Another good find from our friends in the international forum.

This isn't really the Amoled effect this just adjusts the tint and contrast of the device. AMOLED is super saturated colors this is not

I just labeled it as the OG post was.

I was using just the normal Accessibilty adjusment for this, but the specific edits mentioned in the thread look great!

It's no big deal, i see barely the difference, the only thing i like about it is that now Google Music is supported in my country. i can upload 20000 songs and listen to them everywhere.
Kinda the same, actually i like the older better

+1 and it reminds me of the first market

I think the older one looks much better
It looks less depressing. I mean that in a very literal sense. Darker colors are drab and make use of a tablet seem less fun and more of a chore. So to add color makes the device pop out more

Dark screens save power on amoled devices. I prefer it bright and warm, my only oled display is a monochrome one on the car hifi.

Why is the screen so dim?

I was comparing this phone to my galaxy s3. The s3 is so much brighter. I know there are many threads about different screen issues but none that talked about the brightness. Do I possibly have a defective one? Is there a tweak for this? Has anyone else experience this and was able to fix it by installing a custom Rom?

They both have different types of screens. The GS3 has an amoled display. The HTC one has an SLCD3 display. Different properties of displaying color and brightness. BTW when it is dim, do you have it set at auto brightness or none at all?

It's not on auto. Power save is off along with everything else. So it's on maximum brightness. So basically amoled is the way to go.

You came to the wrong conclusion
All the reviews with benchmarks on screen brightness all show the One to be much much brighter than the S3 and S4. My guess us your One is defective, A quick trip to an ATT or T-Mobile store will confirm that.

[Q] Sensors

Are there any :good: apps out there that take full advantage of all the sensors that the S4 has to offer? I have checked a few and they seem like spoofs.

I found one called weather signal that uses the majority of the sensors (temp, light, humidity, bero pressure, and even Mag, flux from the compass) It does the job, I particularly like the logging feature. It allows you to set how often it reads from the sensor and then stores that. It also has some social features but I've never used them.
Not affiliated with the app in any way, by the way. Just a happy customer.

This one uses some but gives live readings from the rest.

There is an app in the Play Store called "Androsensor" that utilizes all of the phone's sensors including ambient temperature and humidity.

I've been using this Free app since I received my s4. Simple and had nice widgets.

Stock gallery photo editing compresses file

Love the phone but I tweaked a photo the phone compressed the file down to 245kb from 3mb. Does anybody know how I can keep original resolution without using a 3rd party app to do minor photo edits??
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
What tweaking did you do? I set a wallpaper from the home screen settings menu and it for sure did not compress it. Did you by any chance crop it with a certain resolution set?

It does not compress when setting a wallpaper. All I did was straighten a sunset very slightly. Once edit is complete it will save a copy of the edited photo in the gallery. The edited copy went from 3mb to 247kb.
It does this with any edit. I tried several. Please try to edit a photo in gallery with the stock edit tools by clicking the pencil at the top and see.

You are right, it's horrible...

I feel like I must be missing a save setting or something. It doesn't make any sense they would do that on purpose considering the camera is so good.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Even the stock Google gallery app does this to some degree (though that sounds far worse). I've always used snapseed for my editing for that reason. Not sure if even that would preserve the original quality though given the 13MP on the g2.
There has to be a way to turn this off somehow
It must indeed be Android specific
Sent from my LG-F320L using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes it sucks, I don't really edit on my phone but its nice to be able to without that happening but I don't see a setting anywhere.
I'm afraid that with epic quality we just need to dump them like a real camera.

Lol last night I just used nfc to beam a pic to my fiancee gs4, edited it, then beamed it back to my g2. Pathetic but it worked.

Really no app in market that you can do edits with?

Yes but I haven't looked for one yet. Its just disappointing that I would have to use one. It's like buying a $600 watch that keeps perfect time but no dial to set it.

S4 vs note 2 brightness

Hello I just was wondering I just switched from the noteb2 to the s4 and for some reason it seems the note 2 screen was brighter than the a4 and easier to see in sunny conditions. Is it true? If so can I fix it somehow? I would of thought the newer phone to be brighter.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
The s4 is a lot
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I thought the disply was the same not counting the size difference. Did youvtry adjusting the brightness in settings?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The s4 is a lot brighter to me what are your display settings? I did the same switch.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Auto adjust screen tone is checked and auto brightness. But even at 50% brightness it seems darker than note 2. Noteb2 I left on auto and in sunny spots could see fine. Hmm
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Also all power saving enabled
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
To me the S4's screen gets much brighter than what the Note 2 could do... but more importantly it's a lot CLEARER which counts a lot more for my eyes. If your concern was brightness than you should have bought an HTC One or G2 honestly (anything with an LCD Display).
What are your settings? Do u have power saving mode enabled? Does kernel or ROM make a difference? I just like to use auto

Not sure if rom makes a difference, I've only been on Stock rooted ME7 so far. I use auto with adjust screen on and no power savings. If you want it to seem brighter you should turn off power savings and adjust screen tone... I actually like the warmer tones it adjusts whites to but I can see how some people would not. You shouldn't really need power saving because the battery on this thing is pretty good, but if you want to save battery the right way just root and use Greenify and you'll be set. I can go a day and a half easy with Greenify. I've also heard that the app Lux is really good for saving power, it basically replaces the auto brightness and gives you tons of more options, but I haven't tried it myself.
