Viewpad 7 Gingerbread (Vanilla AOSP)
I'm currently working on a Vanilla AOSP Gingerbread firmware for the Viewsonic Viewpad 7 (and equivalent devices), and hope to release an alpha for testing soon. The purpose is to have a slim and fast firmware as close to the AOSP code as possible.
Highlights:
- Making the maximum possible internal storage available.
- Bottom line performance enhancements.
- Multiple language support.
Notes:
- Gingerbread v 2.3.4
- Firmware should work with compatible devices such as: Cherry Mobile Superion, Commtiva Linx N700, Olivepad VT-100, Spice MI700, and Camangi FM600....but I do not have these devices, so I cannot verify. As always make a backup before installing any custom firmwares.

Looking forward to it!
Well to be honest gingerbread runs terrible on this device at the moment, and I have several force close conditions to deal with in addition to getting all the main features working properly. I am using my original Moto Droid that I have a vanilla GB loaded on (1Ghz) as a performance comparison since the hardware is fairly close in regards to benchmarks.
I'm going to keep pushing towards a relatively stable beta release for people to test, but I think this will end up being a long term project since I only get a little time on weekends to work on it. I'm not certain whether this device will be capable of running Honeycomb in the future, so this is our best bet for now. I'm not planning on upgrading to a new tablet anytime soon, so I can assure you I want GB working as much as the next guy.
good job! ^^
can give me kernel source too?^^
hi lakehousetech, how's the progress ??
would love to hear good news and start using gingerbread.

Wow, Gingerbread ROM is coming... Looking forward to it. BTW, good job getting ROMs on the device.
I am very glad that you did not quit work on porting gingerbread. Good luck. We are waiting for your beta.
Any updates yet? I'm willing to help test it, too.
Nice work man! My device is ready for testing!

Hey lakehousetech,
Is there any things we can help in the technical side? As I'm the owner of the Viewpad7 and really wanted to eat the gingerbread with the viewpad7

I'm hoping to release the update.zip next week (before memorial day weekend). It would be a huge help if some folks would install it temporarily and give me some feedback. Unfortunately for this release you'll most likely have to do a complete wipe before installing. I'm going to test on my Viewpad first, and will confirm before release. Thanks for being so patient.
Very willing to do any tests!
Send me the link, and I will flash away!

Hi Matika, our team is still small but we are working on adding tablet support soon!
This would be a huge feature to have! Considering everyone and there cousin has a tablet or phablet. Not to mention there are so many off brand tablets now it will make your head spin.
And? It`s 2014 and still no support for tablet (Nexus 7)
Still No update for tablets?
I waited whole 2013 now 2014 going to end , still no update?

The app itself still isn't 100% ready for mobile phones. Once it is ready, we'll focus all our attention on tablets :victory:

I have 3 tablets I use, and my only decent options for a launcher are Nova, Apex, etc. I like the launchers with homesceens that can be applied as is, but since I use all my tablets in landscape mode, Themer, Buzz, etc might work, but there aren't any homesceens designed to run in landscape.
I'd love to see tablet support as well...
Yeah, it's excited to update for tablets .
Tablet-support would be neat!

Was wondering if tablet support would be coming?
This would be amazing on a tablet like samsung 10.1 2014 edition.
And even cooler if these themes were some what animated.
It's hard to find any tablet homescreens on MCS, so I won't keep my hopes on.

Still no tablet support, right?
We'll wait...
Can i change DPI to make it work on nexus 7?
I like to use Chrome because it syncs tab history across my devices, and because I don't particularly like Firefox for desktop.

Our developers are still looking into Tablet support
I went to Google play and it says it is not compatible with my device, I take that to mean it does not work with tablets. Will you be adding support for these devices?
I have a Hisense Sero 7 Pro.
Curious as well
I've also looked around for this but couldn't find anything, I really hope support is added for tablets, I have a Nexus 7 that's currently running the aviate launcher!

The Tab S got Lollipop and Marshmallow, the Tab Pro didn't get a single update and got stuck on Kitkat.
In short: I don't think anybody has the answer to your question.

See the guides, news, and discussion sub forum. Seems it's coming.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Well, considering that we are still waiting for Oreo, if the S3 does get Android P, it would likely only arrive around mid 2019.
Would you be happy to wait that long? I wouldn't.
Having had my S3 since June 2017, I will most likely have moved on to another tablet by that time. (due to battery and performance issues that are likely to crop up as the tablet ages)
I'm keeping an eye on the tablet market as it seems likely that we will see a high-end Chrome tablet sometime in 2018, which in my opinion would likely be a better alternative to an Android P tablet.
I dont think so...
Google is ditching support for tablets from android P and up so if we get a update most likely we will get a Chrome OS update or a very very slim chance of Tizen but most likly samsung will just leave it as it is. Sometimes i wish samsung did not use Android anymore it is causing then sooooo many problems

Google is ditching its tablets not support for tablets.
Incorrect info.
No reason why Samsung won't continue to produce tablets and update the software for them as long as there is profit in the market. Probably even more so now Google have dropped its own tablets
Google only provide the base source code of each OS, it's up to the OEM's to tailor it to their needs.
Also just to note, historically higher end Samsung devices get 2 major updates.
Seeing as this device was released with Nougat, it's quite likely to receive one more update to Andoid P after receiving Oreo.
