Just got the new kindle fire hd 6". Is it rootable?
Checking the system device, its running Fire OS 4.1.1 which is weird because my 7" says its running 11.3.1.0 but i think this kindle is the last generation and this 6" is the newer one.
The older one is rooted. Can i root the 6" yet or do i need to wait?

Unfortunately not, and I wouldn't expect to be able to anytime soon, if ever.
You can't.
I have requested this thread to be moved. And no,so far you can't

I tried doing some minor tests in fastboot mode trying to boot up a version of TWRP but the screen never turned on. Not sure if anyone is working on it. Too bad we do not have @Hashcode to help
It seems Amazon released the kernel source files for HD6 and HD7
sorry for the very naive question but can it be of any help in getting it rooted ?

Love this game on my Droid 3. I was able to download the version from the Amazon App Store onto my TFP but it crashes ~50-60% of the time.
Anyone having any luck, or found a version that works well with the FTP?
Sad to say but the HD version that hasn't been officially released (yet out for at least half a year) runs perfectly. I use that one instead of my amazon app store version.
Just google plants vs zombies hd.

thanked. also, have you ran this on any non tablet devices? i too have the amazon version from when they ran it for free
I think I read somewhere that it needs a qHD resolution or higher. So I think that my phone, an Atrix, should run fine. But I haven't tested it.

Struggling to find this
Agreed, I was able to find a copy of Plants vs Zombies HD 1.1, but after installation it just closes every time I try and open it.
Does anyone know a version of PVZ that works well for the Prime?

I installed the HD version 2 days ago and already went through adventure mode start to finish without a single FC. It definitely works on the Prime (as well as the original Transformer). You might have gotten a bad download.
yeah i got a version, mine says v1.1 and it works prefectly, been playing for a while now, i'm on level 4-2 and no fc
Thank you! I'll just have to keep trying I guess.
got version 2.4 installed, and works great!

The Optimum app with live streaming has been released for the kindle fire. Any chance one of our talented devs can make it work on the prime? Seems like it works on the nexus 7 so far as per the kindle fire forum. Here is the link:

I get the same error on mine. I know the devs have been able to "fix" the same types of limitations on Netflix, Hbo Go, and Max Go in the past. Hopefully one of them will be able to "fix" this app as well.
I hope a dev can make this happen. It would be awesome!

I don't have the apk.... but I don't think it is available for your device yet.

doesn't work on gt n7000
Works on Prime, with minor extra step...
See this thread in the "General" Prime forum:

Download the APK, and sign in. You must clear the app cache and sign in again on each run.

We need an unlocked bootloader first, which we do not have.

Will it take a lot of time to develop one?

Unlocking the bootloader is the challenging part. The dev's handle the roms and stuff. Root + Unlocked bootloader = ROM customization and kernel changes
ohh i see, well thanks for the info.
Hey, this is my first thread, so apologies in advance if there is somewhere better I should post this. But anyways, I love my HDX, but I am getting pretty sick of Fire OS.
Now I noticed the stickied thread at the top, the warning of "You will brick this device", but I am confused. Is that referring to the newest (2014, fourth generation) HDX tablets, or the older years versions (2013, third generation), or both? I have the latter of the two and if it is that difficult to root than I can just deal with it, but if that only applies to this year's models, the newest ones, I'd love to give rooting this a try.

I imagine someone is going to do it (obviously Amazon isnt going to support it) but has anyone ported the Kindle Fire HDX's "Mayday" feature/software yet for all Android devices?

It will most likely not work as Amazon can see screen and they read device info. So if and when they see a non-kindle connecting... you're either screwed or they will pass it off as a glitch and not accept the connection.
