USB Ethernet confirmed working - Nexus Player Accessories

Just received my Nexus Player today, and I can confirm that there is some level of driver/hardware support for USB Ethernet adapters over OTG. Hardware-wise, I have an OTG cable attached to a D-Link USB 2.0 hub, and a Cisco 10/100 USB Ethernet adapter attached to the hub.
Some notes about the behavior:
The IP address configuration happens automatically if you're using DHCP on your network, but there are no options in the initial configuration to enter static IP addressing. If you're unboxing and setting up your Player for the first time, just make sure to have your USB Ethernet adapter plugged in before plugging in power.
Aside from lacking configuration options, everything appears to work flawlessly, and the Player automatically downloaded an update from Google on first boot.
Hope this helps.

Good to know... thanks!

I bet you can figure out the MAC address, and assign an IP address through the router. It's better that way anyway.

Wondering if a USB 3.0 hub with gigabit Ethernet will work on Nexus player.
The specs of Nexus player is USB 2.0, by connecting a USB 3.0 hub with gigabit Ethernet, will it work by capping at 480mb/s USB 2.0 transfer rate?

I doubt you would get the full 480mbps but you should be able to do better than 100mbps.

i dont think it would make a difference, besides 10/100 is way enough to stream even 4k media

[Q] USB Ethernet OTG missing eth0

From the other threads I have read, other android devices have had USB ethernet working, but they didn't go into details, as it should 'just work'. My end goal is to allow my phone to access the internet at work using a wired connection to my windows workstation running internet connection sharing.
I have a working Monoprice 100mbit USB adapter (id = 6150) using the well known linux compatible asix AX88772 chip
I have tried connecting the adapter directly, and with a powered USB hub. Same result. USB thumbdrive with hub works, so the cables all work.
I get the following dmesg pastebin.com/mdttaDmq which looks hopeful, as it detects the ASIX chipset no problem.
I ran adb netcfg while adapter connected, but there is nothing new there... pastebin.com/7nN5MY08 (shouldn't an eth0 or usb0 show up?)
I have a Galaxy S3 i747M stock 4.0.4 ICS rooted, any help would be greatly appreciated
one of the articles mentioning it just working,

Solved my own problem since I got no hits.

[Request] Ethernet Support from Note 10.1 pro, wirh the Adapter ( Usb, Ethernet)...

Hi People......i search a long time for an adapter, that can charge and use Usb on the Note 10.1 2014 (p600) at the same time.....no docking station do this, and all other adapters don't, cause the pins are channeled otherwise than on other devices......don't know why....but the adpater from Note Pro 10.1 with ethernet does.....but if i connect an ethernet Cable to it, nothing happens, cause (i think), Android has no Protocol to give a dhcp Adress to an ethernet device, and set the wifi Adapter off....
l found a tool for Nok 3, but I'm not sure, that will work on a P600. But on a mobile , it will not be needed as on a tablet ...
Anyone got an Idea to convert the ethernet drivers from Note Pro to the P600 kitKat ?
Sony for my ugly English
If you're rooted, this app should work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xda.usbhost.test
I've never tried it with the Samsung branded ethernet adapter from the PRO series tablets, but I've used it in combination with an OTG cable and a generic USB to ethernet adapter, so it should work.
Thx a lot man......by the way, this is the same app, i wrote in the OP, i read about in the Note 3 Forum......i try and report
Result. ...is really strange.......the app accept the adapter, and get an ip adress...... ( it's a network Connection, coming from a router)....status gets to enabled, but i get no Internet Connection. ...strange.....i guess, Wifi have to be off. I also try to set the ip adress manually, also Router and Subnet Mask, but the same result, if i open a browser, no connection to the internet. Super SU Version is 2.02 .....any ideas?

[Q] Ethernet over USB (no adapter)

Hey everyone,
I'm trying something right now, that I guess, a lot of people had already tried...
My stuff :
- Motorola/Google Nexus 6
- Virei Perception
- USB OTG
- PS3 GamePad
- Cardboard+
- Limelight
My problem is that my office is "far" from my adsl box, so the connection for limelight is very poor and unplayable.
I just want to know if it's possible to connect limelight via USB, or connect the phone via USB in order to play limelight. Everything without an ethernet adapter I mean.
If you have an idea...
Thanks you :victory:
U can try an ethernet connection with otg USB cable and USB to ethernet adaptor with app from appstore called "ethernet".

[Q] MK809III TV Stick and usb hub

Hi all, I have a MK809III tv stick with Android 4.4.2 running. I use it as a mini PC with a LCD screen. I have attached to its USB OTG ports a quadrate 2.0 4 ports USB HUB (google for this and you can see it) , and connected to it, a PS/2 keyboard (using an usbtoPs2 adapter), an usb mouse, a usb ethernet dongle, and a usb sound card dongle. When I use this combo, all works fine, the mouse can drag and select, also wheel works, the keyboard works fine, the ethernet run smooth, and the sound works as player and mic recorder, the only thing not works is to reboot the tv stick, and launch android again (with other MK89III tv stick this also works flawlessly), to get this, I must to unplug RJ45 or usb ethernet. But this last question is not my main problem. The main problem is that I can not make the combo work anyway if I change usb hub model, If I use a 2.0 usb square hub (no name brand) with a little blue led installed, all works fine, but using other hub (I have tested two others), thare is no way to work. The main situation is that the hub stops work, and all item connected not works at all. But commonly, mouse works with a bad behaviour in button response, usb sound disconnects suddenly, or usb ethernet lagg or not works at all. My question is about this behaviour with usb hubs, if there is a special requirements in hardware to match an usb hub with this kind of android devices, or if thare are some drivers that can solve this.
Thank in advance.
Solved
I have solved the two main problems in order to use my MK809III RK3188 as a mini pc with usb hub and rj45 ethernet. The hub must to be a chip on board one, no an all-in-one glued ultra-cheap type, this is a mark of better quality and response, then you can conect keyboard/mouse, usb or ps2 with usb converters, usb sound, and usb pendrives. The ethernet must be an ASIX AX88772C, this a true usb ethernet 100mbps (7MB/s real) device, since I use it there is no lag, no boot errors, no delays or shorts in Tx/Rx. That´s all.

USB HUB (No Ethernet)

Does anyone know of any USB Hubs without ethernet that work with the Nexus Player. I'm currently connected with the nexus player 5ghz AC and get 150megabits , so no need for ethernet. Do you guys chain a micro usb to usb cable to a hub to get this working? Products, tips and info here please. Thanks in advance
Has anyone tried this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BWF5U0M?keywords=USB HUB&qid=1444943911&ref_=sr_1_1&s=pc&sr=1-1

I would like to know that too! Also, how did you test the connection speed on your NP?

Speed checker app. sideload the APK.

I use a basic 4 port USB 3.0 hub also from Sabrent (doesnt have the on/off buttons on it) and pair it with an OTG cable and it works fine. I have a wireless mouse, sixaxis or ds4 controller, and a 64GB flash drive plugged into it.
