Trouble Reinstalling Safestrap in Hyperdrive ROM - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I recently installed Hyperdrive RLS19 on a a I545 NC5 using Safestrap 3.75 KitKat A01. Everything works fine including wifi. I did have to restore the Android Device ID, which got changed somehow. I have rebooted several times into SS and used it to flash other stuff, etc. However, I decided to update the pre-installed version of SafeStrap, which was an older version. I first attempted to uninstall SS using System App Remover. The SS app appears to be gone; but then, when I tried to reinstall SafeStrap a message asked if I wanted to update this built-in app. The update then failed. I have two questions. If this has been explained elsewhere, please just point me in the right direction.
1. How can I reinstall SafeStrap 3.75, so that it matches the version of the installed recovery?
2. Is there any need to keep the SafeStrap app installed, after the recovery is installed and working? Does it do anything besides install and uninstall the recovery?
(I think I should be able to uninstall the recovery, if needed, by switching back to the stock ROM slot and uninstalling it from there.)
Thanks in advance for any help or explanations.
Also, kudos to the developers of Hyperdrive for an outstanding product.

Download the Safestrap 3.75 apk. Go into your old version of Safestrap and "uninstall recovery". Then from your app drawer, drag the Safestrap app to "uninstall app". Uninstall Busybox also. From the Play Store, download Selinux and Busybox. Reboot your phone. Go into Selinux and set Linux to "permissive". Go into the Busybox app and "install Busybox". Go to wherever the Safestrap 3.75 APK is and install it. Go into your Safestrap app and "install recovery" reboot. Profit.

The Safestrap app was removed. Usually, System App Remover makes a backup of apps removed, but in this case it did not make the backup; not sure why.
If you reboot after removing the recovery, does it automatically go into the last used ROM slot? Or does it default back to the stock slot?
Thank you for the assistance.

I reckon it should boot into whatever partition you were in before you removed Safestrap. You could just hotboot the phone and you wouldn't need to worry about that.

Hide root DME (Excitor)

Hello,
I wish to install (and use) the application DME Excitor (corporate emails) but it is detecting the root in some way.
I have a i9100 device with cm9.1 (latest stable one) & siyah kernel 5.0.1.
I've also made sure (using ExTweaks) that the kernel is not re-rooting the device every boot.
I've tried to remove the root using "Hide my root" / "ExTweaks" / "SuperSU" - and others that say they will hide the root - so far with no success!!!
Can you please suggest how to prevent DME from detecting my root?
I really don't mind unrooting the device - but please do not suggest me to return to stock!
Any help will be highly appreciated! :good::good::good:

sorry - no success yet
In case you find any way, please let me know
In my case it was a combination of:
1. Install SuperSU only on /data, not on /system - there's an option for that in SuperSU
2. Uncheck "Enable Superuser" in SuperSU settings
3. Reboot device

Did you tried it with DME ?
By default, installing the SuperSU from the play store is in '/data' (you can later change that option in settings to be set on '/system')
Anyway, tried that, didn't worked.
Any help would be highly appreciated. :good:
I wouldn't have posted the solution above if I hadn't tried it first with the program in question (DME). Make sure there's no /system/app/Superuser.apk (by installing SuperSU / Superuser only on /data) and also make sure to uncheck the "Enable Superuser" option within SuperSU.

Hi,
First of all thanks for trying to help.
There's no any Superuser.apk in /system/app/ (that's the first thing I've checked).
And I did made sure to uncheck the "Enable Superuser" option within SuperSU.
Still doesn't work.
If you don't mind me asking, could you please provide me with more details on your firmware?
Which rom are you using (is it Cyanogenmod)?
Special kernel?
CWM ?
Any details would help.
And once again, thanks!
Stock Samsung (XWLSS) firmware rooted via SuperSU CWM method, then uninstalled SuperSU via "Reinstall" option in SuperSU, then install SuperSU from the Play store, then uncheck the "Enable Superuser" option in SuperSU, then reboot. At this point DME will start and ask for credentials.

Thanks for the info.
I was afraid that you would note you're using a rooted stock firmware.
The thing is that by going back to stock rom, there's no need to root it and then unroot it to use the DME (simply use the stock firmware unrooted).
The first post on this thread was a question on how to use the DME on different rom than the stock one (such as CM).
After that being said, I would like to thank you for trying, but this didn't help me, since I wish to use the Cyanogenmod rom and DME together.
If you still have any suggestions on how to use the DME with a non-stock rom, I would be more than happy to hear.
I don't see how running CM is any different than running official. You should check that after disabling Superuser from within SuperSU that there is no "su" binary anywhere within the directories in the PATH variable (i.e. /system/bin or /system/xbin).
Is dual booting a stock/cm setup possible, and would that serve as a "workaround"?
Edit...just thought....even if possible, the dual boot kernel would probably give the game away....
Sent from my CM10 powered S2 via XDA Developers App
is there any solution at this point? I have cm installed and i want to use dme on my rooted phone...
finally!!! fully functional nexus 7 ))
meaning stock browser AND DME running
rooted with this method (from stock 4.2.2):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233852
installed stock browser from here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.aospinstaller
SuperSU settings (many thanks to bkraptor):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42009031&postcount=6
Can someone please let me know how to install superSU in /data. As If I instal UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip by using PhilZ-cwm6. It is installed by default in /system.
If I install it using Playstore it does the same got installed in /system. and further conflicts with SU installed by PhilZ-cwm6.
Will appreciate any suitable advice

[Q] Stuck disabled app

I've got an app that is listed as 'disabled' in application manager list, but when I select it to try and re-enable the button is grayed out and says 'disable' on it as if it was never disabled to start with.
How do I un-stick this app? TIA
What app is it?
You should be able to use any app or file manager to uninstall it.
Do you have root access?

The basic 'email' app. I had originally disabled that and 'exchange services' way back at the beginning (root required) because I wasn't using anything but gmail and was paring down on apps as much as possible. Now I have a reason to use it, and while I was able to enable 'exchange services' again, the other one just seems stuck. After the update to ICS and then JB I never installed root, and with the OTA updates it seems this particular app has gotten into a bit of a mangled state.

Well you can try installing them again. I'm going to assume you're on the latest 4.1.2 version. So here is the email apk and here is the exchange apk just in case you want to reinstall both.
Or you could gain root access and use an app to unfreeze them that way.
To root the stock 4.1.2 rom
1. Use Odin 1.85 in Admin Mode for Windows users.
2. Install TWRP 2.5 via PDA settings.
3. Reboot phone into Recovery.
4. Install SuperSU via the Zip.
5. Reboot phone and viola You're rooted!. SuperSU is there and works.

Grr. I downloaded the email apk and tried to run it, and it just failed with 'application not installed'. Apparently I buggered myself up good - I'll have to go the root option, any tips/tricks to keep in mind before I do that?

[Q] How to downgrade SafeStrap from 3.63 to 3.11?

Hi,
I have an XT-912 with SafeStrap 3.63 installed. I'd like to install Eclipse 2.2 but my understanding is that I would have to have SS 3.11 instead. I have the 3.11 apk and was planning just to run the upgrade process described on the hash-of-codes website in reverse (removing 3.63 and installing 3.11), but was wondering if there were any tricks that needed to be employed or possible problems to be aware of.
Thanks.
PS - not sure this matters but just in case: this is an old phone with no carrier service, just using it with wifi.

Open Safestrap 3.63 app from App Drawer, click Uninstall Recovery and after that uninstall Safestrap 3.63 app from your phone.
Then install Safestrap 3.11 Apk, open Safestrap 3.11 app from App Drawer and click Install Recovery.
Anyway, click Thanks if I helped you

Really appreciate the tip but I can't get it to work: now hangs on the open screen and then FC with "Unfortunately, Safestrap has stopped."
I think I did everything right - uninstalled as instructed, used the 3.11 apk from Hashcode's goo-dot-im site (sorry, too few posts to post links), installed as instructed. After it didn't work, I uninstalled 3.11, booted into stock recovery and cleared cache, downloaded the apk again and reinstalled. Still didn't work.
Any thoughts?

I tried it too and I have the same results... I don't know why, maybe it needs a factory reset in order to return to a previous Safestrap version... One more thought, after uninstalling 3.65 try to delete everything related to Safestrap and TWRP from the internal storage, then reboot to Motorola's recovery and wipe cache & dalvik, then try 3.11. It's just a thought, I haven't tried it myself, if it doesn't work then I don't know why...
You might need to delete the safestrap folder from sdcard also.
Haven't tried it but thats what I would do.
Thanks guys but no luck.
And now when I re-install 3.63 it thinks I don't have root. (Verified in Terminal Emulator.)
Oh well, I guess I'll either live with stock or have to start from scratch (e.g. with Matt's utility).
I'm running SS 3.53, trying the same issue. the problem I'm having is that I don't have a working ROM besides Stock, when i go to Stock ROM slot, Safestrap is disabled, and isn't located in the app drawer, I've tried other ROMS for 4.1.2 and they fail during flash, almost immediately. Any suggestions?

Safestrap force close on NC5

Successfully updated my wife's S4 from MK2 to NC5 w root. Now I can't open Safestrap, both 3.71 & 3.72 force close as soon as I open the program. I have not been able to flash anything in Safestrap either, although that's probably because I've not been able to flash the 3.72 version since it force closes upon opening. Tried clearing data and no luck. If I revoke it's root access and reopen the app, it asks for root and then closes after I grant root. I verified that root works for other apps. Any ideas?

3,71 will not function on kitkat. Did you uninstall 3.72 and reinstall it? Is your SU updated?
You might have to odin a clean NC5 image and start the process over

Try downloading an app called SELinux Mode Changer from the Play Store and setting it to Permissive. I was having the same exact issue and that fixed it for me.

Sm-g730a root, twrp, and xposed

After successfully having flashed the stock firmware for this phone, installed TWRP, and installing the Xposed framework, I thought I would share what I did.
First, I ODIN'D the 4.4.2 firmware, generously hosted by Tsar3000 at:
http://www.tsar3000.com/Joomla/inde...ini AT&T Firmwares&catid=55:samsung&Itemid=82
Secondly, I used kingoroot apk to root the phone, which worked the first time.
EDITED PART: you need to download SElinux changer and set it to permissive after rooting and before doing anything else.
Third, I downloaded the safestrap(TWRP) apk for this phone at:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24499762636000015
And then, the Xposed Installer:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Then finally, I used the recovery flashable zip to install SuperSU(Version 2.79):
http://www.supersu.com/download
EDIT TWO: BEFORE DEBLOATING, USE SAFESTRAP TO REBOOT TO RECOVERY THEN BACKUP YOUR ROM. I was able to use System app safe remover to get the total down from over 200 to 48 apps with no failure. Be careful though.. Removing certain key modules is causing home button malfunctioning after removing.
From there, use System App Safe Remover to remove Kingoroot and it's own SuperUser app.
FOR SCREENSHOTS, CHECK ATTACHMENTS.(taken after I de-bloated)
System App Safe Remover
I followed all the steps as stated in the OP with great success, but the only part I'm confused about is the System app remover utility. Is that found on the Play Store, or is it built into the Superuser app we flash in the recovery. You'll have to forgive me I am pretty rusty when it comes to Android. It's what happens when you become dependent on iOS for so long.
