Sprint Note 3 - 3G/4G during phone calls? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I need to know if the Note 3 is able to use 3g/4g during a phone call? My Galaxy s5 does NOT, because they made an ingenious decision to not put in a dual antenna. Thanks.

It depends on the coverage, I know mine will work when I'm right next to a tower. But at home with barely any service it'll drop the data.

Note 3 can use data while talking if its 4glte not 3g its a cdma thing the s5 can also talk while on 4g as long as its not connected
To sprint spark from what I under stand

I have the Wireless Router App paid version. With 4G LTE I have sent and received phone calls while using the device as a mobile hotspot for the PC. Been downloading a movie with Vuze and still was able to receive a phone call.

[Q] CM9 Unofficial - 4g LTE signal drops during call.

Using CM9 Unofficial,
when I'm making a call, as soon as the call goes out my 4g indicator drops down to HSPA, and then 3g. During the call, the indicator switches frantically between H and 3g...and after the call, it takes several minutes to go back up to LTE.
Is this normal? Maybe i just never paid attention to the signal indicator shortly before and after a call...or maybe the stock ROMs just don't show the drop and then the pickup of the 4g LTE signal.
I'm aware that there's no VoLTE yet, but i also didn't know that the phone completely dropped--and then had to reinitiate the LTE signal just because of a phone call.
Data works while the call is in-session.

Yeah even on the stock firmware whenever you start a phone call LTE is dropped. I remember this because I have bad 3g coverage in my area but LTE is great (I know Backwards) but whenever i get on the phone I have 2-3 Bars but browsing the internet while off the phone on LTE I easily get 5 bars. You must have missed it because on the stock it goes from 4G lte to just 4G.
AT&T doesn't have Voice over LTE yet. Perhaps the indicator is showing you the information that would be most important while you are making a call (3G/HSPA+ reception).
This is only a guess of course.

This is sort of my point...and the issue, =(. Mah brain says that there shouldn't be an issue keeping up a LTE connection because it's not being used for voice. I could sorta understand if the phone wanted to prioritize the use of LTE if it wanted it for voice. But why should it drop it during a call.

My understanding is that the icon is the type of connection that the phone has with the nearest cell tower. Therefore since there isn't any VOLTE (Voice Over LTE) it needs to drop the LTE connection and connect with the same cell tower but without LTE (or nearby cell tower if LTE and HSPA+ use different ones) in order to make a phone call so it will lose LTE while the call is in progress. I'm thinking this is because the phone will only use one connection at a time so it would have to stop using LTE in order to use 3G or HSPA+ or whatever.

Ah. Mah brainz don't hurts az much as it yoost too.
Yup. Correct. During a phone call, your phone will be on 3G/H+, LTE will be dropped. Its the Network, NOT the phone.

DNA on Sprint

Since this thing has already been rooted and has cdma/evdo, will we be able to use this on Sprint?

So, we just have to wait for the hack to get it working on Sprint? Too bad we can't just shove a sim in and have it work like it does on AT&T and Tmobile. But, I'm sure the wizards here on xda will have a Sprint hack for it shortly...
I don't think its that easy haha

No hack will make it work on sprint. Radios don't have sprint bands.

Hmm... No offense, but I have a sprint phone and sprint service yet I use only Verizon towers using a very simple hack. So, I can verify sprint and Verizon use absolutely the same radios. All my phone calls and 3G data go over Verizon and at 10 times the speed. When I remove the hack and go back to Sprint towers, my data slows down by 10 times and my call quality goes down. Now, I realize they use different frequencies for LTE, but Sprint has hardly any usable LTE anyway and where I live, I will be the very last to get LTE on Sprint if at all.

are you sure you are using verizon towers. From what I've heard, if on sprint and >50% of your usage is in roaming for 2 months, they will end your service.
Also, sprint phones with lte use embedded sims, I think they are device specific, but maybe not. But how are you going to get that sprint sim, and no promises that the sprint sim will be recognized by the verizon phone.

Yes, I've been using Verizon towers for almost a year now, but I'm very careful to not go over 1GB data per month. Most of my data is over WiFi, and then use Verizon 3G when not near WiFi. My phone roamed over 50% of the time before I did the hack anyway. I do all app downloads and upgrades over WiFi only. Anyway, if Sprint does use an embedded sim, then maybe it's not possible, just seems like there should be a way because Verizon and Sprint both use compatible CDMA and 2G/3G Radios.

But with the way CDMA works with Sprint and Verizon, the phone has to be added to the carrier's device database in order to natively work on the network (and not be forced into roaming via a hack). Sprint won't add a Verizon phone to their database, nor will Verizon add a Sprint phone to their database. That's the main reason it won't work through legitimate means (and, as already mentioned, they use different LTE bands, so LTE won't work either).
So, in reality, there's no legal way to get the DNA fully working on Sprint.

[Q] No LTE Connection

For some reason I haven't been able to cnnect to LTE here in Olympia, WA. Works great 3-4 bars on my Nexus, anyone else around here having problems? Voice works fine, and I am getting full 4g signal.
Thanks
I'm in Seattle and getting fine LTE - maybe call VZW? Might need a new sim?

You're in oly there's your problem. .....I kid. If settings didn't work then yes sim card could be an issue. Don't think mine has dropped LTE since I got it. But I left the nw for the warm South.
I'm in Portland, and I have no 4G connection for some reason. I activated my phone online and it told me to use the sim card that was in my gnex. I've even tried to switch my preferences from global to CDMA/LTE but no go. I should have full bars where I'm at.
My phone just stays on 3G.
*EDIT*
Decided to call Verizon and activate the sim card that came w/ the Note and 4G is working so all is well. Kinda weird you have to activate a new sim each time you get a new phone...
I live in Puyallup WA and I have full bars 4G just like I had with my Galaxy Nexus and Razr Maxx. I used to get poor reception in big department stores with my GN, so far the Note 2 has gotten better reception in the same stores.

[Q] Phone switches from LTE to H+ during a call?

So I got my Z2 and am loving it so far. No problems that really take away the experience of using this amazing phone. However, does anybody else notice that the phone switches from LTE 4G to H+ during a phone call? The switch happens instantaneously and it's hardly noticeable unless you're looking at the screen. Whenever I am on a call, my phone switches to H+ rather than staying on 4G. I only noticed because I tether my laptop and the speed on my laptop suddenly dropped during calls.
Because you cannot normally make a call on any LTE network. LTE is currently for data only. There any only few operators in the world that offer Voice Over LTE (making phone call on LTE network).

Ah I see, thanks for clearing it up! I've never noticed this on my LTE-enabled Nexus 4 so I thought this might have been specific to the Xperia Z2 only. Thanks for the clarification
I have a TMO Nexus 6 and it does the same exact thing. But in my case, I was told to switch off VoLTE because whatever my carrier is doing with their towers is messing everything up. So now I'm stuck with getting random/jumbled texts all the time. Oh, and sometimes my phone doesn't ring so ppl think I'm ignoring them - hella sketch, but what're you gonna do.. We both have great peices of fine hardware in our hands, let's just be thankful we can play angry birds in ultra fiiiine HD ??

Sprint/T-Mobile LgV60

Is anyone else whos on sprint/TMobile having issues where the phone cant decide wether to connect to a sprint or TMobile tower? When im at my home i have a very weak TMobile 600mhz signal and a strong sprint band 41 signal due to the magic box. I also can pick up the band 25 signal the box uses and my phone refuses to just use the stronger faster sprint signal. It absolutely insists on using the TMobile signal. Is anyone having similar issues? Even on wifi its causing network interruptions so i have to reload a page several times to make it use the wifi.

Mine jumps a lot but never connects to the magic box. I don't think it's enabled for B41? I have a Pixel 3XL that I activate (and deactivate my V60) when I'm at my camper which is where my MB lives.

Mine works with Band 41. Its a big one in the nearby city. It works with all sprint and TMobile bands. Its just prioritizing TMobile bands over sprint ones regardless of signal quality

I have no idea of this is related but.. I'm on T-Mobile, with T-Mobile home internet as well, and for the last several days my phone is having issues connecting and the home WiFi is doing the same thing. I'm in a rural area so my signal is weak, but it's been fluctuating WILDLY since the merger and sometimes it does seem like my phone is struggling trying to decide what to connect to. There's definitely something going on with the network at least in my area for the last 2 weeks for sure

Sounds like this will be happening until the transition is done/5G is more widespread. These are TMobile models. When mine was first turned on at the store it had the T-Mobile splash screen. The ability to access sprint towers was added via software update post merger. I figure once the 600mhz band is fully rolled out the issue will go away as a result of the signal being strong enough.
