I've seen a few early adopters exchange their N9 due to NFC not working. Mine doesn't either. I've double checked the settings to make sure its on and rebooted just to be sure. When I put the developer preview in my N7 during setup it asked me to tap my old phone to my newly setup device. I didn't get that with the N9. I have an extra tag laying around that I checked with my M8 and N7 just to make sure the tag wasn't defective. I just hope Best Buy has another one when I'm able to take it back in.

I'm questioning my N9 as well. Android Beam doesn't seem to work with my N5. going to Best Buy and ask for exchange
Yes, my NFC was not working. What i did is gave the tablet a few firm (but gentle!) presses on the back, below the camera towards the center and then i heard a "click" sound which was the NFC antenna reattaching to the back and my NFC has been flawless since.
There were some Nexus 5 units with the same issue and that was the solution for them as well.

I have the same issue with my N9 as OP stated. I will try your method when I back home. Otherwise, I will just go back to Bestbuy to exchange. Thanks.

It works! Thanks! Actually I realized that the NFC sensor is located right below the camera, instead of located in the middle of the devices. So for those who thought the NFC may not be working, try to place the Android Beam devices or NFC tags near the camera.
Just to clarify for anyone else having issues, NFC seems to be under the camera when the n9 is in landscape or to the right of the camera if it's in portrait.

This is correct, I initially thought it was located in the middle, which the "X" letter of NEXUS is. You are right, it is below the camera, in the corner, not in the middle!
Just FYI. I took a picture of the back of my N9, the white NFC tag in the picture is where the sensor located.
The gentle press actually worked, thanks so much, I was about to send the N9 back to Google.
Unfortunately pressing the back panel didnt work for me. I tried pressing the entire back panel and still got no luck. I guess mine is really defected. I'm going to Best Buy and ask for a replacement once they restock. This is no big deal but it is by no mean acceptable.
Have you pressed the exact spot xinchi marked in his photo? I pressed a lot on other spots and nothing happened. When I pressed in just this spot, it clicked quite loudly

My NFC worked but still had the click, creak and movement in the back. I squeeze mine between both hands close to the top center and it popped. No more click or creak. Apparently there is a back clip that is not attached. Mine all good and solid now.

Last night Prime #2 (1st was returned b/c of GPS) just died with no warning or explanation. It refuses to turn on. I have tried the reset button with a paper clip as well as the hard reset with volume and power buttons. Nothing nada. The only response the tablet will give is a short buzz of the haptic feedback if I hold the power button long enough. That is all. When I plug in the charging cable, I get a green light on the power button.
I am taking it back to Best Buy. I am not sure if I will try Prime #3 or get a Galaxy Tab of some sort. The quality control from Asus is clearly sub par.
What reset button?

Does the screen light up in any way?
Have you opened it before?
If so, check connections.
Else best return for RMA.
The LCD on Prime seems to flaky. My first one had a band of dead scanlines.

Hole by SD card you stick a paper clip into.
ok maybe some stupid questions...
what material was it laying on?
was it charging?
was it close to something else that is electronic?

Yeah, just sounds like the ribbon cable came out of its connector. This is apparently pretty common and easy to cause, have you tried hooking it up mHDMI to a television?
If you're not willing to open it and are within your return window, just exchange it or refund it. Otherwise you'll wait three weeks for the service center near you to plug the cable in...
I have not tried connecting HDMI. I will try that though for no other reason than I would like to confirm my data is wiped before I exchange it.
The ATP was kept in a leather folio case and not subject to any unusually rough handling.
+1 on buxtahuda comment. I had the same issue and it was definitely the ribbon. A slight bump and my display was out as well. Ended up RMAing it since I was out of the return window.

connecting HDMI cable to t.v. is best way to determine if its your display that went out. if you power up or its already on and stuff shows on the screen, then your display lost connection. if nothing shows up on t.v. then it might be something else. either try draining the battery dead then charging up again or just exchange it at best buy. newer models likely to be good. I have an early batch Prime from 12/22 n had no issues. good luck

I would like it very much too, had it done anything to revive my dead prime.
Unfortunately, I called my Best Buy and was told I have to go through Asus RMA because it has been 27 days since I got my Prime - outside of their 14 day window. CRAP.
Ya I remember when everything had a 30 day window....now it is 14 days, is some BS to me.....there should be laws protecting things like that

Ouch. Yeah, that's what happens with BB lol
Well, you can RMA.
But, since you are already past the return window you could navigate to Erusman's thread (I'll be updating my own later on how to reconnect the cable properly) and very carefully open your Prime without voiding warranty and fix the cable yourself.
Someone made comment about not leaving fingerprints, so be sure to not touch the spots of adhesive and to lightly dust off any signs of your 'foul' play.

Ah, yes, you could. I'm not too familiar with them, but I know they cover just about anything. Will probably be a lot quicker than RMA'ing to ASUS for sure.
I had thought about it, but I think if my ATP does get killed I'll let it RIP and go on and try another in the line that will fit my CG dock. That is to say so long as its far enough down the road to do so and it actually does die.
@scook9:
That's true, but a completely unresponsive screen is (almost) 100% going to be a hardware issue. Very seldom would it be s/w, and he doesn't even get the recovery displayed so it's certainly not s/w in this case.
That is good to know however, and makes sense considering they're really there for the accidental drop/submerge coverage, unless you get the basic that covers just straight h/w malfunctions.
VVVVVVVVVVVVV
On tablets and phones they do not cover software problems - FYI
Just got a warranty off them myself and read through it
That's terrible. Let us know how it goes!

I droped my DNA about 1 month ago and the screen cracked, luckily the digitizer was fine but the glass was cracked bad. Then a week later I guess I was to "rough" with my DNA and I screwed up the digitizer. Al I could see was a black screen with some green and purple lines going on it. So I needed to get it replaced, it would cost me around $150. Everything was working, even the screen, I could still feel the vibrations of me trying to put in my passcode, in other words, it could still recognize me puting in touch inputs but I could couldn't see what I was touching. I put in my head phones to listen to music, and it was fine, the sound was clear and everything. 2 weeks later I go to the repair shop to get it fixed, they put on a new screen and it looks brand new. I get home and I notice the side of the screen is messed up because when I try and press the q button on the keyboard it types the lettet w. So as hard as I try to type the letter q, it won't work. Sadly, I didn't test out my earpiece or the headphone jack. Now I take it back and they order a new LCD and digitizer. I come back in a couple of days so they can put it on the screen works fine. The next day I try to call one of my friends but I notice there was a problem. When I call the screen goes as normal, but when I take the phone away from my head, the screen doesn't come back on. No matter how hard I tried to get it back on, it would get back on. Worst, the earpiece didn't work. I couldn't hear anyone in a call, they could here me but I couldn't here them. I take it back to the repair place, they order like 10 earpieces but it didn't fix the issue. Now they are saying that the problem is my motherboard. So at this point, the only things that don't work are the proximity sensor, the camera because I get an error (cannot connect to camera error), the earpiece, and the headphone jack because its all staticy when I try to watch youtube videos. Yes I have tried many many headphones but the problem keeps persisting. I forgot to mention that my doubletap2wake doesn't work or my sweep2wake. A couple of days later the guy who owns the shop says the problem is the motherboard. I try to get my money back but I had no luck. What do guys have to say? I came in for one problem to get fixed, then I get another. Worst of all my phone just shuts off at like 50%. I can't restart it or anything, I have to connect it to a charger in order to turn it on? What do you guys have to say? They said that when you open up the phone, the pins that holding things in place break off and people get these issues. Sorry for this being so long.

Sounds like they messed it up bad when they put it back together. What repair service did you use. It might not even be worth bothering with the phone anymore it sounds like they messed it up when they were in there fixing it. Make them fix the entire thing or make them get you a new phone. Judging by how many problems are present you may as well just get a new phone.

Just make sure its level
I have to tilt mine downward at a 45° angle (screen up & towards the tv).
Also I couldn't get it to work with my Comcast boxes. I think the reason it won't connect to the boxes is because it uses the power button to sync. These boxes don't power off. They have a power button, but a press does nothing, and a long press reboots them. Anyone else run into this, or have a work around?

I agree, the way that it works makes it virtually unusable. Tried on 3 different TVs and the same with every one. They were all different brands so that was not the issue.
I couldn't get it to control my LG TV, but it worked fine on my nephew's Samsung. Now it works if I'm closer. Maybe my case is the problem.
I think because it's on top it has to be pointed directly at it, as to where my Flex, I could have the touchscreen facing me and it still works. Belive IIRC goes off the camera. Worked like a charm!
Weird. Mine works great. I programmed every device in the house, office, and a couple of friends houses. One Samsung Blu Ray player I had to use the learning feature, but everything else just worked.
mine is hit or miss, the one of the note worked better but IMO for me being too lazy to get the remote and use my phone I am ok with hitting the button a few times to make sure tv pops on.

Top of the camera has two holes. The pin size one is probably a mic, the bigger one I'm guessing is IR.
If it works better for some of you, do you have a case?

I have a case. So the one on the g3 is on the camera as well? Because i see what looks like a it blaster on top of my phone. Would be why it would need to be pointed right at the TV I assume.

Thanks, I didn't even know it had the learning feature. Unfortunately that doesn't work either.

A lot of the cable boxes actually use an RF signal. SO this will not work with it period. But I could not tell you which ones....

I think that's the issue. Luckily I can use their app to control the box over a network.
It only sucks for me if I forget to angle it up...if you angle it above the device you are trying to change channel with I haven't had an issue.
Coming from the G2, I think the G3 IR blaster is a bit more finicky. I haven't had any problems syncing it to any of my devices. But I do need to be pointed nearly directly at the device. I think this is because the IR led is recessed. If you ever look at any of the remotes around your house, most of them have a IR led that protrudes out from the remote. Based on this logic, depending on the case you could see more interference..
I'm coming from the HTC ONE...which worked perfectly...now I have to have it pointed directly at the device to work.

I dont understand you guys, IR means inferred which means that remote and device need to have clear view of each other. RF is radio frequency which means remote and device do Not need a clear line of sight meaning it can bounce off of objects to reach device

I'm have a T-Mo G2 on stock 4.2.2. The NFC range is extremely poor. It's like less than 1mm. I've tried NFC tags and various tap to pay terminals and it only reads when pressed hard against the back of the phone right on the LG logo after several tries. Has anyone else had the same experience?

It'll read from a few mm with a case on my phone. 1mm seems a bit small, especially when you have trouble with tap and pay, but all in all NFC is a technology that assumes near physical contact. But yours sounds less sensitive than it should be.
N(near)F(ield)C(ommunication) .. So u have to lay it very near. But not as u said pressed. I tried it 2or3 times in germany here and worked fine. Maybe upgrade to 4.4.2 and try again
From experience range is actually a lot greater than sgs5. Tested on Nfc bluetooth headset and while sgs5 works only from the back. G2 will initiate pairing from both sides of the headset.

My Samsung GS3 works from about 1.5cm away. I will try 4.4.2 and see how it goes.
Does anyone know where I can get a new power button? Mine was jammed in and cracked slightly. Pretty cool spot build quality right there aswell as the piss poor vibration motor that rattles worse than a Chinese vibrator

I to would like to know this. My power button and fingerprint scanner still work its just that when i press it the press is now soft, where as before the button would make a click sound when pressed.
I'm not sure how a Chinese vibrator sounds, but I'll take your word on that I will say the vibration motor is the worst of any phone I've had.
Why not get it repaired under warranty? It can't be over a year old, yet?
i sent my phone back to razer directly as three uk were absolutely useless, they sent me a brand new replacement and the vibration now sounds great, well not great but it doesnt rattle or sound weird lol
im happy
debranded the damn thing and installed twrp and magisk

I'm in talks with Razer at the moment. Had to go through all the usual crap of resetting the phone and the restoring it. Just to say that nothing worked and it's a hardware issue. How long did it take for you to get a replacement. Did you have to send your device back and then wait for the new one or did they send a courier and do a swap for swap at your house?

They were really good with it tbh, they sent me FedEx packing slip I just boxed up and picked an pickup date, turn around was about 5 days. Would have been easier to have done a courier swap but I guess they like to check things first
