So I've gone and done it....
Successful root, unlock (HTCDev) and supersu.
Was attempting to uninstall useless AT&T apps. Entered endless reboot loop after several apps kept re-installing upon reboot. The reboot occurs about 30 seconds after entering android environment.
Tried to factory restore - endless loop continue
Tried to use TWRP backups I took a couple of days ago - restore successful but endless loop continue....then htc white screen freeze....
Tried to flash jmzstock (odex and deodex) with jmz kernel - htc white screen continue
I can get into twrp recovery and adb commands are successful
Tried revone to remove tamper thinking that has something to do with it, but couldn't get that to execute

will try that as soon as I get home. wonder if eu rom will work on us phone?..... it appears that us rom does not work on eu phone. I don't suppose it could get much worse, other than not powering on at all I suppose. maybe I can restore lock and return it to att within 14 day buyers remorse period!

That worked! I wasn't sure about that eu rom working for a us phone but it does. after playing around with it briefly it seems there are a few differences from the us stock, some apps (maybe added prior to the backup) and a kids mode that i didn't have before. the only weirdness i notices was that the boot up wallpaper and sound were different and the htc screen seemed to be cutoff at the bottom, the word 'android' at the bottom was cut in half. and on the lock screen the camera icon was hanging half-way off to the right.
of course, never satisfied, i promptly attempted to flash jmzdeodex and kernel and that seems to have restored all u.s. at&t functionality including boot graphics and sounds.
happy about it........but confused as to why restoring that eu rom would work while restoring my own previous twrp backups would not..... did i mistakenly wipe something that eu rom had that my personal twrp backups and jmz rom didn't???
thanks for the suggestion!
after successful recovery, OS still blank when booting into recovery.

Excuse me if I missed an existing thread with this issue, I have looked and didn't find one with exact problem.
It seems everyone else has one of the two problems, not both.
As the title claims, when I turn on my phone it freezes on the white background-green htc screen and won't load the OS.
I tried removing the batter then turning back on with power-volume down but nothing happens. That hboot menu doesn't show up.
As soon as I let go of the buttons, it attempts to start up normally then freezes again at the same screen.
Last night I rooted my phone (first time I've ever rooted) and installed SolidRom Suite ICS Sense 3.6 and it worked perfectly.
I then removed battery, went into hboot menu, cleared the catches and did a factory reset. I then attempted to install the SolidRom Suite JB 4.1.1
This is when it loaded the white screen-green htc and froze. I thought it was loading the rom slowly (First time like I said, I didn't know what to expect)
It was 2am so I just fell asleep. I woke up to a dead phone. I plugged it in to a charger and have been attempting to get access to the phone all morning with no luck.

While rooting last night, I was using a youtube video as a cross reference to the directions I was using from AFs.
I asked the creator of the video the same thing and this is what he replied with
DON ,T BE SCARED (are u?)
this thing is called BOOTLOOP
the rom has problems OR U DID NOT FLASH THE KERNAL!!!!
to flash the kernal u need a working software and install an program called flash image gui
restore your nandroid back u created before flashing
DID U MADE A NANDROID BACK UP
If no
then u need to download the ruu image of your phone GOOGLE TIME keep searching until u got one

1-I didn't know I needed to flash the kernel if I was going to stick with the one provided with the custom ROM (is that a gross conceptual error?)
2-If I do need to flash the kernel first... I have no idea how.
3-I looked up flash image gui and all the instructions assume your phone is working fine so I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do with that.
I was so excited when the first rom (ICS) worked... guess that's what I get for then trying to upgrade to JB.
Thanks a lot guys. That noob video I watched to register on this site is so spot on.
update: I finally figured out how to fastboot. I keep trying clear caches then factory reset. I install new rom and then it bootloops again. What am I doing wrong?
I recommend you follow ramjet's guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
It will reset your phone back to stock (hopefully stopping the bootloops) and then get you s-off using the wire trick. This will allow you to flash ROMs without worrying about flashing kernels. It will also allow you to change hboots, which I think was what caused the issue in the first place. I think all the jb ROMs don't boot on hboot 1.58.
I was able to return the phone to factory settings. I then retried and now I get past the splash screen and am frozen at the next Sprint screen.
I'm still at it. I'll get it eventually.

Please lock
I have been playing around with this for the past 24 hours almost non-stop. The device information:
M7 T-Mobile (converted to GE 4.3)
No OS installed at this point
HBOOT 1.54
S-ON (Unfortunately big mistake not to take care of this during conversion)
Unlocked Bootloader
Can do adb and fastboot commands, but anything that I try to write to system (from a ZIP file either RUU or custom ROM, they error out)
fastboot oem rebootRUU then trying to flash would give me: FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)
trying to update the bootloader from the same package I get: FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)
I can flash boot and recovery images and that's about it, tried both CWM and TWRP to install CynogenMod, they both fail.
Here is the history of what happened:
Day one, I wanted to convert to GE so I did and everything worked, the device wasn't rooted or anything so it was fully GE. (S-ON though). Yesterday, when 4.4 OTA came, I went aehead and installed, everything installed fine OS booted to lock screen, but as soon as launcher was initiated, the phone would restart within 3 seconds (first mistake was to update through OTA, but I thought I was converted completely so trusted it). Second mistake was I said, well I will just reinstall all the apps since nothing worked after trying for hours so I did a wipe and reset factory and now, it would boot to the setup screen and after 3 seconds like before, it would restart, so I decided to get rid of whatever on there from fastboot and that's where I stand today. I played with it for hours yesterday and today and I have tried the toolkit, revnov (which doesn't work with 1.54 and rumrunner requires the device to boot to OS, which I don't have).
I feel like I have managed to brick it even with being able to send and execute commands.
Any help would be immensely appreciated.
EDIT 1:
TWRP comes up with a password prompt right at the beginning as if the data on the phone is encrypted. I never encrypted the phone in any way, I did have corporate email that had the right to wipe the device.
Try sideloading a Rom from recovery from your pc to phone

I know one thing never hit reboot if you ever see No Os installed while In recovery
That means the bootloaderr will be wiped
...I did this with my s3 had to jtag repair.
Best of luck

Sideload won't work, it immediately fails on TWRP (last log is updating partitions), in fact, when on CWM, adb wouldn't load the device at all (no devices listed), but when TWRP, it works just fine.

Try uninstalling and re-installing your drivers on your PC and try again.
I actually got it back. I gave myself a clue on here, apparently, the phone when factory resetting encrypted the device and I went through fast because the device would restart if I didn't so couldn't read all pop-ups. I went ahead and encrypted which is why TWRP and CWRM didn't work, tried many methods to remove the encryption and just wipe everything off. Nothing worked, the data couldn't even mount to be wiped therefore no ROM would successfully install. So I reinstalled recovery of GE build that I used for factory reset, went into that recovery and wiped cach and data completely and this time it worked (no other version worked before). After that it was easy to TWRP or any other custom recovery to get the stock ROM on the phone and now it's all back. Now I am back to completely stock with tampered flag and unlocek bootloader. Eventually, I will do a proper conversion to GE because I am starting to dislike the SENSE (which I knew I would) because of all the stuff I don't use and worse battery management and mobile data unnecessarily updating things I don't use. This was such a experience, as much as I wanted to keep the Nexus 5, had to return it.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
Is there any way I can get rid of tempered flag, I know I ran across something well hidden, ant link would be helpful, thanks.
what is meant with "GE build"? I am stuck in the same situation you have been, but have no clue what you did to get it back to life. THanks for a hint.
I meant version by build. You can find an RUU for the version you were on (4.2.2 or 4.3 or 4.4) and take out the recovery.img and in fastboot, flash recovery with that image and go in recovery and wipe data. I hope this helps.

I made a stupid mistake when unlocking my DNA and flashing a custom ROM (ViperDNA 4.1). I ran the rumrunner S-OFF which seemed to go without flaw. The mistake I made was checking to see if root installed which I'm assuming now it didn't. I installed Clockwork Recovery on it and booted into recovery and installed ViperDNA which gave errors. When I rebooted I was stuck at the boot splash. I tried an unbricking method posted on YouTube that required going into Fastboot USB and running an OEM Lock command and then using HTC's ROM update utility to reflash stock back to it which failed. I've rooted and flashed recovery to a lot of devices so I wouldn't consider myself to be a total noob but I'm at a loss here. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :fingers-crossed:
Black htc screen with triangles on each corner
Man I really need help. ...I tried to flash and something went wrong to where I erased the entire os and I continued to fix this issue because all I had access to was twrp(custom rom) and bootloader. then what was crazy is that it appeared that based on the fact that I was on 4.4.2 kit kat that I was unable to fix it. after researching I found a ruu that didn't have the boot image so I flashed the factory ruu with no boot image and my htc scrren with the status bar filled all the way up but it never moved off of that screen I assume because that ruu didn't have the boot image so I thought that common sense would be to at one of the boot images that I had to the zip file of the ruu without the boot image....that's when I made things worst and now im stuck on this htc screen with the four triangles...my pc wont detect my device and im in need of some serious help....can you help? can anybody help?
I believe i can help!!!

I had the same problem last night. I couldn't get fastboot to work properly and thought I was screwed. Here is what I did:
I downloaded a stock rooted rom and put it on a flash drive. I used my USB OTG cable and booted into recovery. I then mounted the external drive and flashed the stock 4.1 rom back on it and that cleared it up. I haven't re-tried to flash the ROM I tried, but I think my issue was an old recovery version.
Once you get back to stock, update or change your recovery to a new one and then try again would be my suggestion.
If you don't have an OTG cable, I'd suggest at a minimum order one for when it happens again
Hey Folks,
I'm out of ideas / options and sort of beginning to think something hardware wise went on the device but figured I would give the crowd a shot and see if I'm missing something.

clockworkmod v6.0.4.5
8/31 I installed NuSenseSIX MAX Rc3.02_052014, the phone ran solid since then up until last night. No issues or anything major.
Last night, I put the phone on the end table to go to bed, battery over 90%, not on charger and it reboots. Thought it was odd so once it started I checked the alarms and junk, and it reboots again. The phone ends up rebooting after it has been fully booted into the OS after about 2 minutes, and it apparently did this all night because it was dead in the morning.
I tried to do a factor/reset restore within CWM but the phone just reboots. I wipe davlik, cache, system all process OK. Go to wipe /data, phone reboots. I tried to re-install the rom file, it goes through but does the reset after a couple of minutes. I figured I would try a different rom, did the wipe steps with the same results and attempted to install a new rom(liquid sense) that I downloaded, it boots but part of the old os are there, and it continues the restart loop regardless. I go through the wipe process once more and I try to sideload a stock rom, it doesn't even get to the OS and reboots on the loading screen. Tried a stock ASOP with a sideload, same results. manually wiping before each, never got to the OS, just reset on the loading screen. I went back to the original NuSense rom and it installed, but still resets randomly after a few minutes.
Anyone have an ideas? At this point I sort of feel as if something went hardware related, but not entirely sure. No water damage no major drops or anything. Phone just fritz-ed out.
I manually removed photos and junk with adb pull before this process just to get my data, so nothing on device is of any importance anymore.
Thanks again if anyone has any other ideas. PC = Windows 8.1

You can try the repair feature in twrp for /data. Go to wipe. Select advanced. Then put a check Mark in /data. Click repair repair filesystem near the bottom. Curious if your reported size is zero here ...
Change to to ext2. Repeat process and change back to ext4.

Thanks for the reply. In a last ditch effort, I reverted the phone back to full stock, no-root, s-on through one of the methods mentioned on xda. And it worked.
My best guess is that there some something corrupted within /data that was causing a bunch of crap to happen with the device.
Thanks again!
Hi a month ago i flashed twrp 2.8.7 on my M8 to make backups and use helium for app backup (with supersu). today an OTA update came out, so i flashed back the stock recovery and started the OTA update. it went through but it hang at the white HTC One startscreen. after 15 mins i shut it down and rebooted it.
it showed the white screen with the small htc logo and then immediately wents black.
the power button does not respond so i did a "soft reset" (powerbutton and vol+) but that just brings it back in the unusable state.
what can i do now?
can be closed, after the battery drained i was able to restore it. (damn phones without removable batteries)
I'm having the same problem, I received a message last night that an update was downloaded to my phone. Sometime in the middle of the night my phone restarted and it's now frozen at the htc one splash screen.
My bootloader is unlocked and the phone was rooted, but have stock recovery. Also, my phone was encrypted.
I was able to get into Fastboot by holding vol-up+pwr, then when the screen goes blank immediately switch from vol-up to vol-down. I tried factory reset from Fastboot menu and also from the Recovery menu, but problem remains. I also loaded TWRP through Fastboot and tried Data Wipe, but still doesn't work.
Any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat. My rooted, s-off but otherwise OEM phone updated itself and now hangs at boot. (I haven't tried anything yet that would wipe my data.) Other weird issue I've seen (posted elsewhere) is that my external card won't keep writes made within TWRP (backup show up one minute in TWRP's file manager, then the new ones disappears a few minutes later).
I was able to restore an old nandroid backup I made and stored on my PC, so now I'm at least back up and running though with an order version of Android (4.4.4). When I checked for updates it says I have the latest. Hopefully, it will eventually update.
I wonder if my device encryption caused problems with the update. Does anyone else use device encryption? Did you have problems with the update?
