Helo. There was a thread with this question back from 2012, nobody really answered that either. I hope I can actually get some answers. Even some clues might be helpful, I don't want to be spoon fed, its just I never encountered this.
I have successfully ported a rom to my device, it has a Navigation bar, even though my rom has physical navigation keys, now the weird thing is, the the buttons do actually work, but the back-light isnt. I have even set the button light arrays in framework-res (though there were none even in my stock rom), still nothing. I am really going nuts here on what causes this.
Also the device light drivers are present, and notification/charging leds are working correctly, even auto backlight is working correctly.
If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very thankful.
So I guess there is no solution to this?

Hey Ive seen issues with people having trouble with the distribution of LEDs on the keyboard with not seeing keys and others to bright and thats not me haha. I was wondering though if anybody knew a registry hack or something that would let the backlight on the keyboard stay on longer than 5 seconds? That is the biggest annoyance of this phone that ive seen so far.

Do a search for a utility called Advanced Config, it has a setting to change the backlight timeout, among a lot of other things. You'll need to have the ARM4i version of ppc .NET 3.5 installed also.
BEWARE: Use the tool at your own risk. Don't turn menu animations and start menu animations on, as it has caused my start menu to go really wonky (all the colors are jumbled and its impossible to read) Turning this off made it behave as expected. Just a warning
Hey thanks man. I didnt even know that setting was in advanced config and ive used since the mogul lol.
Doesnt work
I have tried the tweak in advanced config and nothing changed, has anyone else had luck with this?

This is one of the most annoying things about the TP. Anytime you pause for 5 seconds the keyboard backlight goes off! Grrr!
No kidding. I completely disabled the light sensor on my P4000, it was always on as long as the slider was open. I even watched an hour long episode of top gear while I sat in a Mazda dealership while having an oilchange done on my car.
I too have been equally frustrated with this. With no solution in sight, I think I might have thought of a program that could save our sanity. The only problem is that i've only THOUGHT of it and it doesn't exist yet. I've started a thread in the 'Development and Hacking' section. I have searched and haven't found an answer to this yet.
I hate the "Search" hardware button in the lower right of the Vibrant. I never use it, and I keep bumping it when I grab the phone, bringing up an annoying screen I have to close.
Is there a way to disable it, or at least rebind it to something useful (like Vlingo) ?
I'm running the stock OS from t-mobile, rooted.
Thanks in advance,
~A
Nobody knows how to do this??
I wouldn't mind making it my camera

Okay maybe I'm an idiot but I've looked everywhere for an answer to this and I can't find one.
I rooted my Sidekick 4G yesterday and everything worked great, until I noticed that my phone wasn't vibrating for notification. I tried messing around with the settings but no luck. I get haptic feedback but no notification vibrations. Anyone having this problem? Any way to fix this?
Additional information:
Rooted with SuperOneClick (latest version, I'm pretty sure).

Thank you!
P.S. I'm not very familiar with android tech stuff. I can figure stuff out but please be as noob-friendly as possible

I get haptic feedback when i type on the keyboard. However there is a specific setting for that. What doesn't happen is when i press the return key or back key (gosh iruno what it's called) it doesn't vibrate, thats part of haptic feedback right!?
anyways, back to your question, how about try set the sound profile to 'soung & vibrate' maybe that will help!? lemme know
Hey Guys,
well the topic already explains my concern. I would like to know if there is a way to activate on-screen buttons on my S3 like its standard on the GNex and deactive! the touch buttons, but not the Homebutton .
I find it not convenient to use the touch buttons because they are pretty far down in my opinion, Im always scared to drop the phone if I dont use two hands, while trying to touch it and sometimes if I push stuff whats on the bottom of the screen, I accidently push the touch buttons, this is pretty anoying too.
So, is there maybe someone working on sth. like that or is it even possible to change this without flashing a custom rom?
Thanks n greets
Rob
No one an idea?
I would also like it if someone can do this.
It's definitely possible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696092
Hi all, I am wondering if anyone knows how I can disable the touch capacitive buttons on the flyer/view.
I use my tablet in landscape a lot, and end up using the bezel as a handle and then hit the buttons, I am running DextersJB14 rom with the patch.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hm, strange enough, at the moment I use DextersJB16 and these buttons are not active. I used 14, 13 and 12 and cannot even remember the buttons were active... Did you look through dev settings?
i believe he is running mobileUI edition and i activated buttons here, and a fault in the wifi build.prop also enables the softnav buttons.
if the build.prop is modified , the hardware buttons remain active (as many requested for mobileUI) and softbuttons goes away.
it will be fixed so softbuttons are gone in next update, hardware buttons remain active in mobileUI

Interestingly enough, the buttons are not lit, but do respond. I didn't see any settings that appeared to be able to change this. Might be nice to make this a toggle setting in the future, though I don't know what that would entail for Dexter. I suppose I could try out 16, didn't realize it was out.
