LG G2 - Best Rom Only For Battery Life - G2 General

Please, somebody open my eyes to choose correct ROM for battery life.
I only care BATTERY LIFE.
CloudyFlex , Optimus Pro , coudy G3, pardus, or else .......... which one?

ROM choice is less important than kernel choice. Dorimanx, sovaca, and Render build great kernels.

im using now CloudyFlex 2.6 but i don't know which kernel in it. What is your suggest for CloudyFlex 2.6 ? Thank you for your replies.

Either dori or sovaca will be fine. Render is only for AOSP. Just be sure to flash the right version for your phone and nandroid backup first

make sure you also use:
- autostarts: to prevent apps that update/check through internet all the time and wake up your phone all the time to see whther you got a new post. You would be surprised by how many triggers some apps will start and run services in the background.
- greenify: to put apps to sleep while your phone is off.
- check the settings for some of your apps: many apps want to know your location or anything else every 2 minutes and that doesn't let your phone sleep properly.
I use cloudyflex 2.6 btw. My battery does not lose a single % when I am not actively using my phone.

I run Plain-Andy with Render in ART, absolutely zero "battery saving" apps or settings, I easily get 1-2 days without a charge, right now its sitting at 51% 1d5h30m with 2h30m screen on.
I got the same battery life out of Mahdi and G3 port.
Battery saving apps are a gimmick and just more apps to run in the background.

They are not only "battery saving apps", I _hate_ it when apps come on when I don't specifically tell them to... I don't trust them.
I haven't tried without autostarts/greenify, I might get same battery results.
Then again, if you tried with them you might get even better battery
I do have a flatline battery usage when I am not actively using the phone (or running major backups in the background).

i dont like and i dont trust any app related "Battery perf.-Cleaner-Ram-etc" . But I dont know why, i just like Greenify App.
What do you think of Greenify? is it necessary or does it works?

Dont root. Ever since I rooted my battery got worse and worse. Even after returning to nonrooted stock. I regret rooting my G2 because stock worked great. Best battery life = dont root.

May be right, my be not... it's what you think and i respect your experience.
Let's my thoughts: first af all, i use 10c stock rom first and then 20d and then 20c. These are good roms i know but i think that these are only for normal users. Everything in system is normal level with these roms. I dont like limited use.
I want to change notification bar, navigation bar, and some colors... I ve bought a android phone because i want to interfere in systtem when i want.
my test results:
10c-20d-20c = slide photo view(nonstop), screen time 4h35m and 5h40m
In the same way, other custom roms : 6h10m and 7h35m (optimus pro-cloudyflex-g3)
wifi = on
brightness = %100
remain battery level= %8
NOTE: onlly use single Rom, dont any other app such as cleaner, battery saver etc.
If i use lots of apk with custom roms, my battery is getting weak.

You want a rom with the best battery life? Stock! Stock rom should be your answer :silly:

That's just an illusion. Rooting won't affect your battery life, giving root permission to apps would. Root permission isn't something trivial, just keep that in mind.

Stock rom, the one comes with the phone. It has the best battery life, from the ones i tried at least. If you are not using stock rom for a while you should give it a chance.

Stock is definitely the best as far as I tried. But would recommend giving Cloudyg3 a shot, I'm getting great battery with the out of the box kernel.

The whole battery life quest is always a bit hard to measure because everyone expects something different.
I've tried every ROM there is. I'm not exaggerating. Stock will always give you the best battery life without needing battery saving apps. But if you then use battery saving apps on stock it gets even better.
I find the biggest savings are through apps that control how your phone uses data while the screen is off and control the CPU while the screen is off.
But if you don't want to tweak anything or use apps to do so, then a nice clean stock ROM is what you want. Because each dev has different goals you may just have to try each one until you find one that meets YOUR requirements.
For nice clean and thoughtfully tweaked stock ROMs I'd recommend Lightning V4 or worship ROM.

My device isn't great on battery by any mean but with "taking a pictures (10-15), a short video (2-3m), Data open all day, 30-35m calling, messenger and whatsapp all day", by 7pm when I come home from work, it would still have 70% - 80%

[Q] % of total battery usage - display is way to high

Hi guys sorry for this thread new here so please go easy on me. Had a galaxy s2 for a few weeks now and i have to say best phone ever. Did the normal rooting and flashing roms and i have noticed recently that my battery has been going down quite a lot after a few hours. I tried roms like Villainrom, Cognition, Batista and etc which i find them very good but on my battery stats it says that i have high display usage and the percentage is like 56 - 85 and sometimes goes and stays to 91. i have since then when back to 2.3.3 stock firmware rooted it as well and i only have display percentage of only 25% which i think is normal and my battery lasts longer. I have spoken to Samsung regarding this situation and they are sending me a new battery but im just wondering why i cant flash a custom rom without having to worry about the high display % and what can i do to fix it? do i have to give it a few days for the battery to settle on the rom or shall i just stay with the stock rom for now till i get my new battery and then try to flash? sorry for the long essay i just need to find out if any one else had the same problem as i really like to use a custom rom that my normal one.
THanks
I too find it very hard on the battery with all the custom roms that I have tried out. I tried, Villain, Cogniton, LeoMar, Batista, etc..etc..etc. I have in fact tried out all the ROMs out here. Tried even different combinations of Kernel, but all only lead to the frustration when it comes to battery life. I finally tried MIUI ROM and I can say that it is giving me very good battery life compared to other ROMs.
It is interesting to note from you that the STOCK ROM has given you better battery life. Could you please tell me how long did your battery last in Stock ROM and what are the Apps that were running in it?
Install Better Battery Stats, I don't think anything wrong with the battery.
See under Wakelocks what apps/processes are going in background and causing the drain. Then take necessary steps with TB Pro.

to xdadeveloporian: thanks for your reply bk and sorry to hear that you had the same issues. like i said above i am very new to all this so apologies if i am replying with noobish comments. with wifi on and the normal widgets i had a battery life over a day. only charged it once and it still going. is that rom that you using now good?
and to ithappy sorry what do you mean by your reply i do not understand sorry. and do you guys think with a new battery it will fix my problems and i will be able to flash roms or do i have a faulty phone?
% is not important, what really matters is total time on for the display. Are you sure it isn't that the stock ROM burns more power in other areas, so the display is less? Or maybe the brightness is different? I'm not even sure how the display proportion of battery drain is apportioned - is there really a current sense integrator?
now that i have the stock rom with firmware 2.3.3 display is 30% followed by android os 15 - 19% which i think is normal into regards were i was on customs roms and the os was 15% and display 50% and over. brightness is basically at the lowest i can put it i am using touchwiz launcher and i only have two pages with widgets and nothing else. just a bit confusing thats all. i mean with custom roms the battery should be alot better not the other way round if you get me.
apologies if im not making any sense here. thanks again for all your replies it does help

I don't believe that stuff, why battery life would be better in a Custom ROM, because they added/modified some stuffs, nah. You can make a Stock ROM custom with some little modifications if you are rooted and have great apps like Root Explorer, Titanium Backup etc. I, for me, will never ever use a Custom ROM. But that's just me, don't take it any personally.
And about battery, don't see that how long are you getting with it, like- 1 day, 2 days, they don't make any sense, just keep an eye on the 'Screen On' time, if that is around or above 5 hours then you are very fine. And also keep checking that your Awake and Screen On bar is synchronized or not, if it is not then you must have something going on background, like- Latitude, Email exchange etc. which you can see under Better Battery Stats. And also, when not needed turn off, 3G, Packet Data, WiFi, Auto Sync, Background Sync and check how many apps are on Auto Sync, if not needed then modify it to Manual Sync.
Regards.

Maybe they fixed some bugs - specifically a custom kernel might have improvements or bug fixes (since there is lots of work going on here from many companies making contributions). This takes time to filter through to the official ROMs.
Maybe they removed some of the stock apps which contribute (maybe only slightly) to power drain.
Maybe the small differences in the ROM mean that existing bugs are less likely to have an impact, so even not fixing the bug it seems to have gone away.
Custom ROMs are as likely to make things worse - but if many people are affected then it is likely that someone will track down the reason.
Look all i know is that as soon as i started flashing custom roms on my phone my battery life has been going down like hell. Checking battery stats the most thing that is taking up battery life is the display being as high as 80 even 90 percent. I am not a expert on android having had an iphone all my life so when people say underclocking and other stuff its like new things to me so i do apologise for being such a noob. i do love my galaxy and i think its the best phone out there at the moment. all i need to know is if there is something that i can do to bring the display down and not to have it drain so much out of the battery..
Thanks again for everyone for replying
very niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
huh? has anyone else experience high display usage on their phones when checking battery stats?
is that from the android market i can get that app?

New user - surprised at poor battery life - help?

I'm a new Galaxy S II (and new Android) user, and am a bit disappointed in the battery life of my new phone. It was running down extremely quickly yesterday, only lasting about 12 hours with relatively normal use (sending half a dozen texts, downloading 2 apps, checking Facebook and Twitter once an hour or so for a couple of minutes throughout the day). I allowed the phone to discharge completely and charged it fully last night, but this morning nothing seems to have improved. I burned up 10% of the battery in half an hour sending 2 texts, checking my emails, Facebook and Twitter and downloading and trying out a couple of apps.
I'm anxious to know if there's a bit of a burn-in time with the battery on this thing - does it get better after a few charges? I see a lot of people saying they can have the phone on for a few days in some cases, but that's definitely not my experience thus far.
I've installed JuiceDefender (balanced profile), AutoKiller Memory and Advanced Task Killer to try to sort things out but none of them seem to having too much effect and to be quite honest I'd rather not have to compromise my experience by running a number of apps like this to try to extend my battery life at all (nor do I want to have to turn the brightness right down to an unusable level, or set black wallpapers for example).
Does anyone have any real advice on this? I'm starting to think that switching ROMs might be worthwhile? I see that the leaked 2.3.4 ROM seems to have better battery life - is this correct? I'm a bit reluctant to switch to any other unofficial ROMs as there are so many I wouldn't know where to start. It seems they all make a lot of changes but I'd want to keep as close to the stock feel as possible, just with better battery life.
no one uses stock roms/kernels nowadays. u should flash a custom rom or kernel since they provided optimizations to batt life.

It is argued that task killers and memory killers will only make the problem worse. Juice Defender might be useful if you are using it for scheduling sync and turning WI-FI off when the screen is off, but this feature is only present in the Ultimate edition and you can turn off sync and WI-FI manually if you want. Also beware of rogue apps which are syncing all the time. It is normally the main reason of poor battery life.
Other reason, is that whereas powerful tech specs for phones were rapidly developed, battery technology didn't followed the pace. Our simply batteries cannot cope with our beasts.
Also, there is a thing that it's called "new phone battery blues" which is described as poor battery life due to excessive use of a new powerful toy. After you use your phone normally, for the purposes that normally people use a phone, your battery life will became better.
That said, personally I have a spare battery and a spare charger, and when the battery being used is low, I replace it with the charged one. Sometimes it is necessary, sometimes not.

They also have a tendency to look very tacky I think though. I think Samsung's skin and widgets are pretty nice and don't care too much for the mods I see in the screens of most ROMs. I'm really looking for something very similar to stock, except with better battery life if there are any suggestions? That's why I was thinking of just jumping to the leaked 2.3.4 if it had any noticeable impact on battery life...
Try using better battery stats, link in my sig, to see if you have any wakelocks, the thread has a good howto on using it.
The biggest thing that uses the battery on this phone is the screen, you will get between 4 and 6 hours of screen on time depending on usage and screen brightness.

Fair point - not all of the roms are everyone's cup of tea. My advice, as a starting point is to flash the stock XXKH3 variant for your area, and then flash a custom kernel, such as Ninphetamine's or Hardcore's Speedmod. This will greatly help with battery life, and also give you the ability (via root access) to use Titanium Backup to freeze apps and services you're not using, which is often the major cause of battery drain through 'wakelocks'; apps that prevent your phone from entering Deep Sleep, or continuously wake it up.
Update to the latest version in your area, uninstall those task killers and whatnot or do a factory reset, install the apps that you are going to use normally like facebook twitter and install better battery stats, decrease brightness to your most tolerable level.
use the phone normally and when the battery is low, use the tool provided in android to check if your phone is sleeping when the screen is OFF, if you are having wakelocks, then use better battery stats to find which apps are causing the wake locks.
No need to install battery management apps, or task killers or memory optimization apps (or as custom rom as yet), that would only compound you problem which may be a very small one to begin with
Thanks for the help so far guys. I've installed XXKH3 and flashed hardcore's Speedmod kernel, and am just getting things set back up the way I like them again. I'm going to uninstall the battery saving apps for now and see how the battery lasts the next couple days.
I'll install Better Battery Stats and keep an eye on any wakelocks too.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction - it was all very simple and quick to get set up; the sheer number of kernels, ROMs, etc. is all a little overwhelming to me right now, being new to Android!

wow, good for you
I used HTC Desire before this device, and the roms on there actually hindered battery life, even with all the fancy underclocking, so I am betting, without even attempting to brick my phone, that they are just as overhyped on this phone too.
I get two to three days out of my phone, using it as a PHONE. I can send and receive emails and texts all day, along with phone calls and the occasional browsing and still get at least two days before it dies. I turn off data when I dont want it and stick it in 2G mode and it dares me to kill the battery.
Just let usage settle down and it's fine

That is wrong. I used to have a UGKG2 ROM and since I upgraded to XXKH3, the battery is MUCH better while the GPS pinpoints in less than 3 seconds with a 5meters accuracy.

Q:I'll do anything if you can help with my battery life

ok so i am on ginger 2.3.3 with a day one x10a baceband 71 rooted with Custom boot loader so i can literally do anything except gain more battery life. i have tried ATK in the past and ditched it for Battery doctor cause i found when you charge with battery doctor i get about 6 more hours out of my phone. ad that to my 1800mAh battery from mugen power and i'm getting about 12 more hours then i did when i got the dang thing. killing tasks all the time deferentially helps. all in all i get about 24 hours...
what i'd really like is a custom rom that is Ginger that's whole point is battery life... i'd really like to forget to plug my phone in and not panic in the morning cause i'm at 10%
i have looked though allot of roms but can't seem to find anything with all the battery eating junk ripped out it seems most of them are putting more junk in
Are there any good LITE roms out there?

which version did you flash?
V3.0.0 is not long last battery life... but V2.1.1 is very good for battery life
Did you check my screen shot regarding with battery life
try team rom it has decent battery life and is very fast and responsive
Sound to me more like it your habit rather than ROM/Hardware .
I wound't begin the debate here about ATK, but since your post doesn't provide any technical info. Let's try this..
> Seriously, stop using ATK.. it would just HIDE the real problems.
> Remove all unnecessary widget... clock, time, weather, photo, blah blah
> Wait for a few hour, is it significantly better?
> Remove some background-apps; viber, whatsapp, skype, trillion, imo, msg, brb, blah, blah, blah
> Wait for a few hour, is it better?
Well, it should... (definately )
Some geeks down here... skip it if you're lazy.
Actually, you will need to understand something that it's not really about ROM.
Most custom ROM provide you some 'minfree' tweak. Let's make it simple.
Case 1, minfree is 60MB (most custom ROMs)
> droid will just fill the memory with lots of apps till RAM is 60MB.
> droid will start killing the task aggressively when RAM is below 60MB.
Case 2, same thing with 30MB (Stock ROM)
> droid will just fill the memory with lots of apps till RAM is 30MB.
> droid will start killing the task aggressively when RAM is below 30MB.
So, using ATK means....you shot everything to pieces, and droid just recovers it back..
or.............................you and droid trying to shot everything down.....
doesn't sound useful.. does it?
ATK is then.. useless.. unless there are some legacy no brainer app eating CPU and tell droid that 'I'm busy doing my (stupid) job, go away and don't kill me'.
Alright, that's NOT the point about ATK.
My point is, if you having too much apps, beyond 'minfree' level, there is no way you can save the battery whether using ATK or droid itself.... ATK just hide it, and make it worse.
This is why most people get a decent battery life with stock, since it provides lowest minfree level (around simple 30MB), with a cost of system performance, which is one of the reason that stock one is the slowest one.
So, what you need to do is to adjust number of your running apps, close to the minfree level.
Or adjust the minfree level (autokiller memory optimizer?) to match your current usage.
So, all in all, if you're using custom ROMs, stop using ATK, uninstall any stupid apps till free memory is running around 60-80MB. This will give you 'optimal' (not best) battery life.
384MB is not decent enough for X10 to become a multitasking speedy beauty with decent battery life.

Try installing JuceDefender from the market. If after trying it for awhile you find an extreme difference in battery life then your problem is probably with one of your apps accessing Wifi / Wireless data all the time.
Another thing that could be causing it is if you're in a very low signal area. Where I used to work, I was lucky to get 12 hours out of my phone. Right now, it's been off the charger for 11.5 hrs and I'm down to 82%. In this case shutting of wifi and wireless data will help.
Sorry I can't offer any more suggestions. Good luck man.
I use battery Dr. for killing tasks as it helps by doing calibration charges when you charge your phone from under 20%. So I get more battery life than I did with juice defender
Also I get full bars on an hsps network at both home and work

I agree, I use JiuceDefender and if you take the time to set all the profiles it will help alot. Service area signal is also a key to battery life. Also try Battery Calibration App from the market, it will reset your battery stats. Make sure and leave the app open untill battery charges to 100%. Then let battery go till phone shuts down and charge again to 100%, That has been the best fix for me, plus Wolfberak's 2.3 rom's.
Ya using wolf note and I'm liking it.it's giving me my 3 days so I'm good.... I'd like to point out that juice defender as a few cool features but battery doctor seems to work better it has full cycle charging built in as well

[Q] Best ROM - Battery wise?

Hi.. my first experience with S2 has not been great battery wise. I've found the battery life to be horrible. Even with all the battery saving features i.e. static background, widgets off, etc. etc., I have to charge the device twice a day. Its practically useless. I was thinking maybe there's some 3rd party ROM out there which would improve the battery life? I'm currently running stock 2.3.4. Any suggestions would be welcome..
try mikimod"s rom its really good for battery, and also sicopat<s rom< and modaco i find they are the best for longer battery
I've used VillianROM, Cognition, and CyanogenMod. I find that CyanogenMod gives the best battery, but your mileage may (or will, most likely) vary.

And you STILL do not know where to post? You have got to be kidding me. This belongs in GENERAL. Because I do not see how this is related to DEVELOPMENT.
Now that I have bashed your face in. I get 40-50 hours out of my phone. Try GREEN POWER from the market. It turns your data off when the screen are off. Also See my sig for what I run.
Hyperandoid1.3.2 with speedmodk2-1 gave me a battery life of over 2 days.

You will get mixed answers. People run different roms with different kernels. Some do a full discharge/charge before judging these kind of things, some don't. In the end the most important factor will be apps and usage.
Try what works best for you. And post in q/a section next time.

The best choice to make is on my signature.
Is not only the most battery wise, but also the most quick and the most smooth.

Best Rom So Fare.........
( SensatioN Rom 1.8 )
( Based on 2.3.5 XXK13 )
this is none wipe Rom.
Excellent review..
Try It..
Hope you'll Sensation Rom.
Before trying other roms/kernels check to see which apps are draining your battery so much, as for dual core phones the GS2 battery is really good, so in normal situations you shouldn't have to charge the battery twice a day.
I'm in Wanam 5.1 + siyah kernels and as many other users i get +2 days of battery.
@antiochasylum I've hardly had the need to post. In any case, any moderator can feel free to move this thread to General. @Sesshou about 57% is display. Rest of the entries are all negligible. Yet the batter evaporates..
Why no one mentioned MIUI ROMs..?
Are they not good in terms of battery life..?

The android os high battery usage could not be a problem though.. I think that if you keep your screen on for sometime, the screen on time will go to the first place.. and I suggest you to try ParanoidAndroid Jelly Bean

first of all it should be spelled "serious"
and now if you are coming from a different OS like symbian or ios then here is the hard truth all android phones pretty much have comparatively(to symbian) low battery....
and give it some time,a few battery cycles will improve battery life...
ps:i am on stock 4.0.3 rom my s2 only lasts 1.5 days max only if i don't play games.....

so you are facing problems only after factory reset??
did you install any particular app, maybe that is causing the drain...
i would suggest to do a factory reset once more and check without installing any app the battery life
TouchWiz gives high battery drain compared to custom ROM's, probably due to the bloatware.
I will never use TouchWiz on an android/galaxy phone, I will always use custom ROMS

Generally most people will agree that Resurrection Remix is a very good ROM for battery. But most ROM s that d not use the touch wiz is probably better.

Really? That is so much good news to hear, Can any one tell me what should i do after flashing new firmware in my s2 , Some peoples saying dont delete battery stats files its cause some fuel alert wakelocks and some are saying only deleting battery stats files can give you correct reading actually i was thinking that the cause of android Os high battery usage will be the incorrect reading of battery what you say ?

Incorrect.
ONE complete battery cycle will re calibrate the fuel gauge chip. Once when i cycled my battery it stuck on 1% for over 4 hours. It does NOT give you longer battery life, rather it re calibrates the battery indicator.
OP if you want better battery life try this:
Use a custom rom, or a frankenrom if you like the stock feel, or a rom modded for better battery life
Look into what services are running and remove the ones that are running when not expected
remove the facebook app,
use less widgets (since they use more battery),
choose a darker background (AMOLED screens use the most power for white),
turn down the brightness,
have GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth off when not needed,
turn off auto updates,
anything that automatically checks for stuff, turn that off or increase the delay,
Use a kernel that supports under-volting and under-clocking. You have a powerful phone which rarely needs to use all the power. Under-volting and under-clocking can help you get even several hours longer out of your device without a noticeable impact
Turn off those damn task killers. Its more efficient to not have a task running than to close it every 5 minutes and have it auto start up again. task killers were great for android 1.3, not so great for 4.0
In my class there is one other guy with an S2 and every day i hear his battery beep at him that its dying. I can go about 2 days of similar usage with no battery problems. Why? Because i spent time and effort to learn why my battery was draining and how to make my device run as smooth as i can.
TLR Do some research. If you want everything given to you buy an iPhone.

zain, dont fret yourself over the battery backup duration. With frequent usage, you will have to charge twice a day at the most. Your battery will still last 2 years.
