hello
i have an Xperia U with bootloader LOCKED, and unlock allowed : NO ! is there a way to run a custom ROM on that phone ?
Nope... As custom Rom requires custom kernel...and to get custom kernel you need to have unlocked bootloader...so no is there is no way

I have been wondering what's the difference between locked and unlocked bootloaders? Is it about the capabilities that you are able to do with an unlocked bootloader or what is the thing between them?

Hi, its not related to phone performance, its related to flashing custom ROMs mate.
There are recoveries which you can use to flash custom ROMs on locked bootloader, but you will never taste ROMs like Cyanogen Mod, which is only for unlock bootloader.

Is there any way to install custom kernels on locked bootloaders? Mine XU's bootloader is locked (unlockable) and I'm running firedroid which is based on (if I remember correctly) FXP146 or 147, and those are based on cyanogenmod, right?

You cant bro, the only thing you can do is flash kernel for locked bootloader and install roms for locked bootloader.
So the only difference between locked and unlocked are the mods you can install (i.e. user interface)? So if I'm happy with my UI there's really no point in unlocking?

Stock kernels are set with limitations.. Whereas Custom Kernels dont have.
The problem is most custom kernels dont support 480p or 720p video recording like stock kernels.
I am having a NEO V with Stock Kernel and a Custom ROM (UHD 4.0) with Root privileges.
Depends upon the type of ROM u r using. Mobiles with 720P support give their best with Stock Kernels.
basically you will never see past ics (on a U) if you have a locked bootloader

Yes, you can use that ROM in locked bootloader as it is SONY stock modified ROM. Any ROM which can run on stock kernel doesn't need an unlocked bootloader. ROMS like CM9, MIUI are based on Android Stock ROMs and require separate kernels.
Thanx bro...

I could not do to much with my Experia U locked bootloader on GB
my phone is unlocked officialy from operator Bouygues !! if i update the phone any risk of losing the unlocking of sim ??
No, your phone will remain SIM unlocked. And if you prefer gingerbread, you can have it rooted for locked bootloader. You have it here in general section a thread explaining how to do it.
Cheers

To root GB locked bootloader, follow this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063029
Yes, you can flash a St25a firmware (.ftf), but yes, you MUST exclude baseband flashing. You have plenty of ST25i firmwares around, so why bother with an st25a .ftf??
Hello everyone
I have a problem that I can't find a solution for it till now ..
I have unlocked my bootloader for my xperia sola to install a custome roms for it cuz most of roms need an unlocked one .. but I always keep a copy from stock ics ftf files and its kernals to reinstall it if i do something wrong with the other roms ..
the problem is that these ( ftf ) files need a locked bootloader to install them .. so if I do something wrong during installing any rom or my phone goes like a dead and not able to restart I will not be able to flash these stock files due to the unlocked bootloader which I will not be able to locked it again cuz my phone can not be open again !!
so I want a stock files ( ics ) and kernals for unlocked bootloader ??
I am sorry to post something is easy to get like that but I am still beginner ..
thanks in advance
NO flashing wit flashtool does not require locked bootloader.
Unlocking bootloader simply enable you to boot with non stock kernel.
Sorry I think that I misunderstand your comment..
My question is what should I do if I want to flash stock kernal or ftf files with unlocked bootloader ??
