Hey mate.
No it's not bricked.
Since you said you are able to boot your phone into recovery then Your phone is fully safe.
Now just flash philz kernel for your phone (corresponding to your build number)
Flash it and then download any 4.1.2 based ROM and install it following the guide
Let me know if u need any help

[Q] please please understand and help..

I have rooted my phone with odin and installe the kitchen pro app, but whe i try to install checkrom 6hd or any rom it fails at verification i successfully did all this a few months ago on a sgs2 before it was stolen, i now i seem to be hitting problem after problem...........
if you want to refer me to ''in in this thread'' please post the link because im struggling to find help, ive looked all over and navigating this site is far from easy.
I get the yellow triangle so i guessi rooted properly, ive tried 2 roms, neither will install :9 please help me............ delete this thread after if need be
again, please help
which kernel are you using.. download a custom kernel..like siya or neak.. and make sure its the correct version .. dat is if you are using GB rom then download a GB kernel. the try flashing the rom from recovery
1) Kitchen pro will work only after installing Checkrom,
2) flash another (CWM+Rooting) kerenel from ODIN like siyah,
link for GB Shiyah Kernel : http://gokhanmoral.desean.net/siyahkernel/v2.6/Siyah-v2.6.14.tar (make sure you are on GB version now, otherwise you have to select ICS siyah kernel)
and try to install Checkrom from CWM
I've done all that, I keep getting E:verification failed.... any help please?

[Q] New to this phone

I just bought a used galaxy s2 I love the phone already. I had the samsung infuse before, and I loved the cm7 nightly builds on that phone, but had to upgrade You all know how that is haha.... I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505172 to root and then had to unlock seeing as I am on rogers.... First thing I have to say is that every time I boot up I see the triangle with the ! in it so I might have done the wrong one? It said before i had the i9000m btw. And I installed CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 as the kernel
Another thing I might as is that when I tried to open odin 1.85, it would say Odin.ini with a bunch of sqaures, i press ok and it closes.... So i just used 1.83.
Last thing is who do I go into cwm recovery, and I want to go on a cyanogen mod 7 or 9.... Should I try cm9? And how would I do that?
THANKS!
Hope everyone here is more helpful than on the infuse sometimes
the yellow triangle is always there when you boot it cause you rooted it.. but gladly, you can remove it with a usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udzMQ_dsci4) or without usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOXNf_kH-iA)
I highly suggest skipping CM9 and giving Resurrection Remix a try. Also learn to live with the yellow triangle and forget the CF kernels. I use Siyah kernel and there are other alternatives just as good.
I've tried almost every rom and kernal for S2 and I truly believe RR and Siyah is the best performing combo of them all.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks I will trythat now, but how do I do that? I sent you a message
If you don't have a usb jig to reset the flash counter and remove the triangle on boot up try chainfire's TriangleAway app either found on the play store(paid) or in his thread here on xda(free). Make sure you are running an ICS rom.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Sorry I meant how do I do the siyah and rr thing but thanks
I received your message. All the info you will need is right here on XDA already. When you rooted your phone you probably installed CWM recovery (press home, volume up and power buttons to boot into it). Assuming you have that you can just follow the steps in the RR thread to install. It already comes with Siyah Kernel so you can simply flash the latest version to keep it updated. I used odin to flash a modem firmware for Canadian networks but that's optional since the stock base band in rr worked fine.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
So that means all I do is flash rr from cwm and clear that bs stuff and I'm good to go?
Sent from my GT-I9100M using xda premium
Its simple as that Just follow the extended steps in the faq of the rr thread and remember to make backups in cwm in case you make mistakes and need to try again.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
if u need to do a factory reset/full wipe in the process of intalling the new rom
all apps and data will be deleted
so its convenient to make backup important things like your apps, sms, or call log
not compusory though
backup apps using Titanium backup, there are free and paid version

Stick with GB. CM9 AOSP AOKP and Samsung ICS roms will give you a headache, poor performance and poor battery life. My two cents.

Not bricked but.. need help

looked at similar threads but not found what im looking for
i tried a new rom last night whih made my phone freeze and trying i could reboot as after 2 seconds it would hang. ended up flashing firmwre via odi which was fine.
tonight tried to reroot my phone using the S3 toolkit which i used fist time round. everything seemed to go as planned but then when it came to reboot.. s3 toolkit aid all successful but i was getting a black screen.
i can hear the samsung logo load up but cant see it.
I can boot into recovery and download mode. what do I do??.. reflash latest 4.1.1 firmware via Odin?
If this works how best to go about rooting as i dont know if i want to try the s3 toolkit again if it clearly didnt work (although all messages pointed to that it did)
Thanks in advance

[Q] closest s3 ROM to stock? i7777

I still run a stock ice cream, I'm officially going to root it and put a custom fw on it. It would be a miracle at this point if they updated it.
What is the closest to the s3 rom? I'm guessing its shostock3? I really want a stock rom, with all the samsung apps. I know people ask all the time what the best rom is etc etc, but is my assumption correct here? i777 here.
my only fear is that shostock will be worse on battery life than an official one, but at the same time, that could be a false notion with me.
Thank you for any input.

With any custom ROM you should get better battery life as opposed to the stock ICS ROM, as there are kernel bugs that drains battery at a faster than normal pace.
There is also an issue with the stock kernel that can permanently brick your phone (do NOT perform a factory reset or wipe of any sort unless/until you have replaced that kernel!!)
SHOstock3 can get awesome battery life.
so is shostock3 the only rom that gives me jelly bean + touchwiz 5 ? and the samsung apps ? I saw the music player is the same as the s3 etc??
Thank you

Here's my suggestion: make a nandroid backup, flash SHOstock3 and see whether you like it or not.
I installed Fromaroot and rooted the phone. I'm trying to get CWM on there now.
I was trying to do it without odin and without using a computer much. Did I mess up the process doing the fromaroot, it did succeed. All I have now is the android recovery(which i'm guessing isn't much help?).
I'm trying to install shostock, but it looks like i already need a kernel that has CWM already on the phone before I install that? I don't want stuff that is already iterated to me repeated, and have the thread locked.
But can I use mobile odin pro to install a kernel with CWM? or should I really be using the computer right now to do all of this?
Thank you

Assuming the root process worked correctly, then you *can* use Mobile Odin (pro or lite) to install a custom kernel containing ClockworkMod Recovery. For more detailed information, please see the guides linked in my signature.
even though it says I already need a kernel that has CWM to install shostock on the official page?
sorta came off as most people will have already been flashed etc.
the last thing i want to do is brick my phone on the first attempt. Also what kernel should I flash, there is so much outdated info out there. I dont see anyone on here mention fromaroot but it worked perfectly, maybe it's a bit of a newer tool.

Read the 1st link from creepyncrawly's signature to get started.
Simple rule to follow. Look what version of Android your phone is running now, and then read the related posts for flashing kernel, ROM, CWM, etc. That's how I did it. This phone is almost 2 years old and of course outdated info is floating around.
For me, it took less than an hour to root/flash the phone, but days to read through all related posts.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here.
You started out with stock 4.0.3 (or 4.0.4.) Your stock kernel contains stock 3e recovery, which you can not use to flash custom firmware. So, to put custom firmware on the phone, you need to first flash a kernel containing CWM Recovery. (There is no stand alone recovery on this phone. The recovery is built right into the kernel.) You can do that by several methods. Using Mobile Odin is the quickest and easiest. It's almost fool proof.
And yes, the phone is starting to show it's age, and the guides are getting a little out dated. But the information is still good. What is important is understanding the process. You (and everyone) should understand exactly what you are doing before you modify your phone. Once you understand the process, you are much less likely to make a paper weight.
For a custom kernel, use one of the ones linked in the OP of the thread for 4.0.4 ICS, UCLL6 plus root which is also linked in my signature.

Just to recap, to go from stock to custom firmware
1. root
2. install a custom kernel containing CWM recovery. It should be a recovery that works with your current system.
3. use CWM recovery to flash the firmware of your choice.
4. profit
Thanks guys,
I've actually flashed a few phones for my friends, read up and 20 mins later i was off an on.
This was a bit more of a trouble for me though. Tons of ways to do it, many versions of this phone, half the time i would be reading and be like, damn this is not for the i777 can't take any chances.
i'm going to put that kernel on there , and then flash shostock3 , seems to be the closest thing to an s3 like experience on this phone.
I was / still am, heavily worried about battery life, something keeps telling me this is like going to cut my battery in half, i blame the experience on the t mobile g1, where i put all these roms on my friends phone and it just sucked away the battery.
Hopefully shostock3 does a good job though! ICS just isn't cutting it anymore

Not to worry! See attachment.
Admittedly, this was very light usage. But it gives you an idea what is possible.
Oh, and this is the stock battery that came with the phone in Oct. 2011. No telling how many charge cycles on it. At least 4-500.
got shostock3 on it, runs beautifully
battery life so far is just as good or even better than stock, lots of bloatware gone.
Thank you to everyone.
Fromaroot > 4.0.4 custom kernel (mobile odin) > shostock did the trick, couldn't be easier, if you ever really motivated and didn't mind waiting a bit, i guess you could do that whole process with just the phone.
only thing i used the computer for was transferring files.
and now 4 days later the official one comes out!
Everyone lost hope, even me!
I'm tempted to try it out, but at the same time, i'm quite happy with shostock3

mr-cook has a modified stock version. It's stock system plus root and busybox, and the jebo kernel. So if you wanted to try it out, you could make a nandroid backup of SHOstock3, try out the cooked rom, and if you don't like it, go back real easy.

Hello,
after epic fail(attempt) to install CyanogenMod 7.2 i've bricked my phone...

- my windows doesn't reconize the phone, i tryed different drivers/samsung kies and so on, but nothing worked, i keep getting this
my phone is currently in downloading mode and i got everything sorted (odin3 v1.85, PDA etc) but i can't get to it... Any help will be appericiated, thanks in advance.
Here is a pic:

EDIT: I fixed it by putting the usb cabel when the phone is not turned off, weird... anyway i tryed flashing CyanogenMod again and i bricked it again lol, i did evrything just like the guy on the video, any suggestions?
Do these
1.Search for Multiformater Tool (Link is broken in that Op so go to.last post some had reuploaded)
2.Goto CWM and then flash that zip in that zip.choose Format data all to RFS 2nd Option
3.And then Goto Stock Recovery (Red one) Do wipe data/cache
4.Now you can Restore your Backup of Custom Rom
5.Thats it if you want to goto CM7.2 Then just Follow beil's video After Doing Wipe data /cache in Stock recovery
Thats it

Actually he said suggest, not which is the best so it's OK.
You can try Touchwiz Resurrection if you like TouchWiz UI and also smoothness. But if you like Holo you can go for Cosmic v2 for simplicity or AceJB.

So far, our phones can't be hard bricked by installing our ROMs or kernels. Phone can be hard bricked when you use ROM Manager or when you install other roms of different devices.
