could it be possible to use a usb infrared adapter, and a universal remote app of some description, to control your TV etc?

if the irda stick is working with lirc on linux it will work flawlessly. but someone has to write an app and compile the drivers and so on... still a lot of work (comparable to my dvb project)

mini usb to ir adapter
Hi, I have a samsung galaxy s3 and a Brother mw100 iR portable printer; i want to be able to use this printer with my phone. Is there such an adapter that will give me IR on my phone so i can use my printer?

Does the new I9100 Galaxy S2 have analogic TV-Out, via 3.5 jack ? Apart from MHL.
My I9000 Galaxy S has, and it works well with a Nokia CA-75U cable.
On gsmarena they only mention TV-out (via MHL A/V link) (and i'm not even sure what that means - a HDMI-out ?). Anyway, all i want is to connect the phone to a TV that only has RCA or SCART inputs.

I have report from an owner who is reliable that his Nokia 3.5mm TV Out cable is not working with the SGSII. I can confirm this tomorrow when I get my phone also.
If I'm not mistaken TV out is only supported via the miniUSB plug to a HDMI socket, with a 1080p maximum resolution. The cable doesn't come supplied with the phone though.
not working with the cable from my old n95. SGS1 did support this. Might be due to the cable being half broken, but I think it just doesn't support it.
I was hoping both methods were simultaneously available, like with Nokia N8.
Just to confirm does not work for me either (on the plus side my cheap Ebay USB OTG cable does work).

For full mirroring, yes. There is the option to share media via DLNA of course, but I suspect that like me you really need mirroring...

I have not seen a single video or post confirming this.

I think that it is also representative of the new technology. Honestly, I think RCA connectors are outdated and doesn't really make sense.
RCA uses analog, and most TVs now-a-days are digital. Almost no technology runs on analog anymore, so for phones like Nokia to output RCA, it has to have a chip inside to convert from Digital to an Analog output... Then when it reaches your TV, if it is a digital tv, then it has to convert the analog back to digital. At this point - not only is the resolution decreased, but the signal starts to artifact from converting from digital -> analog -> digital again.
I guess this means that people have to upgrade from their CRT/legacy LCD tvs that only accept RCA/AV inputs.
And for the even older CRT TVs, too bad for them because there's no support for coaxial out.
Now that would be cool -- a coaxial out cable for old TVs, in case we ever discover time travel, and want to show the future to people from the 80s on a nice big 19" color CRT TV.

Just some warning - I'm not sure if that will work since it's not an MHL USB-HDMI cable.
If it works at all, it won't be able to charge your phone and display HDMI at the same time because of the way it's designed.
If you don't want to buy the real cable, I saw a generic version here:

If you wait another month (I believe June is the month that the supply is supposedly being produced), I think China will have some copies made soon. For complete functionality and compatibility, make sure the cable meets and complies with MHL standards.

HML tv-out adapter for sgs2. $78 on ebay.
The official Samsung HDMI adapter doesn't look to be out for quite a while yet but there's one by BizLite over at Mobile Fun that should be in over the next fortnight (website says 9-14 days)
Cheaper than the official one too. Agreed that it's quite annoying having no TV-out on the 3.5mm jack!

Exynos 4210 supports composite output. If SGS2 has connected jack 3.5 to Exynos Composite Video Output soldered, there is a hope.
Hi all I need composite video out to connect phone to car video system - so it`s my only hope to get it from 3.5 jack somehow... or is it possible to convert hdmi to composite or component?

But I find out that my little USB remote control (picture attached) works with the Transformer. This USB remote has a infrared receiver which is plugged into a USB port.
The remote itself has various keys and a mouse.
In the transformer, the mouse works, the media player buttons (Play, Pause, Next, Prev) all work. So, it can be used to control the Transformer when you connect it to a TV.

Yes, I got mine from ebay, there are plenty of postings there.
The remote pretty much acts like a keyboard, sending a regular keystroke and well known commands (media play, pause, etc) to the computer.
I previously bought it for my PC, and found it works nicely with the Transformer.
Some specific windows function of course does not work, but media control, including Volume control works. And with the embedded mouse, you can pretty much do everything.
Do you guys think if I hook a microusb to hdmi adaptar it would connect to the tv. Think it would show a picture?also along those lines....whatabout a microusb to usb adapter for wireless 360 controller? think it would work?

I'm pretty certain that this is not possible. The HDMI-out used in microUSB adapters requires hardware in the device. As far as I am aware, the Sony doesn't include this capability. The USb port would need to be wired to the display output which the Sony doesn't have. Sony doesn't include a hardware display output since Sony's plan for their mobile devices (the same thing that lead to quite a few of the Sony's unique features) includes more support for future technologies like DLNA.
Have you seen the vscreens app? Am pretty sure that if you had an android powered tv device (a google tv box perhaps), you might be able to see the tablet on the tv by pairing the 2 screens. Though I dont have a google box, so cant test this theory!
For replacement of the HDMI port I am waiting for a stick called "Xbounds".

To have output video from the micro usb the port must be a MHL port, and the Tablet S port isn't. So I think it's impossible to have video out with this tablet.

I want to mirror my le max 2 screen to tv via hdmi. I tried using a USB-c to HDMI cable with built in charging but it did not work. USB-c connected to my phone , hdmi connected to TV and USB connected to normal charger. Now some questions as
Q1. Does le max 2 support MHL?
Q2. If i go for HDMi dongle will it work does it support miracast? What about chromecast will it work?

There is no MHL hardware on the phone and typically MHL support drivers aren't open source so they won't work with CM.
Miracast is supposed to be supported, I don't have a receiver so I can't tell.
Chromecast isn't exactly screen mirroring, but there is no reason why it shouldn't support the limited functionality it targets.
What might work (haven't tried it with this phone yet) is connecting a DisplayLink adapter via USB. You'd need to install and run their application on top and there is a good chance it won't support stuff like 3D games, because it basically needs to copy, encode, compress etc. frame buffer contents and ship them over the USB interface as data while they are being reconverted into video on the DL hardware.
I think it's a real shame straight-forward HDMI ports got dropped on phones years ago. I'm pretty sure it was because vendors wanted to sell distinct settop devices and Hollywood didn't want "phone" content on TV screens, not because users didn't want them.
