Why install the B148 update? - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

Is there any real compelling reason to install the B148 update? The camera already seems fine to me without the update. It's operating smoothly and I get great battery life. Why do it?

If there is another update that isn't a major one (KK? fingers crossed) then it might require being updated to B148 first. Just a guess. It is a stretch to think we'll get another update to this phone though but we can't rule it out now that Huawei has come through with this minor update. It might be that since they mentioned a 4.4 KK update is coming when the phone came out that this update we just got would be a test run for the whole process. That's thinking optimistically. Realistically, I have no idea but would be happy if we continued to get updates (any at all) on our HAM2's.

Low light photography . Usually when you take a pic in low light it tends to darken the background too much . This update helps in that department . Plus , these updates provide an overall better stability to the system , the "misc. fixes" (No detailed description) they put at the end of the description should not be overlooked . They test the device thoroughly at their office and made the small needed changes . Even though you might not think it's a lot . Always better to stay updated . If it wasn't necessary nor improved the experience they would not have pushed the update out at all . My two cents . Update !

Well I was going to put in my 2 cents but you two said it all. If you made it all the way to the XDA website and was able to register and post something onto form your more then capable of upgrading to the new SYSTEM UPDATE. Plenty of people went ahead of you already and another thread was created for that. Everyone is having success with the B418 update.

The camera was rubbish in low light, and now it runs much smoother. Not iPhone or Android flagship smooth, but good enough.
And again, everyone else said pretty much all there is to say!

My question wasn't "how" to do it, it was "why". What is there to gain?

Why upgrade from any software? What was wrong with Android 4.1? it runs everything. The manufacturer of the phone put in the money to update and push out the update for a reason. Not spyware. My phone has the update and i just hit the 48 hour mark and I still have 18%

Is B148 really an "upgrade"? Have any impactful improvements been noted?

If I hadn't rooted my phone I would install the update. But considering the lengthy process due to my root, I'm going to wait for the KitKat update.

Pretty much what I'm thinking, too.

It's not that bad, plus you gain a lot of experience during the process!
I can't say I see any differences but I know I am up to date.

Damn right u get a lot of experience, I had never rooted a phone; I always thought it was too confusing and was afraid of bricking but now I'm rooted and running some modules couldn't be any happier

Update
I know I can't prove it but I just want it to be posted that before when I was on System Software B126 MightyText did not work when the screen was off. Even when I had it on protected apps and wifi on when the screen is off while charging. I had to keep my screen awake while I was using the app. Now after the update B148 I no longer have to do that. I was also having some problems with dropbox syncing when my phone is off and that is also fixed. So the "other fixes" in the system update. The stuff that they didn't mention is the reason why you should update. Actually since I have had the update my phone has been running very smooth. Everything just works when you click it.. Weirddd....

AT&T Software Update

Hey, I looked around but couldn't find a thread about this (so please dont kill me if I missed one).
I just did a 'check for update' on my AT&T SGS2, and it apparently found one. It immediately started downloading it, without letting me pause/stop it. I shut down the phone within a few seconds, restarted it, but it started to download it right away again. I tried to find the process and kill it (it's apparently called Device Management), but it completed the download before I could. It then asked me if I want to install the update or postpone it for a few hours. I chose the latter option, since I'm concerned if this update could cause me more problems or if it's actually worth installing.
I have the standard ROM, albeit with some modifications. It's rooted, has the CWM recovery installed, and a custom kernel to allow me to OC it.
Has anyone installed this new software update yet? Does it have anything worthwhile? Will it cause me to lose my root/kernel/CWM? If so, would it lock my device down and prevent me from re-rooting it, etc. again?
Assuming I don't want the update, there doesn't seem to be an 'undo' option. I imagine I can use Titanium to roll the DeviceManager app back to before I chose the update and make it forget I ever asked. I had assumed that when clicking 'check for update' that it would ASK me if I wanted it first. Guess not.
In any case, any suggestions/feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

This has already been covered, it's the 2.3.6 update. Don't do anything other than flash the file uploaded here to your device using Odin.
You really couldn't find anything on this?
If you've rooted your phone and removed any of the bloatware then letting the update continue will result in it not being able to complete. It will leave your phone as it is.
if you didnt want to install the update, why click on "check for update"?

I checked the first few pages and didn't see anything about it. Later last night I found a couple threads that discussed the results in the update (ie: upgrading the OS to 2.3.6, which I didn't know was what this was for).
In any case, after the update downloaded and I postponed it, I wiped the DeviceManagement data (19ish MB), so I assume this will make it forget.

I didn't know if there was an update or what it was for. I had assumed that 'Check for Update' would do just (and only) that - check. Every other software program that had a similar feature would 'check', and if it found something, ask if you wanted to download/install it. Some would also tell you what the update was for or what it was updating. I assumed that would have been the case here.
Based on what I've found, it seems like the 2.3.6 update isn't really worth it, and has caused problems for others, so I'll hold off until ICS comes out.
I want mine to update to 2.3.6 but i can find anything i am on 2.3.4 and umnamed rom and i really want to put 2.4.6 then put the rom

What's the point of that? If you are running the latest UnNamed ROM then you are already on 2.3.6 there would be no point of updating to the official AT&T version.

Some people in here just amaze the **** out of me.
jury still seems to be out on whether or not 2.3.6 is worth upgrading to. Many users complain of battery problems and other weird errors, in addition re-rooting complications.
My phone is working fine and with the exception of the 'lock screen bug' that I would love to have fixed, i don't see any reason to upgrade.
However I'd love to be convinced otherwise.

Let the jury be absolved. 2.3.6, to make it clear, is very, very, very, very, bad, bad, bad, bad. Breaks HID bluetooth devices, has many issues, and is simply a stopgap between 2.3.4 and 4.0. Why they released such a **** version is beyond me.

Beta 11.1 - Update or not?

This question is for people in the US that downloaded the 11.1 firmware update and applied it. Did it fix / break anything? Should I try it and see if it helps with the rebooting issues?
I just want to know if it helps at all.

Been wondering the same thing. I actually read the entire thread on it, and came away with no real detail on what it has that may be different. I like to incorporate any fixes I can get my hands on, but there is too little info on this "undocumented" update. Folks were nice enough to make it available, but no one ever tore it down enough to know what it does/has. I won't take that kind of risk on... Probably best to wait for the next official, especially since that thread went nowhere, and was not too conclusive as to what this update may or may not do.

Oh OK..did only specific people get this one? Like Asus only made this available to people they contacted?
This is the thread
OP: Try to include the full release number so people know what you are talking about, specifically. In this case, its the ICS Update 9.4.2.11.1
This seems to be the bulk of avalable info on this:

In other words... not much. I thought about it... a lot. In fact I downloaded it last night, but so far, I am brave, but not stupid, I hope.
NEVER update to something that you do not know EXACTLY what it is, what it does(or is trying to do) and what is in it.
NEVER
Unless you LIKE having a shine "Spun Metalic" Brick... in which case, go for it.
I had the random freeze then immediately reboot bug. Really sucked and was really random. I couldn't pinpoint what was causing it at all.
Soooo, I gave 11.1 a go and all is well now.

Um, where would I see it? Build is 9. whatever.. It updated automatically after unboxing and connecting, don't see an update available. Mine is working fine software wise, no reboots or anything

I have installed it and have been running it for a week or 2. I know that it has fixed my YouTube buffering issue. It seems that it hasn't fixed the lockup issue it wifi issue, but I have not had any reboot.
I would recommend it.
Ive been running it since a half hour after it was posted and its been very good. Everything runs great with the occasional browser freeze( doesnt matter which browser)one in a while which may be my own fault because of the way i hold it with one hand in the middle and my thumb touches the bottom of the display.

Hence why I posted this thread -_-
And so far people seem to be saying that it fixes up the problems a little bit. If I can get more confirmation of this, then I'll apply it. It's an official ASUS beta for USA users only, so that's why it's not "untrustworthy".
Updating now.
I don't mind trying new things, and I'm still within my return window. I'll post if I notice anything new, but I have had 0 software bugs to date.
I have 11, but my tablet does not think it needs an update (to 11.1) Suggestions?

It's not an OTA. It's a beta that requires manual install. Or are you receiving errors on manual installation?
I actually don't get any response from my Prime regarding the update. It doesn't even try, just boots on up... will keep trying

I think you have to set the brightness to 50% and something else for it to go into "update mode" or whatever.
I've had it installed for over a week and a half, and it fixed my re-booting issue.

I'm used to searching on my tablet to see if it needs an update. But you said this was a manual.
However, when I got to the Asus Prime Firmware update site, the newest looks like 11, not 11.1.
I've bite the bullet to manually update to the beta 11.1, I will report back if it worked for me. I've had reboots/crashes/and lockups. Not too many, but enough to make me mad at this expensive 64gb tablet. Let's see. I've applied the update without a factory reset, hopefully a factor reset isn't needed since I've done a few after the orginal ICS update.

I've heard this came out a couple months ago, but my phone as yet to update on its own. When I try and check for an update, it says there are no updates to be found. And when I check my phone, my current software is 3.14.605.12. Anybody know how I can upgrade to the latest? Here is the link to the global update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ Lucky for you, since you haven't unlocked you bootloader or done anything otherwise, you can flash this in your bootloader and get the update with no problem.
Two notes on flashing that...first it's unofficial, so flashing it might risk your ability to get OTA's in the future. Second, it will wipe your data, apps, and internal storage. However, with those two caveats, it will work just fine.
I appreciate the input guys. However, both of you state I need to "flash" to do this - which looks to me (as stated above) it's an unofficial method of getting this update. I'm curious, is there a way I can do this a legit way? How come my phone did not take the update, while others did? How can I force my phone to update? I'd like to keep my phone as stock as possible and not do any modding to it.
If I really have no other options, then I guess flashing is my best bet. And considering the last phone I had that I took any time to mod was the first-gen iPhone, I have no clue what any of this lingo means - but I guess that's what Google is for. However if any of you have a quick link in mind you could post that might help me or at least point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated. I looked at the link posted above to the actual ROM file and it has some simple install instructions, however I'm not sure if that's all I need to do considering I'm still fully stock. Thanks again guys for all your help.

Run the 4.03.605.2 RUU. Let it boot 1 time, then wipe and install shrike's CounterShrike CM9 ROM. It's seriously a great ROM and super smooth in comparison to stock. Basically, what this phone should have been from day 1.

A few people got 4.03.605.1 a week or two after the 3.14.605.12 OTA, but they never mass rolled it out. I know of one person on XDA who got it as an OTA. 4.03.605.2 surfaced a few days later on Android Police, but I haven't heard of anyone getting it as an OTA, and there hasn't been a peep out of Verizon on it.

Awesome, just what I needed to know. I will just be patient then. Thanks!
Yep, basically the only reason why the global update ever made it to light is because the manufacturers like HTC like to "splash test" on a few customers, let them report back bugs and what not, at this point if there aren't any bugs or the bugs that are present are workable, they will release the update in mass to the rest of the public.
Basically, a splash tester knew what they were doing, whipped together that nice little "flashable" ruu package and released it for the rest of us to hack up for our own uses. Usually, we look forward to these little splash test releases because they do contain newer bug fixes, but they also contain new kernels, libs and other useful things we need to continue making roms like aosp or sense 4 work better
I'd say if you want it, go ahead and flash it. Its just not official as they say because it did not arrive onto your phone via ota update directly from htc and verizon. Although it is an official build built by htc.

Thank you, and I wish you well with the beta program, but count me out. THANKS to those that will take the beta challenge, but I will wait for the final release.
Even after release, I'll wait a week or two, to see how it goes. If it appears stable, then I might have a go.
Why the hesitation? Because Huawei did such a great job of tweaking 4.3 to the specs of the mate2, that I have experienced ZERO issues! I can run for weeks without any lock ups, and only reboot it because I feel guilty that I haven't had to do anything to it. I see so many of my friends having this trouble or that trouble with their flagships, with the "latest & greatest" specs, that I just have to snicker that I spent 1/2 of what they did, and I get as much or more bang for the buck than they did.
4.3, on this device is so stable it begs the question for me and my use pattern. If it ain't broke, why fix it? Yes, at some point, there will be an app that I want to use, that will require LL, but, the 83 apps that I have on my device now, run perfectly. I even went so far, to install a few of the same apps on my device, as a coworker did on his Nexus 6, setting the screen brightness to the same levels, then, running the apps side by side. MAYBE there was a split second of difference in opening or running the apps, but, both were smooth, clear and easy to read. Yes, if you ran a benchmark, the N6 would blow the Mate2 out of the water, but, I'm talking about "real world" applications. Is that split second difference worth paying more than 2 times the price? Not for me.
Huawai, you hit one out of the park, and the LL update will be welcome, but, for now, I'm sticking with JB4.3, until the LL update proves to be as stable as JB4.3
You've been posting the same exact crap in all possible threads regarding the lollipop update for the HAM2. While everyone else has been pressuring Huawei to release this update, as is deserved and expected from such a major company, you just go on and on about how happy you are with the current build, and don't care about any future support. truly unbelievable , we are all excited discussing a future update here, you should really go and post in the Happy owners HAM2 Jellybean thread !!

Actually, we all know his stance regarding upgrading his phone. He has at least a post in every thread concerning the HAM2 update that anyone frequenting this board has involuntarily become aware of. I see no reason why he should be constantly reminding us of it except obviously intending to troll!

Consumer cellular is not going to be updated. You will have to flash yours to a non CC mate 2 if you want the update.

I called him out for being a shill in another thread. It drives me bananas because this phone is buggy as hell and he's always talking about how stable it is.

Correct, there are quite a few bugs I'm experiencing. Wi-fi not connecting except after 3-4 tries, a few random app crashes and a few but annoying random reboots. Even if it wasn't for these problems, who wouldn't want the latest and greatest Android version on their phones? It's common sense !

I put this list of bugs in an earlier thread (I apologize for repeating):
- Audio cutting out is a pretty common one. This occurred when I first got the phone, then again after a factory reset. Eventually it just stopped happening both times.
- Google Calendar reminder pops up, calendar crashes over and over again until I dismiss the reminder.
- Reboots randomly about once a week.
- Switching from portrait to landscape is slow and inconsistent at best.
- That looping reboot that occurred during a random Amazon update a few months back (that did not affect any other phone). I had to do a factory reset because of that which is a major pain.
- The bugs with Emo (strange text wrapping, delay when closing an app that's in a folder, improperly sized widgets), which is such a hot mess of an Android skin, makes it practically mandatory that you put a new launcher on it.
-Pulling down the notification bar has become an adventure. Sometimes it's fine, other times it comes down and stops halfway and I have to hit the home button an try again.
- Unless it's super bright out, really long shutter lag after the update.
I know the thread was started by a Huawei rep, so hopefully they're working on fixing these bugs along with the update.
Just curious, has anyone having bug issues installed TWRP recovery? I have my HAM2 for 3 months, I am rooted but stock recovery, and I haven't had a single issue with this phone. No lagging, no reboots, no wifi or bluetooth issues. I am wondering if there is something else causing the bugs. Or maybe there are a few bad devices. That being said, I always welcome updates, but I also understand peoples concerns with a new update.

Having the issues I have mentioned above, I am completely stock, never rooted or installed recovery. So phone is untouched. I didn't want to mess with it because I thought it may cause issues receiving future OTA updates

Yeah, the Amazon app problem was really a pain. I ended up uninstalling the app entirely, being fed up with the reboots it was causing. The only thing I have never tried with the phone is a factory reset, wonder if that may help in any way

Question S23 ultra update or not

i bought s23 ultra . im on stock rom didnt update nothing yet . should i update system or not . Because usually when update system phone getting more worse battery life and peoples say right now april update drain battery . Will i miss something if i dont update phone ? Honestly i want update for better camera . Maybe there is way update camera only or what should i do
Definitely update, not battery drain or anything. They fixed important camera ''bugs''. However, some phones need some time (couple of days) after some updates to settle and learn usage to optimize the battery.
I would wait. Last thing you want is worse SOT. The cam update is part of the firmware.
I would say, update. I haven't noticed any worse battery life. The camera updates and security patches are well worth updating.

You have no data to backup those claims. It's just hearsay.

That is apple. You cannot think android devices are same just because apple slows down their devices on purpose after each update.

So maybe after updates worth make factory reset to comparasion.
I was skeptical from years but in example in my fold 2 from OneUi 3.1.1 after supdate via ota to 5.1 running faster without reset. Overall daylight use performance similar to S23U when I comapre side by side this devices.
But this case don't change my mind about updates and I want stay my S23U on the latest A13 more time after sharing A14 or maybe even A15.
Samsung will eventually force update no matter what. Might as well get it done and over with.
I still have s10+ as i give it to my son... Phone after all those OTA over the years is as fast as it was new and no issue with SoT, in fact sot is comparable to my 23 ultra... Maybe 1 h less... Still crazy good photos, everything works... I think all that updates issue is placebo and some legends who knows form where they come from...

Yeah I kept getting the reminder so I did it. Now the scrolling sucks in the Google feed page so jittery. Anyone else experience that? I'm not happy with this and will likely roll back to march.
