[Q] Battery consumption overnight by SM-G7012 - Galaxy Grand 2 General

Hi all, My SM-G7102 (NE2 Stock ROM with CWM unofficial recovery and with most bloatware removed through TiBackup Pro) consumes 0.5 and even 0.4% per hour of battery power as shown by GSam Battery Monitor. Looking forward to see what you guys are having! Thanks
NB: Before removing the boatware by samsung and others I had 43 MB of "Free Space in ROM". After removing the bloatware its now 287 MB free. I removed many apps and services and the ones i doubted I just freezed for a while.

Bro i have remove almost all samsung blotware including some of the google blotware ..but my battery consup is about 2-3% overnight ( btw music player is always on with viper4android installer and configured) .. I think its ok bro ... I have removed more then 600mb of files .. Phone runs preety smooth now

2.3.5 ROMs (all) and battery drain

There is a problem in every 2.3.5 ROMs (I tested everyone of them...even gingerdx v13).
The problem is due to "google maps" app...
If the app isn't freezed (by titanium) or unistalled, the problem persist.
The problem starts when open "maps". After that, some processes of "maps" start to drain battery....the only thing to do in order to temporally solve this problem, is reboot the phone.
I don't know if is in the app itself or in the way that the ROMs manage it...but It's present and It's a major and annoing bug.
Please try to solve it.
A smartphone with android and gps is useless without maps! ^^
But old gingerbread roms had not this problem, im wondering why it occcurs now.

I don't know...I had froyo ROMs before...no problems with maps!
yup even i am having huge battery drains on the gingerdx rom...
i tried freezing a lot of apps, but was not able to narrow down the causative app..
I figured out that i get a lot of wakelocks by time service
MauriF , how did u figure app that google maps was causing the drain?
I don't have battery drain problems (never had since I logged out of Latitude).
I also tested EVERY rom posted (froyo and gingerbread) and they all had similar battery duration, and no unexplained drains...
Im on ginger dx v13, I found if you listen to music and then stop the music player, some services are still running and it kills your battery so I just reboot the fone and its fine, I also froze dps manager and google maps. If you read the origanal topic on ginger dx it tells that the music player drains your battery. People must except that there will be bugs.

The music player bug IS a bug.
The maps problem isn't. Yes Maps drains the battery but its because you have done one of the following:
Have GPS on
Have enabled an app to see your location: could be browser, latitude, search etc
Have turned on 'My Location' in Settings -> Locaton and Security
Have allowed maps to cache in background: check by opening maps -> more -> cache settings
Android needs to open apps to all of these things, its not the ROM as far as i can see.
Sorted it out for me on GingerDx v11
x drsood,
Using Titanium i freezed maps = no battery drain
enabling it = battery drain (I mean 3% each 5 minutes)
...even if the app is not started.
maybe the problem is one that Dan is saying! I need to check..
x Dan,
I charge battery than I'll check! Thank You very much!!

i have the "maps" as well as "dsp manager" frozen...still i have this battery drain...i know its not a rom problem coz many have reported that they hav excellent battery life, but i cant figure out the app causing all these drains
unistalled "maps 5.9.0" (always some services active...huge battery drain), installed "maps 5.0" (no services active!)
Now I test battery again!
Yeah that's exactly i want to say Maps drain battery so much only 3 hours my phone use up all !
mmm...it's not only maps....
this night in 7h mt battery is at 41% :-/
Check whats running services then. Settings -> Applications -> Running Services
Will probably tell us your problem

i dont have maps but stiil battery drain
and minicm6 (2.2.9) only drains around 7% battery during night
Thank you for usefull info.
I unistalled maps and now my battery last 3 times more. I was impressed.
I found that, using D4Kernal, the battery life extends quite a bit. I got a whole 24 hours out of the phone yesterday which is a first.
just a suggestion
In my experience excessive battery drain can be caused by 3 causes:
1)Apps running in background
Some apps consume more battery than others. the best way to see in my experience is install apps atleast 12H apart so that you can tell which app is causing drain. Google maps process does run forever in background. To stop pit, Go to settings--> applications-->manage applications-->(click on Maps APP)-->click Force Stop. This has to be done everytime you reboot your phone. For a permanent thing, try freezing in Titanium
2)Battery callibration:
While Li-Poly batteries like the BST38 in the x10 minipro dont need full depth charging, the battery measurement needs it.
Try this(need root)
Charge phone to 100%
(Install "Battery callibration" app from Market and click "Callibrate battery")
OR
(Boot into CM Recovery and erase Battery stats)
Once Battery is 100% charged, unplug and discharge to 0%(If you dont have patience for this turn on google maps with GPS, turn on Wifi and play music on your loudspeaker. My battery drained in 1.5 hrs with this usage )
Once Battery is discharged to 0(i.e phone shuts off), Recharge to 100% and use as normal.
After doing this I get around 70+ Hrs of standby in GingerDX v013. This process NEEDS to be done everytime you install a new custom ROM.
3)Ruined Battery:
If you have too much drain in ALL ROM's...including the stock ROM, OR, none of the above steps work, then the battery is probably faulty. There's nothing you can do about it but get a new one
All the best!
EDIT:
4) Network signal strength:
If the signal strength by the service provider is low, your phone will try to amplify it to achieve higher clarity. Unfortuntely this consumes higher power. Your body also absorbs some radiation hence requiring even higher amplification. My recommendation is unless you are moving around, keep your cell outside (On your desk or something). You'll get slightly better signal strength plus if some studies are to be believed you'll be more fertile and smarter and your heart will be healthier too
Hey,is it makin any big difference btween stock and D4's Kernel?

Get 'CpuSpy'
and check if your phone goes into deep sleep.
Also try this, Everytime instead of locking your screen, put the phone to sleep mode (I like doing this thru notification power control widget)

[Q] Weird Battery Drain issue

My S2's battery is draining when it is supposed to deep sleep atleast around 2% every time I check. I usually turn off my phone before I go to bed & switch it on when I wake up, battery drains 5-10%. Sorry, forgot to save the dump file from BetterBatteryStats, will attach it later. I've noticed dozens of "kworker" & numbered "event" detected in the app. Look at the following screenshots of battery history. Seems like the phone is awake more than screen on time & there are some huge drops usually after reboots. Done a couple of calls (total of about 1-2 hours) & listened to music (for about 2 hours), nothing else. Oh, I've noticed the following suspicious apps/game or it's components running in the background sometimes :-
Frontline Commando (push notification service)
Maps
Facebook
I usually end the processes.
What could be keeping the phone awake ?. Could it be the fault of the kernel ?. I've noticed this drain after updating to MIUI V4 2.6.16 (which came with stock kernel) & installing Siyah v3.3.1 later. This didn't happen before..
Any solution ???
Hi,
read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351663&page=7
and all the threads in the thread :good: (threadception)
the drops are beacause of the reboot
2 days aint bad at all - eventhough it seems you dont use it much, so it (the battery) should be (of course) last longer
freeze the not needed system apps and check your sync settings (system & apps)
greetz

No u can't freeze Google services framework. It is needed for Google apps to work properly. For ur battery drain related to maps, disable maps startup at boot using Gemini app manager or rom toolbox and set caching to wifi only. Also get rid of fb app as it is known to be battery drainer and better use friendcaster.

Heating android

Hey. I've got a problem... Due some circumstances I installed a new android to my SGS2 (CM11 Android 4.4.3 for Galaxy S2! [GT-i9100/SGH-i777]). Since that it's draining battery as hell... Well you will say that's a big screen and stuff... But it wasn't like that with the old 4.3 and older versions... And not just that, earlier it heated up only with super hard games so I didn't played them, but now a simple game burns the temp of my phone up to the skies... I don't know what to do... I wan't to stay up to date with stable android releases but it kills the phone...
What does battery usage tell you ? what recovery are you on ? cyanogenMod works best with clockwork mod ...
Well, the google play services take's about 50% of battery, I guess it's that voice search widget on the main screen that's impossible to disable, or just I don't know how to do it. I am on clockworkmod but don't know on what version....
I don't know this statistic is for how long usage but google play services can't (shouldn't) use 50% ... the voice widget can be disabled by holding anywhere free in the screen to bring up wallpaper - widget menu . just pull up the 3 dots and you have a whole new options to mess around ... including searchbar searchpanel . any system apps including google play , maps , services can be accessed and empty their cache or ultimately disabled ... just look for it in setting - app - all (not running).
[Re:]
Backup everything you have through recovery.
Wipe data, cache (Dalvik and user cache), this is done through recovery.
Install again the ROM.
Hope this helps!
Good luck
Could it be that one of my processors are dead? Because in Battery Doctor app you can watch your cpu work, and the first one is functional, but the second one is always sleeping...?
Try undervolting and underclocking. The heating problem is prolly because of highly clocked cpu ..
CM11 Powered G-Wonder
Did you try better battery stats? It should show you what draining your battery. In the past I've had problem with Google+. So I've just deleted it and everything was back to normal.

what are the best app to check app and services what kill battery life?

HI to all.......
i recently bought a lenovo K920 vibe z2 pro that i fully modded with lots of xposed modules.
This is my first attempt to mod an android phone, my first root, but i readed A LOT OF pages during years.......
But, hey let me know if i installed the best app used to check my battery drain. My lenovo seems to be quite power hungry also in indle mode........ and i precise that cpuSPY app read normal deep sleep times, like 80%, 90%....
i uninstalled system built in app ( lenovo) , that did have some strange low consuption modes..... because i only wanna use "regular" method to preserve my battery life, and not the built in od my phone
so then i installed:
WakelockDetector and seems to be quite good but i can't fully understand the differences between partial wl, screen, cpu.... wakeup triggers.... english is not my native language( i'm italian) but i think it' is more a (missed) skill problem....
battery stats plus but interface is not completely clear to me.....
betterBattery stats but it does not work!!! why? i found an xposed module that is supposed to make it working but it only shows semy information, not completed. the app is inusable. could you help me?
..................and in the end, what's the best app to use?
i think that wakelock detector interface is the best one, with nice interface and you can see how many times ( Xnnnn) a wakelock is attempting to disturb battery life.
i will hear yor suggestions, did i miss other good apps? Ah i installed greenify DONATION (i paid) but i still don't setted the app, i firtly want to understand 100% what and how to do things...... how could i choose the best app to "greenify" ? . i read that it's not advisable to freeze lots of apps.....but just some. ok but which? is there a simple list of apps that are 100% SURE to be frozen?
ONE LAST IMPORTANT THING
my smartphone battery arrived with about 0 / 3% battery life ( i i know that lithium should not be stored for much time empty...but i supposed it was a fresh stock, so no damaged battery)
could this be the reason for my bad battery life( it does also go down very fast in my opinion, not only idle but when i use apps.....)? ...too bad i can't change it, it's integrated.
i bought 2 lenovo k920... one for me and the other for a friend. His battery life seems to be BETTER THAN MINE:......... and he uses whatsapp and facebook. ( his battery arrived charged to 40% when i received the smartphone)
i don't use facebook but use whatsapp, have a MIBAND connected and i use pushbulled and WEBwhatsapp.
Check out "Amplify" on the play store. It is the best on my opinion. It will give you control over all wake lock's and alarms. Pared with "greenify" automatically hibernating background apps after use gives great battery savings. There is also alot of information regarding both online. I hope this helps!

Battery drain on 5.1.1 update for SGP321

I had installed the new pre-rooted Android 5.1.1 update for Sony Xperia Tablet Z LTE (Pollux). I faced severe battery drain even when the stamina mode and low battery mode were ON. I had around 35% battery level and i was chatting with my girlfriend on facebook messenger app. In just an hour the Tablet shut down itself and the battery was empty! I have disabled most of the bloatwares even google app and google+.... And i use greenify (Paid version) where i've hibernated all of the installed apps and some of the system apps. Still i had to face this severe battery drain. Is it the problem with new update? :crying: I had installed pre-rooted 10.7.A.0.222 R2E for Tablet Z LTE. It's crazy! Any suggestions? Or please can anybody confirm this issue? Thanks

you should make cache and dalvik-cache wipe. If it doesn't help install wakelock detector to find an app which generates wakelocks and consumes so much battery.
I usually have -30% while watching movies in 5 hours. Or 2-3% during idle period through the night. So battery life for 10.7.A.0.222 is really good stock, and can be even better if tweaked a bit.
Okay.. I did the wipe cache and dalvik cache... I've to review the battery usage by playing heavy games like modern combat 4 and 5.
Thanks for the suggestion
