[Q] Internal memory partly unavailable, how come? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm on Omega ROM V24 XWLSW (4.1.2) and I have recently encountered a weird and annoying problem. At first, I noticed that Instagram couldn't refresh its feed and trying to load videos made it crash, then I saw Facebook was refreshing feed, but not loading pictures. I didn't know what caused this and I thought it was app-related, but then I saw the gallery thumbnails appearing as simply grey squares, and when trying to load a picture it loads it with "lag" (imagine the picture divided to 16 squares, and each square loads after another...). Then I realised it had to do with the internal memory.
Every time I reboot it's back to normal, but after a period of time (which I can't really say is constant) the internal memory is back on "half-sleep". I can still access it with file explorers and I can still view pictures on it via gallery (read above), but apps like Instagram/Facebook/WhatsApp can't use it (I can't download photos). Maybe it becomes read-only? I don't know. When I connect the phone to my computer with the USB function in "Settings" it has to reload the internal memory and the SD card so it also timely resolves the problem.
I have no idea what causes this and I'm asking here for any suggestions you guys might have before I factory reset or whatever.
Thanks in advance!

Clock(process com.tapntap.clock2 not working

Anybody else have a problem that the built in clock app has stopped working?
I get this message:
The Application Clock (process com.tapntap.clock2) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I like that clock.
EDIT: All of my applications started failing one by one.
Forced Closes on Weather, Clock, Photos etc.
Sometimes with the USB plugged in it would see all the files on the internal SD card. Other times it would say the SD card was empty.
Sometimes with the USB unplugged ES File system would see the internal SD card as empty.
Sometimes it would see the files and the sample photos I downloaded and sometimes it would not.
This all started for no apparent reason at around 5:00 PM today.
I deleated all my downloaded files and I had to do a factory reset and lose all my data.
After that reboot, everything is working again for now. I bet others will have problems after the last VS upgrade to 3389.
I had exactly the same thing
Follow the instructions "[FAQ] Why are so many applications randomly force closing"
Cured it
Just a thought. One reset was enough for me. I put all gTab bookmarks into a very straight-forward simple HTML page that is now my gTablet homepage. If I bookmark a site on the gTablet, I soon add it to the HTML page. (I also do that for all my bookmarks collected over the years.) The pages take very liitle within the free space provided by my ISP. And I swept all the apk files off to a single directory on my laptop and additionally backed that directory to an external drive. Advantages? I never have to redo bookmarks or go looking for install files. I can change tablets in just a few minutes. Hope that helps.

You can find , when you go on google.com
Had the same problem and Dashboard will just say "Please wait" and will not respond. A "factory reset" helped me to fix this issue...

[Q] Razr XT910 constantlylosing photos

I'm having a nasty problem with my Razr XT910 where it is randomly losing my photos taken with the cam. I can take a pic and it shows up in the upper corner as usual. If I click on it it switches to the pic viewer as it should and shows the pic, but often when I open the gallery later, it will show thumbnails for my pics but if I click on one it is blank. If I swipe back a whole bunch of times it will eventually find and display an old pic, then for some reason when I swipe forward again it will show most of the ones that were missing a moment ago, but if I tap on them it wont bring up the menu to share, etc. If I plug my phone into my pc to try and back up my pics, it then deletes all of them before I can transfer anything. I am using the stock camera app and it is set to store pics to the SD card.
I have lost all my pictures several times now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Now that is a weird problem, could be a problem with your sd card.
Try set it to store in internal memory and see if it has the same problem/
I remember I brought a fake mini sd and once it reached the real capacity, the pics are always blank...but the thumbnails show up coz it is stored near the start of the sd card.

[Q] Media Storage acting up abnormally on stock ROM

A few days ago while I was on ICS 4.0 on my SGS3 (can't remember whether 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 - international stock ROM either way), I noticed that my phone was not displaying pictures correctly. For example, I took a picture with my camera and it automatically saved it to my SD card, after which it would say the picture cannot be opened. I then transferred my photos to the internal memory as I felt my SD card was getting corrupted, however the music on it still worked fine. Then I noticed a huge increase in battery usage, mostly consumed by the 'Media Storage' application (60-70%). I then updated my phone to JB 4.1.2, and my pictures would not show up at all (music was alright). After some research I found out that there could be a faulty Media Storage app, but it only mentioned the rooted ROM version for people wanting JB earlier than the release date. I did what the instructions I found told me and cleared the data on the Media Storage app (around 4 GB). This solved the problem momentarily but the data keeps going up and using the battery. Now I'm stuck with the Media Storage disabled since I need my battery, however it's annoying to hear a full ringtone for a simple notification, not to mention I want to listen to my music.
What I want to know is, is it a problem of a faulty SD card, corrupted (music) files, or a faulty Media Storage app?
I haven't tried removing the SD card and leaving it to see if it still consumes battery but I just formatted it and am looking to see what happens.
With the Media Storage off, there have been HUGE improvements on battery life! Wow.

You could try formatting your SD card, if this doesn't work it may be the case that your SD card has bad sectors.
If you want to know wether that is the case, you can try this:
Click Start and then Run. Type cmd and then click OK. Type the following:
chkdsk [sd card drive letter] /r
That will scan for bad sectors on the card and repair any found.
on the PC, that is

Problem with storage?

Hi,
Lately I've been having problems with my SGSIII.
Problem started while I was on CM10.2 stable.
At one point (after a few days), every time I tried to download a photo using any browser, the download would be unsuccessful (gets to 100% downloading, then error's out saying "Download unsuccessful.").
I tried multiple browsers but didn't help. Some of them said the SD card is inaccessible, but I have no external SD card (had it before, but removed it).
Also, I noticed that the photos I took wouldn't show up in the gallery (would not load thumbnails or show photos), and every new photo I would take would not appear listed.
So I thought that was a CM10.2 bug, and exchanged it with a stock based ROM (NeatROM 6.1), but the problems persisted, except now it shows old photos in the gallery, but every time I would take a new photo the Camera app would freeze.
Transferring files from a PC has no problems, and the Internal Storage shows 3.5 GB of free space.
I tried clearing the data of Gallery app, Browser, tried wiping cache/data/dalvik, fixing permissions over CWM, but nothing helped.
Any suggestion what could cause this problem and how could I fix it?
I checked the forums and googled the problem, but haven't found a solution.
Thanks!

Tried a couple of other things and it didn't work, so I had to resort to reflashing stock firmware. Reflash managed to fix the problem, but too bad I didn't manage to find the culprit of the problem

[Q] Out of space

Hi everyone! So, I've been having a bit of an issue with my Galaxy S3 lately (and by lately, I mean it's been bothering me for the past few months, but until today I've been able to use my phone )
My phone is giving me an out of space message, and no matter what I do, I can't seem to fix it. When it first started coming up, it was a bit annoying, but today, my phone seems to have run out of so much space, it can't receive messages, take screenshots (even though it should be stored onto my SD card), or even use the Facebook app without it erroring.
I can't upload a screenshot to here (since my phone won't even let me take the screenshot ), but when I go to the storage settings, my phone says I don't have enough internal memory. It says I have 11.25GB total, and I'm using 1.85GB for applications, 5.27MB for pictures and videos, 34.30MB for audio, 14.14MB for downloads and 236MB for misc files. Somehow that means my 11.25GB space is all used up, so I might have to go back to school for maths, because something doesn't add up . It also says I have 4.30GB free space on my SD card, but that's not causing the problem (I hope)
I've searched for other problems like this, and all of them are for rooted phones, which doesn't help me because my S3 isn't rooted. Also, all of the problems I saw were when people tried installing an app and got the "out of space" error on Google Play store, and they had to delete the app's .odex file, which unfortunately doesn't help me
I appreciate any help anyone has ! Really hoping to be able to use my phone again
