it shows optimizing apps every boot and says I am SIM locked. Any ideas?
I have this problem also its asking for PUK ive tried 2 different sims with there codes not working
