Wifi call connecting but voice not getting through - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Friends,
I am using Google Hangouts Dialer with a Google Voice Number. Whenever I use Hangouts Dialer at work it will connect the two phones via wifi but then there will be no voice heard on either side. It works with wifi everywhere else except with work wifi. Any solutions?

Google Voice - No Data

Does anyone have experience using Google Voice without a data plan? My sister just bought a phone to use with Page Plus, and is porting her number to Google Voice.
Do calls work correctly without data? I read a while back that Google implemented a feature in the Google Voice app that downloads the direct access numbers for all of your contacts when you first install the app. How does it handle new numbers that you dial?
Is there a good way to text people without saving their Google Voice "proxy" number, and still have it come from your Google Voice number, without using data?
I use Sipdroid with Google Voice on my tablet.
Inbound and outbound calls over WIFI work pretty well for me. I just dial regular phone numbers.
I've never really used texting with Google Voice.
google voice pay as you go no data plane
Does anyone have recommendation on how to set this up to play somewhat reasonable all together.
I know functionality will be limited when no Wi-Fi is available but......
Text >GV>T-mob carrier>my phone
Call>GV>answer
- yes>got the call
-no> be able to see voice mail notification an call to check the voice mail

can galaxy player 5.0 recieve calls using groove ip?

You need a real number to verify it.

Go into your Google voice account on a computer and make sure you have call forwarding enable. You can use your home number for this but unchecked that box if you don't want it ringing your home phone as well. Check the Google chat instead.

Replacement for GrooveIP for Hangouts Dialer (GB)
Since may 2014 Google has removed support for 3rd party dialers for Google Voice. This includes GrooveIP. Hangouts Dialer is only for 4.x and up Androids. ObiOn is the only 3rd-party app now supported by Google Voice/Hangouts for Gingerbread.
I had been using GrooveIP to use my Player 5.0 (US) as a WiFi phone but since it stopped working with Google Voice I needed a replacement. I have been using OBiOn as a landline IP phone for about 3 years and am now using the OBiOn app on my Player 5.0 (US). You need to have a physical OBiOn device to act as a Voice Gateway to do this. I have the cheapest (OBi100) hooked to my router with my physical phone hooked to the OBi100. Instructions to set it up with Google Voice are online at the OBiOn website. I read that 911 calls are possible but haven't investigated that yet. Hope this helps.

Click to collapse
If I remember correctly, you have to go into Google Voice settings & check the box to forward calls to google chat.
See if that works.
Yeah, using Google Voice for a phone number and then using Google Hangouts with the Hangouts Dialer will be the way to go now. As long as you have wi-fi you can text, and make calls. I been doing that for a while now on my Galaxy Player 4.0 since Google eventually merged Voice and Hangouts and took out the old voip for Voice.

How to do Hangouts phone calls on WiFi

Neat little trick I discovered today.
We all know that Google added phone calling to the Hangouts app (iOS only) 10 months ago.
I make use of this often, as I have an iPad from work that I use to make phone calls over WiFi when I'm in the basement and can't get phone reception. I noticed today that once a call is going, I can open Hangouts on my Nexus 5 and it says "call in progress". There is a button I can press to join the phone call. Once I join the call, I then end the call on the iPad and voila, VoIP calling on WiFi via the Android Hangouts app in all its glory! I tested this with initiating the call from Gmail.com on a PC and it works just as well too. Now the question is, what in the heck is Google waiting for when it already works so easily, and so well??
Also, does anyone know of a way to initiate the VoIP call on the Android Hangouts app (without using the Chrome browser trick)?

[Q] Auto-switch between Android and Hangout Dialer

Has anyone found a setting or Xposed mod or somesuch that will detect whether someone's on Wi-Fi or not and launch the stock Android Dialer if not and Hangouts if on Wi-Fi?
This would be handy for something like Google Now, making the Hangouts experience even smoother. If I ask to call home in my car, it'll fire up my normal dialer (so Hangouts isn't using my Data Plan), but if I want to Call Mom from home, it'll launch Hangouts and dial using my home Internet.
Suggestions?

Google Voice WiFi

Got a question. Google Voice can essently take any old phone that is not activated on a cellular network, and turn it into a wifi phone... A phone that works on wifi only.
However, the Google Voice App alone won't work in this case. The phone will not ring. For the Voice App, I believe you need to forward an incoming call to your cell phone number for the phone to actually ring. If you are trying to have a WiFi phone only, you obviously will not have a cell number activated on this phone. The workaround was to use Hangouts! The phone will ring via the Hangouts app. There is a setting in Hangouts that allows voice calls to ring on the phone.
With the retirement of Hangouts next year, do you think this luxury of a free WiFi phone via Google Voice is dead? Will google be building this into the Google Voice App directly? Is there another work around?
Thanks,
