[Q] Mate2 $124.98 at Target (Consumer Cellular) - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

Know this isn't really a deals section - but thought this was a steal on the Mate2 . On clearance 50% off 249.00 . Target Inventory # is 080 02 0412
Have been unable to get a stock rom on this, but need to do more research here. I was able to download and install the stock firmware (B132 ) but after installing it still seems to be the consumer cellular version (has no hotspot) The other versions I tried gave me the error : "oem version list check error"

Well it looks like they are clearing them out. Must be near the end. I wonder if Huawei is done in the United States or if they are going to try something else? Either way, it's a great phone, shame they turned out to be such a crappy company.

I expect to see a fire sale at the gethuawei site in the next month and then it will go away as they withdraw from the North American market. I believe the HAM2 will be their only North American LTE model, unless they make any models for US carriers. In the past, they did make some branded GSM phones for T Mobile. It appears that they didn't think through approaching the American market and they clearly didn't hire any Western consultants, which was a big mistake and ensured their brief foray into the North American market was a failure. There's a total lack of understanding of the consumer mindset in this market as well as language issues. To not understand that their marketing of this phone promised an upgrade to KK means they need to hire different English language experts (maybe from the West). Their reaction to negative consumer comments on the no KK announcement was to withdraw and now the comments on FB, when people still complain, is defensive ("Life goes on.") I suspect they must not handle warranty issues well if they view it as criticism and get offended. This is a good case for a business student to examine as a prime example of how not to enter a foreign market.

I just watched the review Android Authority posted on YouTube on the Mate 7 apparently it has LTE bands for Tmoble and Att here in the US. But 700 dollars. Give me the Nexus 6. Never again Huawei.

I don't believe Huawei has announced any US model for the Ascend Mate 7. The international version supports a lot of LTE bands, including T Mobile and AT&T (in theory) Android Headlines did a video post prior to Android Authority, and a T Mobile sim card worked, but apparently, AT&T didn't. I also don't think Huawei has said they'll be selling this directly within the US. If they said that, they'd have to seek FCC approval. It's easier for them to put a lot of LTE bands in an international version and let end users try to find an international vendor who'll sell them an international version (probably without warranty).

sale
Anyone else hear about this deal cause I called a few Targets and have not found one with the mate 2 on sale?

I see a few people on ebay trying to pimp some of them brand new in the box. $229 a piece. But I've not seen any around here in Richmond VA.

Getting mine next week from newegg for less than $200 after unloading the newegg and net10 cards

I saw that on on EBay as well which makes me believe the deal does exist just wondering how to take advantage of it.

Not trying to discredit op, but it does seem a little unlikely that no one else has found this clearance price. However, having experience with retail myself I will say that different markets will sell or discontinue particular items.
If the sales weren't there, that regional sales team may be dumping inventory in favor of something proven to move.

Still full price in bay area.

It may be in limited markets, but it certainly is real. I thought it was a one-off , but now that they are appearing on ebay in the Target box selling less than list price I would say there are certainly a few stores that have them.

Just stopped by the target on my way home [emoji17] they have it for 250

I will go to target tomorrow, try get a price match to your picture

Got 25% discount
So I went to Target, showed them the clearance picture, and got a 25% discount. I think if you are more persistent, you can get more.
I told them that a friend of mine bought this in another store... of course they did not want to discount at first, but in the end they did.
I will keep an eye on this one - I still want it for $125 ... so I have 30 days to return it ...
Now - does anyone know how to SIM unlock it so I can use it on T-Mobile?
I've searched google, but all results show PAID services ... how do those guys unlock it???

I found this one in sommerville mass... Went to the next closest store and it was full price , so figure it would happen store by store.
Regarding unlocking , i dont know of any free options , i bought a code off ebay for $5 , figured it was cheap enough to not be worth the time finding a free way.

Had the factory unlocked l03 but accidentally ran it over. Sad day it was wished the sprint phone could have taken its place under the wheels of death. Bought a CW for $225 shipped. New and carrier unlocked on eBay.

I got mine in Watertown, MA - asked manager to match the "clearance pic" above and got 25% off.
I am ok paying 5 bucks for eBay unlock, but I REALLY want to know how they do it, so now it's not about the money. Also most other phones are easily unlocked - why aren't Huawei?

where to buy!

so where can get get one that works in the US?
Non works with US 3G yet
ebay or import one, only work on edge until north american version is released and even then it only has ATT 3G bands if that is important to you
T-Mobile USA
Simple question guys. I think the answer is 'yes' but I want to verify this with people w/ more experience.
Does the UK version of the Hero work w/ T-Mobile USA data network?
I'd like to get the Hero but it would be a waste of money if it doesn't work w/ my provider.
Sorry guys...found the answer on another thread
noob mistake
How trustworthy does this seller look to you guys?
http://mobilegadgetsonline.com/HTC/HTC-Hero-Android-White-Smartphone-Unlocked-p6.html
It's cheaper than handtec, which is the best value I've found..
$400?! that's suspicious .. everyone else has it starting from $634
refurbished? it says new ..
the store has zero rating in google shopping
ohhh, now i see why, i'm sure they messed up the currency sign, hero costs 400 british pounds
That's possible.. but everything else on the site is also in dollars and relatively cheap compared to other places.
I guess it is too suspicious though, I'm not going to touch that one.
thinking about buying from mobilegadgetsonline.com
if anyone out there HAS bought from there i would appreciate a quick note about it.
i am thinking of buying from there as they are CHEAP!! CHEAP !! CHEAP!
but as some of you, i am skeptical as well.
they say that they are a new store, with new goods....
trying to obtain a sound customer base.
they also stated that the promo prices (which are fantastic) end on July 31st.
hmmm, what to do, what to do?!?!?!?!?
if its to cheap.....
the alarm bells would be ringing for me
do your homework before you buy.
I would not deal with any company that does not have a land line phone number to call. Not that it makes a difference.
No Whois information either - I know for dot com it not needed, but hay. BEWARE
THATS A SCAM i recently purchased a hero from them and got an email saying ur order can not be prossesed because our credit card processors are down and you must send cash or money order your credit card was not charged
JerryBarcenas, which site did you buy it from so we can know where not to get it.
I'm waiting for the hero to come to the us and will hopefully get my unlocked hero by october/november
that mobilegadgetsonline is a scam however the next cheapest i found was integrontechnologies.com its 599 free shipping and has google checkout ill try them next if not ill just got to expansys i trust them
Thanks for the info, Jerry.
I guess I would recommend everyone to buy from expansys if they wanted to be safe.

UK transformer prime, Bricks and mortar shops availability - UK only

So the prime is released in the UK, and with the hoopla going on with online orders (can be seen in the other uk online orders thread), I thought it would be a good idea to setup a thread to shop bricks and mortar sales.
So where people got there prime, shop and location and if possible stock levels.
Please don't come on and say you got the display model last week as that isnt helping anyone.
what really isn't helping anyone is the creation of another uk thread.
there is a sticky stating no more pre-order type threads.
lets try and keep this place tidy
Sorry zoro but this isn't a pre order thread.... other thread is for online orders and this for people picking it up in a shop. If mods deem the thread inappropriate then fair enough.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
So anyone know of any shops in the uk that have any primes in stock, or is the launch day just a load of nonsense.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I think most of the stock out there is going out to pre-orders at the moment - most of those also seem to be delayed.
Carphone Warehouse seem to be doing the best on those at the moment, some of their stores might be the best to check.

bad form. this isn't a pre-order thread. this is dealing with specific stock in the uk. and considering how tidy the UK ordering has been in relation to how many US threads were started to have only 2 UK threads on stock levels is pretty disciplined, 1 for online, 1 for shops is perfectly fair IMHO.

I rang CPW this morning after their screw up with my online order. I got them to check store stocks. No UK stores are showing stock in store today and she would not give me projected expectations when bricks and mortar stores will get them either.
good thread - subscribed.
Ok guys
anyone wanting to pick up a prime in west Yorkshire
comet at Wakefield have one in stock.
As I have just returned mine for a refund.
If you're quick grab it
No issues at all apart from the poor gps which you all know about as all primes pretty much have this issue.
I have been trying to return since delivery but had to wait til it was officially available
i.e today (12th)
Had to lie about switching it on but I did a factory reset so they couldn't tell, all the plastic film packaging is still on everything as I didn't want to jeopardise a refund if I changed my mind
I returned primarily as I don't like the screen size
I prefer the ipad 4:3 ratio
So go grab it if you want one.

I spoke to a PCW/Currys person this morning and they said that the megastores in Bristol (Cribbs Causeway), Bath, Swindon and Weston Super Mare had one each... Don't know if it's true, but that's what she said. Another poster on the pre-order thread said yesterday that there were none in the South West...so you can take your pick.
I picked up display model from my local PCWorld this morning ... just asked ;-)
Any news if atp is actually available in stores at all? Can't believe this launch fiasco...

Is it really a fiasco? Which option would you prefer - delaying the launch so Asus could build up a bit of a stockpile (a la Apple) or releasing them when stock becomes available? I concede that their provision to online retailers has been far too erratic but the fact that you can't walk into a shop and buy one hardly makes this a fiasco.
It does. It is a fiasco. It's pathetic how people preorder it months in advance and then someone like me just orders one on 11th and gets it in 19 hours, when people who preordered are still waiting. Then another order from JL, them stating that they have stock, and still nothing, they didn't even charge my cc.
While Asus is doing great by releasing as many tablets as they can, retailers are really screwing it up.
So while its not , or only partially Asus fault, still, launch is a fiasco.

It is a fiasco because
- either ASUS have massively underestimated demand and produced 100,000 units for global distribution but then they shouldn't have been making so much hype around the launch.
-or its retailers that are too cautious and only buying from ASUS little shipments and then it's their fault that it is near to impossible to buy it more than a week after "official" launch in UK and possibly month after "unofficial" launch in US.
I tend to lean towards first possibility as it seems that none of retailers here or in US are able to get their hands on larger amounts of the tablet. Its not like I want John Lewis to have 5000 in their ware house but the way things are looking they perhaps have only got 100 (via their supplier which is not directly from ASUS by the way).
So the moment they got 500 orders on Friday they should have spoken to MicroP and in turn to ASUS - can we have 1000 more on Monday morning as we have high demand. And I suspect this is the problem that there's no availability from the manufacturer.

AT&T Galaxy Note won't be available for full retail pricing!! (at first)

I found this out a few days ago but thought it deserved a thread. So I went to my go to at&t Guy at my store near me and when he tried to look up full retail pricing, he found out that the Note will only be available to purchase by adding two years to your contract. They will not be offering it to be purchased out right at first. He said they do this sometimes when they have an exclusive on a phone for awhile. So you won't be able to pick this BEAST up right away without adding two more years to your contract.... oh well I'm still getting it.
Well sorry for any confusion. It appears all the AT&T people I talked to over the phone our idiots and that the store employees were feed the same crap when they tried to look it up for me. Man you would think they would be on the ball. I think they're seriously underestimating this phone like they did in Europe. I hope that doesn't lead to shortages in the states, like some areas had (Norway from what my friend told me). So you can pre order off contract at 649.99. HAPPY SHOPPING FUTURE NOTE OWNERS!!!!
You can always get one of the Bell/Telus/Rogers units that will be hitting the market here in less than two weeks. Same unit (i717) as the AT&T version but without the AT&T bloatware (and possibly without any external carrier branding on at least the Bell version).
I expect you'll see them on Craigslist for $600, shipping to the US isn't that expensive, and unlocking shouldn't be an issue. And places like Negri or Expansys will also be selling them.
Are you guys sure to get an i717 instead a n7000?
That hardware is less for same price, also devs are working on international version.

I was wondering if you could ask your guy a question for me if you get the chance. I live in California and the tax laws here are such that we pay tax on the full retail price of the phone, not the upgrade price -- even if we're purchasing as an upgrade. So . . . if they don't have a retail price yet then are they only going to charge me tax on the upgrade price?

I have an N7000, and I don't think the 717 is "less hardware". Same display (most expensive part) same digitizer, same amount of RAM/ROM, same battery, a very close equivalent processor (really, it is, for anyone not running benchmarks all day long), and a better radio that supports both 42Mbs DC HSPA+ and LTE. Plus local warranty and insurance support.
Depends on your priorities, I would think.
i have n7000 and def keeping it, but to the ATT guys that want the i717 your best bet is not rogers in canada.
it will be either bell or telus, both these companys keep their phones unbranded. no carrier stampings on the phone/battery cover.
also ours comes out a week earlier.

I went through the flame wars when I got my skyrocket. It is a great phone with an S3 processor. I have the international gnote now, but may consider selling my skyrocket for the att version of the gnote (off contract) so I can keep lte which is prevalent in my state.
But yes the threads will devolve unfortunately, even after the forums split. It is much like how every att lte phone forum devolves into a rant about throttling for the lte unlimited plan members and how att is beyond the evil empire...

AT&T sales rep here. Thought I would clear some things up.
This phone WILL be available for purchase without a contract. Just not at first because it is currently not on our shelves. With the preorder, it will only be available as an upgrade w/ a 2 year contract for 299.
On launch day when you are able to buy it in-store, you will have the option to pay the full non-commitment price for the phone.
As for this phone vs the international. They're both incredible devices. Nothing changes that. As we have seen with the Skyrocket, this same hardware has incredible potential. Tons of overclocking headroom while staying stable.
I'm very excited to see it show up in our store.

Where'd you get the ins? I found a few different places but couldn't find any reviews on whether or not they were any good.
Im sure we'll have it available for outright buying at best buy too. Im sure ATTs insurance will have a monster deductible for a replacement, probably $200 like for the skyrocket and vivid. I know it sounds like a best buy plug but out protection is pretty bangin haha but I break a lot of phones so I really see the benefit of no deductible

Ensquared. I could not find any reviews either after a buddy told me about it. He has a claim for a damaged phone and they covered it. Since I bought an International GNote, I wanted to have it covered since I paid $650 for it. The deductible is based on the amount of damage and $75 maximum.
I did a quick search and saw this. Post #6

buying it in ebay from south korea

Hey all ,
I want to buy this watch and I noticed many sells on eBay from south korea.
watch has a very good price and according to the list it should work fine in my country as far as bands.
also asked the seller if I'll get FOTA updates and he said that yeah.
so my question is , can anyone think on other reasons why I shouldn't buy it from there?
sell for example : http://www.ebay.com/itm/321576361962
Thanks for your help
On the side of pessimistic, I'm always very careful about ordering anything from overseas. Mainly cuz what if something goes wrong???
Once i ordered a fairly expensive HD IP Cam from Asia, and when it arrived it was clearly a fake. The worse case I know of, is a co-worker that ordered an Galaxy
S5 from Korea at a great price.
After a few weeks, weird things began happening.
By utilizing a few sites that specialize in spotting fakes, he would've never been able to tell that he got taken and bought a cheap clone. And the kicker of this story, the fine print in the con's listing forced ebay to rule in his favor.
So overall, try to order products from US vendors and be sure to read the description in its entirety.
Sorta like the guy that bought a picture of a gold iPhone for big $$$, cuz he didn't read (or maybe doesn't know how).
Good luck!!!

I think that for hige-end devices such as this it would be very easy to spot a fake product , for example , curved screen is not something that every manufacturer can make.
and as you said , ebay buyer protection plan can always save you.
in addition there's the whole feedback system that if you know how to work with you can figure within 2-5 minutes of investigation if the seller is reliable or not.
my main concerns are about the version of the watch , will all apps work on it etc.

Don't be so sure on the looks alone. Take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/general/gear-s-150-t3001480
First off. This model won't work in the US.
There are a lot of different versions of the GS... Each for a different segment of the world. I would do some 2G/3G/4G frequency research on the model you're buying and the provider you'll be using it with. Also, make sure it's factory unlocked... Trying to get it unlocked from another country would near impossible.

yeah , $150 for a brand new watch is of course a ripoff.
you're right , the south korean watch won't work in north america , but as you can see I'm not from US
I guess I will cancel this order though , since I found other seller from Europe who also promise to cover any customs duties if it gets stopped.
There ya go... Congrats, you'll love this watch!!!

I did buy mine from Korea, and I'm from the UK. The problem is that you got to pay import charges, that will be 50.
it is the original samsung gear s with sim/wifi. the other problem is because its from Korea the navigation is not there on the watch all thou i updated it through samsung kies3 app.

I see , well yeah , I figured that since I have the risk of having to pay import charges I better cancel the order before the seller ship it.
This is what I did.

it's more or less the same price when you calculate it. if you buy it from your country or import it/ the charges will add up like you brought it locally.

wow, so you might as well buy it on ebay for 200/import charges will be about 55...total you pay will be 255....ho yeah paypal take about 9 charge to send the payment overseas, so the new total is£264,still cheaper than £336.
Buy it if you don't mind the trouble and long delivery time.

Where can I find used GS5's that aren't TMo banned?

I've tried to grab two (G500T) now and both refuse to connect to T-Mobile unless I'm in their store. The reps figured it was a SIM issue and didn't bother to look up the IMEI. At home I tried my and my wife's sims from a rooted S3 and a rooted Core Prime and I get the same thing.... they won't attach to T-Mobile even though the other phones do.
So when I used TMo's IMEI tool both report as being overdue on accounts. So how are supposedly "Manufacturer refurbs" coming out with this flag? Is there any way to get these G500T's and know before purchase that the IMEI is clean and that it will just work on Tmo?

Am i missing something here... this Amazon post for the G900T even states that the device is only partially usable on TMo. Isn't that the Tmo variant? I mean the two I receieved booted to 4.4.2 or maybe 4.4.4 with the TMo graphinc and Jingle yet wouldn't grab a TMo tower outside of their store.
Add to that if I turned on WiFi calling I was recognized as the correct number and could send and receive calls/sms just fine.

There has been tons and tons of rebranded att devices people are selling as unlocked g900f and g900t devices as att has locked bootloader and nobody wants them. Could be your problem.
I wouldn't trust amazon nor eBay. Try swappa.com 100% and guaranteed to not be black listed

I'll look at swappa... but would AT&T locked ones root and take TMo kernels/ROMs becasue I was able to do exactly that and as stated, in the TMo store, it linked up instantly with full LTE (WiFi off) but outside of the stores reach it wouldn't connect. And again, the phone's IMEI according to TMo's lookup tool (both of them) had outstanding bills associated with them.
Isn't the Amazon link odd in that it is listed as a T but claims partial TMo functionality?
Or you could just buy straight from T-Mobile! I got two for $200 each. They're also eligible for T-Mobile's interest free credit system and come with a 90 day warranty which they will honour even if rooted.

Currently showing $250... a bit high for this model used IMO.
Worth a bit extra for some peace of mind, imo. As the T-Mobile rep I spoke to pointed out, the CPO devices go through an 80 point check which the new phones don't, at least not by TM. Both ours look brand new, and I'm guessing that both the glass & battery, and probably the outer cover too, were replaced. There's a difference between used & CPO. And I'm guessing $250 is less than you paid for the two you bought that you can't use outside the store??

Actually they were $140 apiece via Woot (Amazon subsidiary) and were listed as AT&T and T-Mobile friendly. One wouldn't charge and the other had the bad IMEI. I'd go as high as $200 I think. I'll keep an eye on Swappa and maybe call a TMo rep to see if they'll come down. I'm in no hurry... just getting ready for our next phones. I can't let Shiny get too far ahead or I'll miss out on all of his great work and their derivatives
As I said, when I bought ours they were $200, they'd previously been $250, so you may get lucky if you keep your eye on T-Mobile. I did their interest-free plan, so it's $8/month each, which seems like a hell of a deal now I've seen how good the phone is. Add a $10 wireless charging coil and you've got a phone that's indistinguishable from a $700 current model.

Those are TMo friendly phones, in that you can put a TMo SIM in them and they will work. However, that's not the same as a 900T. I bought a S5 through Woot back in January, and it was described as a 900T and it was a 900T.

It is/was (http://www.woot.com/offers/samsung-galaxy-s5-unlocked-16gb-sd-23) in fact a 900T. It reported as much. I've laid out pretty specifically what the problem was and got confirmation from TMo. The real problem is the resellers putting these phones out there as able to be used when the IMEI clearly reports as a phone in arrears on it's account.
If I had been willing to pay the account that the pay as you go phone had been bought on, it would have started working. TMo had taht IMEI blacklisted.
Maybe they're generic specs, but they don't list the AWS bands for T-Mobile, which is the usual problem with buying phones that may or may not be T-Mobile devices.
Readily admitting that I don't know what you're talking about but the fact that I connected to TMo with full bars when at the Tmo shop but dropped out as soon as I drove away and the fact that the phone is in Tmo's system seems to me to be a fairly clear indication that is was a proper model.
In any case.. got one off of swappa and watching for another in my price range and in a condition I will accept. Thanks all for the comments and pointers.
It's not an indication that it's a proper model. Speaking very generally, an AT&T phone will work on T-Mobile because they're both GSM/LTE phones. However, the GSM bands they use aren't identical. There's some overlap, but in some areas there are bands used on T-Mobile that AT&T phones can't use. What that means in practice is that in some places the AT&T phones won't get a signal on T-Mobile and may use 3G rather than LTE. AWS is GSM 1700/2100. It's the same reason why my T-Mobile phones work in the UK but the data over there is slow.
So in this case when the phone is reporting that knox hadn't been tripped and the phone info claimed to be a 900T is still may be an AT&T?
I just bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MF64PSK/ on Amazon. Clean IMEI and a 90 day money back guarantee. Looks brand new.

Awesome to hear that real ones are out there... seems hit or miss on Amazon. I have gotten full refunds from W00T and now have two "good" condition phones from swappa and am happy with their conditions and the prices paid.

I have really liked what I've purchased from Swappa too, but this time I went with Amazon. I read your post and was worried...I had to check the IMEI!
