[Q] Unpacking AMlogic img firmware? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have some firmware for a AMlogic S805 based box. I'd like to unpack it so I can add and remove some apps etc. The firmware is in img format and I'm unsure how to unpack it.
Are there any windows based programs out there to unpack this file or can anyone point me in the right direction?

Any success? I am looking for the samething. Let me know what you come across. I did find 2 applications that can unpack an img file.

Yes, I did manage to find an AMlogic img file unpacker. Took a while but it's out there

What were you actually able to change? Can you do a step by step? We're you able to repack and flash the img file?
Sent from my iPad with XBMC

With the AMlogic tool you can change almost everything in a .img firmware file.
You can download the tool here
I'm currently having issues changing the launcher though. I've removed the default ones and I'm trying to add my own XBMC modded launcher. I get the first XBMC loading screen but then it's just blank. Working on it though

I think the link is that there's no while at the drop box location. Would you please post another link or send me the file thank you.

Hi all,
i know this is a pretty old thread.
I tryed Amlogic Cusomization Tool, but it works (for me) only for KK img. When i try to unpack Lollipop img it fails opening image.
Is it my fault or the tool is not compatible with L images?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

Hi,
may it's a bit late but look at this tools.... AMLogic works pretty well with them.
Rgds

I hate to bug users on XDA but I am new to the AMLogic Customization Tool. Are there any tutorials for using it? I am trying to edit the firmware files in an .img file to get the remote and ethernet to work on a 5.1 ROM. Also to figure out how to stop it from going into deep sleep and never turning back on without being unplugged.

Anyone else notice that CustomizationTool v2.0.8 has problems unpacking the bootup image from the logo partition in Marshmallow images? I consistently get an error saying "The Startup logo is invalid!" Lollipop images seem to be fine, though.

As the creator of Rickys Rom Kitchen, im here to let you know i will be making the new and improved Amlogic ROM Tool!
Most features from the original aswell as the option to rip the rom straight off your device, view the bootanimation, unpack and repack the kernel and a crapload of other options.
Edit: Also the possibillity to customize the launcher.

[BOOTANIMATION] Z3C BIOS boot animation v3.1 [MM]

So, I created a nice boot animation in Windows BIOS style, using LorDestinY's tutorial.
The FPS equals the boot up time of the device, so no big delay.
Images are contained in multiple folders, so no black screen, and have the size of 720x1080 for the Z3C model.
The information used for the lines are as real as it goes, and is based on the D5803 model.
Have fun!

Sorry for late response. No, you can't use this without a rooted device, unfortunately. In order to backup your old bootanimation, using any file manager supporting root (Root Explrer, X-plore e.t.c.), navigate to /root/system/media folder. You will see a file called 'bootanimation.zip'. That's your stock boot animation. You can just rename it to anything (bootanimation.zip.bak for expample), or copy it to your PC. Then you can flash my zip. You can use any Recovery, like CWM, PhilZ or TWRP. If you have root, but no recovery, using your PC, extract the zip file you have downloaded, navigate through /system/media, and copy bootanimation.zip file to your device. Then replace your old bootanimation with the new one. If you would like to revert to stock after flashing this mod, delete the new 'bootanimation.zip' from the same location, and copy/rename the stock back. Reboot, and see if it worked (there's no chance for brick, don't worry). If you get just black screen, you should change the .zip's permissions to 644/rw--r--r-- (whatever the file manager shows), but there's shouldn't be any problem.
Beautiful!

OK, I'd like to try Xposed and a few other mods but I'd hate to not be able to restore to stock ROM if backup and restore doesn't work properly (which I've seen a couple of times on MTK devices)
Update! TWRP works well, even backup and restore seems OK. Now to make a debloated ROM :good:
PS: Can someone explain the Overlay fix? I'm not sure exactly what this is supposed to resolve. I am using the 20161213 ROM.
After flashing the TWRP, tried to reboot to recovery but not working. How do I boot into recovery.????
I tried it in 20161213rom and 20170116 ROM!

What do you get when you turn your phone off and hold VOL UP + Power? Once I select "recovery" then it shows the Leagoo logo for a moment then boots right in.
When I turn the phone off, I hold the vol + and power and I get recovery, fastboot and reboot. I select the recovery using the vol down. But its keeps showing Leagoo logo
Okay. For whatever reason, it hasn't flashed the recovery properly - it sounds like it's missing. If you have the stock recovery, it shows the Leagoo logo for a moment, then shows the Freeme logo only (no text, just a logo). With TWRP it takes around 2-3 seconds for it to come up. It sounds to me that something went wrong when you tried to flash TWRP. What version of SPFlashTools are you using? Are you sure the right drivers are installed? Perhaps try another computer and USB cable and try with SPFlashTool again.

Good news! I uploaded a debloated ROM. Link here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/6-0-lazy-s-debloated-rom-leagoo-m8-t3574816
It worked for my Leagoo M8 on second reflash with Pack-Flashtool-v5.1640.00.000.
After first attempt with original flashtool I had Freeme's hieroglyph and "no command" text.
Thank you!
Anyone knows if this can work for "Pro" version?

After a big search I found a website that had a overview of all manufactures that makes a TV Box.
URL site: https://androidtvnews.com/android-tv-box-firmware/
I found that my device (TH95H) was manufactured by WE-CHIP.
I downloaded this image (firmware). "T95 DUAL WIFI"
T95-H616-AW859A-10.1.A19.img
I looked at the description of the file. This was the best match with my device.
Flashed the firmware and beside the different UI everything works fine. For a different launcher, I forced stopped the default launcher. When I used the return button on my remote it asked what to use as a default launcher. That seems to do the trick.
Friend, can you help me with the link, I can't find it and I have the same problem, thanks

Thanks, I will try to reverse engineer the firmware and see how it works
I'm on a school laptop right now, can't wait to get home to mess with it (extract the rootfs and try to make firmware mods)
On my chromebook I can use gitpod to get a linux terminal in the cloud
But i need to use the research download tool which is a gui app, not terminal and does not support linux
I will let you know what I find in the firmware
Thanks for your work
I forgot to tell that the device is Itel It9210 with Unisoc T117 and Mocor V OS

bro...my device is running but i got no internet wifi, sim data isnot working.....how to flash this if u send me this....
can u give the boot.img file or full rom ?
I'm having the very same problem right now. I tried to root the device and everything worked well so far, but neither Wifi nor Bluetooth is getting activated. Changing to the other boot slot ended up in a boot loop back to fastboot.
@sadatkabir50 Where did you get the stock rom from or what was your approach to root the device?

Same problem. Everything working fine just Wi-Fi,camera,Bluetooth not working.
Which method did you use to root your device?
I'm following @halloweenm925's advice and downloaded the firmware for the EU version of the CPH2465 with a second device. How would you move forward if you had this file?
this boot img can boot ur phone but wifi and everything not working..
So I got the stock rom but neither the Wifi nor the Bluetooth is coming up. I'm kind of desperate right now. Can anybody support?

inbox me bro.. just now i fixed the problem
Solved the problem. Here is how I did it.
1) On a second Android phone, download the Oxygen Updater App
2) Open the app, set it to advanced settings, chose the device with the semi-bricked status, download the full zip
3) the zip file will be downloaded to sdcard's user root => transfer the zip file to your semi-bricked device
4) on your semi-bricked device, go to settings>updates, click on the top right three-point-menue and chose "local installation"
5) select the zip file and do the update
After the unpacking and verification is finished, reboot the phone and things should be back to normal.
If you want, you can now give the rooting a second try. There are a lot of tutorials, I used this one since I had the stock full rom:
Root OnePlus Nord CE 5G using Magisk [No TWRP Required]
Do you own a OnePlus Nord CE 5G android smartphone? If yes, today, we will share with you how you can Root OnePlus Nord CE 5G with the help of the Magisk
magiskapp.com
The full stock rom which is downloaded as described above needs to be extracted with the help of a script: as described here:
[LINUX][GUIDE] ROM Payload Image Dump
Now we have dumpers for Win/Mac/Linux! Great!
forum.xda-developers.com
So the steps to root the device would be
1) download the full rom as described above
2) extract the boot.img with the help of aforementioned python script
3) follow the steps as described in the tutorial linked above
I think what caused the initial issue on my side was that I simply was not on the same OS version on the device as the boot.img which I extracted from the full zip which is totally my own fault because almost every tutorial mentions it explicitly that you have to have the latest update on your to-be-rooted device AND make sure that you have the same ROM available to root your device.
Questions welcome!
