I'm unsure of what changes were made but I was so excited to see "Android Upgrading" on my phone only to realize that it's still running 4.3.

I just received the update as well. It was small. I just clicked check for updates for the first time in a month and was shocked to see my phone found one. Don't know what the changes are yet.
I also got the update and I can't find any update notes anywhere yet. Searched through Verizon and Samsung's websites, nothing is posted yet. I'm guessing it is just a maintenance update.
New build number is JSS15J.I545VRUEMK2
Here's what I found about it.http://www.christianpost.com/news/galaxy-s4-software-update-coming-to-all-carriers-soon-110005/
So, I see it could help with the battery life.
Well I'm rooted and it failed to install so I wonder if the Vroot method will work with the new update or not....
Someone pull it from cache and post it

I'm rooted on MJ7 and the update failed.

I am also rooted and the update failed. Is there a way to get this new update without unrooting my device?
I am rooted MJ7 and this update failed as well. Im sure there will be updates soon. Give it time.
Guys...if your rooted and you accept the OTA you could brick your phone. If your on a custom ROM most dev's remove the files necessary to take the OTA's. Simply be patient and wait for someone to, in the spirit of the holidays LOL :silly: , wrap it in a pretty little zip package then we can flash it via custom recovery.
I cant get the update since im not on MJ7 and no odin tar via kies or vzw update assistant . Someone has to post the update.zip from cache/fota before any analysis/editing can be done.

Those of you that have updated do you know does Foxfi still work?
I'd be happy to post the update if someone will tell me where to find it. I looked in the cache folder but it appears to be empty?

Did you soft brick or are you just looking for the factory/stock image?
Nope not bricked just tired of custom ROMs and bugs...I am back on MDK but I will probabaly upgrade to newest firmware and lose the ability to have an unlocked bootloader. I have been flashing ROMs, kernels, themes, you name it...for years and I am ready to just have a stock phone that works all the time.
You can upgrade to NC5 and root via towelroot.com with no issues and get busybox and safestrap. All done with APK's, no ODIN flashing required. You DID successfully wipe and restore to factory MDK?

YES I am now on factory MDK...not even rooted or custom recovery...just like you would pick it up at a Verizon store.
Wow, that must be something new I will check that out
I downloaded the APK what exactly do I do? Update to NC5 via Samsung update and run APK?
Remove unlock icon on startup
I can't remove the unlock icon on boot and set my device status back to stock from "custom"
I used towelroot.com and SuperSu to root my phone because I was having issues with it. Now I can't put it back to return it to the store with my warranty.
I used ODIN to do a full wipe and loaded the VRUFNC5 file along with the PIT 16G file to successfully unroot, but the unlock icon still shows on the screen and the device status still shows "custom." After running the odin full wipe, I rebooted and few times and reset it, but to no avail. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172
Any assistance would be appreciated so Verizon will honor their warranty. THANKS!

The NC5 update is through Verizon but yes, update and then run the APK from towelroot.com and you should have root and be golden.

I don't think freeza 's stockish NH7 will work, it will remove the twrp recovery, and replace it with stock one. Which you cannot replace without a PC.

Can't you use freeza's rom then use Flashify the recovery or Mobile Odin Pro?
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
Now you might want to reconsider going to 4.4.4. You need to read up, there is a lot of problems with this update. The main complaint is a loss of signal strength. The other problem is that the 4.4.4 backup will have personal info in it, most people will not give that up. If you can get your hands on a backup, you will have to download it to you device, move it to your sd card twrp backup file. Now once you try and restore the backup, you will end up with a md5 mismatch error. To correct this, you need to get a root type file explorer like root explorer, then go to the backup file that failed and click on it. Now delete the nandroid.md5, and click to add a file and reinstall another nandriod.md5 file where the old one was, check permissions. Ok, try the backup file again. This time the system will ignore the empty nandroid.md5 file and install the backup.

I would try flashify first it will search for your recovery as well

If I had twrp I would give you the back up but im running cwm
If someone would make a backup then full wipe make another back up post the clean backup he would get what he needs and you can delete and restore the one with your data its a great idea for the ones to get the full update with out having a computer
Plus ive had no luck flashing from flashify rom manger rom toolbox theres some problem thats why goo.manger does not support our phone
I haven't had any issues on 4.4.4 signals been better actually for me

You don't have to have service to root and device. However you to need service to use the data for the wifi tethering. I'm on the OTA OC5 and rooted with wifi tethering >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159 <<< This is a link that will turn on the tethering function.

You would use Odin to flash and custom recovery(TWRP or Phils') if you have not already done so. Then you would use the custom recovery to flash a SU(Super user/Root) zip file and you would have a rooted device.
You don't need to use the 3.18 version of the app but you misread, "AT&T and T-Mobile Hotspot testing live(use v3.1.8 and report any issues please)", the dev just wants feedback from users on those carriers.

No, I don't think you understand. You use Odin to flash a custom recovery to a Samsung device or a stock image, bootloader, etc. Then you use the custom recovery to flash a ROM that is rooted or flash a SU zip that has the binaries and or some other goodies for root. However, this does require you to read, a lot, since there are several different version and updates for this phone. The link that has been provided is a download for an app that you would install after you have root, but before you tried to do any of this you should have read and read some more until you understood what you were doing. From the post that you have been placing in this thread you have not read any of the links I have and others have provided and don't know what steps you were trying to do, so I not sure if I can help.
The best thing to do is to use odin and flash a stock tar, but you have to read, read, read. You need to know what firmware version you had before doing this, if not you can mess the phone up bad.
I use "WiFi Tether Router". It's in the app store and it works great for me.
So, I've been having one hard time figuring this out. It seems to be hard to find, or I'm not looking for the right things, so I come seeking your help.
I have a Galaxy S4 (obviously, lol), here's all about it:
Model Number: SCH-I545
Android Version: 5.0.1
Baseband Version: i545VRUGOF1
Build Number: LRX22C.I545VRUGOF1
Can someone tell me if I can root it or not? Towelroot and Kingroot do not work for it. I'm guessing that's because the software is still too new. So, might it just be that there is no root for it yet?
If so, is there anyway I can get rid of the bloatware (it's so frustrating!)?
Thank you in advance!
If on stock OF1, no there is no root for it, and no downgrade options either, as bootloader was updated and locked anything below OF1

There is no root for OF1 so the bootloader is locked on OF1, if that's what you're asking.
supposedly this thing SRS ROOT can do it but it can't root mines. Though, the computer reads out that it does.
I used the kingroot no pc apk download. [
It worked fine for me
Yep, use kingroot.
I found that last night that KINGO ROOT is working on sch-i545 build VRUGOF1.
Link for future reference. The old method is better imo. Root is possible with kingroot but didn't work when i swithed to supersu
You have to use kingroot to grant a terminal su permission, then uninstall kingroot, and lastly install SuperSU via the terminal. Google it for a more in-depth walkthrough. I did it in 5 minutes sitting in my car. SuperSU is better, and it plays nice with more apps. Good luck! Message me if you need a link.

My sister in law just jumped from an iPhone to a Verizon Galaxy S4 (i545VRUGOF1) on Android 5.0.1
I'm currently with Tmobile on an S6 (rooted etc.) and have been since the S3 so I am accustomed to rooting etc. However, the root procedure for the Tmobile variant is obviously different.
Anyways, she wants me to root hers and so far as I can tell Kingroot is said to work and I can then remove it and replace with SuperSU.
My question though is what recovery works with this variant? I'm a TWRP guy myself but it doesn't sound like flashing TWRP via Odin will work with this Verizon S4.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks and rock on...
Ahhh, the lollipop update irreparably locks the bootloader so you can't even sideload twrp. Sorry man, but you're stuck. You can still root it tho...piece of cake. Use kingroot, then replace it with SuperSU. Instructions are in the link: http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html?m=1

Hmm. No recovery at all then. Ah well...those are the breaks I guess. Thanks for confirming root.

I read a few posts that alluded to it being possible to flash the Kitkat firmware via Odin. Yay or nay?

Oh dear. I recall being able to reflash the bootloader etc on a g3 using Odin...to roll it back...but that was over a year ago. About the s4...probably not. Worst case, you brick it. Otherwise it just won't boot. In other words, I would be really surprised. I'll think about it and let you know if I remember anything. The best way to confirm or negate would be to Google it.
The only reason they were rolling back to KitKat was to root it early in the lollipop stages, I think. The bootloader was already and permanently upgraded. -I think. I'm tied and groggy right now...

Yeah I was Google it but couldn't find anything concrete. It would seem to work and I doubt a hard brick would ensue. A soft brick could be recovered using Kies or smartswitch though in most cases. Thanks
