[Q] Have I killed my Z2? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have a Sony Xpeia Z2 which has a locked bootloader. I managed to get into TWRP recovery using the dualrecovery APK and tried to install CarbonRom custom ROM and Gapps. All installed fine but when I rebooted the phone nothing happens now. If i keep my finger on the power button it just vibrates once every 5 seconds and thats it. I can boot it into fastboot but that is it. I can't boot into recovery as it was not flashed as bootloader is still locked and is set "unlock allowed=no"
Have i just killed my phone? is there a way to return back to stock or flash a different custom rom that will work?

you need to unlock your bootloader to flash carbon rom
you can use this guide to recover your device
[INFO] ALL You Need To Know About Owning A Xperia Z2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53220435&postcount=4
just a note, instead of holding volume up and power you can hold the red power switch above the simcard in the port on the left side of the phone, its a red reset switch, its quite small
about pt 2 is where it asks

Roms with [LB] are suitable for devices with Locked Bootloaders, I don't quite get whats got you so annoyed about the bootloader being unlockable?

rooted unsure if unlocked bootloader

Well I followed http://galaxynote2root.com/ tutorial on rooting my note 2. Ended up bricking it, it was a soft brick and was able to restore with not the stock rom but a rooted stock rom that I luckily had because the stock rom would boot loop. Fast forward 3 months, Still running same rooted rom but is acting up now freezing locking up unresponsive. Pull the battery and it is fine for a couple days.
So I got fed up with it now I want a custom rom and I went to install one unsure if the bootloader is unlocked. Casual keeps calling me a noob and wont unlock Odin wont install anything even if it does it wont change anything. So I am stuck can't go to stock can't get a custom rom, and this phone is driving me nuts with locking up. All I know for sure is I am rooted on 4.1.1 unsure of current room not bootloader and possible s off?
what's a guy to do?

first things first. try to reboot into recovery either by your phone or (once phone is shut completely off, press vol up + home button then power button HOLD VOL UP/HOME BUTTON as you press power) whether it boots to android stock recovery or custom then that'll tell you.

You should boot into a custom recovery. If its stock recovery you are not unlocked. Look at the casual thread in original development for instructuons on how to unlock.

How do I enter CWM

I'm about to install KitKat 4.4 on my Sony Xperia P but I can not get into CWM mode!
Some say I should press Home + Volume down (doesn't work) and some say Power + Volume up (doesn't work) or Power + Volume down.
Which is it???? There should be three vibrations and then....?
Thanks!

I am taking it you did not unlock bootloader, case you cannot flash no non stock based custom ROMs.
Forget about ROM manager, it's not gonna work on XP, not untill they make it work on XP which I don't think they did.
Install recovery using recoverx its a windows software then after install shut down and use volume up at Sony logo.

She has to flash a kernel to get CWM, no?
Ok, see.
You'll need to unlock the bootloader to have the CWM, Sony stock doesn't has a CWM to flash ROMs so it won't work but here's the thing...
In order to get CWM you have to unlock the bootloader and fast boot flash a custom kernel, once you got it you can enter by pressing volume up repeatly, or depending in the kernel you've flashed.
If my vocabulary is so strange to you, I can explain you better, I guess.
But that's it.

No there is CWM for unlocked bootloader, But since the OP wants to install CM anyway he/she need unlocked bootloader.

Ah, okey! No I have not unlocked the bootloader (yet) and I am reading about RecoveryX for the moment and if I have understood it correctly I will get CWM with it, yes?
I am going to install cm-11-20131201-UNOFFICIAL-nypon-NIGHTLY-14 and gapps-modular-mini-4.4-20131118-signed on my LG Optimus x2 first, before I try it out on my new Xperia - just to make sure I like it and that the incoming call bug is gone with 4.4.
No need to upgrade if the incoming and outgoing dialer issue is still there.
It has CWM installed and is ready to go.
Ps. Yes, I'm a woman.

So THAT's when I do it - at the Sony logo! Thanks!
I have tried RecoveryX before, never worked.
You must have bootloader unlocked to install CM and since you going to flash kernel anyway just use the provided kernel don't bother with recovery.
I don't know if the dialer issue present in JB CMs at all, so you might try them first. CM11 is still in early stage.
LG has the call lag also?
Sorry deleted i saw it to late it was for kitkat
Well, first, like everybody has told you, Unlock the bootloader, then for incoming call lag, i recommend you try CM10.2 or CM11, those are good in this .. and are great for daily use, no big problems.
For unlocking your bootloader you should follow the steps that Sony™ gives you. That´s the easy way.
Have luck..!

Unbrick Xperia Z2

OK, I decided to put a custom ROM on my Z2 today. I did not unlock bootloader, but installed NUT's Dual Recovery. It booted, installed ROM fine. I decided I wanted to reinstall to change some settings, wiped data and davlik, rebooted (by accident), and now I'm just suck at SONY logo on boot. Please help, not sure how to fix this. I can power off by Power Button + Volume Up, or the red button on left side. I just want to get it back into recovery so I can reflash, or whatever I need to do to revive it. Searched around, not finding much to fix it. Please help!

OK, I at least got that far using proper instructions, still doesn't boot though, stuck at SONY logo.
Nevermind, it worked now. It was telling me some weird instructions, had to have it in fastboot, unplug and plug back in again without doing anything. It's booting now. Why would this happen? Maybe I just need to unlock my bootloader?

No, it has nothing to do with unlocking your bootloader. If you were using flashtool you probably didn't plug it in in the correct mode.
As for unlocking your bootloader, read the instructions on any ROM's OP. It will tell you whether it needs an unlocked bootloader or not. Sony stock based ROMs sometimes do and sometimes don't. AOSP based ROMs do need an unlocked bootloader as that is needed to flash a custom kernel. If you do want to unlock your bootloader, read up on how to root your device first without unlocking and then read up on how to back up the TA partition of your device. This partition is effectively your warranty and contains the DRM keys to all of Sony's proprietary software. If you unlock your bootloader without a backup, you lose your DRM keys and they are non retrievable. Thus, if you want to send the device off for a repair, without restoring the TA partition you cannot restore your warranty and it will be declined. Having your TA partition backed up means that if you ever need to send it off, you can restore it and this locks your bootloader and reverses any DRM key loss.

something wrong

Hi All
Have rooted my UK 6833 LTE
I have dual recovery and i think i put GPe custom rom (BeanStalk-4.4.4010-20140729-togari_gpe) by accident as mines a LTE model
I lost my phone signal.
So i downgraded to stock.
Tried to put another rom and says my phone is GPe
Now i cant put GPe or non GPe custom roms in my phone
any ideas
many thanks
how did you 'down grade to stock'?
The best way to continue will be to extract the kernel (boot.img) from the zip of the ROM you want to flash and fastboot it then use that to flash the ROM zip:
Download correct ROM
Download flashtool http://flashtool.net
Extract boot.img
Copy ROM to SD card
Power off phone
Run flashtool (if windows 8.x read about installing unsigned drivers)
Select 'flash'
Select 'fastboot'
Select 'select kernel to flash'
Connect phone while holding vol up key
Disconnect phone
Boot phone
Enter recovery (vol up when LED turns purple)
Flash ROM
Wipe as needed
Reboot phone
Installed stock rom 4.4.4, working now.
But I still can't install custom roms.
I'm after putting rom beanstalk 4.4.4, it looks great
Ah maybe u have to open bootloader

Yes you will have to unlock the BL, but first back up the TA partition. See the stickies in the General section

Really? Im little bit happy now. But We Backed up the drm keys. What kind of benefits it has for us? Or we just backed up and throw away it?
And Last Question is how can i change the bootanimation on xperia x? Since I upgraded Marshmellow, I cant change the bootanimation on any device (i had M4 before Xperia X), How can I handle this, yknow my friend?
With DRM-Keys you can make the device official again (Get OTA Updates etc.) But you don't need it, as long you have unlocked boot loader.

Bootanimation folder: /oem/bootanimation on stock ROM and on custom default /system/media
Does flashing the DRM_Key after locking back the bootloader does the trick? Or I should so something else to boot the device after locking it?

If you flash your DRM Keys back it will automatically lock your bootloader. I hadn't find a working method to restore DRM keys till yesterday, it did bricked my phone but reflashing the stock rom waked it up with DRM Keys restored and locked bootloader
This method worked but as I said in a broken way (works only if you are rooted)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
You can try this too, but didn't worked for me, I kept getting permission denied error in adb/cmd (rootless)
