Hi guys, i have a canadian version G850W (should be the same as the G850A), and I was trying to root it following this instruction for G850F :skyneel.com/2014/09/root-samsung-galaxy-alpha-sm-g850f-by-simple-tutorial.html
It did not work and bricked my phone, I then tried to recovery it with the original firmware i got from sammobile, com, but after rebooting the phone was stuck on the logo screen, i have tried two different firmwares and still the same thing. Can anyone please help me???!!!!
Thanks a million!!!
try to get into recovery mod and wipe /factory reset then the other option wipe data then reboot , see if this help you
Firstly, DO NOT flash anything to your phone that is for a different model and just assume it will work for yours, as you've discovered it usually ends in disaster. Secondly, DO NOT flash anything to your phone that is for a different model and just assume it will work for yours, as you've discovered it usually ends in disaster. Thirdly, remember firstly and secondly.
Now then, its no good trying two different firmwares, get the exact firmware for your country and carrier, flash it using the latest odin with your phone in download mode(volume down, home button and power button then volume up to confirm), then when its done and starting to reboot, pull the battery. Then replace the battery and, as @omarsalah007 has said, enter recovery,(hold volume up, home button and power button all together) once in recovery use the volume key to move down to "wipe data/factory reset", then press power button to select, also try "wipe cache partition". If it doesn't work I'm out of ideas unfortunately, I wish you luck.

OKay, I'm an idiot and will admit it. I tried rooting my SGS2... it worked - sort of, but my cell reception dropped completely. The home button also stopped working. To make things worse I went back and tried it again, as well as REroot to fix the problems only to now get myself into a reboot that I cannot get out of.
I am here:
Android System Recovery <3e>
Enter: OK Key. Select: Vol Up / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
The problem is that I can't select the options because the HOME button is inactive. I have tried rebooting, resetting, pulling the battery. Nothing works. I am stuck. Is this what you would called 'bricked'? Forgive me for asking, but I SERIOUSLY appreciate anyone helping me out.
I am contemplating going into the Sprint store to get it fixed. I am aware that voids the warranty?
Thanks...
An Idiot
If you're in recovery menu try using the power button to make a selection.
You probably don't have an I9100 (since you mentioned Sprint) and are flashing stuff for the wrong phone.
Fwuffy86 is right, use the Power button instead. I had the same problem yesterday.

Guys,
I'm rooted, with MDK base, and THOUGHT I had a working version of CWM (maybe 6.0.2.3?)
I was in the process of getting ready to try out a new ROM; going through the usual motions, formatting system, data, cache, and for good measure, I finished with a Wipe Data/Factory Reset (which I believe just does the same things again).
The phone suddenly rebooted and froze at the samsung custom screen. When I try to get back to recovery, I can't (hold down up-vol and power; blue message appears and disappears quickly in upper left, and back to Samsung custom lock screen.
I'm stuck. In the past, I always got into recovery by rebooting with ROM Manager, so I haven't really had to use the power-on/ vol up method (thus it may never have worked).
I can get into download mode. So I'm thinking - assuming - that the first thing I should try is to Odin CWM. But I'm admittedly confused, because all of the posts that relate to installing CWM seem to be in the context of the rooting process, and assume you have the ability to place certain files in rooted directories (like loki), which I obviously can't b/c I can't boot.
1) Is re-flashing CWM the right approach ? If so, is there a .TAR file somewhere with just CWM? I can't find an Odin-flashable .tar. EDIT: I found one, but it's designated for i9505. Same thing?
2) If that's not the right approach (or I'm just an idiot and don't know how to get into a working recovery), please advise
Thanks!
Turn the phone off.
Hold volume up and press the power button until it vibrates.
When it vibrates let go of the power and stay holding volume up until you see the recovery splash.
I've found that sometimes continuing to hold the power button will cancel the call for recovery boot. Not sure why.
You can always Odin if that doesn't work.
And I don't know of an Odin package for vzw recovery.

EDIT: Cr*p. Not out of the woods yet. Now, when choosing 'Install from SD Card' I'm getting 'E: Can't mount /sdcard/'
I'll post this issue in a separate Q.
Got the phone with rebooting problem: it got the rebooting after updated. The device restarted during Android app optimization stage so I just unblock with the AT&T stock file (pda-odin-att-stock.tar) after that the phone can boot up fine the problem still. It works but continuing reboot every 2 minutes. I tried to clear the cache, test redbend fota... but nothing works
Anyone has idea?

First of all sorry about my English. I wish I can do better.
I got the phone with the rebooting and base on the owner of the phone he said it started rebooting after an update.
Not sure what was of update to but the phone I got always rebooting during Android app optimization stage ( when it updating about 90 files or so) but it got reboot when updating to the file of 57th (So it was not actually working)
I watched and followed the youtube (how to unblock/unbrick galaxy i717) which it used the pda-odin-att-stock.tar file with the ODIN3 V1.85 (I guess that original ROM of AT&T (android version 2.3)
After successful unblock/unbrick the phone the phone actual worked but the problem still. It works but only 2 minutes and the phone reboots.
2/ test redbend fota is one the options you can choose after hard booting the phone using both up - down keys and power key (other options are to clear the cache, or wipe the data..)
That actually happened to me while testing out Bean Stalk(which btw AWESOME ROM). It would do a Random Reboot and continuously do that every 2 minutes or so. The way I fixed it was by doing the following steps:
1) Power off your phone. If unable to power off, remove and reinsert the battery.
2 )Press and hold between both Volume keys and the Power key at the same time until the phone vibrates, then release ONLY the Power key.
3)Continue holding the Volume keys until Samsung appears on the screen. Then release both volume keys.
The recovery menu will display.
4) Press Volume down to move to option 3, Wipe data/factory reset, and then press the Home key to accept.
5) Use Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate in the menu and select Yes- Delete all user data.
6)Navigate to highlight OK and press the Home key to select.
7) Select Reboot system now.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING INSIDE YOUR SD CARD AS WELL! SO DO A BACKUP BEFORE ERASING EVERYTHING!

Could it be a battery issue? I mean if its not software, it might be hardware. Please check if the battery is fine? If you could elaborate the steps you took or the update process you followed, that would be great.
Don't worry we will definitely figure this out, i know how sad it can be when you are without your phone.

No. Surely it is not about the battery. Battery is full and hold the charge pretty well. As I mentioned I was re-installed the original ROM of the phone and there was nothing much to say about this procedure. After reinstalled the original rom the phone works but the problems is still same (rebooting after 2 minutes), before the the phone didn't work and just was in the updating stage but I guess the time of the updating file was also about 2 minutes.
I believe this is about the software than the hardware issue. I am thinking that I may want to install the newest ROM to see it will work or not but I am in the middle of some works right now and have no time for it. So I am just wait to see if there is anyone had similar issue and follow their instruction. Thank you you all.
I am sure you either have hardware issue or in most circumstances it is a user issue.
Is there any possibility you have not read everything or something you are not understanding?
Those of us responding do so because our methods are tried and true. Nobody else is having this issue.
I just ask is it possible?
Have you confidently tried all suggestions with no shortcuts? Even the smallest deviation can lead to the biggest problems

Here is a suggestion:
Please go to stock rom. After Odin restarts the phone...do not touch. Let the phone sit there for a little bit. Then if it restarts u might need to format your internal sd card after formatting system, data, cache and then install rom.
I had to flash it

factory reset did not help me with this...I ended up having to flash CM 10.1. Its the most stable custom I have used on this phone yet....
Hi guys.
I seriously need help right now.
My friend bought an s2 i9100 in cheep which was stuck on bootloop and he thought it could be repaired.
so we don't know what caused the problem.
But i was surprised that few repair shops weren't able to fix it.
let me explain the problem:-
when we hold power button or plug in a charger it show the logo, goes into recovery and reboots repeating it in loop.
so whenever i charge it goes into this loop.
we can use volume up & down key in those 2-3 seconds in recovery but not the power key.
we can access download mode and it doesn't reboots automatically but going into recovery mode manually also start this loop.
it's like we are only going in recovery mode again & again.
i installed this file "I9100XWLPW_I9100ODDLPC_I9100DDLPB_HOME.tar.md5" through odin and also used the pit file "I9100_STOCK-System_2GB-Data_512MB-Preload.pit" but nothing changed.
i don't know what to do now.
i cant find any gingerbread rom to test.
i don't know how it can be fixed,
so please help me.
Update
After doing a lot of things I finally managed to boot into system but the problem is not solved.
I flashed i9100XXLSJ which had modem and CSC files other than the PDA only.
The device actually booted in system (just the samsung logo) but it was a bootloop.
This time I kept holding power button by which the bootloop stopped and it successfuly booted but power button is not working inside the system so I can't reboot, power off or even switch on the screen.
By holding down up vol + home + power for a considerable long time I can boot into recovery. But again the power button is not working so I can't select any option.
I flashed a cwm touch recovery which is working.
So can anyone tell me what is the problem here and what can I do to actually fix it.
If you have problems with flashing stock ROM, consider flashing a custom ROM, like Cyanogenmod.

The problem is not about flashing it's about the bootloop & tell me can I flash cyanogenmod with Odin?
@kuro2052
Try flashing the 4.1.2 JellyBean leak ROM via ODIN linked in this thread (scroll down to you see "Another option for i9100"):
[GUIDE][Troubleshoot a failed Odin flash]
This will factory reset the device which may hopefully resolve your problems.

Actually the ROM you are talking about is the ROM which I flashed which is mentioned in my second post " update".
PDA = CODE_I9100XXLSJ.tar
PHONE = MODEM_I9100XXLS6.tar
CSC = CSC_HOME_OXX_I9100OXXLS1.tar.
That's how I got this far, previously it was impossible to boot into system.

In CWM touch recovery, you can swipe (or touch) to confirm the option.
Try factory reset. Reboot.
If that doesn't help, try wiping system, cache and data.
Let me know how that goes

Wiping data/factory reset and cache doesn't solve the problem.
There is format option in 'mounts and storage' so I formated system, data, cache & also emmc. But the bootloop is not gone. The only thing that is gone is the ROM because of those formats. I have yet to to install the ROM again.
maybe is a faulty power button... Do u have to push it down a little harder than normal?

It might be the problem of power button. Sometimes it boots as soon as I put the battery. It always boot when I plug in charger. Sometimes it boots after I press and hold the power key for maybe 15 second & sometimes it doesn't boot when holding power key & I have leave hold again to boot it. And important thing is when it boots, I have to hold the power key until the key lights up to stop it from bootloop but then the power is Jo longer functional in system. Same goes for recovery. But this is the only till nowROM which actually boots into system. Other ROMs were booting into recovery automatically.
I wanted to test cyanogenmod but I am not able to install twrp. I followed the steps here using HeimdallSuite https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys2i9100.html
I had no problem in the steps but the recovery is not actually replaced when I boot into it.
The recovery that I have currently is not able to flash isorec_twrp or any cyanogenmod directly. It always shows error code 7.
I am going to replace the power button with my friend's s2 (other friend who have an s2 laying around) only to see it works.
Anyways tell me how to install twrp successfuly.
The actual power button needs to soldered, I thought It would be a connector, so I am not going to do that. But as far as I can tell, the plastic button isn't the problem.

When I reboot into recovery, I am given the same choice on my US998. I choose factory reset, then I choose factory reset again. After all that, I get a screen that shows the "unlocked device" message for a moment and then finally TWRP.
I have had a situation where TWRP was NOT installed and when I did this my phone was completely erased...
Since then I have installed Quick Reboot Pro (free!) from the Google Play store. If your phone is rooted it gives you an option to boot into recovery. It goes straight to recovery and doesn't need any of the other (risky in my opinion) steps

worst case you could always use fastboot...
if your phone has twrp recovery, then it won't reset the phone. if you are running stock it will.
Agree with chazz though, assuming you have root and a bootable rom - reboot recovery is the best option
I never did really figure out why the lg phones can't boot directly into recovery using the buttons
If you install a terminal app, you can also get into recovery that way - "su" and then "reboot recovery".
I posted this on yt
I just realized magisk has the option to reboot to recovery. I've only used super su in the past.
well of course we have tons of apps, and recovery choice in power menu. but the boot shortcuts is the concern. those really suck.. can't even memorize them. need to write it down on the back of the phone
+1 here for confusion. I uninstalled Magisk after it strangely stopped working during the night and also could only to fastboot. After googling I also did the button dance to reset and yes then yes then got to twrp.
Nothing lost but strange way to go on (rooted device)
Actually, as I thought I had reset everything I updated to 21a so wasn't an entirely wasted 30 mins or so
