[Q] Cannot send MMS messages (pictures or videos) Please help - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I rooted my phone using odin. I did not flash any custom roms or anything. Just gave the phone root access so I could use apps that required root.
my software version is 4.4.2
I noticed after I rooted I cannot send picture messages or videos.
BUT
I have a airave device at home because I live in a dead zone. When I'm at home connected to my airave, I can send MMS pictures and videos with zero problem. So I'm assuming it has nothing to do with rooting my device, but I don't know.
I tried this.....
I've confirmed that this method works on ICS (4.0.4), Jellybean (4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.2, 4.3) , and KitKat ( 4.4.2) . Tested and working on Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2, and Note 3.
1a) Download this working Sprint APN xml file: https://www.box.com/s/40x5ac2c6u0ckzfz59ig (click on download button at the top)
OR
1b) For Boost, download this xml file: https://www.box.com/s/o9folfrq00ee9p2qj5pv (click on download button at the top)
OR
1c) For Virgin Mobile, download this xml file: https://www.box.com/s/9itl21drpp84enqeszc9 (click on download button at the top)
2) Download and install "APN Backup & Restore" from the Google Play Store to your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...pRestore&hl=en
3) Convert the "APN Backup & Restore" into a system app by either using Titanium Backup, or simply use Root Explorer/ES File Explorer (root enable it) to move the APK from /data/app to /system/app. For KitKat, move it to /system/priv-app.
4) Reboot the phone.
5) Launch the app, click on menu, then click on "Disable ICS Check".
6) In the main app menu, click on "Backup APNs". This will create a directory called "ApnBackupRestore" in your /mnt/sdcard.
7) Copy the xml file from step 1 to the /mnt/sdcard/ApnBackupRestore folder.
8) Go back to the main app menu, click on "Delete APNs" and confirm it.
9) Go back to the main app menu, click on "Restore APNs".
10) Choose the file you downloaded from step 1 and confirm it.
11) Reboot your phone.
12) Done.
When I get to step 6 I get an error. It tells me to enter a name for the backup file so I select what it has by default "apns-201 40928102855.xml"
when I press ok, I get this...

Can anyone please help me? I've even tried method 2 from this topic...

and still no good

The dropbox link isn' working and I tried to edit my post with a new link but it won't let me. So here is the link for the error

I'm not sure you are moving in the right direction. I would do a factory reset, backup your data first !!! This will unroot your device, now see if you get the ability to send and receive pics and data back. If so try rooting the device with a different method. There currently three that work well, Chainfires C-F autoroot here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423 next is Towel root here is the link https://towelroot.com/ finally you can use SuperSu here is the link http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/ .
The reason I say this is because I received pics from my daughter today . She has a stock rooted NC5 note 3 running on a sprint airwave. However, that thing is temper mental it quits all the time. Sometimes she has to get in the car and find a signal.

Now I have titanium backup but that only works with rooted devices. This will be a problem once I un-root my phone how do I back up my apps without being rooted.
Also I discovered that you can't get updates after rooting. after you un-root can you get updates? I would like to get them if I could.
also factory reset doesn't un-root does it? I read that it doesn't. Can someone clear this up for me?

well I un rooted it and now I can send MMS pics and videos. I wonder why rooting caused that issue? I didn't flash a custom rom on it.
btw, is there anyway I can remove that nasty knox binary counter? it's 0x1 now...

Rooting should not have caused this. I have rooted my phone enough times that I lost track and have not seen this.
As far as Knox counter, once you root and Knox is 0x1, you're SOL; no known way to revert counter as of yet.

hmm oh well. if worst comes to worst, I'll nuke the motehrboard if I have to. phone seems to work fine though.

Using the SHV-E160L in Canada [ICS][Root][CWM][SMS]

I'm making this guide for anyone whose purchased a Korean Galaxy Note and have had a hell of a time getting it to work properly.
In Canada, the Note will only work with Rogers or Fido due to frequency and compatibility issues. Even other networks that support the Note will not work with a Korean Galaxy Note and flashing the telus modems found in other threads has not worked for me, causing the phone to get stuck in a restart loop.
First, upgrading to ICS:
Download the UF13 stock E160L firmware from this website:
http://pspmaster.tistory.com/180
For those with SHV-E160 S and K phones, stock firmwares can also be found on this website with a bit of searching
Flashing:
Put the Korean Note into download mode by holding down the volume down button + home button + power button
- The Note will then display a tonne of Korean text on-screen, press the volume up button to actually enter the download mode
Then run Odin in administrator mode (not really sure if it makes a difference but might as well), make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only checked items, click the PDA button and select the firmware file
Then click start and wait till the phone reboots, the loading screen will have a pink U+ logo and it may take some time.
Once it has booted, insert your microSIM card (yeah for some reason it uses a microSIM, other models don't seem to, wtf Korea?) and let it connect to the network. Once it connects you're good.
Rooting:
(courtesy of locomaniac, his thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671987)
Download these 4 files:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u0rz0tuioj3irhz/cwm-160l-update.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds3sp7bulu54ckg/samsungE160recovery.tar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwuadwg4bx7wjro/Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/si43ikqpcdbzpod/Tegrak.rec.tar
Put the cwm-update160l-update.zip and the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip onto your external SD card
Then shut off the phone and put it into download mode once again (vol down + home + power)
Once it's in download mode, flash the Tegrak.rec.tar in the same fashion as you did with the UF13 stock ROM, it will overwrite the recovery partition of your phone and your phone will then reset
Power down the phone once again and get it back into download mode, this time you'll flash the samsungE160recovery.tar which will install Clockworkmod Recovery into the recovery partition (not sure why you need the Tegrak recovery as well other than its ability to root the phone but do it anyways)
- Please note, if you only want root and not Clockworkmod Recovery which in my opinion, is stupid, do not flash the samsungE160recovery.tar, just go to http://pspmaster.tistory.com/181 and download the two files that correspond to your model, it does indeed have the E160S and E160K kernels as well. Copy the .zip file into your external SD card, then Flash the .tar file using ODIN then boot into recovery by holding the volume up + volume down + power button until the samsung logo appears at which point you'll have to release the buttons. It will boot into Tegrak recovery, select install from .zip, select the .zip file you downloaded and then restart the phone. Once restarted, you'll have to download Tegrak from the Google play store and open the app and select the root my phone option at which point your phone should have root access. Then download superuser from the Google play store and bam you're golden.
For those of you who want CWM Recovery, once the ODIN flash of samsungE160recovery.tar is done, it will reboot. Shut down the phone, then hold down the volume up and volume down buttons with the power button, let go of them all once the samsung logo appears to boot the phone into recovery mode. It will now be CWM Recovery rather than the Tegrak recovery, select install from zip and select cwm-160l-update.zip and install it. Once installed, you will need to select the reboot recovery option (might be under advanced menu, not sure). Or just power down the phone and reboot into recovery. Once it's in, you'll notice that CWM Recovery has been updated, but the menu options still look the same. Familiarity is good. Now choose install from zip and select the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip file and install that.
Once you're done, reboot the phone and you will now have root access.
Fixing the SMS system:
(instructions courtesy of the crazy Chinese developers over at koxda http://koxda.com/thread-14201-1-1.html)
For some reason, Korea has a different messaging system than anywhere else in the world causing messages to send properly only if you're using a third party app like goSMS, and labeling everything you receive as from an unknown number. Obviously, this is ridiculous, so to fix that, you'll need the root access you just obtained as well as Root Explorer (File Manager), an app you can purchase off Google play or pirate with Mobilism. It's a wonderful app that will let you do anything you want to any file you want.
You'll also need mms.apk which is basically the international version of the messaging system from here:
http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/360753/Mms-apk.html
Copy this file to your SD Card
Now you'll want to open Root Explorer, and open the "system" folder then the "app" folder. Here, find 6 files that begin with SEC-MMS and delete them, you may have to press the mount r/w button at the top to get read write permission but do so and you'll be able to delete the files. Then, copy the mms.apk using root explorer from your external SD card into the system/app folder.
Once you're done, close everything and restart your phone.
Once it restarts, you'll notice that Android will attempt to upgrade something, that something is basically the phone installing the mms.apk for you and it will now appear in the applications list. Open the mms.apk, press the menu touch key and go to settings. Here, you need to change the text input method to unicode and then set the message centre number to +15149931123 for Fido, or +17057969300 for Rogers (can also try +17057969500). Make sure to type in that plus sign or it will not work properly.
*Note the messaging program may crash occasionally, keep trying and it should work, once you're done you'll be replacing the normal messaging system which has become unstable with something else.
That something else is the Handcent SMS app which you can download off Google play for free. Install it, then open the app, go to settings, application settings and press the Default Messaging application button, select All (SMS&MMS). Then press back, click notification settings and uncheck the Enable popup option.
AAAANNND YOU'RE DONE
If you have other Korean Note specific problems like the lack of secret menu options to repair your touch keys (which I had, goddamn you Samsung), send me a pm and I'll make another thread on how to fix it, it involves flashing temporary firmware that I really don't have the bandwidth to upload at the moment.
Mine is 160s and I just want CWM. But I see that the file is for 160L. Are you sure if its working for others than 160L?

I'd suggest flashing the tegrak recovery file for the E160S followed by the samsung160recovery, which should give you CWM at which point you can update CWM and root the phone. However, I have no idea if it'll work, so make sure to have a stock ROM on hand in case things go south for you.

Thanks man! Works for my E160K. Just one comment - looks like also you should have valid MSISDN on your SIM card in order to have it working.
You can check is it so or not in "Settings"=>"Phone Identity" - "Phone number" filed should show your actual nuber with "+" and all prefixes. If it's says "unknown" (and it's easily can) - you should write a correct number first on SIM card using "My phone number" application from market (little chance to work, btw), or other phone (Android-based device with CyanogenMod 7.x, Iphone or lots of SE phones can help).

Excellent point, I remember reading this on the Koxda forum, but I didn't bump into this particular problem myself. For my phone number, the information was under settings --> about phone --> status
I remember reading that the easiest fix was actually borrowing an iphone and with its prevalence these days, it should be easy to find someone who'll lend it for a few minutes. Also, since the e160L has a microsim, it should fit into an iphone 4 without any hassle
good job... man

Thanks to the OP, I replaced the MMS app on my E160L (YAY!).
OK, I found an iPhone that let me 'write' my phone number to the SIM card. It's all done. BUT I can't send an sms with the newly installed stock MMS.apk. Actually, seems like I can send short messages: 70 characters and under using stock but anything longer fails. This seems to have to do with the original Korean models not being able to send anything more than 70 or 80 characters?
The caller ID issue is resolved though. I set the SMSC via the settings as well as via the secret menu accessed via typing 319 712 358 and then the password 0821.
Handcent works for sending and receiving. But I'd also like the stock messing app to work too!
Short of going back to the Telco to ask if they can fix it, anyone have any other suggestions?

Well, according to the original poster in koxda this is the best we've got now. you can completely ignore your stock, and replace it with handcent making it the default app through its options.

Is anyone able to send a SMS with more than 160 characters. For me, when it becomes ''2 messages'' (more than 160 characters) the message fails. Does this happen to everyone?

It's an inherent issue with Korean versions of the Note. The only way to get around this is to use the Handcent app. :-(
Handcent
Yes, I know...
The thing is I'm using Handcent... And still can't send more than 160 characters with it... Always fail.

the best work around here is to grab both messaging.apk and mms.apk from the international version GNote. then replace the stock .apks in the \system\app\ folder. same thing i did with my su-660.
can anybody please post those two system apk's please? thanks.

Unfortunately, this 70 character limit is coded into the Korean operating system and I haven't found a way to get past it... yet. The Chinese appear to be cooking up a custom ROM that uses the American operating system as its base which could get around that SMS character limit, will update when I succeed in getting it to work on my phone.

[ROM] Knox Free KK (I9200XXUDNE4)

It took nearly 24 hours to upload due to my dreadful internet connection but here it is, the latest Android version for the galaxy Mega I9200 AKA Kit Kat I9200XXUDNE4, repacked with a full Knox free bootloader.:good:
DISCLAIMER
I'm not responsible for anything, as usual procede only if you know what you do, and make a backup beforehands in case things go out of control.
This said since this ROM is Knox free you will be able to get back to 4.2.2 or to whatever ROM you want in case you don't like Kit Kat.
IMPORTANT
You can flash this ROM ONLY if you come from a non Knox Rom.
It means that if you were on a ROM that had Knox, like the latest 4.2.2 versions, you can't flash this ROM and in that case you'll have to go for the regular 4.4.2 Knox version available at sammobile.
BEFORE TO FLASH
Get a custom recovery, cuz this ROM comes without any recovery.
Why?
Because at the time I was testing it I kept my custom recovery to see if I could reuse it with Kit Kat, and since it worked, and since I don't want to loose again 24 hours to upload an other ROM with a recovery, you'll have to go like this.
There are plenty of custom recoveries on the forum, as for me I use that one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415294
but you can use any one you like, it doesn't matter as long as it has been installed BEFORE to flash Kit Kat.
Edit
If for some reasons you want to stick to stock recovery head to post #5, I've attached it there with some instructions.
THE FLASH
Download the ROM, unrar it and you'll get a tar.md5 file.
Open ODIN 3.04, put the file in the PDA section.
On your phone, enter download mode (press volume down and start at the same time), then connect it to your computer.
Once it has been recognized by Odin (it gets blue on the left upper case) start the flash.
It will take approx 5 mns before it reboots, that's it.
If everything goes ok it will reboot twice and then it will enter the set up wizard.
It could be that some app forces close and that it reboots one more time, in that case you'll have to enter recovery and format /data (and since you have a custom recovery you can do so without erasing your sd card contents).
ROOT
Easy, download the latest SuperSU_1.94.zip from the master chainfire, flash it from recovery, reboot, voila.
REMOVING THE LAST KNOX TRACES:
This has to be done manually (I could have done it and repacked/uploaded a new pre rooted ROM with everything done but sorry, my connection is too slow )
There are some Knox apps in the /system/app folder and in the system/priv-app folder:
-the ones that have Knox in their name are easy to guess;
-one is called KLMSAgent and should be deleted as well, and so too ContainerAgent.apk, ContainerAgent.odex, ContainerEventsRelayManager.apk and ContainerEventsRelayManager.odex.
In the /system/lib folder delete libknoxdrawglfunction.so.
Delete completely the system/preloadedkiosk folder and the system/preloadedsso folder.
In data/data delete the com.sec.knox.seandroid folder and the com.sec.knox.store, and the other com.sec.knox whatever folders there are.
Enjoy!!!:silly:
Stay tuned, in the coming days I will put some mods here...
I already made a deodexed version but I don't think I will upload it since it takes too long (24 hours again), so if anyone with a better connection feels like doing it he or she is welcome!

Yep, I have to be serious:cyclops: so here it is, I packed a stock recovery in case someone needs it for some reason (s).
It took (only) 15 mns to upload (not bad for a 10 mb file )...
Download the file, open Odin 3.04, put the file in PDA, flash, now you have KK's stock recovery, boooooo:laugh:
http://d-h.st/PGb
@bnb25
nope, you can't flash the ROM from recovery.
If some people are interested I can upload the deodexed version in the coming days when I have time, unless someone else does it before
I flashed somr stock rooted Rom awhile ago on the gf's phone. I been waiting on this update b4 doing anything. The phone acts up. Performance issues. She keeps ot close to full. Moving to sdcard doesn't work anymore. (That broke b4 filling the phone up. But didn't know that when we bought a 16gb sdcard.) So....thus has knox removed. You mentioned stock recovery as an option. You mean the stock kitkat recovery for the phone? Meaning that will introduce knox if you choose it? And if you do choose stock recovery with knox it can be rooted right? Just saying cause usually when first comes out it takes a lil time for someone to root it.

so i flash again with ODIN 3.04, and it keep restarting again..
i have wipe data and cache+dalvik, i use twrp recovery.
can you troubleshoot this problem?
thank you :good:
sorry for my bad english...
Works fine for me. I had latest official 4.2.2 rom; I then flash a custom recovery and a rooted rom before I flash this rom via odin. After flashing this rom, I wiped it factory reset. All is well for me. 24hrs now. Thumbs up me general.....

@ninja_unmatched:
the recovery I attached is the stock KK recovery, and AFAIK it doesn't have Knox in it. About rooting a Knox cursed ROM, some people say it's easy but I don't have any personal experience on that matter.
But anyway, why don't you want to use a custom recovery?
I kept the CWM I had on 4.2.2, and after I upgraded to 4.4.2 it took me 2 minutes to root with Chainfire's SuperSu_1.94.zip...
So now I'm on Knox free KK, with custom recovery and root.
@congquer:
do a full factory reset and see if it helps.
@fpage:
nice to read that it works fine for you!:good:

works like a charm, i've installed via odin, but lost root for some reason
Well the girl is like any other nooby internet user. She knows enough to get it infected over and over....lol. Knox actually helps a lil with that. I used to use my phone (Note 3) to check questionable sites out for clients. Knox would do its pop ups alerting me to there being something going on that I do not want. It has actually helped....weird thing sort of. Now of course it doesn't do that anymore but for her......it might lower my headaches if you know what I mean?
But...no I'm about to try it out now anyways after I backup her phone.

This step right here causes the same boot loop mentioned. An app forces closes just like you said. soon as you format /data after a reboot it goes into a boot loop. I am also using TWRP 2.7
You have to clear cache not data. Even with that alot of apps just force close.

Well it didn't work for me. And the supersu only caused freezing then reboot. I just went and flashed stock. Maybe I'll root it later. The process also messed with the sdcard. Made it unreadable. So I used an app (Called Photorec) to recover some of the files from the 16gb sdcard she has.

whenever I want to delete knox from system/app, it always failed to delete.
I wonder why?
@ninja_unmatched:
your girl seems to be like mine, willy to use the phone but messing it all the time, and then calling her man to fix it:cyclops:.
But you are worse tham me cuz you use her phone as a guinea pig!
The problem with SuperSu is that at first you can't install it a a system app.
In order to fix this you'll need either twrp recovery or aroma file manager ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108 ) and do as follows:
-download SuperSu zip,
-extract the app from the zip but keep the zip intact,
-flash the SuperSu zip,
-do not reboot but go to your file system while still in recovery, either from the twrp menu or by flashing the aroma file manager file,
-delete SuperSu from the system/app folder,
-reboot,
-install the SuperSu apk manually as you would with any apk.
Now you are rooted, and your SuperSu being on your data/app folder it doesn't force close anymore.
Later you can convert SuperSu into a system app from the apk's settings.
But this force close is a problem on KK, cuz everytime an app FC (not only SuperSu) the phone reboots, pretty annoying and definitely a deal breaker for me.
The messing with the files is another problem, it's because somehow KK uses another format than JB. But this one is easy to overcome, just connect your phone to your computer and copy the files to it, or you can copy them from recovery/aroma file manager (that's what I did, at first I thought it was gone but nope, it's just a format stoy) to anywhere on your phone.
@fpage:
I'm happy for you if everything works:good:

Are you rooted? Sorry if the question sounds obvious, but if you are then deleting the Knox apks shouldn't be a problem.
Otherwise if it doesn't work, use aroma file manager (see above, and don't forget to push thanks for @amarullz our dev from Bandung!) and delete the Knox stuff from within recovery.
That said I went back to 4.2.2, this KK is plagued with bugs and I don't like the new multi windows implementation, so until they make a more stable version and until I find out whether I can implement some of JB's multi windows functions in it or not I'll stick to 4.2.2...
I'll make soon a thread about specific KK's bugs, hopefully sammy will listen but don't hold your breath
A guinea pig....lol. yeah. Only thing I ever did was flash a stock 4.2.2 rooted Rom. For wifi tethering purposes. It was fine for awhile. She starts complaining about it....I find she filled the thing up. Apps, apps, apps, mad games. I move some of the apps to the 8gb card. That helped. Later she fills it up again. I get a 16gb card and then find out it won't move anything to the card. Broke that somewhere after the 8gb card move. She goes on facebook and clicks on those questionable site posts and jave you sign up while giving them permission to post on your profile and all sorts if sites I find are questionable. That and apps from blackmart and from that site that offers hacked android games/apps.
So far now she seems fine on the stock official 4.4.2. It has a few widgets and apps in Russian. I've seen a few bugs that clear up on their own.
1. The lock screen took a bit to update. (What I mean is this. I know when playing music will say Milk it will show also on the lock screen. It wasn't doing that. Had to reboot to get that going.)
2. There is an app called Wish. It allows you to send something you think another person would be interested in that also has wish. That feature doesn't work to well. You can choose facebook or google+. FB no work at all. I think that is some other reason for that one. Google+ works but only if you choose the regular browser. Through chrome the page doesn't pop up woth the option to use the app to open the link.
And generally I've just run into these lil quarks that eventually just start working. Or partially work enough to get by.

Yes, my device is rooted. I've tried root browser, root explorer and soon. but it ends with the same result. I wonder why.
And my device also keep restarting every 10 minutes. Is it a bug?
@ninja_unmatched:
I can't tell about this wish.apk and widgets, at the time I was still on 4.4.2 I had stripped the Rom down to only about 20 system apps.
I allways do this on my ROMs cuz I don't like stock apps, I rather uninstall all that stuff and replace it by third part apps that are easier to manage and not so much on the spying/bloatware side...
@serpentlord:
what happens is probably that you have an app that forces closes, and this is what makes the phone reboot. I had the same problem and in my case it was youtube, in your case it could be any other app.
Just start your phone and keep an eye on it until it says "sorry app whatever has closed". Then if it reboots you know from wish app it comes and you can uninstall it and/or replace it with another app or another version from the same app.

I'll Add Some Of My Findings Here As Well...
Camera sounds annoy me and I couldn't find any tweak, app, or anything to disable them on the LG's Camera, so I figured it out myself. I have wrote a guide and included a .zip with the files you need to switch.
- How to disable your LG Camera Sounds -
Found by high247 of XDA-Developers for the Virgin Mobile LG Tribute LG660.
-# 01. You are going to need to be ROOTED on your phone and have a Root Explorer. I personally use Root Browser from the Play Store.
And you'll need the .ogg files from this .zip file.
I've you are not ROOTED please check Unjustified Dev's guide here on how to do so.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
-# 02. First move the .ogg files from this .zip to your phones SDcard.
cam_snap_0.ogg
camera_click.ogg
camstart.ogg
camstop.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
(I've included backups of all the orginal .ogg's in Backup-ogg in the .zip. Just delete the .bak off the end and they are the orginal files in case you want to switch back.)
-# 03. Ok now on to disableing the sounds on your phones Camera (For whatever reasons you might what to do so. For me, they just annoy me)
Open your Root Explorer and go to your SDcard and multi-copy the .ogg's you put there.
Now navigate to System folder, click that,
now locate the Media folder, click that,
now locate the Audio folder, click that,
now locate the UI folder, click that, then once inside the UI folder click PASTE to copy the files there. It might be useful to delete the old ones before hand.
-# 04. Almost done, now you have to change the to .ogg file permissions to 0644 rw-r--r--
(If your not good with permissions, when you select permissions just make sure Read is checked in every box and Write is only checked on Owner, everything else unchecked.)
-# 05. ALL DONE. No need to reboot or anything, just go to your Camera and see that the annoying sounds are gone.
ENJOY!

We need more detailed information to help, how did you get stuck for one?
I got the update for my Tribute and like a idiot I tried to install it but it just keeps booting into TWRP, I wiped the phone and than I restored a backup from my SD card that I had but it still reboots to TWRP, the backup installed successfully but it just keeps booting to TWRP, any ideas how to fix this? The backup has the TWRP recovery and root. I also tied the new rom and it still boots to TWRP.
What to Change that ugly color on your default LG Messaging App?
You need to install Xposed Framework on your rooted LS660/F60
1. Here is the Xposed Framework installer you need for G3 Tweakbox to work: http://dl.xposed.info/latest.apk
2. Now download G3 Tweakbox from the Play Store and install it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...weaksbox&hl=en
3. Open Xposed Framework installer make sure the Xposed Framework is installed up to date and and then make sure you check the module for G3 Tweakbox and reboot your device before anything will work.
4. Now open G3 Tweakbox app, go to Messaging, scroll all the way to the bottom and you can change the color.
5. After you make changes Reboot your phone for them to take full effect. My messaging app now is Black.
And in this post I show what else I found that worked with G3 Tweakbox on the LS660, even some pictures : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59451127&postcount=766
NOTE: Not all tweak work. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

You were on ZV4 right? I believe you have to flash the boot.img for ZV4 from TWRP and that will fix it. You might have to flash from fastboot though I forget, its almost 3am here and its been a long day.
Extract the boot.img from this .zip and try that.
Ok so for whatever reason I just could not get the damn OTA updates to stop re-downloading, even after doing what cpshelley2 said to do. My problem was update.zip kept re-downloading to /cache/ and then the notification would pop up to install. I ran the adb command cpshelley2 suggested and turned OTA off, made sure the update.zip was deleted, long pressed the notification clicked app info went to manager cleared all.
And it would just keep downloading over and over again, giving me the notification to install over and over again, so what I found was apps named Disable Service and Autorun Manager on the play store, they are free and for root, that fixed this for me.
DisableSevice Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice&hl=en
AutorunManager Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun&hl=en
**WARNING DO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ARE CHECKING AND UNCHECKING IN THESE PROGRAMS YOU COULD MESS SOMETHING UP!***
Open the Disable Services app, click where it says System near the top, then scroll down to Google Play services, click it, now scroll down almost all the way near the bottom and find SystemUpdateService then uncheck it will turn red.
Now open Autorun Manager and select Advance Mode, then in the top right click Settings, make sure Show System Entries and Enable System App Disable are both Checked, now find Google Play Services, click it to see a list of receivers, scroll down til you find com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver and com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$ActiveReceiver and com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$SecertCodeReceiver ,then un-check them.
Now your done.
Reboot phone and update.zip will stop downloading in /cache/ (**delete it one last time if it is there still**) and you will stop being notified about the ZV5 update.
Hope that helps someone else too. Any questions feel free to ask and remember I'm on the LG LS660 Virgin Mobile.
Hidden Custom Lock Screen Wallpaper Feature
Oh and I have found how to make custom lock screens for everyone else with the LG Tribute, its hidden in the Photos app, download or take whatever picture, open it in Photos, click the 3 dots in the top right bringing down a menu, click Set as.. click More.. Set as Lock screen wallpaper. Crop and set!
Took me forever to find that. Could not find any info anywhere on the internet. lol
Hope that helps someone else too!
Hidden Menu
Dial this number below.
5689#*660#
That unlocks the Hidden Menu.
If you Dial ##3424# it will ask you for a Six Digit Service Code or known as a MSL Service Code. ( No known working codes have been found as of this posting. )
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
How to Access the Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu, No Root Needed.
Download Activity Launcher from the play store.
Open Activity Launcher and at the top click on Recent Activities at the top and switch it to All Activities... Once you did that scroll all the way down the list to Software Updates and click on it... A list will appear showing all the activities it does... Scroll down to Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu, there are 3 you can access though 4 say Sprint OMADMA Hidden Menu.
One will let you change the carrier branding.
Hope that helps you and let us know what happens if you try it please.
NOTE: You can Edit Chameleon Node options in the Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu com.lge.lgdmsclient.ui.test.SPROmadmHiddenMenu such as "Brand Name" in Edit Chameleon Node... Click it... Then click GET... If you have Virgin Mobile that should pop up under Brand Name... Click it and edit to say what you want... Then click SET and reboot phone to take effect.
CHANGE SETTINGS ATE YOUR OWN RISK AND NEVER FACTORY RESET OUTSIDE OF YOUR DEFAULT BRANDING OPTION.
And that my friends is mostly what I have found so far for our phones that are useful.
Now any questions feel free to ask and I'll answer ASAP. 3am here so I'm off to bed now. Night my friends.

I have tried Root Explorer and it allows me to read and write to the SD card. I have Root Call blocker and that works as well, I have tried Xposed Framework and so far no go, it does a reboot and you will lose root. This is still a work in progress but it looks a lot more promising than a couple of months ago.
I did not use any img files due to mine being a note edge and I think those files are for those who have taken the lollipop upgrade on their Note 4's. Since we have not received the lollipop upgrade to our edge's yet you should be good to at least temporary root because it is only working on KitKat.
I was able to temp root with king root 4.0.1 apk ... and was able to remove bloatware files from: system/app and: system/priv-app but after reboot they are all back.
Update.... after temp rooting. . Install Titanium Backup and Freeze system apps will enable you to "turn off" apps that you otherwise wouldn't be able to disable through the stock app manager in settings menu.
See screenshot below. ...
Screenshot
Screenshot of TouchWiz disabled because I use a different Home Launcher. And YES it keeps disabled through a reboot.
Was able to turn off The KNOX apps as well... seems to keep root longer without rebooting. HOWEVER root doesn't last forever.. meaning apps like Titanium Backup will lose root... and you will have to reboot and run King root again to get temp root to freeze more apps etc.
This is still a work in progress, hopefully the losing root problem will be fixed soon.
This is nice but after messing with it all week I gave up. I could easily get temp.root and get SU installed but you lose root after about an hour even if you touch nothing. You will also get random reboots a lot and then have to start over.

If you install Titanium Backup and "freeze" all the Knox apps [see post 7, 8, & 9] you can keep root long enough to freeze all unwanted bloatware. That way you can at least "turn off" [disable] those apps from running in background etc. It's something more then we had.
Keep at it guys! I'll join when I get some time tomorrow and Monday

Yup, this worked. All week I was trying to "remove" these applications via tibu but yesterday I just froze them. I still lost root but see everything I froze is still listed as "Turned off" in Application manager. That will do for now, Thanks!
when you temp root, use TiBu to "convert to user app" this should move all the files to the user apps directory instead of system apps then try to uninstall and see if they come back after reboot. Just a hunch but I can't try since I don't have the retail version.

You need to long press on the app. Towards the end of the setting that popup you should see the convert to user app setting.
Easiest way I found was to freeze all the apps you don't want, filter for frozen apps then go through the list converting them to user apps
Edit: this doesn't work. They will install themselves back after doing this.
I figured they would come back.. freezing app is as good as it gets for now.
long press or swipe right to get to the additional options. also thank you guys for confirming that for me. i wasnt for sure since I dont have the retail version to test out on.
also i think i remember reading in the note 4 forum that they were able to get it perma deleted by uninstalling all updates then uninstalling the app or something along those lines. I will go back and read it again to be sure of what i read, i may have misread.
I used this method to disable knox and bloatware on my Verizon Edge even without root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/disable-knox-ota-root-t2972263
As far as temp root is concerned using King root, I suppose while on a rooted state, one can make changes to the system such as:
1) Enabling 3rd party apps like ES File Explorer to write to SD card by modifying platform.xml as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524277
2) Enabling hidden menu (if this is important to you) by modifying /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu file.
Even if you lose root, the changes you made to these files should stick, correct?

[ROM] TWRP stock pre-rooted flash of OK2 for N900P

This is a prerooted stock ROM of the OK2 update. It also has the sd card fix patch applied.
This ROM requires installing a custom recovery on your device, which will trip Knox.
All operations are done at your own risk
I would advise against flashing the EFS partition unless you know yours is corrupted (i don't think many people have that issue). The Boot, System, and Modem partitions all need to be flashed though.
If installing over Kitkat, a factory reset will most likely be required as lollipop installs apps differently. Also be prepared to lose all files on internal memory.
I would recommend backing up your OS before flashing. Also it wouldn't hurt to backup app data to make reinstalling apps easier.
Here's the thread for twrp:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/how-to-root-note-3-lollipop-t3089382
To install the ROM, extract the 7zip file to "/ExtSdCard/twrp/backups/{serial number}/"
using your favorite software (I made the file with ES File Explorer on Android).
Enter recovery mode (Volume up + Home button while poering on), and select "Restore" from the list of options.
There is a option to select internal or external storage to Restore from.
Select the OK2 stock rooted backup file. (Un)Check the appropriate boxes.
Restore the image to install the new OS
Here's the ROM
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2iEgzRTFjrQdzNBa29DMTBsZHc/view?usp=docslist_api
I don't suppose you have another link? It fails to download every time I try.*Edit* I didn't have drive installed just flashed cm nightly forgot to install it :silly: thanks. And keep up the good work!
Not right now. I know youl'll receive two or three different errors, but you gotta click "continue" or "download" or "download anyway" to get the file. If it continues to be a problem, I can setup a torrent server for it when i get home tonight.
It might also help to download to a pc, or on a Wi-Fi connection. I've had issues with downloads failing to complete using my phone with big files.

I do not know. I use a third-party app for my hotspot. If you have hotspot services with your provider, the native one should work, but I have not tested that theory.
If you're not signed up for hotspot services, check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796994
or the "Wi-Fi Tether Router" app on the play store works very well for me (since this is a rooted ROM):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
Just have to remember with that app to turn the device's Wi-Fi on before activating the hotspot.
Is anyone else having wifi calling issues with this rom? At first I got the error 16 switch message when trying calls of any kind off wifi, but wifi calling worked. Then I called sprint and they worked their magic to correct the error 16 message but I've had wifi calling issues ever since. Calls start and immediately drop on wifi calling.

I personally never had that problem. But I did notice if I tried to download a big file, or other devices on the network were using a LOT of data, the Wi-Fi calling would disconnect. Sometimes using the Bluetooth could cause problems since it uses the same antenna as the Wi-Fi... But I only had issues with that when transferring data with one or the other.
Yep, I know it can be picky, I have used it for years. This is the first time is disconnects immediately on every wifi call. Nothing has changed on my network. Comcast 75mbps, wireless AC router. It started with this rom, which by the way I love otherwise.

If you have successfully unzipped the file while the device is in normal operation. Then after you have booted into recovery mode (twrp) you should be able to locate the unzipped file with twrp. If it doesn't flash (Install) then something else is wrong. Is your phone already rooted ? If so what OS are you running now ? If not, You may want to root with supersu first. Do you have an SD Card installed in your device? If so, using a root file manager app like Root Explorer copy and paste the unzipped OK2 OS file to the Sd Card and boot back into twrp recovery and locate the unzipped file and flash from the SD Card.

This requires a custom recovery. I used TWRP to make the backup, and used ES File Explorer to zip it. If you don't have a custom recovery, you need a computer to install one. There is a completely stock ROM available if you don't want to trip Knox and keep your device completely stock, but that does require a computer.
