Hi,
I Just created a campaing at gofund.me/fh23dk for buy a Samsung Phone for reverse engineer the way it talk with Gear FIT.
The idea is to create an open API to use the device in any Android (including OnePlus One) without limitations.
The steps are:
- Buy a phone with all funds received.
- Reverse engineer comunication between gear FIT and Samsung phone.
- Create an OPEN Library for comunicate with it.
- Create a gear fit manager that accepts any phone (open software).
If you want to collaborate, please enter at the url gofund.me/fh23dk and donate.
Thanks in advance, and excuse my english.
so you think that people will give money to an user that nobody now, have created his account this month, and with 1 post ? better ask for a galaxy s5 in the street...

There will be an first time for all, I am not asking for a lot of money only the neccesary to develop this. If you can't collaborate with money you can help in other ways, if you have a Galaxy phone and a SGF you can follow those steps:
- root your phone.
- Delete everithing about SGF on your phone.
- Reset your SGF.
- Log Bluetooth comunication using a BT sniffer (pairing, sync and the ever fist time you open gear Fit Manager).
- Send me the logs.
I also own a Android Blog in spanish, nuevoandroid.com I know is not too much but it have some reputation in Spanish comunity.
You can also invite other people that trust in humanity
Thanks
Segnini, could you link the app? I didn't find it as BT sniffer.
I dont want to give someone money for this, who i don't know, but im more than happy to give you BT logs.

Thanks! its a start point
Please enable Bluetooth log in developer options (you dont need a sniffer, Android have it, what a detail )
Follow these steps: stackoverflow.com/questions/23877761/sniffing-logging-your-own-android-bluetooth-traffic (Android 4.4+)
Thanks for your help.
Drop me your mail address in private. I got the log.

PM Sent !
If you want anything to test or check, just write PM. I have Gear Fit and LG G3.
I have news, @kazmer sent me a log from bluetooth sniffing tool (embeded in Android at dev tools) but it only contains the first sync.
I need someone with a Galaxy phone compatible with Gear that send me a log of the proccess of sync Heart Rate and fitness info with the device.
Follow these instructions to enable BT log: stackoverflow.com/questions/23877761/sniffing-logging-your-own-android-bluetooth-traffic

I don't think so.
What about to buy used mobile or tablet. For example S3 (I9300) is supported and it's not expensive. You can buy one under 130€. It's more better then 500€ which is maybe impossible to reach.
I mean for this step, we need an S5. And not that segnini75's project need an S5
(sorry my english is not the best)
It won't be wise to debug/sniff/backtrack something on a hacked DIY setup and hoping that you will get a 100% accurate result.
So, anyone still active here with an S5 please log your BT connection as segnini75 asked here:

Guys, I can do this sniffing on one Galaxy S5 which has my friend. But I'll need a detailed tutorial how to do it. Right now I don't have time to read it and learn about it. And I will be doing this in a bar so I won't have time to read stuffs there. If you write it and can perform it in Saturday.
@pRo_lama
first you have to enable BT HCI snoop:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...n-android-bluetooth-traffic/23900782#23900782
for the best what segnini75 can get:
- reset gear fit before connecting to the S5
- enable BT HCI snoop on S5
- connect to the S5
- set up gear fit wit the gear fit manager
- do some measurements as many type as you can, don't need to do real running, bikeing, hearth rate, sleep, etc, just do some 2-3 mock movement.
- sync everything that doesent sync automatically.
- send the logs to segnini75
for the minimal what segnini75 need:
- enable BT HCI snoop on S5
- connect to the S5
- connect to fit manager
- do some hearth beat measurements
- sync them
- send the logs to segnini75
did i forget someting @segnini75?
OKi, I will try to do that.
---------- Post added at 11:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:36 AM ----------
One more think. You want to sync with S-Health or Fitness with Gear?
Thanks to every one I recently did an update at gofundme to decrement the needed amount to only 140 € , sufficient to buy one used S3 if any want to collaborate.
@segnini75 is there a way to install the S5 S health (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54159541&postcount=3121) on a S3, with working hearth beat function? My S Health is ver 3.2.0.0014 Afaik this is the latest what is avaliable on S5. And i dont have the hearbeat menu on my Note3
I am not sure, i was thinking it would work in any samsung "compatible" mobile phone but I can see is not working with all. 500€ is a lot of money if it would work in an S3 wold be a perfect unit for develpment.
Here is log from Note 3+Gear Fit. Sorry but I didn't get S5. In that log from one moment I forgot to stop it because i started to send that log file via BT to my phone. [emoji3] So data from there moment are irrelevant. And btw. Sync was trought Fitness with Gear. Here is link https://www.sendspace.com/file/fh03qv

Hi all!
So I just bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.0 and its my first tab. I have a HTC Desire cellphone, so android isn't completely unknown for me.
Even though I do have a few questions, maybe you guys can help me with.
1)
I have seen many screenshots where people have different background for each screen. One homepage, one called music to the left and maybe one called games to the right (just examples). And it look really awsome, how do I get it to mine?
2) It says it can have different email clients synchronized, but I cant get my yahoo mail to cooperate with it - I have no idea why. When I try to add another mail than Gmail (which I dont use) then it wont accept it. I did wrote to Samsung but they have no explanation or what so ever.
I'm a new user and cant post any outside links. I found the guide at a site called androidspot - how to setting yahoo mail on samsung galaxy tab.
3) generel tips! I really love my tab and think it is a great machine and can, in some place, be a substitute for a laptop. And that is what it is. I do have the feeling I dont really use all its function or just half of them.
Hope you guys can help me
And btw, I'm from Europe therefore there maybe be som function I cant use, like Move Hub (Damn! This one would be awsome to have!).

I can only answer your first Q:
Get this App --> https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture
Maybe you should try to get an OTA update from Samsung to solve your mail problem.
Otherwise flash a newer ROM.
BTW: Good choice for the tablet ;-)

To get that app, should I get into the app store or should I go through your link, with my tab? I actually had no idea we were able to download direct from the internet, thought we had to go through the app store?
What is an OTA update? I recently updated the tab, so I suppose I have what we call touchwiz at the moment? I have heard the word "honeycomb", is that another OS or same thing as touchwiz?
According to this site you need to upgrade to a Yahoo! Mail Plus account.
Or try this

You can use the stock email app using these settings. I will post a video on my blog showing step by step soon.

opening this link on your tab will result in a question if you would like to open this like with the browser or the market, choose market.
OTA means Over The Air. but therefore you need to have setup an account at samsung. can be done under settings - about phone (or something - last option).

About a OTA, how do I get one? And mere important, what is it?
And yeah, hopefully it wont dissapoint me ;-) So far I'm happy for it. I have bought some games and for some reason it seems to have some problem playting them. Sometimes it suddently exit the game to the homescreen, and I have no idea why.
Yesterday I received my Gear Fit from Amazon us.
My first impression is not bad but there are still some points that are missing or i didn't found them -->
- They are some standard answers stored that only can send via sms to not accepted calls.
Is it possible to send standard answers to whatsapp/ hangouts or facebook chat?
- Why its not possible to accept a call?
- In Whatsapp no photos are shown ...why not?
- Notification LED ...little point on the screen?
- Touch gestures... three finger tip opens xyz , swipe opens ...
- Training what about fitness training ? only running, bycing, Swimming?
Would be great if custom roms could be done for this device ...i do not expect that Samsung will improve the device that much.

Gear doesn't have OS, so there won't be custom ROM!
Gear are primarily focused on sports and simple notification. If you want more you had to bought Gear 2, Sony SmartWatch 2, LG G Watch or Gear Live.

1) Download Gear Fit Phone from Google Play. Then go into it and then settings. you can accept the call through the Gear Fit but it will answer on your phone.
2)Whatsapp isn't compatible. Ask the Whatsapp makers to make a SAMSUNG_CUP_ENABLED app so you can answer through your gear fit.
3)If you can't fell a vibration for 2 seconds on your hand your really not sensitive...
4)You can have custom ROM's, Just that it will be very very very light ROM because the Gear Fit has almost no memory, because of that the answers that you can send back to your SMS are from the phone.
The Gear fit has an RTOS, Real Time Operating system, Most of his things are from the phone. All apps that you download from GP like Gear Fit Phone must be on your phone and the Gear must be connected. You will get a option on your phone named App Connect where the apps are.
I hope I helped!
thx...phone working fine.

After messing around with it for a couple of days I have concluded that if you don't have a Samsung phone this watch is not worth the grab.
Maybe after a while there will be enough tutorials to have many things working but for regular people this watch definitely is not meant for standalone.

He does not have a Samsung phone. That's like buying an iphone expecting it to run all android right out the box. Without jailbreak it will not work. Most people that have this watch have samsung phones/tablets so the non-Samsung people do not get the privilege of what the watch has to offer.
As a standalone this watch is great. I have an iPhone and was able to connect it to the watch. I got my phone calls from my iPhone to route through the watch (receive and outgoing). So then I hooked it up to my note 3, got everything up and running on the watched, turned my note 3 off and now everything works on the watch (all apps except weather) in standalone mode with its own number.

I did have to do a restore. I don't switch back and forth. I just set everything up on my watch (through the gear app on my note3). And just forward my phone calls from my iPhone number to my GS number and use as a standalone.

Well when you get tired of the other phone maybe you will reactivate the samsung phone that you have I suppose. so if you use bluetooth and wifi you will be fine until you leave the wifi area. If it restores the watch why not let it restore it will give you the features you are missing so you can connect to your "other phone" when you connect your other phone after setting everything up with with the samsung phone via wifi/bluetooth do the pairing trick so it will not reset the gear it will just connect to your non samsung phone but still have everything in there

No. Not from my iPhone number. But if I'm not mistaken you can setup the email through your Samsung phone when you set up the watch and it should just sync over the watch data when not connected with the Samsung phone. I'm not 100% on that though.

In order to do that, you need keep your Samsung phone up and running. The emails arrive at the Samsung phone first, then send over to the watch as notifications. Basically, instead of making Samsung cloud a mothership to all things sync, Samsung made a Samsung Phone the mothership. Without it, your watch's capability is extremely limited.
I can forward my calls to the watch from my Windows Phone, but I can't figure out a way to forward SMS. That's still one more thing missing.
So, yes, I agree with OP that this phone is meant for standalone. Right now, in order for the watch to work, I need two Smartphones to support it, one half dead Samsung phone serve as notification sender. One as my normal smartphone for daily use (like when I need to do the payment, check internet, perform search). And the watch for convenience. Its S-voice capability is very limited and Opera browser is not very useful.
I know everyone wants this watch to be a stand alone phone but it was made to be a companion device. Samsung likes you keep you in their eco system. I know people have found work arounds but this is also the first 3g watch out like this. Rumor is LG is working on one also.. but it might not be running android ware. I guess Google does not want to take away sales from smartphones so you cant run google ware with cellular capacity. I hope that will change in the future though.

Does your phone carrier allow forwarding sms
I'm on AT&T. I have not found any way to forward SMS yet. Forwarding calls are easy and no need for any Gear Manager's help. I just setup a conditional forwarding on my phone so if I'm not picking up the phone call from the smartphone, it will auto-forwarded to my Gear S instead of Voice mail.

So let me get this straight. Be "remotely" connected to a Samsung phone can that be with Wifi OR 3G? In other words, you don't need to be remotely connected on the same wifi as the Samsung phone, just connected to the internet somehow on the Gear S which is linked to that Samsung phone? Am I understanding that right?

yup, its all in the cloud somewhere..... and nobody understand the cloud. I was experimenting with battery life and turned off bluetooth and used 4g all day, within a few minutes my gear gave me a confirmation that call forwarding was on and my phone said "connected remotely", notifications to my phone came to the watch just the same but a few seconds delayed vs a bluetooth connection.

Wow that is pretty cool then. Buy a cheap Samsung phone, no SIM and just leave on wifi at home all the time and it will send notifications to your watch....pretty freakin cool!
Since I have an iPhone I guess the only thing missing would be texts and imessage so hopefully we can figure that out too!!!!

@swyner You got that right. You can buy the cheapest comptaible Samsung phone and remotely connect to it. All you need is keep it charged at all times and connected to your home router and of course setting it up with all your accounts/apps you wanna be notified about.
Problem is, with that setup you cannot connect the watch to the iPhone via BT.
In order to do that as well you need to follow my method in the OP. And of course root your watch (see @cipherswitch's guide).

So I have the following on my iphone today. 1) both iMessages (from iphone users) and text messages coming through imessage to my phone number. I have 2 email accounts, one Gmail and the other is setup in the iPhone Mail app but it's "controlled" by Mobile Iron for work. On other smartwatches that work with iPhone I get all these notifications on the watch. However, all replies and interactions are done on my iPhone.
If I move to this Gear S alternative, I can setup my Mobile Iron work email on an android (this is possible now). However, it requires a PIN to get in and see and reply to emails pretty much every 10 minutes. However, it will post notifications of new email with the short description. If I am unable to "unlock" the Divide/Mobile Iron email client on the Samsung phone at home, I wonder how this notification will look on the Gear S? Will I be able to reply to it? Likely not as the Gear S just provides notifications, right? As for Gmail, that is easy as I can set that up on Samsung phone at home and notifications will come through and I will be able to read the whole email.
As for text messages, I wonder we can use that solution someone came up with for the Gear 1 and install that message forwarding trick that can relay imessage and text message on a jailbroken iPhone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784802&page=9 If this could be done on the Samsung phone at home, then I would hope that I could "see" those notifications on the Gear S......

@swyner Dude, as long as smth is considered a notification on the compatible Sammy phone, then it can be forwarded to the watch via the remote connection.
It is true that most notifications on the watch are not actionable, UNLESS you are using the more than excellent Gear Notification Extender by @gottahavit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/themes-apps/exclusive-to-xda-alpha-release-gear-t2941977
That particular software can handle all notifications and provide actionable notifications. However, you still need to download the beta and see for yourself if that particular client is supported.
I have extensively used the cloudnotifier Cydia tweak in the past, with my Gear 1 and iPhone. It was actually a desperate (but it did work!) way to emulate the "Remote connection" Samsung is currently offering. No actionable notifications, though!
So with cloudnotifier a kind of remote connection is set up between a JB iPhone and a Gear 1 running Null ROM that is being tethered to the internet.
Therefore one could assume that we could again use cloudnotifier in order to "fetch" from the iPhone SMSs and iMessages. Unfortunately there is a catch. You have to be able to install smth on the Gear S that catches what the iPhone is sending over the internet, and i do not think anything like that is available for Tizen OS.
If you can find smth, please let us know.
Hope that helped.
BTW, you may wanna see my previous video where i present my setup of Gear 1 and iPhone 5S.

Oh and what I meant with Cloud Notifier is can you install and use on the Samsung phone left at home that is remotely connected to a jailbroken iPhone to notify of imessages? Then if there is a notification, it will remotely notify on Gear S? I know, I know, a lot of cumbersome connections but may work

I will definitely go down that path IF I decide to go this route. I have been looking for a real solid Smartwatch for iphone and the Gear S is just an amazing device. I am not a huge fan of the size though.....that is what is holding me back from actually buying one. So I am now just investigating the possibilities before I take the plunge.

My man, if you want the SIM card functionality, the Gear S is the only thing available out there.
Of course the Apple Watch will be smoothly integrated in the Apple ecosystem, but you will still need to carry the phone with you at all times.
It really is a liberating feeling not having to carry a phone with you at all times. Yet remain (somewhat) connected.

Oh I hear ya! That is what is so tempting. I just wish in Canada we could have 2 SIM cards with 1 phone number so I can literally use my Gear S as my iphone (number and text messages) if needed. Will keep you posted

We have that in Greece and it is very convenient.
However you do not really need that, since the Gear S supports call forwarding.
It is rather smartly implemented from what I've read.
Check the forums.

Will that call forward feature work only on the Samsung phone at home?? If so, there will be no SIM in there, just in my iPhone (main phone) and Gear S. And if iPhone is connected to Gear S via Bluetooth, I will be able to make and receive calls from the Gear S using my iPhone connection? Is there a way to make a call from the Gear S that does not use the SIM in the Gear S but the Bluetooth connection to iPhone?
Anyway, I think the phone function is fine for me. It's the texting...would love to text from Gear S but have it coming from my iPhone phone number...hence the desire to have 2 SIMS with one phone number.
Anyway, Gear S just went on sale in Canada for $50 off so that may seal the deal!!!
Are there any apps for Gear Fit 2?
There's not much but a few.

They will be there soon!!! And lots from my team, Infinity Watchfaces. The app submission section of Samsung is currently down because I think they are adding new device lists. As soon as it's back up, you should see watch faces start streaming in left and right. Check us out on Instagram... We will be posting many of our new faces for the Fit 2 that will be available soon. Hey there! Just letting you know that Samsung has started to approve our watch faces. Digi-Glow, Space Dance, Burning Skull, and Fit Rocket have all hit - still waiting for Fit Trek and Cloud Fit to make it through. Also have many more about to be submitted!

Open the Gear Manager app, then click Samsung Galaxy Apps at the bottom. Once in Galaxy Apps there will be a "Gear" tab which has the watch face section in it. Make sure your Fit2 is connect via Bluetooth or you might not be able to access the correct section of Galaxy Apps. Let me know if you need further assistance and I'll be glad to help.

actually, when I do that, I can see the same list of 8 watchfaces which was always there before, not the new names you mentioned. Maybe related: I cannot find the spotify app either. I have the latest spotify on my cellphone and my fit 2 is connected. In another thread, someone pointed out this might be region related? FYI, I'm in Belgium...

Ah, yes - this could be a location thing. It takes time for the apps to trickle out to the different markets and they just hit in the US this morning. Another variable is the type of phone you are connecting the Gear Fit2 to. When submitting the binary files for the watch faces, we select compatible devices (aka: select all). This is what makes it show up in Galaxy Apps on that particular device. Right now it lists 62 devices - when the Gear S2 lists 126. What type of phone are you connecting to?

Shouldn't be a problem... Your phone meets the requirements. Hopefully just taking a bit to hit the app store. Let me know if you don't see anything within 24 hours and I'll put in a ticket with Samsung to find out the issue.

Thanks!
