Not enough details for anyone to help yet.
Are you using it with ATT or is it unlocked and you are using another carrier and/or in another country?
Are there issues with signal strength with other phones on that network in your area?
For 3G/4G, have you checked the network settings to make sure it's not set to GSM only?
If it is set for HSPA/LTE, do you have the correct APNs?
Have you modified the software and/or changed the modem?
Has the phone ever been dropped, opened/worked on, and/or had liquid damage?
What update are you on?

The phone supports Jordan's network frequency of 2100, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is locked out of doing so without changing something in the Hidden Menu. I don't have a way to confirm that, but it's something they do with many of their phones. If you don't even have the option to switch to different network types, then that's why - probably only ATT's main network frequencies are enabled by default.

Thank you again, I have another phone of the same type and works great, I think that the problem is not in the Software I think it's Hardware

This may be a total noob question, but that's because I am indeed a noob when it comes to this. A bit of history about my Optimus One: I got it on the internets and I believe it is for Portugal's Vodafone, as suggested by the default APN. This thing runs the original Android 2.2 and I did not bother to root it.
Recently I got the T-mobile's six months of free data promo (I'm in Boulder, CO) and all I get is a whopping 120 kbps downstream. All settings seem to be according to T-mobile's "official" info. Tech support told me that everything is peachy on their end, but my phone is "not supported" and I need to get a "supported" one from T-mobile.
Is this the case, or is it merely a matter of installing a ROM/app that unlocks the proper band for data? I am not really afraid to play with this phone, because in the very worst case I could actually get one from T-mobile. Also, because I have no contract, I could move to another provider, so there's some freedom. Thoughts?

3G enabled on the phone? I don't see anything beyond "enable data" and when it's enabled, there's an "E" next to the sign at the top of the screen.
Yeah, 3G does cover this area and the t-mobile rep claims the setup on their end is right.

Well, E is EDGE (which is just a bit faster GPRS), no wonder it is slow. You need H (as in HSDPA). If there's no way to enable 3G on Froyo (strongly suspect you just need to look harder), then upgrade the ROM!

Well, I see nothing about 3G under mobile network settings... network mode 'GSM/WCDMA auto', tried with and without data roaming enabled, APN set up as the t-mobile website suggests... Am I looking in the wrong place?
Also, could this be related? Which I guess could effectively mean the tech support was right...

1/ HSDPA definitely worked for me with Froyo. (No, I will not flash such junk again to verify, being on ICS now)
2/ There has been a GB update available for over a year. Why do not you upgrade?
3/ Normal european P500 specs are
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA: 900/2100 MHz
Sorry, no idea what T-Mobile uses somewhere in CO. US T-Mobile has been selling this very same phone branded as LG Optimus T.

You dont need to flash any ROM if only thing you want is high speed internet..
First call the customer care and ask whether its a 3G pack that you got or normal
GPRS/EDGE. If its EDGE then its the maximum speed you going to get..
if its a 3G pack.. go to settings and select ONLY WCDMA and ask them to send you
3G settings too. Well i Activated 3G and got APN settings automatically.
Do ask customer care if your area has 3G coverage!!
T-Mobile does not support the European 3G bands in your area. In certain metropolitan areas you will get a 2100MHZ signal on T-Mobile, but most of the time you will be getting incompatible frequencies hence the need to use EDGE (2G aka the E which is much slower than 3G).

Thanks guys.
I think several responses are due to the fact that I did not make my location clear: I am in the US and the phone was originally for a European provider. I did confirm with the customer service that I am supposed to have a 3G/4G connection.

I'll have a chance to test it in Chicago next week.
I suppose the frequency incompatibility is at the hardware level and changing the ROM wouldn't help. Can you confirm this? I am ready to flash cyanogenmod (or whatever you guys can suggest), but if this is a hardware issue, there's no point, is there?

Yes, you can't just change frequencies by just flashing another ROM. It is hardware related
I have a International Galaxy S3 I9300 bought in India and i have come to US and have took a TMobile connection. Now the issue is that , im not getting 3g(h,h+) speeds all the time. I have set my device in Auto(GSM/WCDMA) . I have another guy under same roof using same Tmobile conn (Nexus 4) and he is getting 3g speeds and im not. Its showing as Edge('E') in my phone. I can confirm that the 3G is working at some places near my apartment so its not an activation issue or something. Does it has to do anything with the ROM/kerner . I have been using the Foxhound/Persus combo. Should i change the modem settings?
Try setting the Network Mode setting to WCDMA only (instead of auto). I am on AT&T, but was having same problem in certain areas and this fixed it.

Yes, i tried this, but the network goes blank. I'm sure im covered under a 3G area as the other guy is getting awesome speeds under the same roof. Was it because the other guy got his mobile in US(Nexus 4) and i got the international version that it could not read certain spectrum? Really confused.
Did you compare APN settings with other phone? Somewhere here there are probably APN settings that are optimized for T-Mobile. Or may find them on Google.
My gt-i9300 does the same

If any one knows why I would like to know as well.
First time posting on here so please don't tear me a new ass if I'm doing something wrong lol.
I just got a Galaxy Note I (SGH-I717) on AT&T.
Initially I was having problems with reception and 4G and not getting LTE at all. I finally got LTE working my setting up the PTA APN and by dialing *#2263# and selecting a different preferred band (I chose "LTE ALL" in the LTE sub-menu and saved it). I put the SIM back in, powered the phone back up and LTE was working. However my signal bars haven't gone past one bar while on LTE. I get data, and can even send and receive MMS/SMS, but cannot send/receive calls.
Someone please tell me if I did something wrong or am leaving out any vital info.

Perhaps the radio should be updated. The latest official ATT radio is UCMD3.
Check if you have it under settings/about/phone status/baseband. It works on all builds but is the newest radio which improves signal sometimes.

I'm pretty positive that my APN settings are correct (I'll post them in a minute), I think it is probably the band preference I selected in the *#2263# menu. I do know for a fact that the SGH-I717 runs on the lowest LTE band.

Those appear to be as follows in the link I posted. The only difference i saw was BEARER: LTE (default is unspecified) play with this one.. that was different in the post.
Other then that, I know ATT and Tmobile only use LTE Band 4 in the USA anyways.
So LTE ALL under the service menu wouldnt help. Was your coverage always that bad?
Please someone with ATT help this poor soul out. I'm at wits end. Usually this would be something to bug your service provider about. Myabe they can refresh something on your account, or give you a newer SIM card at your local store.

Yes, unfortunately service has always been this bad. I have called AT&T several times/been to the AT&T store and talked to a representative and they have done the following:
- Checked/rechecked my IMEI number (it always matches)
- Checked and rechecked my SIM number (before AND after I received a new SIM card
- Unregistered/Re-registered my phone with the towers
- Called a tech out to the tower to make sure nothing is going on the them (I know its not, my buddies all have LTE running fine on their devices)
Thank you so much, scariola. You've been a helped all you can.
RESOLVED
I believe I have fixed the problem.
I dialed *#2263# to get to the Band Selection screen. I already had selected "LTE ALL" under the LTE Preference menu. I unselected it, chose Back and then End (both under the softkey menu). I then re-dialed *#2263# to get back into the Band Selection menu except this time I selected "Automatic" and chose End in the softkey menu. Re-inserted SIM, and rebooted.
No I get signal 3-5 bars, 4G and 4G LTE where strong signal is available.
I thought LTE was only data and could not be used for calls.

Right. The data is the 3g/4g connection and the symbol next to the bars is the data speed. The bars is the strength of the gsm/phone signal.
It actually sounds like the OP was involved in a tower maintenance scenario and probably didn't matter what he did.
You can do the same settings changing from the mobile data settings menu.
You can't do the same settings from the mobile data settings menu. There you can only mess with data bands. You can turn LTE off or on on my Canadian ROM but you can't use it as the only band. And I didn't think you could even change this on ATT ROMs/radios at all. I believe he used LTE as the one and only bands for phone and data which caused his issue. I have achieved this same result by messing with those band setting found by *#2263#.
However the ability to send/receive texts but no calls does not make sense. That could have been tower issues since they both use the same phone band.

Er, what?
Is that a JB thing because I know it wasn't present on the ATT ICS ROM. Also where is the LTE setting??
The default is "fastest available". If you choose the high speed setting, it will connect to whatever is best.
I assumed JB stock because the OP said he just got the phone.

It's on the canadian version of JB in the settings/mobile network. Missing from att JB though.
You can however force LTE only through the service menu. Att and tmobile use band 4. Not sure about anyone else.
You must dial *#2263# into dialer and select LTE and choose the band your provider supports. That will force LTE only. Dial the same thing into dialer and select automatic* to go back to jumping through LTE/WCDMA/GSM.
I understand it is on the Canadian version as I am using it. The Canadian version also includes LTE. I know how this all works. I have a Rogers note. But my question was to ranger on where he pulled that screenshot from. I always had an LTE option both on ICS and JB. And it was my understanding that ATT left this feature out on all versions and their modem was locked.
Sent from my SGH-I717R using xda premium
You can't force LTE if its not available. Its best to leave it at auto and let the modem do Its job of connecting to the best signal.

It may have been, but soon after I *thought* I had fixed the problem, the same issue restarted. I believe it was an issue with the phone hardware itself, maybe the antenna. I don't know. I sold the phone and got an S3.

Not sure what they meant by that, there's no AT&T specific radio. You may want to wipe the phone clean and start over on it.

Hello,
I am running latest LineageOS. I can't seem to get more than about 50mbit on 4G (with ookla speedtest), with same SIM card, on an iPhone7 I get about 150mbit consistently at same location. I am not sure if this is related to 4G+/LTE-A not functioning. I see only LTE text on the top bar.
In another note, a friend of mine is running original OS and he says he gets 50mbit on wifi with max2, with his iPhone7 on same wifi accesspoint he gets 80-90mbit. (he couldnt test 4G because of bad signal quality in his location),
So, first of all, how can I tell if my phone is using 4G+/LTE-A or not? Do you get better 4G speeds?
How can I test where is the bottleneck exactly? Any hints?
Update:
I now made more tests. Cheap Chinese tablet with mtk6797 chip does about 100mbit in the same location.
At home I tried 5g WiFi and when phone said 433mbps, the download speed from samba server was about 48mbit (server is connected to wifi ap directly with gigabit Ethernet)
Thanks!
Noop, I am on T-Mobile, 100m+ on band 4 all the time
@cgigate which max2 model you have? which OS are you using? and which modern/baseband version?
My provider use band 3 but I don't think it is the issue. Because I get similar result with WiFi which is very strange. Also, do you see LTE+ or something different than LTE as connection icon?
@cgigate I think you must be sitting next to antenna all the time. I managed to get 80mbit when base station antenna was 50m away from me and I was very close. My provider use B3 and B7 which should be supported with any version of max2....

I use the same app on lineageos and it needs root.
But I am not sure still why my max2 is performing so bad.
Anyway, I downgraded my service connection speed to 21mbit now and have no more speed problems I think there is some sort of problem in max2 which is causing this.
