HELP - Battery drain when powered off - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Here is my problem hope some one can point me in the right direction.
Problem is that the phone is draining the battry when it's turned off (shut down) from 100% to 0% in less than two days and it's not even powered on!:crying:
I did try with two original batteries which works perfect on other S2, as I have another S2 wich I can do test with. So battery problem is discarded.
Then I flash back the phone to the last Samsung I9100XWLSD_I9100FOPLS4_I9100XXLS8_HOME.tar.md5 stock ROM to see if it solves the problem, maybe due to a bad ROM or kernel. But it doesn't solve the problem.
Phone charges fine, it reach 100%, never got wet, when it's powered off it doesn't get warm so no short circuit involved.
I'm running out of ideas, I did read all the posts I can find about this matter but can't find a solution.
Does any one have an idea on what can be this or how to solve it?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Battery Disconnected

Hi guys. Today when I was trying to charge my GS2, there was popup said 'battery disconnected'. I've tried to take out the battery for a few minutes, but the problem has not been solved. I am running checkromv4 and siyah kernel right now, just updated to siyah 2.6.12 last night. Can anyone help me? BTW, I am using the stock battery.
Are you able to charge it ? If you are (even tho this probably won't make a difference, but it might), charge it to 100% & delete battery stats in RedPill Recovery.
If this doesn't work (probable), try an earlier build of Siyah. If that doesn't help, go back to stock firmware & see if you can reproduce the problem. If you have no problems with stock, then it would obviously be a problem with that build of Siyah or your rom.
If you still have the problem running stock firmware, it would probably indicate a problem with the battery or something else hardware related. Perhaps try another battery. Failing that, back to Samsung/your telco for repair.
just take out the battery again this afternoon for ten minutes, and the problem seems like sloved so far. I can charge now, but have to take a try tonight. Thanks for your help.

This is an old thread, but I recently had this same problem with my Galaxy Note i717. After worrying about it for awhile and searching to find this thread, I took my battery out and examined it, and of the three terminals, the middle one had a piece of plastic broken off of the battery, covering the terminal. So the phone was getting power, but apparently couldn't communicate with the battery, and so for its own safety, wouldn't let me charge
Hopefully this helps someone else!
-Tom
EDIT: Also I tried charging to 100%, and clearing the stats etc, to no avail.
battery disconnected simple fix
pull out the battery take a 12v battery of your car or UPS touch the terminals -+ to your phone's -+ as - to - and +to+ remember just two or three times kisses only . now put battery back in phone Done....
First....why revive a thread that no one has visited in over 3 years.....
And second.......seriously? Connect a high capacity 12 volt source directly across the phones battery terminals?
To whoever reads this.....
DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO DO THIS.....
It is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and incredibly stupid to even *think* of doing it. It WILL destroy your device and it will likely cause you to suffer burns and possibly start a fire.....

[Q] Is my GS2 dead?

My GS2 was on charge and when I took it off charge the screen was apparently "frozen" and the phone was unresponsive to all inputs (touch screen, power button, recover mode, download mode), nothing work. So I took the battery out to restart the phone and now there is no response. The battery wont charge at all.
My phone is rooted and I had been running Resurrection Remix ics v1.0 for about 3 weeks so I know it was not a bad flash.
Since the battery would not charge, I ran some tests with a multimeter and though the battery is showing an output voltage of 3.7v, when I put the multimeter on the battery terminals in the phone whilst on charge, it was only giving 2.5v. (obviously not enough to charge the battery).
I did purchase another battery just to double check whether the battery might have been dead, but nothing.
Having had the phone for less than 12 months it is under warranty, but I don't want to return it until I have reflashed the stock ROM and unrooted, to avoid any issues. Obviously I can't reflash if I can't get it to power up.
Anyone have any ideas that might help?
Oh, and I do have a USB jig which I have tried to no avail.
Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forums, but I couldn't find any information to help.
can anyone help
anyone experience similar problem?

[Q] Battery stuck at 0%, need battery replacement?

Suddenly my phone won't charge. Do I need a new battery?
Here's the details ...
Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100)
CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly (10.1-20121229-NIGHTLY-i9100).
I've had it for almost 2 years.
If I leave it plugged in, everything works fine. I can boot it up and use it normally. The lockscreen display and status bar indicate that it's charging, but it stays at 0%. If I unplug the charger, it shuts down right away.
It also seems warmer than it should be while plugged in, but I'm not certain that's part of the problem.
The results are the same whether I use the charger or a USB cable connected to the computer.
There's an immediate reaction when I plug it in or unplug it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the charger or the port.
I've tried removing and re-inserting the battery with no change. I've also rebooted it several times... it shuts down when I unplug it anyway.
It just happened today, and I haven't installed or updated any software in the last several days. I have auto-updates in the Play store turned off. So it's not a software issue. The ROM was the last thing I updated and that was on the 30th.
I think the battery is really empty because I can't power it on at all if it's not plugged in. So, it's not just that the battery level indicator is wrong.
Hopefully, all I need is to replace the battery, but I was hoping someone here could confirm that or suggest what else might be wrong.
Thank you.
Check contact pins see if they are bent away or have crap on them. If not it sounds like the battery is dead, but I assume you already knew this.
I had already checked all connections and didn't find any damage or other problems. I bought a new battery today and that seems to have solved the problem.
Thank you.

I needed to write because this topic is on top on google results. I've lived the same today. A while ago i had a sudden battery decrease issue. There i was suggested to remove the battery and wait for a while. I tried this today. Removed the battery (simcard and memory card also... i just felt desperate). Waited for a while (i gues it was about half an hour). Plugged to charge. And my battery contiued charging from %61. I just showed wrong level.
This issue is happening to me too=/ but it happened to both my batteries in the space of two weeks
.
hi i have the same problem. i bought a new battery as mine was kaput. then a few days after that i needed a new charger port. now my phone wont turn on manually but when it is on charge it will randomly turn on for 10 seconds with 0% battery and then turn off. i tried doing the reboot with the power, home and vol up button but nothing happens. do i need another new battery?
I don't think it's the battery. I think it has something to do with these custom kernels and ROMs. I've been battling this problem for months with no results.
- I have a new battery, new cable, cleaned pins.
- Tried Lollipop, CM12 with kernel, one or two other kernels.
- Tried various KK ... CM11, Dominanx Kernel, some others too.
None work properly. I love all the updates but it's I just can't pin the problem down on my S2. I'd love to know what else I can do because I think I've exhausted all possibilities. Maybe JB is the only option? I dunno.
Help would be great on this.

Hi,
if you think the problem is custom ROMs then why don't you just go back to stock ROM and try?

I thought it might have been the pcb. I replaced that too but even that didn't completely revive the battery life. Went back and forth between JB and various customs mods to no avail. I ended up selling it for parts locally
Loved that S2 but it was time to walk away from it

I also had the same problem once. What I did was, went to recovery mode and charged for 1 hour and voila,it was charged till 21% only sadly. But by then,it has never rebooted like that!
hey ive also had a similar problem in which my j1 (Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016)) started to randomly shut down or restart around 2 months ago. Then, the battery would start jumping percentages like 100%, to 54%, then 33, back up to 84 in around 10 minutes. Then when I tried to charge it, it would stay at 0% and when Id unplug it, it would say 100% and shut down. Around late last month i ordered a replacement battery, it came in yesterday and worked fine up until a few hours ago. Now when i try to charge it it would stay at 0%.
Solution
1.Turn OFF Phone
2. Pull battery out
wait few sec
3. Connect charger
4. Put battery in
5. Turn Phone ON
Working for me. If not prob replace battery :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Phone dead, drains battery in < 1 hour

Hello,
I bought my Samsung gs2 just over a year ago. I had issues with the battary life all the time (It sometimes lost 20% in a few minutes without reason), but many other gs2 users have similar problems, so I just ignored it. 2 weeks ago, after I unplugged it, it suddenly lost 90% of the battery in an hour, and got extremly hot (the heat wasn't coming from the top of the phone where the cpu is, but from the middle of the it). I shut it down and removed the battery. When I switched it back on it had only 1% left. Now it is completely dead.
The Battery is working properly in my brothers phone, and I reproduced this with 2 other batteries. I suspect there is some kind of hardware damage. When I try to charge it, it displays an overheating alert (both switched on and off), and doesn't charge at all. Now the battery is so low, it doesn't display anything any more.
Unfortunately I installed a custum ROM (wanam lite), because I tried to solve the battery issues, so Samsung won't repair it.
Can anyone please help me keeping the phone alive long enough to flash the original firmware?
Thanks in advance!
do you have any symptoms for a faulty usb port? as for flashing a stock rom just fully charge it (turned off) boot in download mode and fire away... or is it draining your battery in download mode too?
I have the same problem with my white S2 i9100T, sent back twice to repair, just got it back one week ago, finally the battery problem is gone! Last changed is the mainboard, first repair they swaped the battery and updated software(already latest firmware, what the hell they tried to update?).
My phone is just over a year old as well, it has battery problem since first day and only fixed now. As I know only the one made in Vietnam has this problem so yours made in Vietnam probably you will need to replace the mainboard. I am using a 2 yrs old black S2 made in Korea, exactly same model, very stable and never fail, that Vietnam one keep having unexpected behaver, another friend's Vietnam one is the same, recently another friend got one made in China, so fast so good.
Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately My phone seems to drain the battery even when switched off, and it isn't possible to charge it, no matter whether it is on or off. So my only option is to ask somone else to charge the battery, and then try flashing the original software. How long do you think flashing will take? Even if the battery is fully charged, I don't have power for more than half an hour.
Another question: Does anyone know if it is possible to reset the flash counter without booting the phone? I doubt that I will have enough time to install triangle away...
do you have better battery stats? It'll tell you what the problem is more accurately.. I just check it when I have battery issues

I have the same problem recently. I am hoping it is the charging board... new one should be arriving this week. If that doesn't do it I am resigned to the fact that my phone's main board is faulty and it's time to upgrade.

[Q] Weird battery and screen issues

Hey guys and gals
this is my first post here. although a lot here is about rooted devices with custom ROMs, I hope you can help me out - you sure have a lot of expertise here compared to many other forums.
For the past two days I've been running into some of the weirdest problems with my Galaxy S2. Before i go into detail, here is the summary:
1. Screen time-out doesn't work while device is not plugged to a charger or computer
2. Notification shows 100% charge for a very long time (hours after heavy usage)
3. Not sure if charging actually works
4. Booting up seems to fail when not connected to a charger
it started yesterday when I noticed the phone light up and say it was charging. The problem is it wasn't - it was in my pocket.
Then I noticed that the screen didn't time out. I changed the setting, nothing - it remained on. I could push the power to make the screen turn off and on again but it wouldn't time out itself.
The charging info went away... at some point. I left it to charge over night and in the morning it indeed showed 100% in the notification bar. The problem is it remained 100% for A LONG time. In the settings menu under the battery it says it has been running on batter for 0 secs and showed 100% charge. For hours... There were no info about any apps or function using the battery. that part was clear.
Then i discovered that the screen time out problem goes away while connecting the charger or via USB to a PC. Then it times out. As soon as i unplug the charger it never times out....
I'm actually not sure if the charging works. Indeed it shows charging but sometimes it magically reaches 100% rather quickly.
Because I suspected a battery fault I used another battery. let it drain completely and then tried to recharge. Can't - when booting it shows a battery icon with question mark and then goes to show that the battery is 100% charged. Then the question mark and then 100% again. Seems to be in some sort of loop.
I've done the factory reset, I had a new firmware installed via Odin just in case. The problem still remains.
Booting the device seems to be an issue and only work with charger or USB cable attached. Ot it will be in that "what battery" and "100% charge" cycle...
I've searched high and low today but couldn't find anyone with the same problem.
Have any of you an idea? Really down't want to get a new phone! Seems to be a very bad month going on because a few weeks ago I had really serious issues with my brand new hybrid camera which i have to buy ... again! sold it for parts for pocket money....
Any help would be really appreciated! thanks!
That's really strange....try getting out the battery, charge it to max va an external charger,or borrow a friend's Galaxy S2.Leave the phone withou battery for an hour. Then when you put it in,go to recovery, and "wipe battery stats"(Root it if it's not).See if that works.

How long have you had the phone? The usb flex cable has issues over time. A symptom of this is the charging when not connected to the charger.
If it is this issue the part is cheap (around 5$ I believe).
