HI there,
Since a week or two my S2 showed some strange, yet very specific bugs.
The bugs that I know of are the following:
-the 9gag app will open and I will be able to navigate through menu's but it will not show pictures
-My news app (nu.nl) will crash about 10 seconds after opening.
-I cannot enter my gallery, it will give the message that there isnt enough space and that I should remove stuff.
-I cannot send or download pictures/videos on whatsapp
As far as I know the rest works fine.
I tried the following to resolve the issues as followed:
-clear and reinstall the apps.
-clear dalvik and cach and reinstall apps after deleting them
-clear all cache and do factory reset
-clear USB storage and SD storage and do factory reset.
-change between touch wiz and Nova
All to no avail. When I reboot my phone both the 9gag app and the news app and the gallery will work. I can use them and they will respond fast and correctly. After a few minutes all apps will stop working in the way described above.
I have no clue on how to further explore this bugs.
Is this a hardware problem maybe?
If something is corrupt, how can I try to fix it??
PS: the news app (nu.nl) works on all my friends phones. 9gag also works on other S2's
If anyone has any idea what else I can try, plz advice.
thx
GT-I9100
vers. 4.1.2
kernel: 3.0.31-889555
Best idea is to switch to custom roms. You can have latest 4.4.4 Kitkat, so why are even trying? If you need thorough help, just let me know
This is a kernel problem. As Ahmed described, get yourself rooted and switch to custom roms. Otherwise if you want to stay stock, root your S2 only as it changes Kernel during rooting. Then tell us. I don't think it is a hardware issue. It is the bad behaviour of your kernel.
I had the exact same issue with my galaxy s2, even after installing new rom and changing the kernel the problem was still there.
After some reflexion i realised i let google play reinstall all my application before the bug reappeared. so i have made some test and came to the conclusion that the 9gag app was the problem, after uninstall it and restart the phone everything run fine for me.
So if you still have this problem try to uninstall the 9gag application.
Sorry for my bad english i hope it's still understandable

Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the following issue I have recently encountered; Application Defaults keep resetting. When the dialog pops up I select the app to use (for example, if reading an NFC tag I select from NFC ReTag Pro, NFC Task Launcher and NFC Taginfo - though it occurs with more than just this example) and hit the button to remember my choice. However, at the next reboot, all of these settings are gone, and I have to re-choose.
Here are the details.
Phone: GT-I9300
Android Version: 4.1.2 Stock build for United Kingdom O2, rooted (Odin + chainfire's excellent CF Auto-root)
Specifics:
Baseband version: I9300BWELK1
Kernel Version 3.0.31-566833
Build Number JZO54K.I9300XXELL4
Applications removed from O2 build(uninstall updates, disable, remove apk, reboot):
Amazon MP3
Top 40 Chart
eBay
Is the problem reproducible? Yes, a reboot resets the defaults
Have you wiped and reflashed? Yes, twice, and the problem still occurs prior to re-root and prior to removing the bloatware.
Anything else we should know about? Yes, I'm running Droidwall, and have disabled (not uninstalled) the following:
Yahoo! News
Yahoo! Finance
Video Hub
Samsung TTS (lightflow issues)
Samsung Push Service
Samsung Backup Provider
S Suggest
Game Hub.
Anything else?
Yeah, I suspect it isn't relevant, but I have a Cryptonite partition on my SD card, mounted on the internal card for things like bank statements.
So ...
Has anyone encountered this problem before (bearing in mind a wipe and reflash didn't help), or - if not - can they point me in the direction of someone who might be able to help?
P.S. I've been going down the route of a SQLite problem, but have hit a knowledge wall (specifically my own lack of it!)
P.P.S Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Though I have no idea of your problem..I like the way you have put your question..I hope someone will be able to answer it..
Most probably the settings are not being written into the data partition properly or the sqlite database gets deleted after every reboot. .

Thanks! I used to help out over on experts-exchange, and one of my pet hates was threads like "Hai, my router duzent work, plz help!", so I tried to avoid doing that to you.
Yeah, the db not being written properly was my first guess, but I lack the in-depth knowledge of Android to debug it further.
Re: [Q] Application defaults keep resetting.
Ok. Here's an update. I started getting more problems, apps would update but after the next reboot would revert back to their older versions.
Suspecting a permissions problem I walked through /. but nothing was amiss so I traced the date the problem started to the same day I installed 'root app delete' by TOPDEV from the market.
I uninstalled that and, voilĂ , all working again. I'll let the developer know, but otherwise consider this myth busted. Uh... I mean problem solved!

Hi all, I have a real strange problem I cannot underststand.
Since two or three days, my S3 has been freezing every few minutes.
I restored factory settings and installed latest italian original firmware without root or anything.
I powered it up and, after having logged in to Google during the initial setup, my Phone freezes.
I thought it was a hardware problem, but, after trying and trying, I discovered that if I toggle off Syncing, everything works fine.
Any idea?
I am going to try a custom rom, because I cannot really understand the problem.
My stock is: I9300XXEMA2_I9300ITVEMA1_ITV
TIA

did you try to switch off certain parts that are synced (e.g. contacts, calendar etc.) to isolate the problem?
Yes, it could be caused by Picasa... but not sure at all

well try to deactivate only Picasa and see, maybe it tries to sync all pictures and you got too many to bear?
I tried, no success
Try clearing Google services framework data, and all Google app data, or remove Google account and wipe cache/dalvik then add account again

I've got the exact problem, but since I turned sync off (by the pulling-down menu) my SGS3 has managed to stay on for an hour without freezing. The very minute I turn sync on, it freezes again, and it does'nt matter what I'm doing at that moment, if I'm browsing the internet och just flipping around in the settings or using the Play store.
Samsung says they havn't heard of this before..
Have you tried the custom ROM?
Here is how solved.
I added the google account. I pressed "cancel" while it was syncing.
Then I deactivated Sync with Picasa and Google+ Photo.
Moreover I clicked "Settings -> Apps -> All Apps -> Gallery -> Clear Data".
In my gallery, now, I only see Camera Photos... everything is working fine.
Let me know if it works for you.
P.S. Custom ROMS I tried did not have this problem.

Hey guys,
i need help our here. i am facing a rather odd problem which started yesterday. whenever i tried to open gallery, it says "
Not enough space. Delete unnecessary items such as download softwares, videos and documents."
I have factory reset the device 3 times deleted everything, flashed using ODIN but no avail. Any body has any solution for this?
I am using:
Stock ROM XXMEB5
Stock Kernel
Stock Recovery
EDIT: Finally Solved the Problem. The phone was not resetting properly, so for users facing this problem there are 2 possible solutions:
1. Flash stock rom, goto stock recovery and from there wipe data if CWM does not do it properly (In my case CWM did not do it properly)
2. The other solution, the info i figured out was that it had to do something with a folder in Android/Data directory. Try to delete folders one by one to see if this fixes the error

I recently updated OTA to 4.1.2 and have suddenly got this same problem today, im not technically that great so all i did was save the files i wanted to keep and did a factory reset but nothing has changed. I can open my pictures in Smart Gallery Lock Free but im also having the problem that nothing deteles properly, everything i delete re-appears when i re enter Smart Gallery
I have tried removing the files directly from "My Files" but it will only work on the extSdCard not sdcard0 its says deleted but doesnt go anywhere.
I have looked at your point 2. but i dont know what i can delete without making things worse
Hope somebody can help

well, this worked for me. how can i use instagram now?
whenever i reinstall instagram the issue with the gallery comes back.
My device is SGS2 INTERNATIONAL and rooted, and also uninstalled few preinstalled apps for personal needs and more RAM. Few days ago, i did CLEAR DATA and FORCE STOP of few downloaded apps and preinstalled apps as device memory was getting low and device was slowing down. But after that, i am not able to open Gallery and also Camera force close after few seconds (using ZOOM CAMERA as i uninstalled the preloaded camera app). Also having "android.process.media" stoping problem. Screenshot are not saved becuse gallery is not accessable and message display as "USB Storage is in use" (and also i am not using any microSD cards).
So need serious help as my Call Ringtone does not ring and no vibration as well, but message tones are working. I cant access Device Ringtone setting, i tried market Ringtone app but even tht app dont work. Also tried market Gallery app but useless.
Tried cache clearence and reboot as well for Gallery, Camera and Setting.
So need serious help as i am missing important calls and having problems with the device. Thnx

Download and flash the official firmware using Odin.
Also don't forget to backup the data before flashing.

thnx.bt flashing new firmware is the most last option for me.
give me some other solution except flashing. and also wht abt factory setting restore.
Doing a clean install (with a wipe) of stock as suggested by the previous poster is a sound idea, you'd do well to do exactly that (if you want to fix your problems, that is).

comee on guyz, no other solution except new stock flashing.
plz do tell me if u got some solution.
thnx
Do a factory reset then. You're doing that whether you flash anything or not. You either flash + factory reset or factory reset on its own (which might not work). They're the possible fixes, you not wanting to do those things doesn't change the fix.
That means i am stuck with Flashing only.
Thanks for your support but i will try to find out some solution.
One more thing, i deleted the two files application-support.apk and application-support.odx , so can these two files cuase such problem (as on xda-forum i learned that by deleting these files, "android.process.media stop" problem can be solved easily with out de-stabling the ROM)

hi. what about flashing kitkat 4.4. will it be oka.
or i should flash only official rom. wht u suggest
Stock rom first, then if you want to put a custom rom on you can do that. The first thing is to get the phone working normally again I.E no FC's.
I dont know what the problem is and it is driving me crazy, i tried flashing stock rom, a couple of custom roms and the usual fixes i came upon such as android web view or clearing cache and data do nothing. I even checked for bad blocks, the internal and external memory both. The apps that usually crash are facebook messenger, settings, gallery and plenty of others until i restart my phone when they start working for a couple of hours and then crash again. I also lose network sometimes and my alarm does not go off. I am desperate, if anyone has experience with this, your help of any kind would be kindly appreciated.
Just a slight update on the situation, reflashed a stock rom again, still the same problem, gapps crashing, instagram and many other apps, i noticed my gallery wont save pictures either of screenshots or from camera when the problem occurs
Since there is no help for me, does anyone know something i can discover the reason for the crashing, a logger or something like that? I tried watchdog but it also crashes and doesnt provide me with a log
I used logcat to log the errors, but i dont know what they tell, i notice many are sqlite database and sth like that
Did you find a solution? I have the same issue...
I found a lot of those questions but all of them remain unanswered or there are answers like wipe all cache and stuff.
It's really weird, cause this problem is still unanswered, and device doesn't matter, I have a Huawei, for example.

I'm not going to be of any help but I've got the same issue as well right now down to gallery not saving pics. It's frustrating as hell. Ironically,c the apps I use that might help out are crashing. I'm doing the 'turn off, empty cache etc but now I'm going to try re installing busy box pro. Don't ask me, it's a shot in the dark. Why is there nobody out there?
Oh by the way I have a Samsung A5 2017. Custom Rom Revolution
One thing I did prior to flashing Revolution was to remove bloatware with a script.
Have same problem with a ZTE Blade L2, I try flash custom recovery via fastboot and I received this error: partition 'recovery' not support flash. When clear data and cache, the system boot with all files and info, if deleted some files from de internal memory, reboot and the files still remian in the internal memory. Look like the internal memory is blocked and unable to write data. Going to search about his error
