cool how to install/use it?
i want to reflash to stock because my 4g stopped working with carbon custom rom on moto rola droid razr x912

After searching and trying for days, this has worked and I now have root access. Thank you.
Things that I set which may help others are:
I did a full factory reset and wiped all data and cache.
Connected via USB in "camera" mode rather than "Mass Storage"
Entered "Smart Actions" via Settings/Managed Apps.
System version was 98.72.165.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Android version:4.1.2
A common problem encountered when trying to root is when Smart Actions has already been initialised, either on a previously used system or of an unsuccessful attempt has already been made. In this case, simply go to applications and clear data for Smart Actions, then start over...

Hello, I am a noob to this and this would be my first post. I have an XT912 that was bone stock (been updated to Jellybean via network updates)and stuck in a bootloop. I have downloaded the droid razr utility (batman by Matt) to my Widows 7 computer, and tried the wipe all data option 1 and without wiping data option 2 and they both get stuck in the "writing system..." and that is as far as it goes. I've waited for hours, no change and eventually my battery has died. Yesterday I performed surgery on a cable and made a programmers cable so it will communicate and stay powered up as long as it is plugged in, I just can't seem get past the hang up when it goes to "writing system..." what could I be doing wrong here?

I had tried everything to remove a forgotten pattern on a droid xt 912 but no luck. i had used the xt912 utility and flashed via fastboot but still appears, pls help.

If wiping data didn't work, then it maybe bad flash memory, no fixing that.

Re-bricked after using original Droid Razr Utility XT912
Please forgive me as this is my first post. After using the original Droid Razr Utility XT912, I was able to re-flash to JB 4.1.2 and updated to the latest OTA. However, I could not get the utility to Root my phone (kept saying outdated/expired adb or something to that effect), so I was able to get root via Kingo Root. I then noticed that there was an updated version of Safestrap (3.75) vs. what I had been using prior (3.73), but when i downloaded and installed the apk, the phone reboots to the safestrap splashscreen (which appears oversized for the phone compared to my former working version 3.73) for about 10 seconds, then the screen goes black. I tried wiping everything from within the android recovery and re-running your updated utility to no avail. Please don't tell me I've finally killed off my old reliable. Many thanks in advance

This is a little off topic, this a safestrap issue not utility.
did you follow the readme.txt for the new safestrap?

Once again, sorry for what appears to be off topic, but as I stated earlier, it wasn't until I tried to install safestrap 3.75 that I had the problem. I followed the install instructions for ss, but since there was no older version onboard following a) re-flashing clean stock ROM while wiping data, I didn't need to uninstall previous version. And, yes all I get when rebooting is a non-responsive safestrap flashscreen for approx. 10 secs, then a black screen.

you don't have to flash firmware to remove safestrap, if stock rom slot is still stock
boot to stock rom, open safestrap app, select uninstall recovery, press home button
Menu>Manage Apps> select safestrap uninstall
delete twrp and safestrap folders from internal and external sd cards
done

I selected the safestrap menu on startup, selected boot to stock ROM but I do not know how to open the safestrap app. I do not see the safestrap app listed or uninstall recovery.

if you unrooted
probably need to reroot
reinstall original safestrap version
then go through uninstall steps

I recently performed the steps to update my RAZR MAXX (XT-912 CDMA) to the OTA JB update. I had no issues. I obtained Root privileges and installed the most recent version of Safestrap for my phone (3.11). No problems detected. I then booted into Safestrap recovery and created a new ROM slot. Installed Jellycore V1.5 to it as well as Gapps. Booted to that slot and NOTHING. The screen just goes black after the Safestrap screen. So I booted back into Safestrap recovery and tried to restore my backup to that slot...same result. When the phone is rebooted, it goes to the Safestrap screen where you can select continue or recovery. If I continue (by selection or waiting the 10 seconds) the screen just goes black. I left it that way overnight thinking it might take a while but no. I've tried reinstalling Safestrap, different ROMS, and reinstalling ROMS. Any ideas? Because I need my AOKP.

Update...
I can get ROM slot one to successfully install and boot motoblur-98.72.8-XT912.zip.
I cannot get it to boot jellycore v1.5 or CNA v1 or any other non stock ROM. What is going on. Tried Safestrap 3.11 and 3.05.
My DROID RAZR MAXX sent this on its own.

Trying to install to ROM slot 1. I had this same setup running fine (Jellycore as my daily driver) and never had any problems installing ROMs on Safestrap until I did the Stock update to JB.

I figured it out. When I updated to JB, it updated the kernel as well. I put the new AOKP JB ROM on and no problems. Oversight on my part.

bear with me, i am new to rooting the razr maxx ... i have rooted an htc thunderbolt, 3 gNexs, 2 nexus 7, and 2 galaxy s3s but i am havingw trouble with problem very similar to yours... but with a twist, i cant seem to remember all the the steps i took to produce this problem, as i was rooting my buddies razr maxx over super bowl weeekend and havent picked it up since ..... til now ... but anyways .. i did obtain root and had safestrap 3.11 installed... ok for starters the phone for one will not power on at all unless i plug it into a charger ... and when i do that i see the dual core screen and then it brings up the safestrap diabled screen and gives the option to press the menu button to reboot into recover or press the search button (or wait 10 seconds) to continue... when i press the menu button it goes to the black screen like u said ... when i wait 10 seconds it goes to the black screen and when i press the search button it goes to the black screen ... and then i end up having to use the volume down and power button to power it off (or if i unplug the charger it also powers off) ... when i plug it in again it automattically turns on and goes to the dual core screen and starts the process over ... i am however still able to get in to the boot menu ... and i tried to go into recovery mode that way and now the screen is stuck on the dual core screen with it plugged into the wall charger.... im thinking i have multiple issues ... one battery issue and i must have went wrong somehwere trying to flash a rom ...but wnho knows .. not me lol .... please please help ... we can do a google hangout and try to resolve this issue if you are willling ..... thanks in advance
Try taking it back to stock and starting over. Might be your best bet.

I am also having the issues mentioned in this forum. I rooted the razr maxx, then installed ss 3.11. I tried installing Jellywiz, and cm10.1 and neither worked. I did install the Vzn JB update for my phone before rooting it. Now the phone just does the boot loop and black screen thing. Any ideas?
if you boot to a blank screen and it stays there more than a minute or so after the kexec vibrate, you need to reboot to SafeStrap - switch to stock and boot it (optionally uninstall and reinstall recovery from the SafeStrap app). Then reboot and select your ROM slot and it should boot fine.

Are you wiping cache, dalvik, system, and factory reset after you create the rom slot? I had issues with a few ROMs until I wiped everything before installing a rom to a new slot. Also, you can run into this if you are trying to install a ROM into a ROM slot that had a different ROM installed on it previously. If that is the case just delete the slot and recreate it. (Oh and make sure it is not the stock rom slot that you are deleting, that would not be good) One last thing, some ROMs only work on ROM slot 1.

If you have safestrap installed then your stock ROM is already preserved. Are you trying to revert back to a previous kernel before the JB update?

yes, i'm using JB right now and i try to flash ICS rom using safestrap and seems like the flash is successful but when i wanna boot the ICS.. the screen just blank..

Timeline:
Rooted, and installed safestrap via razr blade utility... perfect
installed cm 10.1 & gapps on boot sector #1 as instructed.... perfect
tested phone, everything is working great...
Performed a factory reset via android settings menu (phone belongs to a co-worker). on reboot phone is just black.
paid closer attention, and realized that after safestrap timed out, phone wasn't booting to anything.
Now I have no OS installed, and when I try to partition slot 1 to reinstall, I get an error that it is "unable to partition"
Is there anything I can do short of a SBF, and starting over from scratch?

Seems to be a big gap between your first & second statements. Can you be more specific about why you did an FDR if everything was running right?
And where did you do it from, the stock, unsafe side or from the ROM in slot 1?
Sounds like you accidentally formatted internal storage where your ROM slots live, in which case, the least you'll have to do is to boot back to your stock side, uninstall recovery from the safestrap app & uninstall the app itself. Then use a file explorer to remove anything that says safestrap or twrp from your internal storage & reboot. Once it comes up, reinstall the safestrap 3.11 apk & install the recovery again & start over.
Your worst case, if you can't boot up into your stock ROM at all, is to use Matt's 1.82 utility to restore your stock image.

Did you make a backup of the stock system? Does the safestrap revovery screen still come up on reboot? Have you tried to delete slot 1 and re-create it? Or do the three wipes on slot1 (data/dalvik/cache) and re-install the ROM? Have you tried to hit the menu button (left side) and go back in to safestrap and enable the stock system? If the stock system will come back up you can go in and disable the recovery and remove safestrap and try to re-install it. If not I am afraid you will probably have to fastboot back to stock.

I did a factory reset, because the phone is not mine... I checked that everything was working and then reset so he'd start off the the setup wizard.
I think gary is right, I made a backup, which is gone, and I can't partition any of the rom slots? how did a fdr format everything except safe strap... is there no way to fix it without running the unbrick utiity and starting from scratch?

An FDR should not have removed your stock ROM, just the user data. Shouldn't touch the system partition at all. Can you boot into the stock side? If you can't, your only option is to use the 1.82 utility to start fresh with the stock .16 image. Can you boot up the stock ROM?

that's what I thought but here I am... I can't do anything but get to safestrap, if I exit safe strap it says No rom install and the screen goes black until I do a simulated battery pull

instead of running the unbrick utility, cause it wasn't bricked... I just ran the razr blade utility again from scratch... flashed the stock rom from there and had to go through all the steps again... good to go now though.

Cant you just take stock based zips for safestrap and flash it
HELP!!!!
I'm a semi-amateur at rooting, and I'm worried I bricked my wife's Droid Razr MAXX. Here's what happened:
A year ago, I rooted her Razr and installed safestrap, which came with its TWRP interface. It had been running slow, so yesterday I said I'd put her on a new ROM. I installed CM 10.1.3 and everything seemed to go smoothly. After I'd finished the install of the ROM, using safestrap and TWRP, I reinstalled all her apps and everything.
Then I reinstalled SuperSU, VooDoo OTA Rootkeeper, and Safestrap v2.11. I ran safestrap and noticed it said it didn't have custom recovery installed, even though I knew it did. I don't know why, but I hit the button to install custom recovery.
Well, her phone was being screwy so she reset it at work. It then began to bootloop, and she turned it off (power + vol up + vol down). I turned it on, the safestrap splash screen showed, and I hit "menu" to boot into recovery.
Instead of TWRP, I am getting the green and black stock recovery screen. Uh oh, right? So I don't know what to do now. I wiped cache and dalvik to see if it'd reboot, but still, it bootloops.
Do I hit "Disable Safestrap (if stuck in recovery)"? I'm afraid to do anything at this point, out of fear of bricking her device. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Download RSD Lite 5.7 and download the 4.1.2 firmware here
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_spyder/list.php make sure you have a good charge on the phone, (it won't charge in fastboot) then open the firmware in RSDlite extract, put your phone in fastboot mode (Vol+ Vol- power select fastboot) plug the phone into your computer using your micro USB that came with the phone. Did you try to install SS from within CM? SS is intended to be installed and managed on stock. Did you install CM on a new slot in recovery?
Also, the latest SS version is 3.60.
For future reference, your actions should've been these:
1. Uninstall custom recovery using whatever SS you have installed on stock.
2. Uninstall SS and install newest SS version.
3. Install custom recovery using the newly installed SS.
4. Reboot into TWRP, create NEW slot and flash ROM.
Right now, I'd recommend what nickmoogo said above - start fresh, and do everything in order this time around, good luck!

That's exactly what I did. I have no idea why I did it either. Since I was on v2.11, clearly it's been a while since I touched her phone. So there's no way other than starting over from stock firmware, huh? If I could just get back to the TWRP interface I'd be much more comfortable, but I know SS's version of TWRP is unique. If starting fresh is the safest bet, that's what I'll do. Thanks guys!

Someone more knowledgeable than myself could maybe advise more in this case. Start fresh is what *I* would've done.
Flashing stock is not that hard of a procedure, and after installing some roms and finding the one that works the best for you, you won't be seeing much of stock anyways, I know I don't.

I just installed SafeStrap 3.65 on my phone, then created a new rom slot and installed CM11-M2. It seemed to install fine, but when I rebooted it just shows the red Motorola logo and then a black screen, nothing else. I have no way to get back into SafeStrap. I can get into the stock recovery, but it doesn't seem very helpful at the moment.
Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

Most likely not what you're looking for, but you could always fastboot back to stock if needed.
Did you flash anything else with cm?

This happened to me. I never could figure out what went wrong so I eventually did restore stock using Matt's utility ( used the option to do a full data wipe ). Then I booted into stock and accepted the OTA update from Verizon. Then I ran Matt's utility to gain root access, but I did not use Matt's utility to install SafeStrap.
Instead I downloaded SafeStrap 3.65 and manually installed it. At this point I could successfully boot into SafeStrap and create and activate a ROM slot ( I recommend creating slot 1 for CM10.x and slot 2 for CM11 ). I then installed CM and gapps and was able to successfully reboot into the custom ROM.

I ended up having to set everything back to stock and then re-root and install SafeStrap.

I had seen a lot of issues for users who have stock ICS ROM, and try to install safestrap 3.73 to later install cyanogenMod on another ROM slot. Though I too had the same issue, I could track this to a problem with safestrap3.73. Instead using safestrap3.65 will solve the issue. The battery will charge even if the phone is off and also it is possible to boot into the stock ROM

Is it possible to keep the safestrap available after formatting /system partition on stock slot? My safestrap always gone after flashing a new rom when doing a clean install.

Please if anyone can help.
I was having a lot of issues with the phone and decided to go back to stock and when i wiped I must have not selected the stock rom lot and when it rebooted (no os).
A total bonehead move.
I do have the backup of the stock os in the twrp folder in sd card however I can't install from android recovery.
Is there some thing I can do the make this file install??
Please if any one can help it would be greatly appreciated .

If you have XT910 then the only way to get back to stock is to flash Sbf file for your region with Rsd lite.
If you have XT912 you must use Matlgroff's Utility.

Android recovery can not restore backups from a custom recovery.
Android recovery is stock motorola recovery and can only install official updates (if correct stock rom is already installed ), wipe cache, and wipe data/factory reset.

Power off, Hold volume buttons, Power on, release buttons at
Boot Mode Selection Menu> Scroll down with volume down button, to BP Tools, Select with Volume UP button, should boot directly to SafeStrap
I have the most recent Safestrap on my phone, SS 3.75 on Razr maxx, but was wondering if this version can be used on other phones. A friend has a Samsung Stratosphere 2 that is having issues, much like my phone was. I was going to root it and use the magic of root to make it run better, so it lasts till she gets a new one. Everything I've read talks about flashing CWM, I'm more familiar with Safestrap. I did see in one post, #321 of this thread, that someone modified Hashcode's safestrap. But they use this to launch CWM. They say they can't launch Safestrap. I've read through a lot of that thread, seems to be the only one about rooting that phone, and get lost in the tech talk of things. I may have to get info from my friends phone and post to that thread.
Any advise is appreciated.

safestrap and any custom Recovery must be built for the device you are going to use it on.
I believe source files are posted on download site.

I was afraid of that. I"ll have to look into it more. Also I realized I'm running Safestrap 3.74, installed it before the update on the 31st. Will the new one install over the old one, or do I have to uninstall 3.74 to install 3.75? That is when and if I find the need to do that.

if you installed the debugged version likely do not need to upgrade, but if you have 3.74 or lower use Safestrap-XXXXXX-v3.75.apk (or newer)

I have a XT910 rooted ICS 4.0.4 and install Safestrap for custom ROM. But when wanted to do partition, only found 780MB so accidentally wipe all data without backup original stock ROM. I am now stuck and "Android Systen recovery <3e>" without any stock ROM and try update other ROM with E: signature not verified error. How to get out of this?
Btw, unable to go into AP Fastboot by pressing Vol up + dwn + Pwr! Always got into Android System Recovery <3e>..

You can not install anything in android recovery
To boot to fastboot mode
Power off, Hold volume down, power on
You need to flash stock firmware with RSD Lite.
