I dont see the need for galaxy s II variants since the phone has quad band 3g support , but with samsung you never know , hopefully they just put out the original version of the sgs II , variants will slow down updates, what do you think? last time it was a mess with the updates
I hope they will release in us. Otherwise the developer support will be small.

You can be almost 100% certain there will be US variants, at least to the point of adding in support for their 3G and 4G networks for which the stock doesn't have. Specifically T-Mobile and Verizon will definitely have to add in their bands seeing as how AT&T is ready from the stock device. Now, whether or not the carriers will have to lessen or get rid of any other spec to fit their setup is the big question here. I am really hoping nothing gets changed besides the addition of the extra bands, but I have a feeling that may be aiming a little high.
US carriers always wants to make "their" phones look different just to confuse the heck out of people, and be able to call it "their own"
so yeah, it's almost guaranteed we'll seem some minor changes here and there.
hopefully nothing ugly like what they did with the first release of Galaxy S... missing FFC, missing flash, missing memory, missing hard button, etc
each carrier had something slightly missing

t mobile and at & t have NOTHING to change to the original model, verizon and sprint are the ones that need changes because they work with cdma devices, but i would like samsung to stick with the galaxy s II name, it's stupid to confuse the users im guessing sprint will get another version with a keyboard

T-Mobile must add in support for their AWS bands.

Looks like the US variants might already have names...
Can't post a link yet due to post count but just do a google search for "pocketnow galaxy variants" and it should be the first result.

Galaxy Attain, Galaxy Function, Galaxy Within
No idea what carrier gets what but it's looking like 3 carriers will carry this (my guess is the standard, AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon).

Nice. I'm slightly more excited now.
Sure, I believe that there will be SGSII variants in the US however, they will be not be released in the next few months because of the delay for the launch in Europe and Samsung's habit of releasing phones a couple months late in the US. Heck, I don't even know why they do this when our country gave them the most SGS sales out of any country in the world.
There will be at least GSM variant and CDMA variant. But other than that, I wish the carriers won't create fragmentation.
It's very likely the original Galaxy S is Quadband WCDMA supported by hardware. I hear people use 1700 on Captivate and use 850 on Vibrant by mixing modems. GS2 should have at least the same ability.
Just one device for all markets, and ensure our updates

I don't care. I'm still getting the international one. No more needless bull****.

My sentiments exactly!
I couldn't care less if they came out with 10 variants. It's the original or nothing for me. No way in the world am I making the same mistake again.

I think the model numbers will be different.
The international Exynos version has model number GT-I9100.
There is a high chance tthat they release one here in the US and although I won't like the differentiation or the increased length of time for updates, because of the community here I'm sure I would be able to keepy phone updated wwith a great ROM with the newest firmware.

nice news, but... OMG! those are some horrible choices for names how do they even come up with those awful names?
Maybe it's their new slogan "Attain function within..."
I too will go for the international version, not sure if Bell will commit to this one considering the SNAFU they had with the SGS.
I'll be moving to Japan soon and I'll be looking for a new phone when I get there. I'd like to pick up a SGS2 or other dual core beast but I've had a difficult time finding anything on a Japanese release or if it would work in Japan and on which carriers. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? I know Japan uses a WCDMA as well as some other mobile technologies and frequencies but I haven't been able to decipher if a "generic" SGS2 would work if I pre-ordered one and took it over.
Thanks.
You're moving to Japan and so will be using the phone in Japan? In that case, if you want the S II, it is coming out on NTT docomo. The original Galaxy S launched here last year with Froyo.

Correct. Moving, living and using the phone in Japan. Thanks for the info, I've been unable to find anything about it being released over there. Do you know any sites about when DoMoCo will pick it up?
Thanks for the intel!
Subscribe to juggly.cn on the web and @juggly on twitter. The guy does nothing but post about Android 24/7. He often gets info about release dates, leaked pics etc.
He mentioned that docomo would announce their summer lineup in late May. The S II is going to be known as the SC-02C.
http://softbanksucks.blogspot.com/ is also a good place to check for info in English.
My own blog is sporadically updated, just not the place for hot news

I've tried looking around the web, but found no information and I'm sure there are people here with superior Google-fu. Are there plans to release the Jetstream to the rest of the world? At the very least, without AT&T branding?
And a related question; does anyone know if they will have spec options (WiFi Only, no pen, etc...)?

not sure, its possible a different model will come out, this is at&t specific with the 4G LTE frequency so it would not work international on LTE. also it doesn't come with the pen, it is a separate $80 accessory, which until Oct 15 they are giving free with the tablet purchase.

Thanks for the insight! I wonder if there will be pricing adjustments once the pen stops being "Free".
so its not going to be shipped internationally, when is a new model going to be??? i really love the thing
I figured someone with more knowledge on this could set the record straight. The T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S II went on sale today and mine should arrive tomorrow. MY GUESS is that ROMs, modems, and kernels would not be interchangeable between the two devices. So should a new forum be created for the T-Mobile variant? Anyone have some insight?
EDIT: Question answered. Yes... we will need a new forum for the T-Mobile variant.

As to a new forum - no one in this forum would be able to do it, we're just users.
And NOTHING about the T-Mobile GS2 will be interchangeable with the AT&T version. The T-Mobile variant doesn't even deserve a GS2 designation - other than having a sAMOLED screen it's closer in hardware architecture to most HTC devices than any Samsung.

uh...they're almost identical. the tmo version has a sexier backplate and a bigger screen. and snapdragon ftw.
but yeah, i just researched and found all of this out. which in turn answered my question. i originally thought they would be completely identical with the exception of operating frequencies. guess not.

Lol! Are you serious? Or joking? I can't read the e-sarcasm here.
If your not joking then let me explain further. The snapdragon is a completely different soc meaning that development will be completely different for it than the international or att sgs2. Essentially NOTHING is the same.... In the development world... Real world the only similarity is the manufacturer.... And it has an samoled screen... But even that's not the same. Lol

Has anybody heard anything about when the Swarovski or Diesel Bands for the Gear S will be available?

I'm waiting for it as well
I would love to have a nice looking band like the Swarovski! My thinking is... Samsung has popped out so many different smartwatches over the past year or so, that Swarovski may have second thoughts about investing their time/capital on a model that will be "old news" in a couple of months.
