i've had the phone for about 7 days and everything was fine until tonight when i tried to use my phone. the phone won't power on anymore.
i plugged it in for a couple of hours and it still didn't turn on. the battery wasn't low when it died. i also tried holding the volume down button then powering on. I even tried plugging it into the usb. i don't know what else to do.:crying:
is it rooted or unlocked? if so which freegee is it unlocked with? you could always join the irc channel for some help. it may be faster through that

Return it.

My brother actually has a completely stock one and is complaining if the same problem to me. I just told him to return it for a new one. Mine is rooted + unlocked and not suffering from any problems. Possibly a hardware problem or overheating?
My friend just had the same issue this morning,
the phone was very hot and wouldn't turn on.
we tried pressing pwr+voldown and nothing happened. then tried pwr+volup and it then showed the LG log but as soon as we let go of any of the button the logo disappears and nothing else happens.
charging also didn't help
*his phone is un-rooted. So i told him to contact Rogers wireless.

Sounds like a soft brick. Happened to me a few times. Tell him not to worry. LGNPST would fix this.
Edit: didn't see that it was unrooted. Yeah I think you told him the right thing. That shouldn't happen if he hasn't done anything to his phone.
I have had this happen several times.
If you press (or hold) the power button, do you see a cheap white "battery charging" animation?
I can't say exactly what, or why, it works, but keep at it. I think the magic trick is to hold the power until the LG logo has appeared and the boot animation is about to (or has) started.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but I was panic stricken every time. If this is happening to you, then you understand what I mean.
I hope this helps someone. This phone seems to be full of issues... I'm just hoping the software it's the cause, and not the hardware.

Same problem for me, phones stops responding unexpectedly, could be that it's power-off by itself but in order to power-on it I need to press power button for a long time ~30 sec. I was thinking that it's because of SnowJB custom Rom but it seems not, the strange thing that it starts only few days ago and appeas almost every day. May be it's needed to format internal or external SD card to fix it?

My LGE971 doesn't turn on
Hello there
My Optimus g E971 doesn't turn on.. it was shut down with low battery ..i tried to put back on charger but it's not charging.
I tried to use different charger , different cable but nothing worked.
I tried pressing volume up/down and power button keys simultaneously but still i got nothing.
There is no lg logo or no back light coming on the screen.
I am confused ..
Plz help guys..
That sounds like you need new battery

Today i decided to try out the nocturnal rom, but before that i had to make a backup. at the the time the phone was what i would a call luke warm so i paid no mind to it. so a few minutes later i look back at the phone and notice that the screen turned off annd the phone was now averagely hot
so i let it cool down for a bit (i thought that the phone must have shut itself off in order to make sure the internals wouldn't be damaged), then when i try to turn it on the lg logo does show up but never gets to the base roms nexus boot animation, now i'm thinking that TWRP must have drained my battery because when i usually make a backup my battery can go from 94% to 50% in a span of 7 minutes (only during backup). So i leave it to charge for 30 minutes 1 hour and then 5 hours but each time i check it still won't turn on correctly.
Now i have had this happen to me before, when i had the atrix 4g this happened and i had to buy a battery only charger to even get it to work again
but as we all know that won't work for the optimus g because you cannot take out the battery.
so i have to ask, what should i do? is there any way to fix this?
Side note: can't get into recovery (seems to shut off before it loads up, its like an infinite loop of dying and turning on again) the power button still glows while its connected giving the appearance of charging but it still never boots up all the way ( the most i can get it to is the part of recovery before going into TWRP. you know holding vol+ and seeing fastboot mode)
There is thread here someone made of disassembly. You can do a battery pull pretty easily. Never know might help.
Have you tried download mode at all BTW?
Sounds more like something was deleted then a batter problem to me. If download mode works you could try lgnpst back to stock.
The information in THIS thread might be able to help.
I can't vouch for it because I haven't experienced these problems, but the OP there seemed to get his problem fixed.
GL.
Although, looking things over, sounds like you have a different issue.
So you can get to the bootloader?
from the bootloader have you tried hitting the volume down key twice then hitting power?
That should reboot you into recovery, where you can restore something or flash stock.
Edit. Quote from FreeGee post.
To enter bootloader, hold volume UP and power.
Upon entering the bootloader, you will notice that there is no 'menu' to enter fastboot or recovery. Unfortunately, since the stars didn't align properly, we were unable to tell the new bootloader where to load the images that contain the menu from.
In light of that, you'll have to navigate the menu blind. Use the volume keys to change selection, and the power key to select.
The choices are (in order of pressing volume down):
Start - boot the phone normally [already selected]
Restart Bootloader - reboot into the bootloader
Recovery Mode - enter recovery (CWM)
Power Off - powers the phone off
So, to get to Recovery, you would press volume down twice then power.

when i try to get into TWRP it doesnt start up, same as when it trys to turn on, it seems to die before it boots fully or so to say the screen
goes from a backlit black to just black and then it doesn't come on again. (looking at thread and nothing has worked yet i'm now trying last advice in thread since my phone won't even turn on unless its connected to the charger)
also i have no idea what download mode is but since nothing seems to be working i will assume that does not work either
Edit: actually maybe i can lgnpst. all i have to do is be able to get into the bootloader right? going to try in the afternoon.

well the lgnpst did work but the battery still won't charge, so if i can't get a replacement i'll try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039707 and see if i can charge it.
now a different question...
does anyone know if i can exchange the phone at an att store if i bought it from amazon or would i have to go through amazon?
and exactly how does that work?

Amazon is actually VERY easy to deal with, and a HELL of a lot easier than AT&T. They'll ship you out a replacement, you send the old one back once you receive the new one. Done. You MAY have to send the old one first, but if you let them put a hold on a credit card, I believe they'll definitely ship first.
You may be able to fix this by holding down both the volume down and power buttons for at least 45 seconds after you plug in the phone.
so
STEP 1: PLUG IN PHONE
STEP 2: PRESS AND HOLD THE VOLUME DOWN AND POWER KEYS TOGETHER FOR AT LEAST 45 SECONDS
STEP 3: LEAVE PLUGGED IN FOR TEN MINUTES
STEP 4; BOOT INTO RECOVERY MODE, WIPE BATTERY STATS, WIPE CACHE, AND WIPE DALVIK, THEN REBOOT TO SYSTEM FROM WITHIN RECOVERY.
LAST PART IS TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.
I've gone the three of these for various reasons and some times lgnpst pretends to work and you need to do it again. And some times you need to wipe data boot back into download and do it again. This phone is retarded.
Flashing going fine, but just have a bit of an annoying problem. To boot into ODIN or Recovery, I have to keep trying and trying before it sticks and finally gets into what I want.
Right now I'm trying to get into recovery. Phone is off, I hold VolUp and the Power button. The phone buzzes and starts to turn on. However, sometimes it just shuts right back down. Other times, the Samsung logo appears with "loading recovery" in the top left, I release the buttons only to have it shut down again. Very rarely, I can get into Recovery or ODIN.
Anyone know why this or how to solve this?
Thanks!

That sounds odd... especially since at that point the phone is not booted so it's down at the hardware level. Maybe defective?

not sure, but got a ROM loaded up so i can just reboot into recovery. problem solved!
I had this same problem...I couldn't really figure out what was wrong but I too just use the boot to recovery option in the 4-way reboot menu. It'd be kinda nice to figure out what was wrong, though.
just found another issue. after my battery dies, i need to let it charge for 10-15 minutes before i can power it on.
my previous phone seemed to have a tiny bit "of reserve" to let you boot up and at least be functional while you were charging.
is this just a HW limitation on the S4 or is something up?

Usually you can wait a few minutes and charge it. That's how it was on the S3. I haven't let me phone die completely yet because the battery life is so good it lasts all day o when I go to bed it charges on my bedside and doubles as my wake up alarm as well as my medication alarms.

Sounds good. I just picked up one of those "lipstick" portable chargers as well, so will probably keep that on me at all times.
So, ever since i updated to a 4.4 rom ive been having some boot loop issues. In the past i just had to plug the phone in and itd boot right up. But today it seems to have gotten into a pickle.
About every 7 or so seconds it reboots itself back to the white HTC splash screen. I can get into fastboot, but after a few seconds it reboots again, and i cant get into recovery at all because its rebooting so fast.
Any ideas on how to fix it, and any ideas on how to prevent it from happening in the future

Is it possible without those few seconds to some how get it to reset.. If not there really isn't anything you can do. You'll half to take your phone for a replacement.
Only other thing your can try is to fastboot a RUU

Thanks, I didn't realize that the bootloader was rebooting as well. Sounds like he's got hardware issues.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me as well. You have a warranty? Otherwise you could try taking it apart and see if the battery has a bad connection or something. I have a feeling it's the soc or something like that though. I feel like the fact that it's happening since you updated to 4.4 is probably a coincidence.

So, i feel that it may be my power button going bad in some way. Because before it goes into the bootloop the 3 hardware buttons flash, as if the power button is being held down, and ive found that to get out of the bootloop i can just 'pump' the power button

Sorry misunderstood
Do you think, maybe, the power button is bad. I've seen a few reports of this.
Sounds to me like it's stuck, pressed. That would cause the repeated reboots, lights flashing, etc.
Edit-- I see you already suspect this is the problem. Never mind...
Well, i flashed back to a 4.3 sense rom yesterday and havent experienced the bootlooping issues since. For reference, before i switched back it got to the point that it was doing it twice an hour
So hopefully it is a software issue and not a hardware issue(knock on wood), id rather not go through the hassle of paying my deductible and getting a new phone
So one day my phone decides to not turn on. No clue what happens, pull it off the charger, then nothing. I try to flash stock hoping that would help but it would go into download mode or even acknowledge the fact that it's plugged in. After repetitively removing and putting back in the battery then plugging it in to get into download mode, I finally do it. I think the very first time I flashed to stock it just turned off halfway through. I kept flashing stock a bunch until it finally worked. I boot up, but it won't complete a full boot. I flashed stock again and here I am. It is perfectly capable of making a full boot, but tapping it with a medium amount of force immediately shuts off the phone. I checked and cleaned the battery contacts- nothing. But that was the only cause I could think of. I've tried other batteries and it's the same. I don't know what to do. I don't know why it's doing this. Any ideas? What can I do to fix it?
maybe a wire or some thing to do with you're power button has came loose.

How would I check for that? I've taken it apart many times. I took it apart recently as well, and everything seemed fine
I would check to make sure everything is plugged in securely and if possible adb logcat while tapping the screen to see what the out put of the log. it may take a while to pin point the problem but honestly I don't remember how I fixed that issue its been so long I forgot.
