MHL??? - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, anyone knows if it will have MHL or maybe a Slimport??
Thanks.

I've been trying to find this out too - no luck so far. Even Play store support couldn't help.

I would like to know too, if someone with a slimport / mhl could test this out.

It is a MHL cable and AFAIK, no one sells them yet..expect them to be out soon..other option is if you have a dlna compatible tv or box, u can use that wirelessly to stream videos/pictures but dlna AFAIK doesnt mirror the screen like mhl would.

No, its the MHL cable/adapter the earlier poster mentioned.
Both MHL and Micro-USB-to-HDMI will work but the MHL cable has the added benefit of it being able to charge the phone at the same time.
How will mini USB work when the SGSII has a micro USB port, and no mini USB port? The only possible port to connect HDMI to is the micro USB port, and the only possible technology to output HDMI from that port is MHL.
when should we see these cables?
Clove are saying in June, Expansys are saying end of May (but Expansys and release date reliability hardly go hand in hand). I'd go with the Clove date for now.
There is a chance they'll be available for purchase before then from the US, since the Infuse 4G comes with adapter in its retail box (Phonedog have an unboxing up one youTube).
Does this phone do HDMI mirroring like the Optimus G2X?
Nobody knows, since there are no MHL accessories available.

From the context of the earlier posts it seems like he really does mean mini USB. Uninformed people really shouldn't be answering questions in here.

[Q:] CM9 Nightlies no go w/ S3 (I9300) HDTV Adapter (EPL-3FHU...)?

Hi guys, could need some help, please:
I just can't get a picture from my S3 (neither YouTube, Homescreen, nor movie from SD Card) to show on my LG HDTV's screen... Any idea, why?
Just in case you're wondering...
-- I do have the latest/correct Adapter for the S3 (Model code: EPL-3FHUBEGSTD/Original Samsung bought on Amazon)
-- I have connected the S3 charger to the Adapter
-- One side plugged into HDTV, the other into the Adapter, and the latter plugged into S3.
I think that the CM9 Nightlies (RC2) just might not be up to par... (??)
Can anyone confirm it's actually working with your International S3 (I9300) and XpLoDWiLD's version of CM9 ??

I can confirm this on the Cm10 nightlies.
The mhl adapter works fine on Samsung-derived Roms, just not the CM ones.
I wonder if a different kernel would help? I plan to try a few later...

i have this exact same adapter and can confirm it working perfectly fine on samsung roms. I have posted a similar thread on getting it to work with USB OTG here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836822
I believe there must be something in the kernel to enable HDMI output (seeing as i get a "HDMI cable connected" notification) as well as switching into USB Host mode (and thus providing the adapter with power). It has been suggested that among the 11 Pins in the new Galaxy S3 port there should be 2 separate USB Ports, one to be used for charging, syncing, data cable, MHL, etc, and one to use for USB OTG while the other is in MHL mode.
I am hoping for new insight into this matter, since this would empower the device greatly. Together with the superior hardware, this would definitely be a killer feature.

I don't get why anyone would spend 20 bucks for an adapter you can get for 3 dollars on ebay, and very likely the EXACT same item..
I have maybe 12 lying around from previous devices and ALL of them work... All generic as well..
If your willing to wait the 3 weeks to a month... and are patient, you can get it MUCH cheaper and free shipping as well..
Also if there is a Microcenter in your area, they sell them for around 9 dollars..

Wireless Connection to projector

I want a wireless connection from my Nexus 9 to a projector.
I tried to attach a Chromecast to the HDMI port of the projector but Chromecast requires WiFi.
This solution works at home but not at place I have not access to a free WiFi connection.
The idea is to wirelessly present slides in meetings using my tablet.
Any wireless solution that you know would work??
Need my Nexus 9 and projector ..... (buy a receiver but what)
Will Miracast do the job?
1) Buy a dongle
2) Attach it to the HDMI port of the projector
3) Run and app
4) Present slides with no wires
miracast wont work.
you would need a hotspot maybe by using your phone..i forget if that can be done or not. you will need to use the tablet to set up the chromecast
Chromecast did not work using my phone as a hotspot..... dropped in 5 minutes.
Support forums say mobile hotspot is not supported.
May look into hard wiring the Nexus 6 to the projector..... not something I want to do, makes for ugly presentations.
Yeah if you could connect to it in a offline mode, a router would be your fix. Wish there was another way.
Have you looked into EZCast dongle? There are so many variants I can't decide which to try. Results are mediocre overall, but some are reporting success. I just want to cast videos from tab storage to TV without wifi. This device does that. It also does miracast. I've done the build.prop edit that may allow miracast. If I try one (or two), I'll let you know.

Yeah, I dont think that miracast would work for that .
When do you don't want failure, I would recommend trustworthy wires.

You can get a USB Dongle that accepts other usb cables, hdmi, etc etc. It's pretty easy.

You can do something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-HDMI-M...=1425920651&sr=8-2&keywords=micro+usb+to+hdmi
and just plug the hdmi end into your projector.

Well, I don't have this cable, but I used to use a similar cable on my old nexus 7 and it would mostly work on my tv. I just use Chromecast now (I don't need to present anything like you're talking about, though. Just to watch youtube etc.

Interesting as I don't think I was (nor were most others) ever able to mirror my Nexus 7 2012 to the TV via a cable. Micro usb to HDMI--I've never seen one, only dongles such as MHL and Slimport. MHL isn't supported as it is on my old Galaxy Nexus. Slimport isn't supported as it is on the N7 FHD and Nexus 5. A micro usb-to-hdmi would not work without some sort of hardware and software adjustments because of the limitations of the usb port on the Nexus 7.
As the thread is about a wireless connection to a projector when there is no accessible wifi, we came around to wired connections. So far, you're the only one to suggest a cable will work, but the cable you hyperlinked is a micro hdmi-to-hdmi which would not natively work on any Nexus tablet or phone (at least since Galaxy Nexus). I have that cable.
I have read that the EZCast dongle may work--if you actually get a good one and are close enough to the output device. I'm not ready to try it as I'm still debating keeping my N9.

HDMI cable

Folks
Can you recommend a cable that charges the phone and connects to HDMI at the same time. Sort of a two in one cable. My relative plays the phone video all day long connected to the TV
Thx
Anybody?

It's my understanding you can't get and HDMI cable to work on a Nexus 6.
That technology is called MHL and N6 does not support it.
Keep in mind too, if you have a tablet (like I have galaxy tab pro), it supports MHL. But if you use custom ROM, you will likely lose the MHL function.
Does it support SlimPorts?
Nope

It is incorrect. Google wanted people to buy the Chromecast, so they did not put in support for either MHL or SlimPort.

Correct. I own all types of mhl cable(powered/un-powered) and none work or not detected by TV when used with Nexus 6.

Neither actually function, and I've seen Motorola/Google Engineers respond to a question about this on the AOSP bug-tracker saying that they disabled it on the SoC of the Nexus 6.

Sorry, no, they disabled it on the SoC they shipped in the Nexus 6.
Per slimport employees at CES 2015, Google removed support at the last minute before release to manufacturing. They said it was a very big surprise because support had been included during development.
