[Q] colors x factor plus - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
i wish to create an update.zip to copy fonts from the zip into the system/fonts/ folder because i delete them and kept one font but it seems android doesn't boot with one font only need other fonts to be there (or atleast matching the names) to be able to boot.
adb push doesn't work giving me permission denied because /system is not mounted R/W (which i do using Super Manager for example)
i read other update.zip files and it seems i need to create CERT.SF and MANIFEST.MF files in META-INF , but it seems there are some SHA1-Digest: below each file (is this a md5checksum?) so i can't just replace file names and apply it
any ideas how can i do it without Wipe data/factory reset ? (and if factory reset is my last option would fonts be returned or factory reset doesn't get fonts back? i feel not)

[Q] How to make an x-recovery zip off my rom

I searched the forum but i cannot find the answer.
I would like to make an xrecovery zip file off the rom i use.
Is this possible and how.
Thanks.
You can create a nandroid backup instead using Backup and Restore in xRecovery
Titanium Backup for single files.
You can also grab the files that you need to push as an update via Titanium backup. It creates an update.zip with a few files inside that you can extract to another phone if you like...
Nandroid backups are made with xRecovery for the Xperia models. It will give you three files and a checksum file, these can be added to a zip file if you like and restored using xRecovery.
I've found a good article on XDA located here on the subject. It's not specific to the X10 or Xperia models but you might find it worth reading

I'm not a Dev but this is what I'd do if I wanted to make an update zip of the changes I've made to the Rom installed on my phone. Before you try it, just remember that I could be wrong on this and if your going to create your own package, try it on your own phone before releasing it for public use.
First thing to do would be to extract the files from any ROM update package, but preferably the one that your currently installed one is based on.
If you open the zip file there will be two or more folders. One will be system and the other META-INF. If you drill down through the META-INF folder to the bottom of the folder structure you'll find a file called "update-script" This is the script that XRecovery uses when it updates your phone and you can easily read what's being done.
Eg:
Code:
format DATA:
format CACHE:
format SYSTEM:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
And it would continue on with more after that.
The script is formating the Data, Cache, and system partitions on the phone in preparation for installing the new Firmware. It is then copying the contents of the System folder included in the package to the system partition on the phone. The rest after that is setting up symbolic links and setting directory permissions.
If you use ADB to pull the /system folder from you phone, that would be the equivalent of the system folder that is included in the update package.
Code:
md system
adb pull /system system
You could, if you wanted, just replace the system folder in the update package zip with the system folder that you just pulled from your phone and you would have a packaged ROM.
If you wanted to include apps in the package that are not in the /system/app folder you would need to pull the apps that you wanted to include from the /data/app
Code:
md data\app
adb pull /data/app data\app
You would then add the data folder to the rom package so that you would then have three folder instead of two.
data
META-INF
system
After that change the the beginning of the update-script file to look something like this
Code:
format DATA:
format CACHE:
format SYSTEM:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
copy_dir PACKAGE:data DATA:
After your all done use something like 7zip to zip everything back up using no compression "Store Only" and you should have a XRecovery installable ROM.
NOTE:
If you have paid apps and are making this ROM for anybody other than yourself to use, make damn sure that you remove them from the /data/app folder before zipping everything up into a package. Including paid apps in your ROM is Warez and won't be tolerated anywhere.

[Q] Linux/CWM/file manager/ PERMISSIONS

OK ...
Samsung Fascinate SCH-i500
Rooted via SuperOneClick
Current ROM I am test driving on my phone is PWGB beta version (latest v 10/2011)
red versionCWM and verified I have busybox install.
installed Astro File Manager & Dual File Manager XT & Terminal Emulator.
MY NEED FOR ANSWERS:
I have a new bootanimation.zip stored on my SD card Id like to try out.
current ROM uses bootanimation file that is located in [/system/media/bootanimation.zip]....
the [/system] folder did not have the permissions that would allow me to move the current bootanimation zip and insert my new bootanimation zip.
Looks like the /system folder permissions were set at 0755 showing via "terminal emulator"
looks like I was successfull at changing the folder permissions to 0777 via
su[ENTER]mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system[ENTER]
chmod 0777 /system[ENTER]
but in order to get my new bootanin.. zip to transfer over to new location from my sdcard, went to move it with the [-i] option and TE displays [failled -Cross -linked Device] error message....
I am at a loss at this point to get the project done...
YES I AM A NOOB... I HAVE LEARNED ALOT FROM YOU GUYS... THANKS IN ADVANCE for your answers...,
This is what i do when i want to change my boot animation.
First of all, go to the market and install "Root Explorer".
Now put the new bootanimation.zip on your SD card. (I personally use DropBox to download it and store it on my SD card).
Go into Root Explorer, and into the /system/media/ folder and click the little "Mount R/W" button at the top of the app (this changes the permissions, allowing you to copy/move and add files to the system partition), and change the current bootanimation.zip to bootanimationold.zip (simple way of backing it up, in case anything goes wrong, or you simply wanna switch back).
Now go to your SD card (still in root explorer) and copy the new bootanimation.zip, go back into the /system/media/ folder and simply paste it.
Click on the new bootanimation.zip and change the permissions to
User: X X -
Group: X - -
Others: X - -
(Where "X" is permission granted, and "-" is no permission)
Press Ok, and click the "Mount R/O" button in the top of the app, and exit Root Explorer. All done.
Now reboot your device and see the glorious new bootanimation
PS: If there is anything wrong with the bootanimation.zip, it will simply show a black screen after the initial splash screen. So simply wait, and let your device boot like normal.
did not work...
I managed to rename the old boot animation zip and I managed to place the new bootanimation.zip into the same folder.... /system/media/bootani.....
I rebooted the phone but still the OLD boot anima remains and active. the NEW bootanimation file is indeed there but the phone does not act like it.
I went to recovery and cleared cache and dalvik and reboot....nada still no new boot animation.
I took on this small project of changing my boot animation because it looked to be so simple. I got the new boot animation file from a thread of a collection of boot animations and the instructions said to just place on SDcard and install via CWM....needless to say that did not work, so the journey went to where I am now....

I can't Delete file in root directory

First. I'm sorry about my English language (I can use a little)
but I can't delete some file in this directory ".ifs" folder

Mount /system as writable using ES explorer. Use Terminal. Use cd command to navigate to the directory, type su to enter su mode, type rm -f file.name to remove the file.

How to modify android files at runtime.(requires root)

This is a guide to show you how to modify android files like framework-res.apk and other files at runtime.
Procedue
1. Copy the file u want to your sdcard
2; using application like root explorer copy the file(s) to the system partition of your android device. i mean in just any folder. but it should be in the system partion of your device.
3. change the permissions to rwx-r-r using the root explorer. meaning the owner can read the file(r) write to the file(w) and execute the file(x).and group can only read the file(r) and others can only read the file (r) hence the sequence rwx-r-r.
4. now move the files to the desired location you wanted. your device might reboot automitically or remain normal.
5. this procedure is safe if followed properly and wont result in a boot loop.
6. failure to change permissions will result in a boot loop ...
8. happy modding. i used the method above to changed my android framework at runtime.
9. share with others

[Q] newbie need help please......

I have a samsung note 3 sprint smn900p
I want to translate the system apks like framework-res.apk and secsettings.apk
then I found one of my friend has a same mobile note 3 sprint already translated and same android version 4.4.2
so I copy all of his files completely ( all system files and system apks ) around 2 GB .
and I make a backup of my system using TWRP recovery .
and now I try to install his framework-res.apk , so I copy it to my sdcard and using rootexplore then change the permissions to R-W-R-R and paste the framework-res.apk file to the system/framework folder and it already replaced the old framework-res.apk with the new framework-res.apk which already translated . but the problem I dont see that the mobile make upgrading for the new apk so I go to the new framework and try to install it from rootexplorer but always get a message app not installed.
I change the mount to RO then RW but nothing change only app not installed.
so how to install the new framework-res.apk ?
my second question, can I make a new rom using my friends complete system files and flash it to my mobile ?
thank you
This "upgrading" on boot only happens if you wipe dalvik cache. Try to flash some other rom here from xda as if you do something wrong then you can brick your device. One possibility is flashing his efs partition to your device. That would probably be a hard brick.
