Seems like the N6 doesn't have LED notification, but what about the N9?
That's a good question, probably not but would be nice!
Why not?

EDIT:
nvm, in a review it was mentioned that this is indeed the LED.
So I have a Nexus 9 and a Nexus 5 running the Dev Preview of Lollipop. The Nexus 5 has a setting in Notifications that says "Pulse Notification Light." The Nexus 9 does not, and I haven't seen it pulse once.
I think it's actually the ambient light sensor that's at the bottom middle of the device, if held portrait.
No notification light.

If so, that's a strange place to put an ambient light sensor. Logically, an ambient light sensor should always be facing you because thats how it knows how much light you need for that environment. That's how it is for phones, monitors, and hdtvs as far as I know.
Having a notification LED on the outer edge makes sense to me because then you can see the light even when you have a cover over it.
The [email protected] sensor is placed next to the front camera, only visible in bright daylight.
The plastic on the top is for the antenna according to reddit.
There is also a place at the bottom, maybe a notification led but not active yet?

Yeah, running the test that doesn't light up.
Guessing it's a sensor or antennae design like the M8.
No LED
Hi
Certainly appears to be an LED at the bottom of the screen in the middle which matches the postion of the LED on the Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 4 and 5.
Not sure why it isn't working.
The ambient light sensor is to the right of the camera, tested by shining a light at it!
What looks like a plastic translucent spacer that could be an LED in the top trim by the right edge of the speaker is actually nothing more than a painted rectangle! There is no break in the trim at that point, just a bit of paint for a reason completely known to us mortals.

Phil

Hi
As an update, IFix it have posted tear down pictures.
There is definitely something directly underneath that small clearing in the glass screen above the USB port, see the picture here, the component just above the USB socket on the circuit board https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/1AkZVNkQqSqubWeh
It doesn't look much like a typical surface mount LED, although it could perhaps be a high brightness/high flux LED rather than a Red/Green/Blue LED given the color of it. It could be high flux so it can work at much lower current and still be bright enough for a white indicator.
It might be some other type of sensor altogether. Any ideas?
Regards
Phil

It's only noticeable on black or really dark backgrounds but does everyone else's home button bleed a bit of light into the screen or just mine? I'll see if I can snap a pic tomorrow.
Yupp... Once an led brightness mod is created it should be better.
Yeah noticed this from day one. Mine is not just on the really dark screens either but I think every phone I've ever had has had something like this in one way or another....no biggie.

Mine was ordered via TeleSales. Should I call them and report this for a replacement, or take to a store and get a replacement there? Will the store replace it if I got it online?
If you have light bleed issues, you should get a replacement. Mine is perfect - zero light bleed. First HTC device I've owned that didn't have at least a little.

you can also download an app from the market that test your screen for dead pixels and it helps find light-bleed as well. I believe it's called Screen test, just type that in the play store and you'll find it.

You have 30 days to do whatever you want with it.
I had light bleed on my first EVO LTE. The light bleed is most apparent when the button lights are on, the screen backlight is at its dimmest setting, and the screen is black. A great way to test is to install the flash-the-brain.com FlashLight app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.flashLight) and swipe down to set it to the dimmest setting. A picture of my first phone and the replacement are below (this was a long exposure in a completely dark room, so it didn't look quite so bad in real life):
I have it also, i didn't always notice it but definitely there at times... must be when the lights are on the buttons like ahecht pointed out

If you were REALLY bent on making some form of FLIR. A cheap webcam with the infrared filter removed and a IR LED floodlight or just a few LEDs bought online will do the trick for you.
Heck, depending on how sensitive the camera chip is to infrared, you may even be able to 'see' in low light conditions if you have a bright enough IR source.

If an infrared LED is one component that is needed you can buy a flashlight that uses several "modules" and interchange them as needed. For example there are regular LED, incandescent, ultraviolet, flood, throw, blue, red, green, and infrared LED modules. Only problem is that the infrared ones there is some red glow form the led.
Not sure what else i needed to get the cellphone working on night vision.
On another note using a cellphone for night vision is kind of an oxymoron. A webcam hooked so that you can view at a remote location with no light I can see. But with a cellphone the light hitting your eyes from the screen kind of defeats the purpose of night vision.

another problem is that a lot of camera sensors have an IR filter (removing any unwanted effects from the non-visible IR spectrum)
you might have to peel off that filter somehow

Android Police completely disagrees with you--they see the HTC LED's as pointless because they are so small. Coming from an SII, I'm just happy to have an LED.
But there's also the fact that the S3 and the S4 have LED's that can show all colors, while the HTC one can only show two colors, three if you combine the two.

I've had 3 gs3's... and no... the HTC ONE is brighter. Also the flash frequency helps you to see if you have a notification faster vs. the gs3. With my gs3 I literally had to stare at it for a few seconds to see if my led was flashing. I don't know what's wrong with your ONE but I can see my led just fine at all angles and light situations.

I didn't care for the different color leds. Pointless IMO.
I've seen Green, Red and Orange LED(Orange while charging) - Red when my battery got under 10%
It is definitely brighter than the S3
The LED light on HTC One is so much smaller than the S3 and S4. Also, I tried light manager and it didn't read any color but green and red.
Don't really know what to tell you.

Anyone here ever have the first Evo from Sprint and HTC? It took awhile for someone to figure out that there was a hidden BLUE light on the opposite side of the the red/green combo
Im hoping this is the same deal lol
hardware limited i think. and htc did not support api for developer.
Another forum commented that light flow works, just that the led will be solid instead of blinking?
I think there are only two LEDs, red and green. And they are both tiny and pretty hard to see from a distance. The LEDs are probably the biggest downside to this phone, although my old iPhone didn't even have any so I don't notice it as being too big of a problem.
There are custom kernels that can enable the back/home buttons to blink on & off during a notification (BLN).
Well I tried lightflow using the direct/root method.
It worked, but there are only 3 possibly 4 color choices.
Green - red - orange(dark orange)
I didn't like it, and reverted back but now it seems as if my LED's are not as bright as before.
Anyone else have this issue?
Hey guys!
so this has happened to me a few times now with this V10... I'm not sure what to make of it, and haven't been able to nail down a fix or cause... But the screen starts to randomly display blacks as greys the whole screen seems to go pale or grey... Like this, with Tapatalk I have the dark theme, its black normally, but here its grey. The only thing that fixes is a lock then unlock, but that doesn't keep it fixed. It will go away within a few minutes, but strange. Any opinions?

Yeah had the issue on all three v10's Ive owned. The first two had to do a factory reset. This one did it once and that was it. Don't know what causes it, but it's a backlight thing. This is why it's not showing up in the screen shot.
I've seen the phone adjust contrast such that the screen appears lighter (blacks become grays, etc). This only happens when the phone is in direct sunlight. It's apparently a "feature" to help you see the screen better, with no way of disabling. It does go back to normal as soon as you get the sensor out of direct sunlight.

It doesn't happen in G3 and it was implemented first (AFAIK) with Lumia 920 which is another proof that that device was way ahead of its time.
It helps a lot under direct sunlight and I'm very pleased to see it being implemented with V10.

It is a feature. Much like the Notion Ink Adam with pixel qi screen, would act like a paper White type screen on readers when exposed to strong light or direct Sun light. Any other device or phone in same situations I've not been able to see or read the screen eve with Hand over it to shadow, except my G4 and now v10. Love the feature.

They might have different screens, not sure. But Lumia 920 goes very grayish under sun; blacks becoming dark gray etc.
Mine looks a bit like the image on the left, and I am just wondering if this is very common and it would take multiple returns to get a better display.

It looked really bad and that way (like a paper texture) on my display when using the battery saver when turning down the display resolution to lower brightness levels (on LG Stock ROM).
This was something I noticed quite heavily at the beginning when getting the device.
HOWEVER
I haven't seen this on non-Stock firmwares so far, even in lower brightness.
Looks like it could be an effect of power saving measures on Stock firmware which exposes the grainyness of the Diamond Pentile Matrix of the display more
The same thing happens to me while using the cameras in low light. Is this not an issue with all units?
Edit: This goes away completely if the brightness is above 50%

I can confirm that as well, high brightness eliminates the bloching, especially in dark gray tones. however, something even more weird, brightness of 25% or lower can make some shades of gray completely disapear! they simply turn to black!

Just checked with a YouTube reviewer. He says that this is a known issue with all LG poled displays (v30, v30s and Pixel XL). So replacement won't really help me.

The low brightness and yellow-ish colors(White mainly) I could tolerate but not these noisy sandpaperish display. Don't wanna deal with more returns and stuff so back to Essential phone.
The grainy display only is on grey backgrounds on low brightness and is completely gone if I increase the brightness a bit. I can deal with that for a display this good. BTW my hardware version is displayed as v1.1, maybe you should get that.

Mine is a hw version 1.1 and I see grainy/blotchy greys at brightness under 40%.
V40 may have fixed this but it has a notch. Maybe I'll upgrade if the v50 is a fullview display.
