S3 resetted itself -> no contacts or data left - how restore? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
i have the imperium rom v 29
My battery went out and my mobile resetted itself alone. Now i have no contacts in the phone and all my data is gone.
BUT in the Windows Explorer the free space is only 1.5 GB from 11.3 GB, so the data was not deleted. I just cant see my pictures and stuff.
Maybe i can see somehow my phone as a device in the windows explorer!! But it is not so easy i think. Can someone help me please?

Just plug it into the computer and browse it like normal or use the built in file explorer.

my phone is no device like my hard disks, so my recovery program has no chance to find the s3 to recover my data
thats the problem

Corrupt data partition, you can dump the entire partition via CMD then use a recovery program on your pc. Search xda, S2 forum I think, for details how.
You'll find its like try to unscramble eggs and you're unlikely to recover anything useful.

Can you please be more specific what you mean with CMD or how i can clone the whole partition. OR for what i should search the s2 forum. I need more details for this search

[Q] Is there a way to recover deleted files?

Just realized I accidentally deleted a picture from the SD card on my Hero awhile ago. The card is quite big and has never been close to being full so I'm wondering if there is a deleted folder on the card or some way to recover the file?
As far as I know, only recovery programs as used by the police, government etc can recover deleted files. You can download loads off the internet, but they are designed to reconstruct the magnetic residue on hard discs, don't know if it will work on a flash drive. Won't hurt to try though.

This person doesnt appear to know what they are talking about, no offense.
Data recovery is possible (in theory) on all types of media. When a file is deleted, the space it occupied is marked as unused by the system. The file isn't actually "deleted" until something else has written over its space.
however, due to the random nature of writes to the disk, and given that you said "while" I presume there will have been many writes to the disk since, the chances of recovering the file fully are reduced.
recovery software: a good free one is http://www.piriform.com/recuva
http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm
Is a good piece commercial software, but the free 1gb trial should be enough to give it a try.
"reconstructing magnetic residue" is what "professional" data recovery companies might attempt I guess. sounds a little fishy to me though.
So you say I don't know what im talking about with recovery programs and the like, then point the op to 2 recovery programs. Recovery programs which, no doubt, will try to reconstruct the files from the left over magnetism of the old file.
Incidentally, I know when a file is "deleted" the memory sectors are merely market as unused, so new data can be written there, but still the only way of recovering them files is with a recovery program.
use "testdisk"
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
Actually there is no such folder exist on card which kept the deleted files or etc but don't worry just try a good third party data recovery software for the recovery of your data and files. Try Kernel for FAT and NTFS data recovery software for the recovery of your files.

Yes, You DON'T Know. And since you don' know please, don't give anyone "information". Police recovery software... BUNKO! we use the plain old software everyone else uses and there is no recovery of "left over magnetism" shXt ... A good way to recover deleted files from HTC Hero android phone is to use HTC android data recovery program, here's a good one: HTC Android phone data recovery
The data recovery program recovers data from both HTC Hero phone internal memory and SD card. Recommend that you try it.

formatted emmc by mistake

Hi all, was trying to format another memory card that i have because it would not read in windows for some reason,so anyway i inserted into my phone and formatted emmc thinking it was this other card but turns out i wiped almost everything from my phone(backups, music, pics) everything!! is there no way of retrieving anything, thanks in advance!!
Recuva might be able to recover data that's in folders you can normally see when you hook the phone up to a PC (I.E not in system folders). A Google search also reveals Android specific data recovery apps tho I can't vouch for those.

broken screen - how to backup?

Hi guys, i looked at some of the other related threads but couldnt find the info I need!
I want to get some of the data that is stored in the phones memory. i use windows 7 x64.
also if anyone has experience with getting a phone replaced/repaired by an insurance company, do you know if they care about a phone being rooted and having a custom rom on it?
they will only be repairing the screen, nothing else. If they will care, I would want to flash the rom back to stock, and unroot just case. is this possible without a screen?
where to even begin...
"I want to get some of the data that is stored in the phones memory. i use windows 7 x64." THANK YOU FOR SO MUCH DETAIL I CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY HOW TO GET THAT DATA MAYBE TRY COPY AND PASTE OR ALTERNATIVELY DELETE SYSTEM 32.
and yes the insurance company might care, flash stock for safety.
umm what more information would you like? the make and model are evident, the situation has been explained and the platform my computer runs on has also been stated. the rest is down to an experienced user informing me what programs/tools I will need to do what I wish to do.
ve managed to get the data i wanted off the phone my self by tinkering around, but im at a loss as to how I would flash to stock without the screen.

If you haven't installed the phone driver's install it using Samsung Kies and when you connect the phone it will automatically connect in mtp mode(if you enabled usb debugging you will get it connected as a flash drive) in both cases the phone memory and sd card will be mounted and you can retrieve your data.
Yes you will definitely need to flash a stock rom (or they will make you pay for it) since you can do it via Odin and download mode, you can pretty much do it safely without the screen but be sure to perform a factory reset and the required wipes beforehand to avoid bootloops(no idea how to do it without the screen you might have to guess your way through this).

I expect the same from others.
Thanks king, i was wondering if ODIN would be useful in this process. I wonder if there is a sort of 'map' of the cwm menus so i could carefully (blindly) navigate the menus and factory reset.

I am sure if you search around you will get picture posts here but I recommend you Google how to install a rom using CWM (be sure of your version) and several videos from YouTube will surely pop up follow their pattern of using CWM it will be more assuring to follow.
Hope this helps.

CWM is integrated with the kernel
you can't access its information from the internal memory or the sd card which you can access from your computer, you better flash a kernel containing CWM (version known ) and then try to wipe and flash it, and it will mostly be 5.5.0.4 if it was a recent kernel, but better be safe than sorry.
Also if you know what version kernel you installed you can check the developer page for CWM information or ask there for the version.

"ALTERNATIVELY DELETE SYSTEM 32" What do you mean by this?
Are you telling him to corrupt his Windows installation or was it a typo? :screwy:

He has given enough detail for the problem, your sarcasm is pointless :what:

hey man i had siyah kernel with paranoid android! i honestly cant remember what version though.
I tried getting my phone into download mode, but ODIN didnt detect anything. I think im just going to take a shot and send it off to the insurance company and see what happens.
they should only be fixing the screen and nothing else, so hopefully they wont care about the custom rom
If you don't see anything, well you could use the windows media center, I don't use Win 7,
but I know that it existed before.
Alternatively, you could use "adb" (from android sdk) for use when your phone is plugged on usb,
using simple command lines you will be able to go through your filesystem and
copy what you need using the "pull" command (explained under the adb interface).
And indeed, it works better with a rooted phone.

[Q] Recover photos after factory settings by accident

Hi! i need som help!!
With a mistake i did reset my HTC ONE X+ to factory settings by accident....
And i need to restore my photos, and is urgent .. But when i connect my HTC ONE X+ to my PC(win7) i do not get the opportunity USB Mass storage.. so i can't find the sdcard which is integrated in the phone 64 GB.. on my recovery program (Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery)....
Is it anybody in here that can help me ? I would be greatful if somebody could do that!!!

On your phone go to:

Thank you so much!
I know i am a noob, but then my final question is.. After doing all the stuff in you'r tutorial regarding rooting my phone will i then be able to get my phone to USB mass storage and find my internal sd card on my phone on "my computer" in my recovery program?
Honestly, there is no chance you recover your photos. Sorry.
By unlocking your bootloader your phone will be completely erased, from A to Z. Your phone should have been rooted before the "issue" to have a slight chance of recovering. Those MTP devices are a PITA when it comes to recover lost DATA.
MTP on Wikipedia
It is important to sync this kind of device with a cloud service to cover any chance of losing precious DATA like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
You can recover photos lost after factory reset, but you need to use special android data recovery tool, here's a good guide:
how to recover data from android phone after factory reset
hope this helps.

[Q] Recover lost app data due to accidental app deinstallation

Hi there,
I'm new here, so it's my first post and I hope I'm in the right place to ask here
Yesterday my girlfriend accidently deinstalled one of her favorite apps from her SGS3 (via Play Store), it's a game and all its game data is stored internally as it seems. No backup or anything else has been made before
She just reinstalled the app from the Play Store and opened it just once, but did not do anything else yet.
I've already searched the forum and googled around a lot, but did not get any appropriate answer to my question:
Is there any way to recover the lost app data to make her happy again?
I've already tried several apps from the Play Store like: Dumpster, Undelete, DiskDigger, Hexamob Recovery but nothing worked or even could access the internal storage or was just able to maybe recover lost pictures or videos.
Device info:
I've rooted her SGS3 I9300 and recently flashed it with CM 10.2 nightly (playing around with the phone while waiting to buy myself a new one )
I really hope there is someone out there who has an idea or just gives me an appropriate answer.
I'm not a native speaker so my apologies for every mistake I maybe made
Thanks in advance!

you also said the phone is rooted. enable root option to the file explorer and then you will be able to copy/cut/paste the data on the system. my preference es file explorer. menu> root explorer> mount R/W> set permissions to RW. then you will be good to go.

Maybe I was not clear enough. I tried your suggestion and searched for 'smurf' to find any data, now I got several files and folders containing 'smurf'.
I think the data was deteled while the deinstallation of the app, am I right?
Hard to answer this, but in which files will the app data be stored and if it is deleted, how can I get it back?
I found a solution, she did do a backup without telling me, 2 months ago...stupid little... my bad or better: her bad.
Thanks for your help so far!
Thread can be closed now...
Just FYI, without that backup, there would have been nothing you could have done.

Now that's what I wanted to know
I already thought that there might be no way to get the data back, due to the storage structure / filesystem and even to the fact that she reinstalled the app and started it (main data has maybe been written at that moment, so the old data blocks have been overwritten or so)
Really thanks!
