Hi.
I've recently downloaded Textra to use it as my default messaging app, I love it, but once every few minutes Android resets defaults to the stock app. If I disable the stock app, then it'll reset it to Hangouts instead. I'd rather not have to disable Hangouts as well since I use it frequently for work. This happened with a couple of other 3rd party apps I had too. Any ideas on why is this happening?
My device is a Huawei Ascend P6, running B508 stock ROM with Android 4.4.2 (rooted).
Thanks.
EDIT: I've tried disabling the stock app and uninstalling Hangouts. Textra is the ONLY app installed that handles SMS's and Android still asks me to make it the default app!!!!!
Anyone?

I have a galaxy s3 and have been using it for the past 2 weeks. The default messaging app is not functioning properly.
Even though there are several messages and conversations in the inbox, it shows an empty inbox! After waitin for a minute or two, the messages appear. But it takes a very long time to open a single conversation. [conversations do not have more than 100 texts, there are only 6 conversations].
And sometimes, i just get a dialogue box "Messaging has stopped working". And then i'm not able to open the messaging app at all.
Restarting the phone solves the problem temporarily. The same problem starts again after a couple of hours of restarting.
Does this happen in all GS3s? All the apps are up to date. Clearing the ram doesnt help. What do i do ?
(1) are you rooted or anything
(2) did you try to delete the data/cache of the messaging app in the Application Management settings? (this might delete your sms tough)
(3) did you try a factory reset?
I never had problems with the stock SMS app though.

Rooted: No. I'm running the default rom.
Factory reset: I'm facing this problem since the last factory reset only. It was fine before that.
Cache files: No. I did not clear any files. I'll try clearing the 'data'.
You could try an alternative app such as gosms which u have used before on my old HTC desire as I hated the default messages app. It is a good app allowing you to theme and the such. Though personally I prefer the new Samsung app. But if I was having problems that would be my first port of call.

I want a different SMS app different than TW or Hangouts (which happen to be the only two SMS apps that work on my device). I can read all my texts right away when I open the new 3rd party app, then when I click on anything and go back to the inbox all the texts disappear. Ive never sent a text sucessfully in any third party app, my contacts never show up either. Im rooted and I deleted the stock TW app and was very happy with Hangouts for awhile, but then I ran into some bootloop trouble and had to reset my phone via safestrap. Then the stock app magically reappeared and from then on no 3rd party SMS client will work.
Thanks
Hello all, I have an unlocked att sgh-i717 rooted with beanstalk-4.4.285-20140426-quincyatt, and wanted to know is there a way i can use the regular messaging app instead of the hangouts. Hangouts keeps force closing when i try to send a pic or when i text its really annoying i never used hangouts before and now that i rooted it i'm having this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just uninstall hangouts, and use the stock one.
You can also use handcent. It's a very popular stock replacement.
I have tried using K-9 Email app and TextSecure and hello sms. All of the three seems to stop running after a while in the background. So if I install the any of the 3 and then set it up and it works fine. But then I switch to another app or do something else or not use the phone for a while they stop working. I have tested this and it seems like android os is terminating the process after a while (none of the apps remain in the running apps list on system settings). So is it possible to get these apps to work? By work I mean get notifications if I receive a text or a new email. Also the builtin gmail app and Hangouts and Stock Messaging apps work perfectly fine, no issues.
can you check this post, it worked for me

Hello,
When I use apps like Lyft on my Honor 5x and I try to text the driver etc. it tries to launch 'Hangouts' and then dies with a message 'In order to use Hangouts for SMS set Hangouts as the defaults SMS app'. However, I don't want to set Hangouts as my default SMS app but I find no way to clear the defaults on the default messaging app on my android phone. How do I change the default messaging app for apps like Lyft? I tried clearing the defaults and even uninstalled and reinstalled the apps but to no avail.
