DarkHorse Themed Maps on VS985 - Verizon LG G3

Well I just flashed the DarkHorse Maps 7.7.0..zip and seems to work pretty good as far as I can tell.
> If anyone intends to flash this be careful, you MUST make sure you get the right one, there are a few.
If you don't get the right one, it will say the app is not installed.
I have learned from past experience.
Here is a link to the post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41634338
Before flashing I recommend uninstalling Maps updates first.
I just flashed it via Flashify.
Wiped the cache and dalvik flash the zip and profit!!!

Only works on roms tho right? Figured I better just stay rooted and that way if I sell it I can unroot and remove device modified message.

I would imagine it'll work on stock or a ROM. If you have TWRP installed then just nandroid your stock (which you should already do) then flash zip. Then if you want to sell you can just restore your stock.

For people that need help (NEW TO ANDROID)

I want to post this thread to help those of you
who are new to android and to the Galaxy S4.
There are many videos on how to do kool things
to your S4, but most of them don't include the
Verizon version of those kool new things. If you
need help and you are relatively new, I ca listen
to your questions and help you out. Most of the
developers are too busy doing other things so we
can have kooler things for our devices, they don't
need another task to take upon their shoulders.
Thank you all developers for Giving us the great
power that comes with Android.
Don't take this the wrong way, but something about this post makes me hope that you'll only be pointing people in the direction of the proper guide, not trying to explain it.

Thanks for the thread, i am new to android, just switched over from iphone (but i am actually very tech savvy). any idea how/if i can update to android 4.3 on touchwiz while while maintaining my root on the mdk version? i read an article saying you can force the 4.3 update to any s4
edit:
just realized the article was for google play edition, but seeing that i am rooted, does it make a difference?

No. That's not how android works. It's not like an iPhone where all of the updates come from apple. Android updates don't come from Google unless you own a Nexus device or a GE device. They usually come from the OEM and carrier. And it's not universal. You can't apply an update from another carrier on your device. The only thing you could do at this point is to install a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM. I think there are a few ROMs in development that have a 4.3 base, but that's it. Also, you can't maintain the MDK version and also update to 4.3. They're two completely different versions with many of the components being different, including the bootloader and recovery.

There are no touch wiz android 4.3 yet.... your best bet is staying on mdk.... because any update that verizon pushes out will lock the loki hack and brake root.... check out the post on the list of ROMs the GS4 has. If you don't like any of the ROMs you'll have to wait for a prerooted Android 4.3for Galaxy S4 to come out.

Thanks for your willingness to help out folks newer to Android.
thanks for the info. my gs4 is rooted on mdk with goomanager's recovery. i have been happy with touchwiz so far, so i haven't flashed any other roms yet. i disabled the OTA update with titanium backup but i am a little curious about the VRUAME7 update. what exactly is the deal with that, you can root but not use a custom recovery (so your stuck on touchwiz) or can i get a rooted version of it and have recovery too while enjoying whatever the new updates are.
I have one question for everyone. Depending on the answers I get, the if it aint broke dont fix it rule will apply. So here it goes. (fingers crossed)
I was on Beans MDK Rom with stock kernel and decided to try Darkslide Rom. My phone didnt like the that rom so I flashed back to Beans using my nandroid backup using TWRP. Everything is working fine with no issues at all. Here is where my question comes. I looked at my baseband and it show ME7. Why? My backup should have put me on MDK...right? How I get baseband back to MDK? Anyone have suggestions?

If you have a device that wasn't officially updated to ME7 then you can flash any of the ME7 roms in the dev section. You'll enjoy the new features such as apps2sd and you can flash the ME7 modem separately (Darkslide flashes it for you).

The baseband refers to the modem which isn't changed by flashing most roms or restoring nandroids. However, since Darkslide flashes it alongside the rom (only rom that does this) that is why your baseband changed to ME7. You can get back the MDK modem in a few threads but there is an easy one to find in the second post of the BoneStock rom.

How do I tell which build the phone is at the store
Hi,
I'm new to android and all internet phones.
I'm using a relic right now Motorola e815 with just the phone (text blocked) and I need to get a GS4 for Verizon. I modified my e815 7 years ago, so I could put ringtones on it from the card, but the state of the art (SOTA) curve seems a bit steep with never having used an android phone.
I would like to get the GS4 root it and put custom ROMs on it. From what I read currently, I think this can be done only on the expensive developer phones, or pre ME7 builds.
My questions are:
How do I tell which build the phone has at the store so I can tell if they are selling ME7 or not? Another thread from today said the stock 16gb phones at the store a few days ago when he got his were all pre ME7. Another thread on another board said try asking for the least popular color. OK, but how do I quickly check what the build version is. Yes I've UTFSE, but I must not be calling something by the correct name in the search engine.
Also how do I make sure the CSA does not update the phone and that there is no automatic update before I get home and turn it off? I don't want to find a phone I can root and ROM, but have some idiot screw it up for me by doing the OTA or it happening on my way home from the store. Also if I go to get an app from ? (titanium backup) to turn off autoupdate, do I risk it automatically updating before I can get the chance to root it?
Thank you very much for any help your suggestion you have to offer me and anyone else reading this.

I can answer SOME of your question... I believe that there is really no way to know if the phone has the me7 update on it without turning it on to check... I'm sorry.... I got my phone around the same time the new update was coming out. You can always ask the store assistant to try to set up the phone while you're in the store, that way you can quickly set it up... then go to settings/more/about phone/build number to check if the last three characters are me7 or not...... Although it would be hard to find a way out of that if you find out it has the me7 update.......
If you know for sure that the phone does not have me7 on it for sure..... turn all data off ... wi-fi, moble network... etc.... and download Titanium Backup apk to your computer..... from there you can transfer it to an sd card or USB it to your phone and install it manually....... BUT... for the app to work you have to be already rooted.... so before you buy the phone you need to watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm3jw3hft1g and follow all instructions for the downloads... You dont nee a network connection to root.... DO NOT TURN YOUR DATA/WI-FI CONNECTION UNTIL YOU FOLLOW ALL I'M TELLING YOU..... once you are rooted SUCCESSFULLY..... run titanium backup find "SDM 1.0" click on it and freeze it!... this will make it so Titanium Backup will Deny the process that pushes the updates.... ater THE APP HAS BEEN FROZEN. You can turn the data back on.... Having done this... you are now able to install the Loki hack and flash ROMs... instructions for Loki hack= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc_Mh_nNPPw ...... if you have any more questions... PLEASE ASK.... Good Luck. so review...................... ALSO if you need very extremely thorough instructions on how to use Titanium backup see this video. "" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZEa10WtFng
1. Find GS4 without me7
2. Turn off all data
3. Root GS4
4. Download Titanium Backup.apk to PC
5.Transfer apk to phone storage
6. Install Titanium Backup manually on GS4
7. Find "SDM 1.0" and Freeze it
8. You are now safe from me7 update
9. Turn data back on if wished
10. Loki hack bootloader
11. GO CRAZY!!!

[Q] Requesting Help With Bootlooping E970

Hey guys. I am not from around here. You will normally find me hanging out in the Nexus forums. I need some help trying to correct an issue my noob buddy caused on his E970. He brought it to me today in a boot loop and apparently he rooted it an uninstalled some GAPPS and now he has this security error and BL. Now, so far I have managed to install the drivers..... that's it. I have worked on a variety of different devices but I am really having trouble with this. I think the issue is I can not find a thread that is comprehensive enough to explain what alot of the different tools are and what they do. I mean there is
1. LGNPST
2. Teenybin
3. Freegee or something like that
Then there about 14 different file types depending on the tool you are using. I have seen;
1. dll
2. bin
3. kdz
4. tot
I have to be honest with you guys this is confusing as hell. I keep coming across dead links and old downloads and stuff that may not work. I REALLY don't like using stuff not linked from XDA as that is all I've known for many years (not to say other sites aren't reputable but you never know) I can follow instructions and figure out most stuff on my own but due to the in completion of alot of this stuff and dead links I am kinda stuck I am gonna give it another go tomorrow but in the meantime if someone wants to drop me a link or word of advice as to where to at least start it would be awesome. I am pretty handy generally with this kind of thing but I guess that goes to show you sometimes you are only as good as the tools and directions you are working with. Thanks XDA Community! :good:
Okay the first three.
3.lgnpst is the program you will need to use to fix the security error which was caused by removing bloat without unlocking bootloader.
2.teenybin is used with lgnpst to unlock bootloader, update partitions to jb, and install recovery. It doesn't install firmware but could be used to restore if a rom was copied to sd to flash.
3.freegee is used to unlock bootloader and install recovery on a working phone.
Next four.
1.dll are files needed by windows.
2.bin is the extension the file needs to be for using lgnpst.
3.kdz is stock firmware for use with lgflashtool (used mainly for international phones)
4.tot is the extension the stock firmware is released with which will be renamed to bin before using lgnpst.
In the additional info section of teenbin thread there is a click to show content button that will have have links and guide for lgnpst. Use the tSilenzio version and it will register the DLL files on install.

Thank you. This is exactly what I needed. Someone just to say "these are what these things are and what they do". I do have to admit I don't fault my buddy too much for soft bricking this thing as of all the devices I've rooted or flashed to this seems the most confusing. And also it's very odd that if you remove BW without first unlocking the bootloader you get this error..... Why can't they all just be as easy as a Nexus? Lol.

Well its especially difficult when someone just brings you a phone and you've never even seen it booted up and you don't know all the weird quirky rules it has (like if you uninstall GAPPS without unlocking the bootloader then you get a bootloop.) lol Otherwise it seems like a solid phone. This link is for a flashable zip of rooted stock jb. If you used the teenybin files with lgnpst then flashed it with recovery the end result would be stock rom with unlocked bootloader, root, and custom recovery.

Yes, once you're unlocked & rooted you will be good to go. I would recommend flashing an established rom and installing the GApps that are recommended. It would be a lot more convenient and less of a hassle.
Make sure you are using TWRP, CWM was causing bugs with flashing of some roms. Hope this helps.

Awesome and once I've flashed a good rom. Would that then circumvent any future boatloads caused by modifications etc.? So in other words are those proprietary (catches) cooked out when the devs set up a rom? I would imagine so. I know most of us folks hate that kinda thing... Lol

4.4 KitKat TW International Rom Patch For Vzw S4 With MDK Bootloader Updated 12-2-14

Updated: 12-2-14 Fixed Patch To Work With NK2 Builds
Here is a patch that will get International TW 4.4 Kit Kat roms to work on Verizon with MDK bootloader. Every thing is working as far as data and wifi voice and mms go. There may be other bugs. If the rom has alot of theming try using the minimum option in aroma installer
1. Download my patch
PATCH_NK2_S5_MODS_TEST.zip Lates Version For NK2 Builds With S5 Modding Will only work with roms that have the S5 mods
AROMA_PATCHER_V25.zip Version For NG2 Builds
AROMA_PATCHER_V22.zip For Roms NE5 Through NF1
AROMA_PATCHER_V20.zip For all Versions Older than NE5 Build!
2. Full wipe required
3. Download and install International rom but do not reboot. International Roms Found Here
4. Install AROMA_PATCH.zip
FAQ (Read Here Before Asking A Question)
1. This patch should work on most international version of 4.42 TW roms.
2. You can use an aroma installer to install rom. Just flash my patch before reboot. There is no need to flash loki patch after my patch since my patch has loki patch built in it.
3. If you didnt flash patch before you reboot and get unauthorized software found on device warning simply reboot back to recovery and flash my zip or if you didnt flash my zip after you installed rom and rebooted you will be fine you will not brick your phone, just power down and flash or go through setup then reboot and apply patch.
4.MMS Now Works!
5. Yes you can go back to 4.3 roms
6. Roms dont flash bootloaders they have to be flashed with odin.
7. If rom fails to flash in recovery especially philz touch recovery, uncheck the box about allowing old updater script verification.
8. I am not the creator of these roms so I have no control over what features they have or have not. Remember these are International roms for gsm phones so somethings may not work right.
9. Apps are located in two places now the system/app folder and the system/priv-app folder.
10 there is some lag in the contacts apk for now you will have to live with it. I will see if I can do something about that as time permits.
I hope this answers some questions. I dont mind PM's but try to keep your questions in the forum so everyone can input and help find solutions. There are lots of smart people out there with different approaches to problems.

[Q&A] [ROM] Stock ZV6 Base - Odex & Deodex

Q&A for [ROM] Stock ZV6 Base - Odex & Deodex
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM] Stock ZV6 Base - Odex & Deodex. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Can this be flashed over my current setup?
Yup. And you can restore back if you want. The only thing that sticks is the modem
Again thanks for all the hard work. Really love the work you do.
OK so I made the leap and dirty flashed this over my current setup. Now I'm having issues with gmail fc'ing. So I uninstalled it thinking that may help. So I tried to install it from the play store and it says "incompatible update"??? Now I can't even sideload it as it tells me " application not installed". Any ideas as to why its doing this?

OK so something weird just happened... I went into recovery to fix permissions to see if that would help and gmail was somehow reinstalled... Its still not working but weird.

Disregard my previous posts. Its working now.
I'm really liking the ZV6 update! The ROM is smooth and no lag noticed. I was able to pick up cell signal quickly. Great Job!
I flashed this ROM, updated PRL/Profile and then flashed Sac 2. How can I verify that the modem stuck?

Go to Settings>About>Software. There will be 2 lines of numbers for the modem now.
It'll stick as Sacs doesn't include kernel or modem.

I have two lines for Baseband. Would that be the same thing as the modem? Thank you for your time!

You got it.
A couple of questions. I have bump and twrp installed and rooted on zv4, everything else is stock, except the kernel. I flashed the oversharpening fix kernel. Can I apply this zv6 update to my phone without wiping data and keeping the fixed kernel? Also, should I download the odex or deodexed?

You can probably dirty flash. But you will lose the kernel.
Obviously my recommendation is to start from scratch as there's enough changes/fixes in this update to give you issues.
On the odexed vs deodexed, you can Google it for a better explanation. But the simple answer is: Deodexed is way easier to Theme. But Odexed is said to run a bit faster/smoother because it caches the apps. If I remember that right.
Really the choice is up to you. If you want to Theme it, then you'll need deodexed.

I dirty flashed the deodexed version and when i booted the phone up, i keep getting com.android.systemui has stopped, and I can't do anything with the phone. Any fix in mind? For reference, my dpi was changed, so that may be the issue, i'm not sure

Clean install.
If you used an app to change DPI, then that's probably the issue. You need to wipe data also.
If through the build.prop, then it should've been OK.
You might be able to dirty flash the odexed as that's like factory.
Again, were taking about a factory update so it really should be a clean install.
Anyone having issues with Android Wear and ZV6? When connected to my Moto360 I get running sync loop. The only thing I haven't tried is resetting the phone and watch.
Since the update is already signed by LG, we should be able to use flashify if we have stock recovery and rooted. Is that correct? I know that I should bump TWRP, but I was holding off till lollipop. Just looking to do a dirty flash.

I know Flashify has had issues in the past with these Roms. That's why I recommend doing it in TWRP.
If you have TWRP already why Bump it again?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
Edit. I wouldn't think stock recovery would flash this. It's using bits and pieces of ZV6 but not all of it.
And I think the updater-scipt would make it fail. I may be wrong though.

I'm stock recovery and rooted. Since I haven't bumped TWRP, I thought I could flashify and avoid the 5 second TWRP delay issue by holding off on a custom recovery until we get the stock rooted version of lollipop. You and autoprime have always given solid advice and as such I will take your suggestion.

And again, I'm outta Thanks, so Thank you.
The 5 sec delay I talked about has disappeared for me now. But then I've flash about a million Roms in the last few days.
Others aren't getting the delay at all.
I guess what I'm saying is you don't need to reflash Bump TWRP. It works just fine. Even if you get that slight delay. Eventually it'll go away.
Edit. Get TWRP installed now. Have some fun with whatever Rom you want to try. Personally I'm not expecting Lollipop til next year. If it happens sooner great.

I will get TWRP and have some fun when I get back. I'm traveling right now, so I'd rather be at home if something goes awry.

[Q] How To Root VS985 on Lollipop 5.0.1

I know this has probably been asked a few times but I can't follow along for whatever reason.
I'm wanting to root my Verizon LG G3 on Lollipop 5.0.1 [Release VS98523C]
I have never rooted this phone before. It is entirely stock.
How can I do this or can it be done?

I'm pretty sure the one click root will work on LP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
You can also get vs985 autorec from the play store to quick flash twrp on there

Thank you, man.
I'm also concerned about unrooting as well, so if I rooted this way and then wanted to unroot in the future, I'm concerned about trying to figure out how to go about that as well.

Somehow I managed to overlook where it says you can just unroot in within SuperSU. Lol.
Thanks again, man.
Now if I can just manage to find an updated version of TWRP for this phone that I can flash via AutoRec.
Once you are rooted TWRP manager from the Play Store will do all that for you also.

The issue though with unrooting is it just removes root, but does not put the G3 back into stock condition. If you look under settings->About Phone->Software info, you'll see it shows it as "Modified" which means no OTAs will be accepted more than likely. The only way to go back to pure stock is to flash via KDZ or TOT images, which wipes your phone. That's the only way to get back to pure stock where it won't show modified as the status.
To learn more about the G3, I would suggest going to the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
From reading through that post, I learned everything I needed to about the LG G3 when I was considering switching to it and knew that I would be able to flash ROMs, root, etc. It is what sold me on getting the phone.
