Hello
Yes, yes I know i'm a noob...but one that need help.. So please Help me and i proomise i'll thank
I got my Samsung Galasy S II GT-I900G about a month ago, I've been turning it off every night so that It can charge. Like a week ago for some reason I didnt and in the middle of the next day the RAM got to about 560MB/0.91GB and then after a while it got stuck while i was sending an SMS. I had to take the battery out and and turn it on for it to start working again. I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer or phone user. I dont know why my phone would do this. I have deleted all my apps and still the same problem so its definetly not a leaky app. It gets stuck and then i have to take the battery out !
My phone has 2.3.4 android version
If you need any other information, let me know and i'll post it... But PLEASE help me.
I'm desperate here
My Phone:
Model Number:GTI900G
Android version: 2.3.4
Kernel Version: [email protected]#2

I just have the i9100 not the g. So i dont know whats the difference in phones. Is your phone rooted? Are u using a 3rd party sms app?
looks like an iphone but powered by android baby!!!!
Try to figure out wich apps are actually using all this Ram with some tools found on the market.
After that you could delete those apps, or freeze it (with anttek for example)
If this doesn't work, perhaps flash another Kernel :/
Different processor

Try Androis Assistant from market
i use the stock active applications widget. You can check ram and 'clear memory' to remove cached processes. or reach it buy holding down the menu button and selecting task manager
From what i figured out i think this is not only active running ram, but includes applications you have used since your phone was turned on...not drawing any power,,,just in limbo (cached) until you need them again. Thus they start up faster and don;t consume extra power when starting up again.
settings- applications- running-- shows active background apps and you can see how much ram they need. hit the menu button again you can selected 'cached'. This will show cached apps.
Your phone should not slow down with 500-600 ram useage considering most of it is cached ram. Ram not being used is wasted ram on an android device
My s2 fluctuates between 280 and 570 ram used and is still equally zippy
If it happens again you might want to flash a different kernal or you have a dodgy app i suspect
If i am mistaken please correct me
@androidkid311: Thanks for your reply .. and No my phone isn't rooted, and I have yet to update it... and Right now my phone is free of any apps except for the system ones...
@staik: Thank you for replying... Could you please tell me about an app that will help me monitor my ram usage?? and all my apps are already deleted...other then system apps.. I cant use anttek cause my phone isnt rooted :/
@MistahBungle: haha Thanks
@umarian: Thanks for your response , i'll try it and get right back to you...
@IronMit: Thank you for such an explanatory response . I use task manager to close active apps and clear memory about 20-30 times a day... and when i turn my phone on i go into the running applications and stop all the useless apps like google maps and social hub and stuff... does nothing to help.
Right now there are no apps on my phone except for the system apps ! and i know i think the same unused ram is wasted ram but it freezes my phone so :/
How do you flash a kernel anyways?? Sorry if i'm being unbearably stupid but....gotta learn right??
Thank you everyone for your response....though my problem is yet to be solved
How do you flash a kernel anyways?? Sorry if i'm being unbearably stupid but....gotta learn right??
Same as firmware flash kernel in ODIN via PDA instructions with kernels .
or if you have CWM and root some are CWM flashable
like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357020
jje
You have to root to flash another kernel...I dont want to root my phone just yet...In case nothing works and I have to take the phone back... Rooting it would void my warranty :/
You can always flash a stock Samsung firmware with a different kernel or even flash a stock kernel .
Neither of which require root .
Kernel does not require CWM or Root to flash via ODIN .

First of all I know there is a thread for feed back of new ICS fw,but instead bug reporting that thread contains more pleas, hatred towards Sony doubt devs from Sony will keep on reading it.
So in this thread please post the bugs you've found so far with the fw.So we can direct this to Sony devs & if they care(they did asked opinions, bug reposrts about fw in Sony forums so I assume they do care) they will try to fix them
So I'll start
+.Very choppy video recording.
+.Big battery drains
+.Loads of older games crash after 30 seconds
+.No wifi direct
+.System is kinda slow and lag comparing to ginger bread
+.Not great ram management, phone sort of freezes when using more than few apps at the same time.
+.Home launcher lags comparing to ginger bread ones
+.It takes 3-4 seconds for Dialer to load :/
+.Didn't had face unlock after the update.Had to flash gapps to get it
+.Keyboard's keys are kinda smaller and not that easy to type
+.All the setted contact pictures are gone from contacts and only thumbnails are left :/
So far I've found.please post the bugs you found and help to get a better ICS fw
you will get face unlock when you open google play.
it's silently updating.
no need to flash gapps.

Games are rather matter of game developers not compatible with ICS I think.
this my problem :
1. Battery drain. If i used wifi, and switch it off...battery more faster decreased, have to reboot phone for make battery back to normal...
2. Dialer slow loading... am i used phone with 600Mhz???
I wonder, why there is no power notification widget in this update...
My issues:
A little battery drain, but ROM is recently installed so I will give time to stabilize.
Wifi is buggy. Takes ten minutes connecting one meter from the router. Wpa.
Any times takes half hour... And in other routers connects instantly.
Can be night elf kernel?
Notification led doesn't work for missed calls! I searched in the phone's menu but there is no option to enable it!

In GB there was an additional option to completely disable USB action. MTP/Mass storage + "Disable usb".
Browser kept crashing and crashing.
Problems with Google Picasa Web synchronization. The albums from my picasa account just don't appear when I want to upload new files. There's a problem with facebook-google accounts synchro.
Some apps shows 'segmentation error' when trying to move them to the phone (system apps2sd). Cleaning data, uninstalling and installing back doesn't help. Link2SD or other App2SD from the market does not help - a little strange problem, probably new installation could help
Sometimes app drawer seems laggy - in comparison to GB, which had quicker response
Poor memory management - GB seemed to run more user apps at the same time quite smoothly
That is all after one day of heavy exploring by my daugther
Hmm how its possible that the ics not running smooth by all??
Mine is ok, no lag in menu and homescreen scrolling (i use the xperia s home now) no lag when i open settings etc, app2sd is working fine on ics no problems (i use app2sd pro 2.50 the newest one) no camera problems no fc's or anything else, its all f*cking amezing and fast

I don't know if this is a bug or something... but the widget for favorite contacts is missing. I kinda like that widget...
I am not experiencing the camera, gps, and wifi problems that is posted here.

When you install it as a clean install it is faster, but when u update it via pc companion or flash without flashing user data it tends to get slower. So best way to move to ICS(or any other rom in that manner) is to do a fresh clean install

This is true people. YOU HAVE TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL FOR IT TO WORK PROPERLY!
The first time I updated it, it was buggy as hell!
I then did a clean install (repair phone on pc companion) then it was smooth running since then. Memory management is amazing, no scroll lag, UI is great, multi tasking is better... I dont know about u guys but im likin it!
OT: is the UI on this is different drom nordic? It seems that they aee hating the UI but I see no fault on mine.

Official ICS Bug Report
Using this firmware for past 3 days now,
1. A little laggy Interface than GB, but using a third party Launcher fixes it till some extend.
2. Video recording quality is not as in GB. Also is choppy.
3. Gyroscope doesnt work in Maps. Checked with Compass Application works flawlessly, not in Maps.
I might switch back to GB soon...
Its not as if im not fond of ICS... But for me, its still a bit RAW. I really like the UI, functions, etc however its a bit buggy on the 3 main tasks wich I use my phone(Wifi, camera and temple run)... Untl these can be fixed, I thnk im staying with gb first. Btw, I find ics not to be laggy on its stock state however, once u install mods fr system ui and others, it kinda lags a bit. Too bad.

I have been using Android phones for three years.
My current phone is the GT-19100, Android version 4.0.3, baseband version 19100XXLPX Kernel version 3.0.15-19100JPLPF-CL644992 [email protected]#3 THE BUILD NUMBER IS IML74K.JPLPF
I hope that is all the model information needed. I am afraid i can't answer the questions....
- What rom you are using? -and- What kernel are you using?
- Have you flashed any mods/scripts/themes?
- Have you changed DPI? If yes, to what?
Because I dont understand them. I am no geek and just expect to turn a phone on use it and then off.
Now for my problem:
This problem seemed to start, or certainly got worse, after doing the update to ICS about 4 weeks ago. Now no process can be done smoothly on my phone without a temporary freeze and the phrase, 'Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped' appearing and the screen freezing until I press OK.
I have trawled this site and others to find a solution and although I see it probably has something to do with google syncronisation I don't understand the solutions as explained. I have a very low level, functional, understanding of my phone and no real knowledge of its OpSys. I certainly DONT want to Root it. Sounds scary.
Simple 123 step guide to a solution in none geekish language would be enormously helpful.
Hi,its as simple as this
1.go back to gb
2.stay where you are
3.root the phone
I would say that my phone and my wifes worked better on gb.
Unfortunately you cant do all that much if you arent rooted.

You may try wipe cache / factory reset. Usually helps with problems caused by upgrade from GB to ICS.

After update from gingerbread to ICS the following steps are very important:
1. Factory reset your phone (if you have already done this once, you can skip this step)
2. Open settings, go to apps, then all applications tab.
3. force stop then disable every system app you don't use.
If you are not sure about any of them, ask me, I will guide you.
* don't disable message app, contacts and market.
4. Open market, now called Google play, update all your apps.
This step is necessary to ensure proper app compatibility.
Good luck

Last time you updated your ROM, did you access Recovery Mode and do a Full Wipe by "Clear Data/Factory Reset > Wipe Cache > Reboot"
Regardless of what your told or what you read.. you should do this for every update or flash.. whether its 236 to 403 or even 404 to 404 bug fixes.. its the only way to be sure.. then install/update your apps again from Market.
Try the above first, Make sure you back up all your data first.. SMS, Call Logs, Photos.. but if the above doesnt work.. Ide go back to GB and start smiling again .
My 2 cents ....
Like those here, I got sucked into the newer is better trap and settled for 404 because I just got used to it, but, like you, I was having crashes and issues to the point of annoyance so Ive recently went back to 236 GB from LPT and what a difference, faster, more responsive, slicker, screen is brighter on 20% than it is on 40% under ICS and battery lasts an extra 4 - 6 hours. Im currently on XWLA4 and its great.
But the worst of it all for me, under ICS, when you access Task Manager under TouchWiz or Go Launcher, its running about 25 apps in the background that you dont even know about or have ever used.. whereas, GB runs about 12, talk about battery drain.
Ive flashed about 6 ICS builds and none of them have been as goiod as GB, so IMO, I think Samsung just botched up a workable ICS, so we S2 users wouldnt feel left out when the S3 arrived, but IMO its one of the most buggy, bloat filled messy OS's I ever used, I reckon thats why theres dozens of Custom ROMs built on ICS, because the default Stock ones are a a mess and uncle Sammy cant be bothered to fix it because the S2 is obselete now, samsung only have eyes for the S3 now..
Im not holding my breath for a decent working JB either. Like all devs.. once they move on, thats it.. but for me, my next phone will be an HTC.
Anyway, Theres tons of posts on XDA to help you go back to GB or clear the data through Recovery,
Good luck.
Jokesy
Have gone through my Apps as suggested disabling all the programme I do not use - a bit of guess work as so many are not ones I recognise. Now when i try to use google play store - nothing happens.......I must have disabled something vital. I suppose I need to start going back through the applications and enabling them until the google play store works?
OK been through and started enabling disabled apps and slowly functionality is coming back. As yet not nasty message telling me "the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped". Will continue and report back.
As for rooting and going back to GB seems to me to be something Samsung should not be expecting its customers to do. Why can't the phone work as promised on sale?
Thanks for all those who have given advice - just not clear to me what the advantages of rooting a phone are?

Lemme try to put this as simple as possible (I'm a layman too )
When you purchase an android smartphone, no matter what brand, the company puts certain restrictions to its functionality. They restrict the hardware capabilities and stuff in a bunch of bloatware apps that most of us find useless. These bloatware apps can also slow down our phones. So basically if you take a broad look at the scenario, the company restricts (owns) our phones even after we've paid top dollar for them.
Now coming to the pros of rooting.
1. You become the master of your phone. As soon as you root you get "Super User" access. ( just the term makes you feel a lil more special )
2. You can remove all the bloatware that comes pre installed with your phone.
3. You can use a custom ROM and kernel that are for certain much more efficient than the stock ROM and kernel.
4. You get to decide how your hardware should work- overclock the CPU to squeeze out more performance from the beast or underclock it so that the battery lasts longer.
So that should give you a brief idea on why you should root.
I too had the same problem you are facing right now when I moved from GB to ICS. Cursed Samsung in so many tongues! I then rooted my phone, put in a custom ROM and kernel and I've been a happy man since. I too was apprehensive about rooting but now I'm certain whatever phone I buy next, its gonna be rooted as soon as its outta the box

Thanks a lot for the more simple explanation. I haven't gone down the rooted toot as yet but am now sorely tempted. In fact since following Jessie adice the freezing has stopped. I already use two batteries which get me through the average day of use........
When one 'roots' do you re-instal ICS and get the same access to stuff like Swype?

Rooting doesn't reinstall ICS, rooting just gives you the privilege to install a custom ICS ROM thereby replacing your stock ICS ROM. I don't know if all ICS ROMs support stuff like Swype but most do. Even if it doesn't come bundled with the ROM you can just download and install the app.
If you are looking for a ICS ROM with most of the Samsung apps like Email, Social Hub, Swype etc all bundled with ROM then you could try out the ROM that I'm using right now ( refer to my signature). It's basically the stock ROM look and feel with even most of the Samsung apps present minus the bloatware.

same problem but messier
hi..
i have the same problem as the topic discussed but mine is messier since i have rooted my phone. it started happen when i flash a custom rom (i suppose) from cyanogenmod but forgot to backup from the recovery mode. now my phone is running on android 4.1.2 with cyanogenmod version 10.0.0-i9100g. but the problem is i cannot restore all my application. for instance, i can use whatsapp but cannot access my google play store. ecven facebook is not working. everytime i open the apps, i get the same message.
Please somebody help me by explaining what should i do..
every help is appreciated.
Hello!
I know its a common problem for everyone. But I think my problem is quite a bit more. It drains fast even if I don't use my phone. One thing is my 3G is on 24/7. But I saw people with some other roms who open the data traffic for 24/7, bt still get 1.5 days service from battery.
My Xperia Go really drains so fast.I uploaded some screenshots. The first two photos, i uploaded the app use right after charging my mobile & in the next pair of photos are next mornings'. In between i just make a call for 10 min. Nothing else. Now say what should I do?
btw, i found just non-system apps like facebook, messenger & whatsapp which might drain some extra battery. Otherwise I have no other major apps non-system apps. I JUST WANT TO RUN MY XPERIA GO FOR AT LEAST ONE DAY WITH A FULL CHARGE
My Phone: Xperia Go rooted with doomlord kit version 14
Build number: 6.2.A.1.100
Kernel version: 3.0.8+ (I think its the stock kernel)
My pc operating system: Windows 8
Is there any better rom for me with pretty much less bugs?
Note: Give me an option without unlocking the bootloader plz

I tried BeAnZ/Google™ BeAnZ Lite 2014/01/01 and my battery life has improved considerably. But again I never had this bad battery. Maybe its a hardware issue ?
Battery drains super fast
Hi Guys even i have flashed with Doomlord for SU access and I am also seeing the same issue..
Hi Pias94....!!
Do u still have the problem or did u find a solution for the battery drain
Did u try the new ROM that was suggested. Please Help ASAP

Step 1:
1. First You go Settings--->APPS--->All Tab---->ECO Mode Controller/ Extended battery mode (Click Clear Data and Force Stop)
2. Then Again you Go Settings--->APPS--->All Tab---Setting.apk (Click Clear Data and Force Stop)
3. Charge Your Mobile 4 to 5Hours
4. After 4-5 Hours While Charging That Time You Click Vol Up+Power Button( after 3 times Vibrate)
5. Remove Your Charger and Again Plugin Your Mobile The Sony Logo With Comes And Charging Logo has been Shown
6. Then Power On Your Mobile While Charging
7. Then Go Setting--->Power Management TURN ON BATTERY STAMINA MODE.
8. Then see the battery state.
Step 2:
As ur phone is rooted like me, install Greenify app & add those app works in background even if u don't use the phone. May be Greenify will stop them.
Step 3:
In power mangement, press the stamina mode & exactly add apps like which u did in grennify. In my case Facebook, Facebook Messneger & Whatsapp were the most dangerous app. So i added those.
Step 4:
Use app2sd card software & transfer app from phone memory to sd card. It mau help a liitle.
after these steps i get some little improvement
Note: There's always some bug in other roms. That's why i didn't install any
hey thanks for replying ...
I was using ALL THE PROCEDURES THAT U ALREADY MENTIONED...
BUT I THINK ITS A BATTERY ISSUE...I HAVE BEEN USING IT SINCE ONE AND HALF YEAR OR SO..
EVEN SOME BATTERY APPS SHOW THAT IT CAN SAVE ONLY BATTERY WHICH LONGS FOR 1HR OR SO WHERE IT IS SUPPOSED TO SAVE FOR A 5 HR TALK TIME
U CAN USE " No Bloat Free" to disable system apps if u dont want to use...:cyclops:
I am gonna replace the battery i guess..
Sony ericsson is not providing a battery replacement , they are asking for warranty and all which is expired in my case..
Anyways Thank YOu..
Well try factory format its work for me
also always charge your fon atleast more than 55%

I'm having trouble with the same phone but different rom. I'm running CM11 on my GO and battery lasts about 7-8 hours. This is with some maps usage, 10 minute calls, 10 viber messages and some surfing using Firefox. I've greenified everything including Viber & Whatsapp. I also got Juicedefender turning 3g off when screen is off and turning it on briefly every 15 minutes. Clean master is also running in the background because I have to keep clearing ram.
Edit: oh, and I got No frills cpu control set to 200/800mhz Interactive/Noop
Going back to stock rom might help but then Viber "effs" things up and dialer starts lagging.
Any other tips? This piece of crap phone has been nothing but trouble since the beginning.

It's the screen that drains most of it, how long has it been on?
And it is weird because it doesn't show to be awake when screen is on which usually is the other way (awake with screen off).
Check CM thread to see if it's a known/fixed bug.
I updated to the latest CM11 and things are a bit better now... I'm getting about one days use. Which still isn't much considering most of the apps are greenified. Anyway.....
edit: and I've tried to keep the screen brightness at constant ~25-30%.
Dear Sir,
I am having Sony Xperia S (LT26i) running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 not Rooted Build Number 6.2.B.1.96, it was running ok and still it's all features are working fine only problem I am facing is some days later I configured built-in McAfee that comes with Xperia and after that some days later I installed Game Killer (who actually didn't performed well cause my phone was not rooted) but after that I am facing these problems...
1- While playing any game (Candy Crush Saga, Find the Objects) the loading screen appears and disappears which is very irritating and had not faced this kind of problem before McAfee and Game Killer, for Candy Crush Saga orange screen KING written on it comes and go without a fixed interval I hope you will get my point.
This was irritating so I done a Factory Reset and after that I again configured McAfee and this time no Game killer stuff, now games are working fine but when ever I open Gallary, the same thing happens in Gallary while opening a picture the picture will adjust first then without having fix intervals it reload it self (which I had never faced earlier), even all pictures thumbnails in gallary reload their selves.
Guys I need help I don't know if some kind of virus is doing all this or blah blah...
I am not a very professional user of Android.
If the problem can't be solved please guide me that a root will work for it and what root I must obtain for Sony Xperia S (Jelly Bean or KitKat) with no bugs.
Thanks & regards
If I understood well, you want to root your Xperia S, then try this guide:

I don't think the bug was caused by a virus anyway... And I don't know how to help you with this.
BTW, you could try searching/asking at the Xperia S forums on xda:

Thanks Alot..!
