Hey guys, I will be compiling a list for Material Design based apps...With the new Android L coming out soon, many app developers have been updating their apps so they reflect the new Google Material Design Guidelines.
Q. What is Material?
Material is about layering information and presenting and interacting with that information in a predictable way. Android now ships with inbuilt support for Touch feedback, transitions, and viewstate changes. A design that based on the concept of paper and ink.
Goals - Create a visual language that synthesizes classic principles of good design with the innovation and possibility of technology and science. Develop a single underlying system that allows for a unified experience across platforms and device sizes. Mobile precepts are fundamental, but touch, voice, mouse, and keyboard are all first-class input methods.
Principles:
Material is the metaphor. A material metaphor is the unifying theory of a rationalized space and a system of motion. The material is grounded in tactile reality, inspired by the study of paper and ink, yet technologically advanced and open to imagination and magic.Surfaces and edges of the material provide visual cues that are grounded in reality. The use of familiar tactile attributes helps users quickly understand affordances. Yet the flexibility of the material creates new affordances that supersede those in the physical world, without breaking the rules of physics. The fundamentals of light, surface, and movement are key to conveying how objects move, interact, and exist in space in relation to each other. Realistic lighting shows seams, divides space, and indicates moving parts.
Bold, graphic, intentional. The foundational elements of print-based design—typography, grids, space, scale, color, and use of imagery—guide visual treatments. These elements do far more than please the eye; they create hierarchy, meaning, and focus. Deliberate color choices, edge-to-edge imagery, large-scale typography, and intentional white space create a bold and graphic interface that immerses the user in the experience. An emphasis on user actions makes core functionality immediately apparent and provides waypoints for the user.
Motion provides meaning. Motion respects and reinforces the user as the prime mover. Primary user actions are inflection points that initiate motion, transforming the whole design. All action takes place in a single environment. Objects are presented to the user without breaking the continuity of experience even as they transform and reorganize. Motion is meaningful and appropriate, serving to focus attention and maintain continuity. Feedback is subtle yet clear. Transitions are efficient yet coherent.

UPDATE: neverming! You hyperlinked...
Pretty nice
I couldn't use it because a lot of tiles I have are not in the database. It is a really nice concept an I can only see it getting better.
Sorry, but this would be a nightmare for developers.
Even though I like it from a user point of view.

Hmm. Can you elaborate why is it a nightmare?
Live tiles are already a nightmare as MS brings more accent colors to the mix. You need to find colors that would look nice on all 20 (you are left with either white or black). If you make tiles shift colors like that, then they lose a lot of their usability, because info displayed on them will not be readable anymore under all circumstances, and developers can;t do squat about it.
This is why most apps don't use a live tile or if they do, they do not use dynamic backgrounds, which kinda nullify your theme as colors will be hard coded.
If your app has a live tile with a transparent background, meaning you are using the theme colour, you will be using white colour for your live tile info. I think this is pretty standard and every app is doing this. I dont think app developer skip the live tile due to trying to cater to theme colours, but rather they have no meaningful info to show. As long as you are using the standard white colour, you have nothing to worry about readability. The users will ensure the custom theme they use will allow them to read the live tile.
Just an update.
New Skinery update has been released
- Added Viber, Wikipedia, Social Scout, Facebook JDB, Alarms, Basic Calculator, Accounts, Location and Lockscreen apps.
More apps are coming online every week so do not get left out! Contact us to get your app integrated: [email protected]
They can always using a flip tile to chow info even with hard coded stuff.
The fact is, live tiles are a bit of a challenge for developers and many (trust me i am a developer myself) choose to skip this because it is way too tiresome for them. Take for instance CNN: it doesn't have a live tile when it has quite a lot of meaningful info to show.
I love the idea cause in IMO the start screen really sucks as far as looks go. It need a settings menu though for more options like deleting and whatnot. Not that in a Dev or anything. Nice app though.
Amazing app!

Good work
Hi, I've installed. And I very like your QR Code and effort to install.
I really like your design. And the way how you did the first tutorial.
I've installed, clicked on my images from gallery and created first art.
I am from Switzerland and in case you did good work on icons, there is absolute no language issue. Very easy to understand. When I saw the first samples of Acolart I was impressed.
And I like that you have not implemented ads. Please keep that. I will keep your app on my phone!!
My recommendations:
1. Don't ask for rating on first time. Keep in mind, on first time user can do serveral things wrong and has for example not perfect library. What he is rating is not what you need.
2. When you ask for rating, ask if he has any problems before you want his rating. If he has problems, ask if you can get his suggestion and not go to rating page on this point. Your rating are worse just in the case you are asking wrong, not in case the app is not good.
3. The Save-Methode should be change. That is bad. Use Windows methodes and move to a "next page". And more important, move back to main view after the image has safed. And dont ask for "Back to select another language"? The app crashed because I did not select something quickly at this question.
4. You should register the app as "Editor" in Windows Phone. That is important to allow user to click the app after he has made any picture and look at his gallery.
If you need help, I can assist you (WP developer too).
I ratet 5 stars. Keep that way you are working on it...

How To Design An Android App
Hey sweethearts, I've made a few threads about design resources, icons, fonts, websites and stuff like that. But maybe you're sitting here with nothing more than an app idea swirling around in your brain. You're probably wondering where to get started and what the steps are to design an Android app from scratch. So I'll walk you through the steps you need to take to have a great design that you can then develop into an app.
Step 1- Creating a Wireframe
Alright so first things first. Start with the basics. What you need to do is create a wireframe layout that will show every page, menu, option and function of your of your app. This is what a wireframe layout will look like.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You can checkout this guide that will walk you through how to get your wireframe setup in a way that makes sense.
Putting it All Together: Wireframing the Example App
Now you'll need a wireframe kit to get started, which will contain all the graphics that you'll need. You can piece together your wireframe in a program like Adobe Illustrator or any graphic design program that you use. Checkout this thread that lists some of the best free wireframe kits.
5 Free Android Wireframe Kits
Step 2- Stickers and Graphics
Now that you have a cute little wireframe going, it's time to get to the fun part. We are going to put together the graphical interface for your app. This is where you choose the icons, font, colors and images that will be displayed throughout your app.
To do this we are going to use stickers. What are stickers? These are a set a graphics that contain premade navigation buttons, menus, icons and everything you need for that kind of stuff. So go ahead and download the sticker sheet from Google.
Resources– Sticker sheets & icons
This sticker sheet will save you a lot of time creating those little graphics that you'd rather not spend too much time on. Another great thing about using the sticker sheet is everything will snap onto a grid, so everything will be easy to align and organize.
So at this point you are ready to integrate your own graphics. Work with your sticker sheet and add your personal touches. Make it beautiful and sassy just like my dad.
Step 3- Prototype
A prototype is a demonstration of how your app will work. This is created with software on your computer but everything can function on your Android device. This is not the same as developing the app. This is more like creating an interactive slideshow that can take advantage of all of your phones functions. Now if you're thinking that you will have to shell out some cash for a prototyping program, push that thought out of your head and vomit it out of your mouth. Papa Google has gone and adopted some companies that make fantastic prototyping software and now they're available to us for free. You're going to use some software called Pixate.
What it is:
A visual prototyping platform that allows designers to create sophisticated, fluid mobile prototypes that run natively on iOS and Android devices.
What it’s best for:
Creating complete app prototypes or crafting carefully choreographed interactions that look and feel completely real, and sharing them so entire product teams or clients can experience them right on their device.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Pixate
Alright so your Prototype is going to be a separate thing from your finished graphical design from step 2. Both of these will be very helpful to share your idea with a developer. These will also be needed if you are doing something like kickstarter to get your app funded. People will feel much more comfortable donating if they can see a live working prototype on a phone.
Alright now you know how to design your own Android app. Getting it developed is up to you. For more complex apps you'll want to look at hiring a company, for simple apps you could try sites like freelancer, and for really simple apps you could always develop it yourself. I hope this guide has helped point you in the right direction!
The End.
Designed to inspire more interactions by bringing users a convenient tap-to-use solution, Quick Apps offer the same experience as native apps but require much less memory space
Remember the time when you had to download an app just to use it that one time to try out the new pizza place in your neighbourhood, before realising that it was a disappointing experience? Or when you had to wait a long time for an app to be updated before you can enjoy new functions that your friends are already using? How about when you were made to download an app which you’d only use once a month to pay for your mobile phone credits, or worse, not sure when you would use the app again because you were on an extended year-end vacation and had to top up credits for data roaming?
With Huawei Quick Apps, you can say goodbye to those notifications that pop up to remind you to delete certain apps because you haven’t used them for months. The raison d'être for Huawei Quick Apps – bring an unprecedented level of convenience, yet at the same time address the diverse needs of Huawei device users in the 5G era.
So what are Quick Apps?
{

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
In short, they are apps you can use on-the-fly; no installation needed. With Quick Apps, Huawei users worldwide can enjoy the smooth interaction and beautiful interfaces of the native app experience without having to download these apps.
Not only does it save you from busting your data roaming allowance trying to download a local taxi booking app while on vacation, Quick Apps also save the memory space on your Huawei smartphone.
Written with only 1/5 amount of codes as compared to that of native apps, you can accommodate more than 2,000 Quick Apps with just 1GB of space. What’s more, because of how lightweight Quick Apps are, they are more responsive, and they are automatically updated, offering an excellent Huawei experience that’s second to none.
How to access Quick Apps?
There are several ways you can choose to access available Quick Apps. The best way is to add Quick App Centre to the home screen of your Huawei smartphone and directly activate it with a single touch going forward.
Go to “AppGallery” on your home screen.
In the search box at the top of the screen, type “Quick App Centre”, then click “Open”.
On the top right-hand corner of the Quick App Centre screen, you’d see a “Settings” icon. Click on that icon.
Select the option “Add to home screen”. You’ll see a pop-up notification which says, “Shortcut for Quick App Centre created on your home screen”. Voila!
Alternatively, you can open AppGallery and search for “Quick App Centre”. Once you do that, you can then search for the Quick App you want. After using the Quick App, you can even choose to leave it as a desktop icon on the main screen of your Huawei smartphone for added convenience.
What Quick Apps are available?
As of January 2020, there are over 1,700 quick apps available on-shelf worldwide. These Quick Apps are by no means inferior in any shape or form as compared to native apps; they support all HTML5 apps and HTML5 games, covering 90% of apps and games categories.
The growing list of renowned global-brand Quick Apps includes the following – covering food delivery, banking & bills management, TV & movie digital services – to name just a few.
Talabat: Get access to over thousands of delivery restaurants in Middle East straight from your smartphone.
NAVITIME: Take advantage of the complex subways and buses in Japan for the first time to ride.
Etihad Airways: Flight bookings, online check-ins and more from the second-largest airline and the flag carrier of the UAE.
2048 Charm: Best puzzle game to kill time while waiting for the dentist.
What’s next for Quick Apps?
The arrival of Quick Apps comes as part of Huawei’s continued commitment to optimising user experience, efficiency and innovation. In line with Huawei’s “1+8+N” strategy, Quick Apps provide users with an innovative all-scenario experience. Quick Apps support different screen sizes such as with smart wearables, mobile phones, tablets and smart screens.
Today, a range of both local and global Quick Apps are being rolled out on an ongoing basis. If you’re not seeing your favourite apps available as a Quick App yet, do ***stay tune for in time to come, they will be!

you can ask anything you want to know about thier HMS or apps development and get answers there , and loads of tips for optimization and monitazation of your apps.
In computer graphics, material is a property that is added to a 3D model and defines how it interacts with light. A material model and a set of control parameters define the object surface. The figures below illustrate the effect of applying materials.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",

After adding different textures, the scene on the right looks far more realistic, and this is why they have become widely adopted in gaming, architecture, design, and many other sectors.
That is not to say creating and applying materials is a straightforward process. Creating texture maps can be time-consuming and expensive.
Three solutions are available for such issues.
First, utilize a deep learning network to generate physically based rendering (PBR) texture maps with ease, for creating premium materials efficiently.
Second, share texture maps across different projects and renderers, and standardize the experience and material creation specifications of technical artists into data that complies with PBR standards.
Third, leverage the material generation capability of HMS Core 3D Modeling Kit to build up a vast library of materials. Such a library will provide open access to a wealth of texture maps, saving time and effort.
Let's check out the last solution in detail.
Material Generation
In just a click, this capability converts RGB images into five PBR texture maps — diffuse map, normal map, specular map, roughness map, and height map. The capability supports a range of materials, ranging from concrete, marble, rock, gravel, brick, gypsum, clay, metal, wood, bark, leather, fabric, paint, plastic, and synthetic material, and can output texture maps with a resolution of 1K to 8K.
Material Library: Vast, Hi-Res, and Convenient
3D Modeling Kit offers a rich and efficient material library on a solid basis of its powerful material generation capability. This library not only supports filtering of materials by application scenario and type, as well as providing PBR texture maps, but also allows materials to be queried, previewed, and downloaded.
To access this library, enable 3D Modeling Kit in HUAWEI AppGallery Connect: go to My projects, select the desired project and app, click Manage APIs, and toggle on the switch for 3D Modeling Kit. Then, go to Build > 3D Modeling Kit and click Material library.
1. Abundant materials on hand
The library homepage provides search and filter functions, allowing you to easily find the material you want. Simply enter a material name into the search box and then click Search to get it.
You can also add filters (resolution and application scenario) to obtain the desired materials.
Want to sort query results? The library allows you to sort them by default order, upload time, or previews.
2. Previewing 1K to 4K texture maps
Many 3D models, such as walls, buildings, and wooden objects, require materials to display their structures and expected effects. In the image below, the rendered model looks much more vivid after hi-res texture maps are applied to it.
Click an image for a material in the library to preview how this material appears on a sphere, cube, or flat plane. All the three models can be rotated 360°, showing every detail of the material.
3. Archiving a collection of downloadable materials
The library has a collection of 32,066 materials classified into 16 types. To download a material, just click Download Now in the lower right corner of the preview window, and a ZIP package containing JPG texture maps will be downloaded. The texture maps can be used directly. The library will be updated regularly to satisfy developer needs.
For more information about the library, check out here.
