[Q] [S Pen] Best, simple note reminder app? - Galaxy Note II Themes and Apps

My GN2 is using Ditto Note 3 and Kitkat 4.4.2.
I want to be able to pull out the S Pen, scribble a note and set a date reminder for when that note should pop up. This used to work fantastically well with my Palm Tungsten T back in the day.
That also describes Oi!, which is what I currently use, except that it hasn't been updated in almost a year and has some critical flaws - like the fact that once a note's alarm goes off, you can only snooze/dismiss and not reschedule it or edit it in any other way - and some bugs, like the fact that a new blank Oi! reminder will pop up on screen every few minutes if I'm actively working with the S Pen.
Action Memos are great but I don't need all the features and linking to S Planner just to set a reminder is convoluted at best.
Google Keep is simple enough but doesn't support the S Pen.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jacob

Answering my own question, Juswrite gives me the closest functionality to what I need. Although nice-looking, the UI could be improved to reduce 1-2 clicks in note creation & setting reminders, but it's worth it for the extra functionality in comparison to Oi!.

Google Keep + MyScript Stylus Beta

Or GNote. Keep a widget to open automatically in a new note with handwriting.

I'm already a regular Keep user, so this might be great.

Thanks, I'll check it out too.

jshare, what did you go with in the end?
I have a Galaxy Note 8 and also use OI!
One annoyance is that the Note 8 will not repeat notification sounds and I am using Light Flow to get around that.
I asked the developer of Light Flow if he will include support for OI! and he said he will soon.
Also use the Palm T5. Still goes but the battery is slowly packing up.

List of useful apps - verified to work on the Note

I thought we could list useful apps we've installed, and a quick summary of why. While browsing the Market I see a lot of comments "doesn't work with X", so I figured since we are blazing a new trail with our Notes we can save each other some aggravation and list ones we've found that definitely work.
Missed Message Flasher by TomatoX. Calendar only gives you one notification of an upcoming appointment, this lets you get multiple notifications until you stop it. Works for missed calls, texts, calendar and many others. I found the test notification in the setup does NOT work, but it does work for a real appointment. Haven't tried it with texts, calls yet. Edit 2/21, so far it doesn't appear to work with texts, let me know if you find otherwise. May try other options tonight. Edit 3/5, I'm still not sure I'm getting repeated notifications for anything other than calendar items, still testing.
Opera Mobile by Opera. Can't stand that the built-in browser can't identify as a desktop browser, but Opera Mobile can.
GPS Status & Toolbox by EclipSim. Nice real-time verification of all of your GPS stats, accelerometer, level, compass. Nice bonus, shows battery stats too (temp, %).
HotSpot Toggle by Mehdy Bohlool. One-click activation of the wifi hotspot. A little annoying that it doesn't line up with the other icons on the home screens, but it works.
XiiaLive Lite by Visual Blasters. For streaming ASX/WMA. I have a lifetime Internet account with SiriusXM. The sound quality from XiiaLive is much better than the SiriusXM app - the bit rate from the Sirius app is awful. I'm using this with a free online service called MusicDock. Use their "Windows Mobile" site (mentioned at the bottom of their home page) along with this app and you are golden.
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Simple, but works to modify the audio output, including on Blutooth.
Added 2/22
Battery Indicator by Darshan Computing. Same as Battery Percentage but is half the size (1/2 MB vs. 1 MB) and is easier to read IMO. No way to modify the stock indicator w/o rooting, so for now I'm using this instead.
CPU Spy by storm717. Very small. Lets you see how much time your CPU spends in each speed, including how much time it sleeps. If your battery is draining quickly this will let you see if it is ever sleeping.
Added 2/29
Word Feud by Berthussen IT. Scrabble-like game.
Added 3/05
AirDroid by SAND Studio. Way better than Keis Air - ability to transfer files, txt messaging, etc via wifi.
Music Volume EQ by K & K Design. Works well, autostarts, includes features other than just a basic EQ.
AndroSensor by Fiv Asim. Displays outputs and current draw from all of the sensors in the Note, including barometer.
Added 3/13
Screen Filter by haxor industry. Much more effective than using Dimmer (listed below). Allows you to dim just as much as you want, or as little as you want. So you can go really dark at let's say 20%, or if you just think the stock auto-brightness is a little too bright, you can permanently apply a 75% filter to dim it down just a little and still let the auto feature do its job. I'm currently trying that. Only problem is as you get to the really dark settings you get a noticable gray coloration to the whole screen - minor and an acceptable trade-off. You can set up multiple home screen shortcuts for multiple settings. Can work along with Dimmer but it is pointless, I just uninstalled Dimmer.
Added 3/23
Screen On by Konstantinos Polychronis. Keeps the screen on for selected apps, or when charging. For instance, Google Maps where you don't want the screen to turn off (and loose your position). This is a tentative recommendation - at first it was flaky (didn't keep the screen on) for some apps but seems to be better after rebooting. I'll report back after a while. After selecting your applications from the list don't forget to enable the application with the checkbox in the upper left corner.
Calendar Snooze by Bitfire-development. Adds lots of snooze options to calendar notifications, more initial notification options and more reminder notification options. I still use Missed Message Flasher for text and Google Talk, but I turned off reminders for calendar in MMF and use Calendar Snooze instead. Mostly because it allows you to set a pattern for vibrate instead of having just one long vibration. I notice it better when it pulses several times.
Added 4/9
Increasing Ring by sashomasho. Increases the volume of your ringer and/or clock alarm, so you can start off completely silent or nearly silent and increase the volume over time. Gives you a chance to grab your phone and answer or reject a call without it blaring at top volume on the first ring. Note that it increases the volume based on your current ring setting so make sure you turn your ring volume below full volume or it will appear that the app isn't working.
Can recommend but don't use anymore
Dimmer (Night Mode) by geekyouup. One-click ability to dim your display as far as it will go. The stock brightness slider will only take you to "30", this takes you to "10". A noticeable difference especially in a dark room. Screen Filter (listed above) works much better and is more versatile so I removed this app.
Can no longer recommend
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Would randomly stop modifying the audio stream even though the app was still listed in the task manager. Also had to re-start after every reboot. Found another equalizer (listed above) which doesn't have either problem. Also I think it sounds better.
SiriusXM Internet Radio by SiriusXM Radio Inc. Doesn't let you force a specific quality, and found an aftermarket solution (listed above) which sounds much better.
Battery Percentage & Temp by Global Developers Adds a battery percentage display as a permanent notification. Battery Indicator (above) is easier to read and the app is half the size of this one.
Please list your own useful apps...
Good list, although this probably belongs in the Galaxy Note Themes and Apps forums.
Some other adds:
Skitch - Evernote add-on that supports sketching. A lot like S Memo, but it has a bit deeper integration with Evernote if you're using that.
iAnnotate Lite - Download from the Samsung App Store to ensure Galaxy Note compatibility. Great tool for marking up PDFs.
Currents - Works great on the Note. The bigger screen really lets you take advantage of the magazine-like layout similar to what you see on a tablet.
I'll add Sketchbook (Mobile) to the list. Pro is still tablet only.
Also, Fruit Ninja and Spirit HD, both of which I've found are great with the S-Pen. The latter locked up and crashed last I played, though; not sure if this will be a recurring issue. EDIT 2/22 - Skip Spirit HD for now. The crashing is consistent, closing the app after two or three levels every time.

Likewise. I use Tweetcaster Pro, a lot better than all of the twitter app out there.
I use Mr. Number for blocking spam / private / blocked numbers. But for some reason the app thinks I'm not in the US, hence why I'm having issues with it at the moment but it's still working regardless.
Streamzoo / MyTubo - for picture editing. Not close to instagram but it does the trick.

Lol.....indeed.
Made a few updates to my list.
For anyone that uses a bluetooth headset and is tired of pocket dials, Proximity Service works well to keep the screen off while in the pocket. It takes a bit to get used to it with regard to how you work with the device, but it is less of of an issue with the Note than it was with my LG Optimus.

I use Awesome Note from the Galaxy note 8.0. I would definitely check that out. Google "Awesome note galaxy 8" and click the first link to read about it and also download it.
You can also get the g note apk through google as well. Google "g note apk" and click the first xda link. Always always always try google first man, it will help a lot:good:
Also Handy note pro is a great note taking app I use as a backup when I write lengthy notes in class. It has a magic pen feature that keeps your handwriting in straight lines kinda as if you were writing on lined paper. It's weird at first but a great feature once used to it. It has a free version to try out I believe, otherwise handy note pro you have to pay for. (you can get it free by many means but I don't think I'm allowed to disclose that unless you pm me) check any of these apps out and see how they work for you.
Quill
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.
I use GMD S-Pen control from the play store. It has many built-in gestures and you are able to create your own gestures as well. I think it works really well with all the jellyBean roms...
I've tried all of these options here except for GMD S-Pen and here's what I found:
Awesome note galaxy 8 - Does not work well with AOSP ROM's like CyanogenMod. I installed it and could not make it work. My device kept FCing; not only that the whole phone was never stable after that. I had CM 10 at the time.
Handy note pro - Is fine and has a lot of features but does not take advantage of the side button of the stylus.
Quill - Was ok. Didn't have good export features.
The ones I have found to be the best at least for me are:
Papyrus - Papyrus takes advantage both the stylus button and single finger touch. You have the option to buy additional feutures, like true erase etc or export to Dropbox.
Memo - Also takes advantage of stylus button and finger touch but does not allow for many options as Papyrus
Write - Also takes advantage of stylus button and finger touch but does not have option to import image. It has real good edit controls and you can set up bookmarks within your notes.
Notable mentions:
Jotter - Is a nice note taker but does not take advantage of stylus button nor single-finger.
S-Pen Voice - This app allows you to record voices while you write; it's the recommended way of taking notes in school The free version is limited. Not sure if you would want to record voice everytime you take a note.
Bamboo - This app is from Wacom, the makers of the Note screen. It has the feeling of a real note-pad but has limited functionality.
I think I've just about listed all the remaining S-Pen apps. Please suggest any other ones not listed here.

[MOD][XPOSED] Suggestions Toggle

I'm using Swiftkey pretty much since my first Android smartphone and it always bugged me when I wanted to type email addresses or other stuff the dictionary didn't contain. So when I type something and hit the spacebar the word would be autocorrected to something completely different. I always wished there would be a simple toggle to enable/disable autocompletion/suggestions. Well, now there is!
This module allows you to double tap any text box to enable/disable suggestions. It's tested on Swiftkey and Google keyboard both on Android KitKat.

See this baby being quite useful. Should have been part of the system from the start!
Will give it a try once that "issue" is resolved.
It's not really an issue. I only noticed it when being in Google Mail, double tapping in the subject, then going to the message body, double tapping and then going back to the subject field. So this use case is rather rare. Usually you are in Whatsapp or any other messaging service and operate only in a single field. Not multiple.
Is it possible that the app will remember my settings for certain fields? For example disable the auto correction when it meets again the input field of a mail address in kmail?
@theknut
Great mod idea. :good.
With June 30 update, works great on Stock 4.0.4 . What at treat. Thanks.
(why Swiftkey devs don't add a toggle for this is beyond me!!!)
I have been wanting something like this for a LONG time!
Suggestion
- It would be great if this toggle could be triggered by a SHORTCUT. Then, we could use a mod like "Gesture Navigation" to toggle the feature on/off.
Not working on my galaxy s4 running kit kat either, hope this is fixed soon as it's a great idea.
Not working on Moto G with Google Keyboard
Not working on Samsung s2 with swift key.
Edit....

Works fine on my LG P500 over multiling-o kb.
Suggestion: Choice of gestures. Why? Because that double-click is functional in various text-programs including messaging (seems to insert/remove new-line). Kind of limited because directional gestures will also be functional. Ideas?
This seems to just disable suggestions entirely when I'm using Swiftkey (beta if that matters). Double tapping does nothing, and swipe input (flow) is disabled.
Google Keyboard works as expected and I can toggle suggestions, but only if the input field originally allows for this. I was hoping that this would allow me to turn on suggestions for input fields that some idiot developer forced to have suggestions off, and it doesn't do that. Would be a great feature to see in the future!
Excellent module :highfive:
Works fine on the play store "L" keyboard FYI and TY!
N900T rooted stock.
This is great!
Thank you very much. I love autocorrect but it drives me crazy sometimes. Now the solution is "a double tap away", again, thank you
(I'm on CM11 maguro)
I don't get the point of this, at least with SwiftKey. Since you still type out the word instead of swiping it, you can always have SwiftKey accept what you wrote out - the word would appear in the leftmost suggestion.
This is totally awesome! :good:
HTC One (m7) here and it works like a charme!
Seriously...this solves a problem that has always annoyed me big time and I already made a note to see if it's "programmable" with Tasker and place a shortcut in the quicksettings menu. But it still felt to complicated...this is super intuitive and works flawless!
Thank you!

@Archon810
Do you use the setting... auto space after a period? Sometimes, in some scenarios, in trying to spell out a long word that has periods or punctuation in it, SwiftKey keeps auto correcting and the usual method of using the top left suggestion box is virtually useless. Hard to explain. But, being able to temporarily disable suggestions/typos really comes in handy in this situation. I actually feel less stressed at times. Such a handy feature. Many have wrote to the SwiftKey devs over the years, asking for a similar Toggle. Instead, it manually takes 4-5 clicks to disable prediction. This module is the apitome of the usefulness of Xmodules such as this one. Thanks again to our dev @theknut.

Chrome browser with dark background?

Are there any themes or other way to make Chrome browser background a dark color? Even just a little bit. I've perused this, and other, forums looking for a way to make the main "results" page of Chrome toned down. I use dark themes because they are easy on the eyes, and would like the same thing in Chrome.*
I have a rooted device with a custom ROM and would even be willing to change ROMs to make this happen.*
Thanks much in advance

Well, I have no experience with chrome but in case addons are workin with the mobile version, I would search for night mode. A quick google search brought me to night mode pro. Maybe thats something you are looking for. Otherwise there are other browsers which support night mode like RBrowser. I use this one and it's pretty great. The only downside is that it does not support multiwindow mode.

I know this is kind of a necro post, but here is my suggestion. Use color changer pro with the reversed BW setting. It will make the white background of most webpages black. The app is developed by the same person that made Galactic Night, an old color changing app that I used in the Note 2 days, but it only worked with certain older Samsung devices. This app works with everything (that I've tested.) You can create widgets on your home screen to change to certain colors, and you can have a notification that allows you to change between up to 6 predefined color setups. Also good if you need an all red screen to preserve your night fishing. I use that when night fishing. The pro version is a paid app, however you can get a free one with a 5 day pro feature trial. It also requires root. Second link is a photo of the app in action. Can't SS because it is a filter.

Samsung Notes app for Note 4 MM 6.0.1 ?...

Hello friends.
I want Samsung notes app (not S-Note app) on Note 4 MM. It includes reverse and forward function at popup notes and many pencil selections.

So, how could I get the double tap s pen to open note, and screen off memo? When I launch the activity from Activity Launcher it seems to run just fine, although the screen off memo seems to be broken..
