Fastboot mode . Screen is black - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okey so I try to enter fastboot mode on my Z2. I hold the volume up and power button. The led turns blue but my screen is still black. What am I doing wrong here?

Ehm... Wasn't it supposed to be black?
I always mess up fastboot with flash mode. Don't you need to connect USB cable and volume up?
P.s I love doomlords Xperia Reboot App! Wort every penny. You can just reboot into flash mode ^^

Well how am I suppose to flash my zip files 0on the SD card if the screen is completely black ? I am pretty fresh to this .I have root but still on stock rom. Wanted to try the 4.4.4 for my Z2 but i dont have CWM installed and i wanted to install CWM but how do i do that if i cant reboot in fastboot mode

well if you are new, you should read for couple of hours first on the forum.
there are many threats with exact instruction.
or should all write same thing 1000x when someonw new comes to the forum?
but in few words
- fastboot is always black screen (you use adb on pc to put files to the phone in this mode, like change kernel with recovery)
- flashing zip is done in recovery (no black screen there)
- before flashing or fasboot entering always read forums first so you know what you are doing...

Unlock your bootloader after backing up your TA files while you're still on 4.4.2. You will loose your DRM keys by doing this !
Install 4.4.4 through Emma.
Download Doomlord advanced stock kernel v7 .
Unzip and copy boot.IMG into your SDK platform tools folder.
Power off your Z2 and hold volume up while connecting USB to your Z2,this way you will enter fastboot mode.
Open command window in platform tools folder and type :
fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
It will flash kernel and CWM recovery, after this type :
fastboot reboot
Your Z2 will reboot , during purple led hold volume up to enter CWM recovery mode, here you can flash update SuperSu 2.16 .zip to obtain root.
Doomlord advanced stock kernel & CWM you can find here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702001 , Google for SuperSu 2.16 .zip will take you to Chainfire's site.
Good luck,if you're new to this:read well before acting☺

Thanks a lot for the replies. Yes I will read again. I always forget between the times I do this! I have done this many times but with other phone models so its time to fresh up the memory

Hahaha sweet
There is a fastboot and flashmode both have black screen and can only be controlled by a computer and USB cable. There is this awesome "Flashtool" which has a nice GUI for both.
You can flash .ftf and .img files.
If you want to flash a .zip file you need a recovery. You can either flash NUTs dual recovery or Doomlords advanced stock kernel and then boot into recovery.

Vodafone Smart II / Alcatel V860 recovery problem

Hi,
About an week ago I bought the Vodafone Smart II, first thing I did was rooting it, so I can remove the apps Vodafone send with it.
After that I saw there was an update. Without thinking I did the update and after that I had no recovery anymore. Goes straight to "Are you sure you wanna delete all files and reformat?" *Not the real message, but something like that.
After searching here I foud a recovery for my device, but after flashing it, there was a new problem. The touch buttons aren't working anymore in the recovery.
Volume buttons are working well for scrolling through the menu items, but I can't select when with the touch home button.
Anyone knows what to do or try?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my grammar

If it doesn't work, flash the system.img, custpack.img and data.img of an original Stock rom, and after that do the update 2 (it will fix the touch buttons)
To regain the recovery and root in Update 2 simply use "fastboot reboot recovery" in adb and inside the recovery do the "update.zip" trick to root it
Thnx

fastboot problem
Hi guys,
I am noob not only here in XDA developers but also on Android tweaking, so excuse me if I mess up with terminology.
What I wanted to do is to provide superuser permissions to my device but before that I decided to do some "warm up".
After performing a "reset to defaults" I updated to ΟΤΑ 2.3.7 update 5 and I messed up the bootloader and fastboot functionality, as the OP stated.
From now on, on rebooting and trying to enter recovery (power and +vol) I get the 1st attached screenshot.
I successfully got into recovery menu through pc command line tool (adb reboot recovery), see 2nd screenshot attached. Adb tool works fine, whatever I try using fastboot tool from my pc seems to fail.
Without this I am unable to flash a different recovery on my device, right?
Am I missing something?
Thanks, in advance for any further info.
I am at your disposal for any further detail I could provide.
Does not work for me. The cmd screen just flashes, I could not even read what it shows.

[Q] HUAWEI Ascend Y300: Flash Recovery with a Locked Bootloader

Are there other ways to flash a recovery with a locked bootloader?
My Problems:
I can't flash my stock recovery through fastboot with a locked bootloader.
I can't boot into my recovery because my current recovery is TWRP 2.5.0.1 and I have a locked bootloader.
I can't unlock my bootloader because I have used an IMEI Hack Tool and set my IMEI to 0 (I guess).
I can't boot into my ROM because I used an IMEI Hack Tool.
I can't Force Upgrade too (Vol Up + Down + Power). It only shows a pink/purple screen.
Solutions:
I can only flash a recovery with an unlocked bootloader.
I can only boot into a recovery with an unlocked bootloader (except for stock).
I can only unlock bootloader if my IMEI has restored.
I can only restore my IMEI if I can boot into my ROM.
I can only boot into my ROM if I have a stock recovery.
I can only Force Upgrade if I have restored my IMEI.
If I could only restore my IMEI through fastboot, that would be great!
So, please help!
You cant restore stock recovery ?
You cant enter to trwp ?
You cant restore IMEI cuz rom bootloop ?
You cant force flash stock firmware cuz fastboot is pink ?
I also "zero" my imei many times to flash stock firmware, but i allways can enter trwp and restore buckup or flash rom in zip

OK, lest start from beggining
1.You must unlock bootloader by code ( first run check Lock / Unlock status ) (fastboot mod)
2. Flash TRWP (fastboot mod)
3. Flash SuperSU or Superuser zip (trwp)
4. Backup IMEI on running rom
5. Hack IMEI on running rom
6. Update phone by forceupdate flash update.app (rom in root of sd card > folder dload > update.app)
7. Run stock rom , lest install, shut down phone
8. Run TRWP to install SuperSU/Superuser zip
8. Restore IMEI (on working rom)
9. Go to TRWP and Wipe dalvik cache
10. Now you have working newest stock rom with root
So :
1. You cant have trwp in lockedbootloader
2. If update fail on 2/2 IMEI is not "zero"
3. Pink LCD on "update mod" = no rom in sd card
Next :
Hold Vol Down + Vol Up + Power to forceupdate firmware mod
Hold Vol Up + Power to run TRWP or stock recovery ( hold about 5s)
Hold Vol Down + Power for fastboot mod (5s-10s)
If you now have locked bootloader , with stock recovery, and force update fail, you cant unlock bootloader and flash trwp > Last hope is in "oryginal" rom, your IMEI will not block it.

Wait, let me put this in summary:
1.
- I have a locked bootloader.
- I can't unlock the bootloader because it says "recovery image verify failed".
- It can only mean one thing: my IMEI must have changed.
2.
- I have a TWRP recovery.
- At first, my original recovery was the stock when I have a locked bootloader.
- Then I flashed the TWRP recovery even if I have a locked bootloader and didn't warned me. (Shoudn't it be accepted to be flashed since I have a locked bootloader).
- In my experience, if I have a stock recovery when I'll hack my IMEI, it will format my cache and data and let me boot into my phone.
- If I have a TWRP recovery when I'll hack my IMEI, it will only redirect me to the TWRP menu.
3.
- I can access Force Upgrade.
- But it doesn't show any text. (For example: it doesn't show if it is unpacking or installing, only a bar.)
- When I access Force Upgrade, the loading stops at 1/4 of the bar. (So I'm not really sure if it failed at step 2/2.)
So my questions are:
1. Why can't I unlock my bootloader with my original IMEI's unlock code if my IMEI is not "zero"?
2. Why is it when I Force Upgrade, it doesn't show any text?
3. Why did fastboot accepted the TWRP recovery being flashed when my bootloader was locked?
And, what do you mean by "original"? Do you mean the B182 firmware upgrade, not the B175?
After hacking IMEI you cant have stock recovery, cuz you need root for shell script. So its not making "auto wipe" to change OEM info.
TRWP should not be installed on lockbootloader, but i dont make it ...
So , do you have working trwp or not ?
Oryginal firmware ... version when you get with phone, like my Y300-0100 branded T-Mobile PL B167

I am sure i have twrp.
If i have a stock recovery, i would be able to boot into recovery.
Based in my experience:
1. To hack the imei, you must first root your phone.
2.a. Next, the phone will reboot, but it won't boot into system.
2.b. Fastboot, force upgrade, and recovery is still accessible.
3.a. If you have a twrp recovery when you hacked the imei and rebooted, it will redirect you to the twrp menu.
3.b. If you tried to restore from twrp recovery, it still won't reboot into system.
3.c. If you have a stock recovery, it will directly boot into stock recovery and format your cache and data and reboot to system (still leaves your imei to zero)
4. If you go to force upgrade, you can flash any official roms (leaves your imei to zero)
5. After you have flashed a rom or was redirected to stock recovery, your phone will reboot.
6.a. Then root your phone and restore imei then your phone will reboot.
6.b. If you have a stock recovery, it will wipe your cache and data.
6.c. If you have a twrp recovery, it will redirect you to the twrp menu (you can manually reboot into system)
Am i right?
And where can i get the original rom for my b182? There's no local huawei store here.

Can't you really boot into fastboot (Power + up)?
Hold it for like 10 seconds.
If it still shows blue screen, try connecting it to pc, maybe it'll read it.
Then erase recovery and flash twrp.
Wipe everything and restore a backup you made.

Well, that's perfect! If the PC can read the device from fastboot, you can erase the recovery and flash the twrp and restore from backup. But if it still goes blue, flash the system, data, cache, boot, recovery from your twrp backup.

Wiped tablet, tried to install CM. Failed because wifi tablet thinks it is castor.

I wiped my device and now can't install CM because it thinks it is castor and not castor_windy. It is a wifi z2 tablet.
I used tool from this thread to gain root. After I used root checker basic to check I was rooted and it said I was.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
I used tool from this thread to install custom recovery, I believe successfully. I was able to reboot into recovery afterwards.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794175
To try and install CM I tried to follow the instructions in this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53994500&postcount=1
To do 4&5 in twrp, I wiped cache, system and dalvik. I got the problem in the following picture (pictures are all links because I couldn't work out how to get them small enough to attach).
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxoU7oR5AJUeVnE4LXpEd0t6c0k/edit?usp=sharing
It eventually formatted all three.
I then tried to install CM, PA gapps, and recovery (as suggested in the recovery thread to make sure keep recovery after reboot). This happened.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxoU7oR5AJUeT2pkZE53UUdRUDA/edit?usp=sharing
I didn't make a backup in advance because I am an idiot. I do have TA backed up.
What did I do wrong and how can I fix it please?
If I understand you correctly, you have tried too flash CM without unlocking your bootloader first.
As far as I know, this is not possible: Due to the locked bootloader, the CM Kernel cannot be installed and hence CM won't work anyways.
With locked bootloader, you can only flash stock-based ROMs which share the Kernel with the original ROM.
You can use flastool to flash a TFT (stock firmware), then your tablet should work again.
For flashing a real CM which requires an unlocked bootloader see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708194

Thank you. You are exactly correct, I didn't unlock the bootloader first.
Would this flashtool work given I am currently in twrp and have no OS? If it would it is showing the links for the ROM for SGP511 and this is 512. Is it the same or do I need a different link for the ROM?

I would suggest non Sony software anyway. I still have my bootloader, but since it's not allowed to be unlocked I can't use Sony software either.

Not at all :good:
By long-pressing the power button (10 seconds or so) the tablet shuts down
Do the following:
- Get your Sony unlock key
- Install the Android SDK (Software Developers Kit) on your PC
- Install all necessary Xperia drivers (Google is your friend, don't remember where I got mine from)
Using fastboot:
- Connect your tablet to the PC while simultaneously pressing 'Volume up'. When the LED is blue you are in fastboot mode
- Unlock your tablet like described by Sony
- Install CWM from fastboot mode
- Reboot
- Enter recovery (press 'Volume up' when the LED is pink)
Copy files to tablet:
- Use the adb command line tool from Android SDK (in the same folder as fastboot)
Copy CM11 and GAPPs to tablet:
via Windows CMD: adb push filename.zip /sdcard/ROMs/filename.zip
- Flash CM11/ GAPPS via recovery
Done!

Using fastboot:
- Connect your tablet to the PC while simultaneously pressing 'Volume up'. When the LED is blue you are in fastboot mode
- Unlock your tablet like described by Sony

Have restored device to stock, then rooted and installed custom recovery (as in original post).
Can't get into fastboot mode. Trying as stated above fails. Screen stays off with blue LED. Same thing happens if I reboot into bootloader via flashify or recovery. fastboot devices then does not detect device. It does for my phone so think that means fastboot works.
I must have missed something (again). Thank you for your patience.
Edit: bootloader now unlocked with flashtool.
Edit 2: Used flashtool to fastboot flash boot.img from M9 snapshot (was this my mistake, not CM10?). Now can only get into fastboot, can't get into recovery. Without recovery I require an img file of the rom, is that correct?

I made a mistake, possibly multiple mistakes. I will continue to make mistakes. This forum is for people like me who don't know what they are doing to ask for help. No one has to offer that help. I am greatly appreciative when they do.

When the screen stays off with blue LED, you ARE in fastboot mode!
In case fastboot does not work, you haven't installed the according drivers on your PC.

You must have done something wrong - I had no problems whatsoever.
Just try it again:
- Flash CWM as described
- Factory reset, format system, format data, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache (format data/media only if the internal SD-card should be wiped, too!)
- Flash the boot.img from the CM11 ZIP-file
- Enter CWM and use the adb push-command to flash CM11/GAPPs
- Install CM11 and GAPPs via recovery
Good luck :good:

Did you ever manage to install cm11?
I have the same error, device thinks is Castor when its a sgp512. I tried both and soft bricked it, got out, rooted it again and still have the same error. I did unlock the bootloader, i am rooted, I know how to go into fastboot, flashmode, cwm, twrp, etc. But CM11 does not work!
Very frustrating.
Any ideas?
anyone?
Edit: Problem was that I wasnt flashing the kernel first as stated here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_castor_windy
Are you saying you missed this one
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img

I finally found some time to do this. Flashed boot.img using fastboot (didn't work using flashtool which I think was the most recent problem), flashed m9 in recovery, downloaded and adb pushed then flashed pa zero day GAPPS in recovery, and all is right with the world.
@BabelHuber how might I buy you a beer or coffee to thank you properly?

[Q] Phone cannot boot into recovery after trying to switch recovery

My D6503 is currently running paranoid android. Previously I've been using cwm but yesterday I decided to try out TWRP. I install TWRP using the TWRP manager in play store but after that when I try to boot to recovery it would show a black screen and orange light on the top speaker. Then I tried to install XZDualRecovery using the installer's method 1 (custom rom with superSU). However after install when the phone reboots it stucks and the sony logo keep flashing. I force shut down using the red button on the side and I managed to get to the system and removed XZDualRecovery. However I still can't get into recovery, it will just show that black screen and orange light. So I wanna ask you guys what should I do to get access to recovery again?
Thank you

use flashtool>flashtool.net to flash the TWRP IMG in the original development section, you will need to re-flash Paranoid android ROM to get cwm back
you cant change the recovery pre-packaged into a ROM
Xperia's don't have a recovery partition so recoveries are bundled with the kernel

I've downloaded flashtool but what function should I use to flash the img? Because the install recovery key is disabled for me.

I flashed openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-sirius then when I boot up my phone after the sony logo the screen will become black. Then I flashed the boot.img inside paranoid android rom's zip file. I can now enter to the system but still cannot boot into recovery

hmm, odd, i think you will have to reflash stock, reflash stock then go back to PA
you can use flashtool to reflash a stock FTF

If I flash back to stock, will it relock my bootloader? And can you explain briefly what are the steps?
Thank you

it will not relock your bootloader
1. download flashtool
2. download a FTF (there is a ftf thread at top of the general section)
3. put FTF in firmwares folder in flashtool folder
4. click flash device icon at the top left
5. click the FTF you selected
6. wait for it to finish preparing
7. power off device
8. plug in flashmode (volume down held and plug usb in)
9. wait for it to finish
10. enjoy stock or install recovery and flash a custom rom

thank you very much. Looks like it gonna take plenty of time. Will do it later when I have time
There is a easier way to get CWM back. Just flas the boot.img from pa and then go into fastboot (in case you are not already and do "fastboot erase recovery"
On the Z2 the recovery is included in the kernel, and once recovery boots it get expanded to the recovery part. As this is filled by TWRP ATM, none of the 2 will boot.

[Resolved] install cwm and rom with unlocked bootloader

Hi, I'm trying to install a recovery for my xperia u (st25i) and a custom room (cm-12.1-20150704-UNOFFICIAL-kumquat).
I'm a bit confused... is the kernel included inside the room or do I have to look for one with the cwm included. And how can I flash it using fastboot. I already have the room ready to install but since I don't have any recovery installed (I keep trying volume + or - while powering on and nothing...).
I supose the command is: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Not sure about how to flash the room.
I found this but it seems the link it's down...
I would appreciate a link to the CWM recovery and the commands to flash it and also the custom room.
Thanks!

Thanks for your answer. I was able to flash an old version of the CWM recovery, but I think I just fukd up... By mistake I zeroed the userdata/sdcard partition (using diskpart clean all), since then I cannot mount it in the CWM recovery: it always says "Can't mount /sdcard/", everywhere, trying to partition it, trying to factory reset... any option will give me that error. I already tried giving it format, fat, fat32, extfat... none works.
I tried some fastboot commands like erase userdata and so, and now I can't even mount the /data/ partition that I was able to mount.
But I'll try flashing it using the flashtool as you say.
Edit: Fixed! It seems the recovery from that kernel repaired the partitions and I was able to install the zip from there. Thanks!
